It has to go from google to samsung then to sprint then us? Call me skeptical but I don't see this getting to us before Jan, even Feb. Good progress though on googles part.

edit: deleted comment. I was just being a grump.
It sure looks promising. The reskinned apps like Messaging look nice, but I like the priority senders in the Messages app. If they do away with that, I'll go right to hangouts for SMS/MMS probably as default. The dialer looks slick too. I'm not a fan of TW, but this doesn't look super horrible. I use Nova anyways, like most people.

Hey the longer it takes it will give the devs time to catch up to the new OS. Those behind that video state that Samsung is testing it, then Sprint adds some bloat and we finally get a release. Samsung may start next month for their own versions once they get the Note 4 out the door. Then a month or two afterwards the providers will start their releases. Once we start seeing that then we know we are in the que.

Not that this is Android L related ... But have you tried 8sms? Its actually pretty slick. Lots of options, popups, expandable notifications. CM messaging with a number of extras and improvements.

I'm extremely particular about MMS pictures and group texts. My family can only figure out how to send texts and haven't mastered Hangouts - very frustrating. I have had issues with MMS display and sending in 8sms, Evolve, and others. I find the stock Samsung Messages app is the most reliable and quickest. Especially with Sprint WiFi calling, it flies.

Doesn't look much different but I like the little changes. Can't wait to try it! :fingers-crossed:

Saw that and it makes me wonder though why there were like 5 different test builds of 4.4.4. if we weren't getting it.....

It's going to be January before this drops. If we're lucky. Cm12 for me!

to be a sign that Android 2.3 is almost there, Facebook for Android and Twitter apps should have been released for Android 2.3, not just an update for Android 2.2, I guess
Considering the twitter app was developed inhouse at google, I'm going to say yup.
The only reason I can see them creating new Facebook and Twitter apps *FOR* 2.3, would be because they had new features that would only work on 2.3.
Since they've already released it for 2.2, that means no new features, so what would be the connection between the apps and 2.3?

Twitter was done internally at google in an attempt to show where the OS will head in terms of asthetics post-froyo.
It was done as a proof of concept.

It's a possibility the design cues will be similar.
We've seen the "thin line" and flatter buttons look on voice search already.
Gmail has those same dividers. The flat palette is also there (when you delete an email you get a green dropdown with white text).
The assets recently dug up inside of the latest Gmaps apk shows the squarer look.
Google has been minimizing resource dependency on all fronts. Removing gradients from images will have a great impact on image assets being pushed over networks (this has more to do with web apps than android apps, but I digress). They have a certain "look" that you can pick up from in all of their products, and it's making it's way into android.
What I meant by early look, is that the team putting the twitter app together has alreayd been working with gingerbread, and possibly honeycomb already.
Personally, I think all the nexus 2 talk has pushed gingerbread to a second thought in the nexus forums. As for gingerbread itself... it will get here when it gets here.
OMFG. I just realized the 2 and 3 buttons are next to each other on my laptop. That must mean 2.3 is coming soon!

Didn't see any posts about this, but it came across today at work. it said release date was 12-13, but that was yesterday, so....
Unfortunately, i don't have the exact changelog in front of me, but it included some pretty cool stuff, like Swype keyboard, a try it/buy it game from gamesoft, and others.
anyone else hear about this update?

This + This + This = Hard to get excited about a stock ROM that packs in more bloat.
As a side personal note, I've been furiously working on a revamped Gingerbread theme so I'm ready and anxiously waiting.
PS: I know added absolutely nothing to this thread.
Hard to get excited about ugly aosp. And yes your post had no value added to the thread. Based off their release numbers this would be a significant jump, could be something could be nothing. It's getting bot like to hear the tired old line of bloatware.......

and what exactly do you expect people to be talking about?
The only information anyone has seen is:
HTC - EVO 4G (A9292)
Software Version: 3.70.651.1
Release Date: 12/13/2010
Method: Available OTA + Retail
PRL Version: 60671
Version: 1.90_003
Hardware Version: 0002 / 0003
Fixes:
NEW FEATURES / SERVICES IN MR3
- Blockbuster (including WM DRM 10)
- Kindle eReader
- Preloaded try/buy video game: NOVA from Gameloft
- Sprint Zone update
- Latest Telenav
- Latest VVM App
- Latest Sprint TV app
- SWYPE Keyboard
- Scan Now Widget for 4G (does not need to be available on any panel, just a widget option users could find and use).
and noone even knows where that came from for sure.
What do *I* see in there? I see a bunch of new crap features and absolutely nothing under the "Fixes" section....
So you say bloatware but my phone feels fine, have fun repeating all the other crap other folks say. makes sense, you both were iphone owners, i wouldn't expect anything less

That's what some people like to call consensus.
..and slurping CM? I slurp no man. If I wanted to I'd just buy a Nexus S or just get some of my developers to port it for me - but having someone like CM (and the other developers) is just a bit more convenient and non-stupid.

oh no I owned an iphone for 2 years! Say you what you will but there's something to be said about a phone that doesn't need a firmware update every month or to be plugged in every 12 hours......
Don't get me wrong I love my Evo, I just wish it was as trusty as every other phone I've ever owned. In fact, I would go as far to say that technically the Evo is the most unreliable phone I've ever had. There's no way I'd turn my parents loose with one. It's the price you pay for technology though. It's strange to realize that the Evo is more powerful than my eeePC, runs longer on battery, and fits in my pocket. What an age we live in.
However, I had to cook my own rom just to get this thing "usable" in my book. With the iPhone it was just jailbreak and go....

Call Log

Whos ingenious idea was it to include EVERYTHING in the call logs??
We have messages received, sent, rejected, calls recievd, made, rejected all in one giant list.
And if you called or messaged someone more than once then those entries are repeated that many times. This makes absolutely no sense to me and a nightmare to navigate and find a recent number.
I know that you can filter that list, but its very cumbersome and not practical to do that all the time.
I wish the call log was just that - a calls only log. And it would group the same number dialed successively together so they don't eat up multiple entries.
Nobody else baffled by this?

Yes but the catch there is that there isn't a separate Home Screen and Apple Drawer so its only about organizing your home screen the way you see fit.
In android we have home screen organization and apple drawer organization which again is not neccesary.

The messages appearing in the call log used to frustrate me something rotten. I now use Go SMS Pro and the messages no longer appear in the call log. Perfect!

HTC One Android 4.2 Official Update Confirmed Once Again

Better true this time The wait has been too long.... Can't wait....
The HTC One Android 4.2 official update has once again been confirmed by the company without a specific release time frame being provided. Earlier this month we reported that HTC Russia had confirmed availability of Android 4.2.2 for HTC One in mid-June, but the update itself is yet to drop. Recently Three UK, one of the carrier partners across the pond that offers HTC’s latest flagship, recently replied to a customer’s query on Twitter revealing that HTC had “just pulled” the 4.2.2 release. This indicates that a June launch of this update was definitely on the cards, with Engadget reporting that HTC has confirmed to them that the update is indeed coming soon, but customers might have to wait a bit longer. HTC One ships with Android 4.1 pre-installed, whereas its main rival the Galaxy S4 ships with Android 4.2. Some features expected in the HTC One Android 4.2 official update have already been detailed, but the company itself hasn’t confirmed exactly what improvements this update will bring. Like everyone else, we’ll keep waiting patiently for this update, and will let you know as soon as it drops.... Read more at: http://www.ubergizmo.com/2013/06/htc-one-android-4-2-official-update/

Yea, I suppose both of those are good things. Even though you can get to the wireless/wifi toggles one click from pull down menu... or one touch on a toggle bar from home screen. the home button menu could be good? not sure what other menus are needed...

Just wish they release the goddamn kernel source. I swear someday I will leave my beloved HTC for the plastic, just for better developement, if this kind of delay persists.

people like you, all you do is want want want and nothing else. release the kernel source faster for better development? or for your selfish wants.
ever thought about others? them working for free just for your selfish needs.
why dont u do something good with the kernel source instead of throwing all the work to other people then leech on it like a damn parasite and moan when it's updated slower than other masterpieces
and then says stuff like "oh im gonna jump to plastic if my selfish need isnt fulfilled"

i think we deserve the kernel source asap don't you think? i payed premium price for this device running android (the most open source phone OS) so i could get all the benefits of open source policy
the fact that HTC always slacks on sources is gross

everybody pays a premium for gadgets. not just a phone alone.
and it's already performing currently, there's no need to rush things.
good things come to those who wait.
if everything u paid for deserves to be updated quickly because "it costs like a premium item" , then you're wrong.
it's like saying i paid a premium for my ac router, i deserve faster firmware updates to speed the damn thing up
and they have no obligations to comply with the open source license. only google does that.
nowadays with all the patent ****storms, nobody really cared about open source anymore. they want everything to themselves

hm yes i see your point but i don't see a reason why they delay things like kernel sources so long for.

HTC generally is pretty fast, sometimes a few weeks slower than samsung, sometimes a few weeks faster with updates. I installed the 4.2.2 update but immediately I noticed my bottom speaker started popping and the animation in the pull down menu was jittery and when opening the app drawer I first saw a grid of 4x2 icons before showing my 5x4 grid. These were just the bugs I noticed in the first minutes of installing. HTC were right in pulling that update. JB 4.2 itself doesn' t offer a lot either for phones. The one thing I really want from 4.2 is the fix for the msm_hsic_host suspend bug, but most people seem to be unaffected by this wakelock anyway.

With 4.2.2 on the ONE 2013 Flagship phone, everything AWESOME. As Samsung S4 come preloaded. Just that the smartphone battle has becoming more tough. At least HTC can speed up a little bit :fingers-crossed:
Most importantly for me is the 3 dot black menu bar remove and pull down notification wireless etc toggle menu.

My wife owns the s4 and trust me, I wish they would have taken more time working out the bugs. She's Constantly complaining about little things not working, and I'm always having to clear cache on apps, rebooting her phone and what not to fix it.
My htc one runs 100x more stable than her s4 despite being rooted rommed and s off

Yeah I got rid of the s4 for this. That phone was laggy as hell. And I had custom kernels and roms on it. This was faster then that off the bat. And even with cpu powersave on it is still faster haha.
