Sony will make AOSP roms for all high end Xperia Devices!!! - Xperia Z2 General

Link (German)
So this means Xperiz Z2 will also get AOSP rom from Sony, that's a huge advantage in long term development for this device. What do you think?

They said this for Xperia S way before. And you know what? xperia S didn't receive single AOSP from Sony.
So I would say, you can ignore this news.
(case with Xperia S, happened to multiple phones, so I don't see reason why will they change this now)

Need an offical source like sonymobile.com, etc. Other sources are considered as fake ones. So, I don't believe this'd happen really.

It did make me wonder if this was the reason why we haven't got 4.4.4 yet.

No, they said they would proved sources needed to build AOSP ROMS, which would be available at their Github. That's different.

Of course it would give you a good laugh, you're the starter of this thread after all.

Doesn't make sense. How can they push there Sony movies and all the other ps4 stuff they try and convince us we need?

Officially from Sony
developer.sonymobile.com/knowledge-base/open-source/android-open-source-project-for-xperia-devices/

We know that Sony is taking help from jerpelea for AOSP releases. Only time will tell if its happening or not!
Android One has already hit hard on big names, AOSP ROM will be a way to directly provide the updates without much headaches.

God. Nobody read.
THERE WILL BE NO AOSP rom in near future.
Only unique kernel for this platform. Nothing else.

Z2 has been added to the github code
Aka if any devs actualy need aosp code then they can consult to the github because sirius has already been added
We just have to wait on devs to port the a rom to Z2
One already exists but hasnt been updated for quite a while, it doesnt use the Github code though

Sony Ericson left us with updates.

Nope, probably this is all we'll get for the X8. Still can't believe what a bunch of ass-holes S.E. are.

I won't update because it VERY POSSIBLE THAT SE LOCKS DOWN custom boot.img LOADING!
If that change happens in EROM (loader.sin) then nothing could be done to go back...
I suggest that first we should wait for boot.img loading to be ported to X8...

Flashing back will not help?
I can't really be bothered waiting for another 2.1 update no matter how big or small. It's still 2.1. I couldn't be more happy to see the XDA devs hard at work making 2.2+ for the x8. It's not SE who make the x8 a decent little mid-range phone.
Where phone manufacturers screw their customers, XDA devs pick up the remains and do a better job anyways... on their spare time

Two things can happen:
*New Android update which disables this.
*New EROM which disables bypassing and DRM killing on lower level:
a) new EROM, same AID - EROM is downgradable
b) new EROM, new AID - can't be downgraded at the moment
Basically, don't risk - don't update if any new update comes.
A huge thank you to devs working on roms here. They are doing a great job!!!

SE gave up updating X8, XDA hasn't, and guess what, we got semi-MultiTouch, All from XDA
basically it was SE's strategy to stop updating the old xperia phones so that the new phones can take their place. guys just keep a track in the dev section for more updates in the custom rom arena.. devs r working hard & they r producing super results

the point that @darni was making was that the samsung going on sale will NOT affect the dev population coming to the Arc... in fact now that Paul O'Brien is working on this I expect that there'll be even more interest.. like X8 first launching, SE build new kernel & firmware so long
we'll have working camera then this is great!
Back in the spring of earlier this year, Sony Ericsson announced and released the option to unlock the boot loader for 2011 Xperia™ phones. We then moved on to explain how to build your own Linux kernel. As a third step, we have now supported the FreeXperia group. The reason for this is that we firmly believe in the openness of Android™, and we are really impressed by the huge activity shown in our products. By being supportive and open, we hope to both learn from the open community, and also share knowledge when that is possible.

Better late than never I guess, and maybe if S.E had paid attention to the "activity" when the FreeXperia group got started on the X10 the Xperia range would have been a lot more desirable to those who love to mod.
If all the manufacturers don't pay attention to what goes on at XDA development wise, more fool them, as the devs here continue to show up those that actually get paid to do it for a living.

It means that people can start porting / developing ICS related content. Your likely to see Cyanogenmod supporting 4.0.1 before its released from SE (or rather, Sony now.)
EDIT: If your on an R800x there is a Very good chance you will never live to see the day Verizon supports ICS on this device. Especially with the low sales.

Android OREO for Sirius

Guys. I could see some of the oreo based repos on github for Xperia Z2 (Sirius).
Here are the links.
https://github.com/Sony-Stock-CM/android_device_sony_sirius/tree/lineage-15.0
https://github.com/rcstar6696/android_kernel_sony_msm8974/tree/oreo
https://github.com/rcstar6696/android_device_sony_sirius/tree/oreo
So I think devs are working on OREO ROMs. So can any devs out there confirm it? Can we expect an OREO ROM?
Devs said Oreo will come to Xperia Z2 just give them more time.
Wrong place to post this mate.
Just wait, don't ask for ETA and all gona be ok
