I took the update via keys, used cf auto root and everything is working great.

did you need to odin back first? or if you do it through kies does being rooted not matter? i went to see if hte update was available, but i get the whole "your rooted and cant update"type message
but not sure if the udpate is really worth it since on custom rom that is based on older one.. would hate to not be able to use the rom
From my Fired-up Note Pro 12.2!

Being rooted through keys doesn't matter it worked fine but I did flash stock recovery before taking the update on keys. You should be able to flash twrp and go back to your custom rom if you want afterwards.

OMG still on 4.4.2. Are they skipping 4.4.4?

You won't have to chose. I'm building the new ones today. Kies works as well. I'll have the stuff up tonight hopefully.

samsung slowness as normal.

I use canada firmware. Auto brightness slider is absent on this firmware. I turned on it in wanam xposed but it doesn't work. The brightness is hell as usual.

Let me figure out which module it is. Because I get rid of the brightness thing entirely to make more room in the notification panel. There is one I use that is a jack of all trades module, like wanam, for one sole function. It makes the status bar the brightness adjuster and you just slide left or right over the clock to adjust it. I love it so much.

I mean auto brightness.
1.png - stock variant on this firmware
2.png - stock variant on previous firmware. also it can be turned on in wanam xposed (theme -- use auto-brightness detail) but slider doesn't work

That would be Gravity Box which is said to be incompatible with Touchwiz . . BUT . . I use it too just fine . . I just use it for that one function as well and I don't tweak anything else within it. LOVE that feature and I don't miss auto brightness at all.
Problem is that's not what he wants . . he wants fine control over AUTO . . If that has been taken out of the latest update I don't know how it can be added back in.

What about rooting?
Got the firmware update on my US Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 (Wi-fi) last night. I'm nearing the end of my 90 day warranty period on my refurb unit, and looking to root it soon (screw Knox counters).
Has anyone run into any issues with unlocking and rooting this new firmware?
Thanks in advance,
Eric "GuitarEC"

Probably too soon to answer that question. However, I just installed the update today and all seems well. On some web sites, the photos were not displaying but that is fixed with this update for me. New Kid Mode Icon added. Version stayed the same (4.4.2) Haven't found any other changes. Not rooted.

Notice any changes though?
I didn't stay on it for very long. I restored to my backup a few minutes after confirming it was still 4.4.2. I would have had to do a full factory reset to really see if there were significant changes, as Odin kept my /data untouched. I might play around with it some more when I have more time.
Sent from my SM-P900 using Tapatalk
I'm curious too but doubtful that there'd be anything significant. From 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 and then to 4.4.4 there weren't any notable cosmetic changes on stock android to begin with other than tweaks to dialer and contacts (which don't matter on thsi tablet). Most of the change comes in the form of bug fixes and security patches I would think.
I suppose its possible samsung did their own touchwiz tweaks at the same time but my experience has been that they enjoy letting current owners envy those lucky enough to purchase newer devices. A classic example is how Note 10.1 2014 edition owners had to wait until well after the Note Pro release before they could get their Kitkat update. A manufacturer never wants a software update for an existing device to steal the thunder from a newly released piece of hardware.
We'll see if other regions get this update. If all regions get ANG2, then I might reset my tablet and start from scratch with that firmware version. I should have checked to see if it had fixed that nasty Chromecast systemUI crash.

Anyone know how to stop the update notifications without taking the update? Also, anyone taken it while rooted and kept root?
I've disabled Software Update in Titanium Backup (there's two entries). Not sure if its working but I'm on build NC5 and have not had any update notifications.

its rootable via cf auto root.
This is the korean version. Not sure what the updates are...but my download mode is mostly in korean now. When factory reset the default language is korean.
I had a problem getting root. Glad others got root. It has a new_to_me real time scanning program. I declined when asked.

Android L?
Does anyone know if we'll be getting an update to Android 5? I have a suspicion the Note Pro will sadly be forgotten and left out in the cold by Samsung. I'm only really interested in the lower audio latency in Android L really; using FLStudio Mobile or Caustic 3 on the 12 inch screen would be pretty cool but the lag still present in Kitkat is a bit of a deal killer.
We'll probably get Android L/5.0 but it might take a while after it is released to Nexus devices. This isn't just a point update, but a major revision. This means much more testing and debugging for Samsung. The wifi only devices should get it first though.

Google has not even announced the official release for Android 5. How would anyone know when the 12.2 is getting it? The Note Pro is within the 18 month cycle of the release of the new android version so per their agreements with Google they will release 5.0 for this device.
I didn't want to know an exact date, just if we'd be getting it eventually, if there's an agreement in place with Google that's all good.

I have issues with it dropping connection 10ft from my router, not wanting to scan for new networks... the whole shebang. Sometimes toggling wifi helps, other times I have to reboot the whole thing. And with no dialer I have no clue how to get into the advanced options to turn off power saver like on the note 3.

I was getting a ton of reboots (basically everytime I turned the screen on) after I rooted. I just took this update last night and now I haven't had a reboot and everything is working great. At least as stable as the ND3 version or probably more so.
I get Ann occasional reboot now, on nd3. I am rooted but still have a 0 Knox counter so I am staying right where I'm at. Seems the only reason for the update is to close the exploit. No thanks.

Is it confirmed that NG1 renders TowelRoot ineffective? I have not tried to root yet. I'm not ready to spend the time required after rooting to install Xposed and RootCloak and her that all configured like I would need.

I'm getting the update notification now as well (in US). Quick question though - I rooted via towelroot, do I need to do/undo/redo anything to retain root? I keep cancelling the update for now as I don't want to muck anything up.

Well, I don't know. I haven't seen any report yet on whether TowelRoot even still works on NG1. It probably does, but until someone uses it to successfully root an NG1 device, we won't know for sure.
If I were you, I'd probably install Voodoo OTA RootKeeper and run that before accepting the OTA. Then, if you do lose root, you could try just re-rooting with TowelRoot and post back here to let us know if that works. If it doesn't, then you could try to use RootKeeper to restore root.
But, if you are the first one to try it, there will always be the risk that you will lose root and not be able to get it back...

Towelroot does not work after updating to NG1, but CF Auto Root does.
I got NG1 today too (was on ND3 previously, unrooted)
I know the update notification talked about Kids Mode but i don't know where that's enabled, because nothing new in Settings menu.
So basically, it looks exactly like ND3 to me. which is fine, because ND3 was fine for me.
Just picked up a Tab Pro 8.4 from the BestBuy sale, first thing I noticed was that an update is available. I want a root method that does not trip Knox so I did not install the update yet, waiting to hear if TowelRoot will work but I have a feeling it will not.
Looked on there website and they are clear that this will work on kernel versions prior to June 2014 and they haven't updated that date yet.

My tab on the latest version constantly reboots at random. It's not an actual manual reboot because it cycles through without that startup music and it's slightly faster. Feels more like a restart of the android system files. Or something.
Anyone have a workaround?

yea well I went to sprint with my phone to see what the guy would say he saw knox tripped didnt doing anything to fix it said Samsung will not fix whats wrong with the phone even if I had insurance on the line (which I added when my phone acted up to see if they would fix it... there is a way to add it if you had not previously had it...)
Anyways the guy was cool about it told me to go find a clean phone with a cracked screen and he'd swap the board out for me. He also told me that insurance was giving out Note 5's for the broken 4's for just the deductible. So the cost of a broken 4 was not working out I just got a new note 5 instead .... Huge pain in the a$$.
Note 5 sucks cause it does not have expandable memory or removable battery..
I want to root my 5 but I dont want to trip knox the guy at sprint mentioned to me custom recovery images do not trip the knox if I do it in the smart switch app. have yet to look for rooted recovery roms tho.

You can root by installing TWRP using ODIN.
Updated my phone (which is not on Sprint Network as I live outside US) and must say, I'm quite impressed. There are no noticible UI changes but the system feels more snappier than before. I guess the Doze settings have been worked too because of which battery life has improved a tad bit.

Hot-spot mods of previous builds will not work. If you want, you can use pdanet or FoxiFi for it (no need of a rooted phone).
For Xposed, you can flash the zip available on XDA but you will require root for it.
PG1 source code isnt out, so developers will be behind still.

You can skip updates with Odin. PG1 has been the best MM update to date for me.
Improved battery and Wi-Fi Calling for me.

Anyone install this update via @jrkruse method and use Flashfire with his CSC root. If so does your automatic brightness work?

I installed AQGL using part 2 of the root method including @jrkruse QG2_ADD_CSC_SYSTEMROOT zip. I followed up with a flash of the AQGL CP and CSC in ODIN. I just checked and the auto brightness is working. The phone seems to be working better than ever. I just finished setting up last night so not too much time with it.

@pimpmaneaton has streamlined the process. You just use the QGL system.img.ext4 (extracted from QGL AP file for less knowledgable users) and the VZW_AQGL_ADD_CSC_SYSTEMROOT_V5.zip in place of Part 2 of the SAMPWND thread or @jrkruse rom thread, these files can be located here.
Remember to thank the lovely folks whom provided these files/methods, they're making a great phone even better! :good:
EDIT
Just a heads up, had data issues during setup, so went to download mode and flashed QGL csc file as well and it got me up and running great!
So can I take the AQGL update now and still be able to root a few weeks later? I'm holding off for a bit until 80% battery issue is fully understood.

I would flash the QGL1 firmware first (in linked thread), for compatibility, and if you get modem crashes after you're up and running, you can flash the HLOS and Modem files for QGL. (also in linked thread)

Thanks ... I seem to be running fine. No real issues to report. Restored everything via TB and it's running fine. If I encounter any issues I'll try what you suggested.
Seems I'm going to follow your suggestion, I just tried to list my apps and I got a UI crash.

Yes ...they actually misspelled Samsung for the plus version but do have it correct for the regular S8; Also, even though it is dated 10/02/2017.. I have not been able to update as of this writing. 7:50PM PST

Woke up to the update ready to install. Interesting that it says security update but the security is still at August 2017.
Nothing noticeable as of right now for me.
