Bootloader Unlocked! - Xperia Z3 General

Hello,
Recently managed to get my hands on a Z3 via Three UK and even though the Z3 isn't listed on the Sony Developers website as a phone you can unlock, if you follow the procedures for the Z3 Compact it takes your IMEI and unlocks perfectly fine.

same goes to Z2 & Z1 earlier. Not listed but unlockable. Maybe they not prepare the database to store unlocked IMEI list for Z3 yet
Btw, did u check whether X-reality,super vivid & screen mirrorring are still working as drm keys are wiped during unlocking. i dn want miss these features for this newborn beauty

Three is selling the Z3? Damn it's not even listed on their site or anything, did you go into one of their stores and luck out on them having stock?
Also, nice. Might unlock mine soon when interesting development arrives for our devices.

I haven't checked, though those features are still present. Checking through the various screen modes I can't see any discernible difference between them. Screen mirroring I can't test as I've nothing to test it with.

I knew three had them in, stores took delivery of them all today, though they have been rather quiet about the launch and the website hasn't even been updated. They DO have them though, I had to pester my local store to actually bring one out, but I got there in the end! I did make a point of saying that if it was another iPhone launch things would be different.

for those who has unlocked their bootloader, i need some help to test this stock rooting kernel + recovery HERE
tqvm!

So like some of the carrier based phones had bootloader unlock allow as No. Is it the same guys?
Do you see any significant difference in camera? cause It was slightly affected. Not that noticeable though.

I have a carrier-based phone but mine is set to unlock allowed: Yes
I have unlocked my Z3 via sony website and have rooted it with monx img

I have not installed the SDK, in fact I don't really see a way to install it, looks to me like you just copy the files somewhere to use it?
I have the adb drivers installed using the following package : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979

I followed the instructions from another post, I downloaded the eclipse android sdk and installed it. After that, I updated the usb driver to support fastboot. A bit more complicated than the one you followed but it worked for me.
Have you tried running installer and cmd as administrator?
Sent from my D6653

Does anyone have a definitive list of what is, or might be, affected?
I am desperate for root but if it's gonna kill the camera or anything important, I'll wait until someone finds an exploit. If it's crap like TrackID, Walkman, or Sony's Unlimited stuff I don't care, the reason I want root is to get rid of that stuff anyway!

Yes ran as adminstrator, can you elucidate on how to update the usb driver? I believe the batch file I referenced does do that but I can check.

[GUIDE][18th Dec][4Noobs] Rooting Xperia Play Below .62

Before we start you must be on a firmware lower than xxx.62 (Settings > About Phone > Build Number).
OK lets begin.
First you will need to download some software.
SuperOneClick latest version from here
OK now for the easy bit.
Disable your AntiVirus as essentially the way you root this phone is via a virus for android 2.3.4. (anti-virus software will delete it).
Turn on USB debugging on your phone. (Settings > Applications > Development > Usb Debugging)
Install SuperOneClick and run it.
Press root. (make sure the exploit is on Zergrush or auto) After a few minutes superoneclick will popup with a message box saying something along the lines of "success, would you like to check su"
Press "yes" it should then return another message box saying "su access granted" or "phone rooted". At this point your phone is most likely rooted. To confirm it read below.
To confirm if your phone is rooted (even though superoneclick just has) download any app that requires root (Root Explorer, Titanium Backup etc.) then if your rooted it will say superuser access requested
Press yes to allow.
Congrats Your Xperia Play (Pre .62 Firmware) IS NOW ROOTED! thanks to the developers of XDA for the zergrush exploit.
Could be good for those not knowing that .62 fw isn't rootable using the simple methods. Keep up the good work!

Help..?
I unlocked my bootloader from your other tut via sony unlock key and fastboot but don't have a way to confirm if it unlocked it or not.. I am on a R800x Verizon Wireless 2.3.4 and 4.0.2.E.0.57 and this root method stalls at #7 and then stops responding.. Is this tut too old..? If you could point me in the right direction or tell me how to tell if my bootloader is unlocked or not.. If it isn't I assume this won't work.. Also not 100% sure I have the right drivers since they are supplied but I have everything up to date as far as I know..

Why would you use this root method if your bootloader is unlocked? also if u can get in fastboot mode and flash a file then your bootloader is unlocked.
Here is a guide to root your phone with a unlocked bootloader.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2054504
Never heard of unlock root although you can easily find it by googling.

( Discussion ) Bootloader Unlock / DRM Keys

HI XDA,
As we all know at present there is no exploit to root while the boot loader is locked and hence do the TA Backup and save the DRM keys. Now, considering the predecessor Z1, many people are of a view wherein if we unlock the bootloader then DRM keys would be lost and some functions like Xreality and etc wont work.
But, on the 4.4.2 Z1 firmware DRM keys are not lost if we unlock the B/L.( Correct me if I am wrong ).
So, The main confusion now is the following.
* Per Some users who have U/L their bootloader, They mentioned that everything is working fine including Xreality and all DRM keys are intact if they check it via *#*#7378423#*#* on phone keypad -> service tests -> verifiy certificates -> media -> Certificates
* Per some users DRM Keys are lost as in Z1
Now, Considering that there is NO ETA as to when a exploit would be discovered to root without u/l boot-loader.What I want to suggest is that probably we can request our friends who have already unlocked the bootloader to check if DRM keys are lost or not and if genuinely all the features like xreality BIONZ are wroking.
I am not sure who we can do that. So, lets please work on this and possibly all of us who are waiting to ROOT this awesome beast put an end to our patience.
Figured I'd humour you and post what all is in my "Media" section. Unlocked bootloader, btw. I'm going to assume this means I'm missing the keys? And I marked out the Thumbprint stuff, cause that looked somewhat private.

Thanxs Guys.
I am on a Locked Bootloader and I have the exact same things as mentioned by you..
Now if some could shed some light on some other way to verify the fact that DRM keys are lost or not.
Maybe try playing a movie from video unlimited on an unlocked phone?

Then look on a first three lines.

Yes, on my still locked Z2 the first lines say [Key OK] [Active]
So I still wait for some exploid to save the Keys just because If I sell the phone it would be important I think.
But btw. can someone check what this lines say after you relock the bootloader? Would be interesting

Yep, confirmed lost on mine.
I think the easiest way to check if DRM key is lost or not, is to open the Sony Unlimited app. I had trouble connecting to the service, after unlocking the bootloader. It worked fine, prior to bootloader unlock.

Seriously how many threads do we need about this ish really!
DRM = Digital Rights Management
It's something you don't need and certainly don't want! You don't want DRM on your music, your movies or any other type of file on your pc and you don't want it on your phone either.

You need custom kernel with built in recovery to use this method. For locked bootloaders, your method is useless as you will remove recovery during 2nd step. I would advise to bring down this topic as users with LB will end up with unrooted and unrootable 5.1.1 FW. You should use update via pre-rooted package instead.
For unlocked bootloader you just flash new ROM, boot custom kernel, install root.. Nothing new here
Just follow this guide. It works fine on Lollipop 5.1.1, I did it on my phone without problem, however, do a backup before you try it.

If you already have this, why not just use the PRF creator? Seems to me that method saves a couple of steps and it worked fine for me when upgrading to 5.02 and 5.1.1.
This method requires an unlocked boatloader. OP please mentioned that in your post

Lockin your bootloader does NOT restore TA partition. It just lockes the bootloader again without the DRM keys. Use TA backup to backup before unlocking. See the comment and picture above. The first three lines should say (ok)..... If u get unknown error... Its impossible to restore your drm keys.... Unless u backed it up.

Sony Bionz X image processing engine which helps to reduce the noise etc in your camera, noise cancelling, x reality super vivid image enhancement, PlayStation play etc. There are few threads around how to restore those lost DRM protected features but I'm not sure they are 100% working.
Have a look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/xperia-z1-z2-z3-series-devices-drm-t2930672
Like the person above said locking your bootloader doesn't restore your DRM keys. It just sets your bootloader status to locked, which helps you to use official Sony update services such as Sony PC companion. Always remember to research before any modifications.

Root and bootloader unlock discussions

Because "Whilst a minor amount of off-topic posting may be overlooked, the general rule is that your posts / threads must be relevant to the Forum / thread in which you are posting. ", I feel this needs it's own thread instead of this one oem-unlock-bootloader-preserving-drm, which was originally discussing DRM warranty.
I want to discuss if it is possible and how it would be done. It is not yet listed on Sony's webpage with phone and other devices which support unlock bootloader. I will try to root and unlock bootloader this weekend, I will try using the same method as for z3c.
i'm on a weekend trip and will try to root my z5c on sunday evening or monday. a smartphone without adaway, titanium backup etc. is crap.
feedback about your success would be nice.

For backup from my old Z3C i use with success Helim app
Hispanico
I need some help with this one. I was able to to do oem unlock but my phone reset when I started it again.
I am also tempted to flash the recovery with ClockWorkMod for Z3C but not without a way to revert it. Anyone got any ideas for how to do that?

EDIT: I backed up the phone using adb.
Code:
adb backup -all -f c:\path\path\your_file.ab
And how to install Google USB drivers manually: http://visualgdb.com/KB/usbdebug-manual/

I don't know if you can do this in Xperias. But in Nexus devices you can boot (without flash) a recovery.
For instance:
fastboot boot Clockworkmod.img
However, I would just wait for an official custom recovery for the Z5C.

how did you get the oem code, since the device isn't listed on sony dev bootloader unlock side yet
Sony now lists the Z5 (not compact, but should apply the same way) on their unlocking

As an FYI
Sony now lists the Z5 (not compact, but should apply the same way) on their unlocking site:
"To be able to unlock your Xperia Z5, prepare it by following these steps:
1.Go into Settings > About phone and tap seven times on Build number to enable developer options.
2.From Settings, go into Developer options and enable OEM unlocking"
So it looks like this is all that´s required, no more code requesting process like on previous devices. However, nothing specific mentioned on the DRM aspect.. I have checked the option, still had "myXperia" enabled and all was good. Also, have not seen a difference in Camera quality, but would not bet on it...
but did you root your z5c?

Nope, did not root it, would not know how... would depend on a guide/software posted somewhere here on XDA... And I am not brave enough to brick my phone just yet

I have not yet done it but as soon as they release a recovey ROM, I will try all the old things in case something might work.

I just followed the guide for z3c, it accepted my IMEI. But as already stated, you can now unlock OEM for all z5 models. Here is the link: http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/. I don't know if it worked because when I started my phone again, it rested to it's original state and I had restore from a backup.

I want to try this but as you said, I need a recovery ROM first.
I'm still new to the whole Sony Xperia world, please correct me if I am wrong but would not this be the place to look for ROMs? http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/flash-tool/supported_phones/
These are just the methods to enter the flash mode
Guys help please. When I check in service menu there is ,,bootloader unlockable: NO''
I need to have root. If I use this guide ( http://unlock-bootloader.net/how-to/unlock-bootloader-sony-xperia-z5-compact/ ) it will unlock bootloader? Also, there is NO in service menu but I have code from sony to unlock from their website/email. Help?

If it says bootloader unlock allowed: NO there is absolutely nothing you can do to change it to bootloader unlock allowed:YES it's impossible. Only way is to change your z5 for another one that says bootloader unlock allowed: YES
Having a unlock code from sony won't make any difference either
Any chance for root with blocked bootloader in near future?

That is something we are all hoping for! There'll be a way to root eventually. Just needs time.

Possibly but I don't see why anybody would want to do that, because you wouldn't be able to run TWRP, flash a different kernel or anything really.

Me too... But I think the lollipop line is dead. The customization is horrible, extreme battery drain, etc. I hope, the Sony sw developers focus to the Marshmallow project.

Finally i got a solution for Nexus and Pixel Factory Image flash, now it works perfectly
Nice looking tool.
I'm surprised by the lack of comments on this thread. I'm looking at getting a Pixel 2 5". Is it this easy to just plug in and use this tool to root?

I'm surprised too, I do not know the reason sincerely
neat, been in debate on flashing but it doesnt seem like theres anything besides recovery and kernels. Wonder why the pixels have such a low rom rate. Even my pixel c doesnt have a root/rom option still.

Perhaps because the cost has become excessive? Or maybe because there is no more reason to do modding? There are no more a rom like CyanogenMod
thank you!! :good::good::good::good: i have been hoping for something like this to be released. been missing the nexus toolkit. hopefully its working well. :fingers-crossed:

You need to enable oem unlock in developer options and then you will able to unlock your bootloader

If it's greyed out, then u have to do a factory reset. However, it still wont unlock it.
I had the same problem when I was trying to unlock my phone's bootloader, but it failed every time, so I'm just waiting if anyone is able to unlock it.
My phone's (Pixel 2) Android version is 8.1.0 and patch level is March 5, 2018.
Let me know if it works out for you.
Thanks

There was a brief period of time where a bunch of us got our VZW Pixel 2's bootloaders unlocked, the mega thread is here https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2/help/maybe-stupid-question-verizon-pixel-2s-t3726294/post74983838#post74983838, but from what I've read the firmware was patched in February that closed this window/loophole. Also carrier unlocked != bootloader unlocked, it just means you can use it on any carrier's network. Has nothing to do with OEM Unlock in Developer Options. Hope that helps.
With the new update a i make a new recovery flasher option for devices with project treble. Test it and told me if it works
