[Q] Dead pixel... :( - Xperia Z3 Compact General

I seem to have a dead pixel on my S3C its in the middle of the screen, most noticeable when viewing a white page or backdrop. Anyone know whats the return policy of the S3C to dead pixels?
edit: Downloaded a pixel fixer and its not noticeable on a black background... even though its a white pixel... could be dust?

Lots of dead pixels

Hello everyone,
I just booted up my Hero, and I noticed more than 6 dead pixels.
I used these unstuck applications but didn't seem to work...
They only appear when in black, so they ain't that big of an issue but do you think I should send it for repair?
Thanks
Definitely.
I'd send back a 1920x1200 PC screen for less than 6 faulty pixels... it's completely unacceptable for a 320x480 screen.
Dead pixels won't show on a black screen. I'm assuming you mean possibly hot pixels on the boot screen. They're probably specks of dust.

I agree with Switchbitch dead pixels will always been seen the color will be always wrong and not only when its black. still its intresting how dust get up there.

Well no, they appear after boot screen, too. For example in Market/Settings or wherever black color is.

What color does the dead pixel show is it red??
Yeah I think so. I just tried to shake the phone and it seems that they are gone or whatever. But now I can clearly see a dust piece which is white. So I suppose the gap does exist at least in my phone.
Not annoying but oh well... if it gets filled with them I would need to send it for repair.
Does warranty fill these kind of issues?
I might have the same problem but it is no dust or hot pixel but the space between pixels.
It seems to me the film layer wasn't cut properly in the factory with the result that backlight shines between the dark pixels.
It isn't dust because there is no sidelight to light up dust and the spots are shining very bright white so the light definately comes from the back.
Furthermore my screen fits fine into the casing.
Maybe it is because I always have the brightness at full I notice it more than others. When I run Spark in classic mode or Draw! you get a complely black screen to test it... a pixel-test program is an option also.
I noticed it in the beginning when 3 positive-dead pixels where so very small they could not be hot pixels. Now, one month after the begin of use it has grown to about 9 of them but they are so very very small that I am not going to make a hassle about it.

Strange pixel problem...

Hello all. I have a weird problem about some pixels on A501 screen: when the screen is on and the background is black, some of them will show "bright"... but not white, i'd say some sort of pale gold or very light brown, but again not white. With other backgrounds (red, blue, green, white) those pixels acts as normal, not being distinguishable from the others.
Is there something I could do? The issue is a lot more noticeable with 100% screen brightness.
Update: I sent the tab to service repair, and they sent me a new one. Guess what? Same problem again, right where it was on the old tablet!!
Definetely they are not stuck or dead pixel (I can say that because of the color of the pixel)
I was thinking, since I use a Tucano Youngster Case (http://www.tucano.com/shop/youngster-for-10-tablet-pc-1.html) which has a magnetic clip on the back, could this be the issue?? I'm going to try to take a photo at this pixel and attach it here.

that would be a better way to ask.. give picture so that we can see your problem..
hmm.. i would deny the fact that magnet will affect your screen.. thats why i hate those casing with magnetic clip on it.

Unfortunately pics won't show my pixels, they're just too small. However I tried passing another magnet (more powerful than the one on the case) both on the screen, with a direct contact, and on the back, where the case's magnet is located, but no other pixels got damaged. So I don't think the magnet is responsible... Does the iPad folder case has a magnet in direct contact with the screen too? If that's the case I believe that magnets don't affect screens at all (imagine iPad's owners complaints?).
What do you think?

Well, when I set my background as black, on this one and two other Android tablet I had, it sometimes show a short brown/gold line on the top left of the screen. Most of the time its not there thoough. So it just seems to be a software thing. Although I do not have any problem where pixels appears randomly throughout.

Can you get a pic, so I can try to say if we're talking about the same issue? However, my pixels are always there, even in the "Acer" and "Android" boot screen... so I doubt it's a software issue.
Just a heads up... Yesterday I got my 3rd Iconia, and guess what, same problem again. I think I will just live with it... but I'm extremely annoyed.
Does anyone knows what kind of problem can this be, with gold-coloured pixel only with black background?
You should load up the Screen Test app that sets all pixels to red, blue, green, black, white, etc. in sequence as well as displaying several resolution and gradient screens and see how those pixels react.
I bought one A500 that had bad Wi-Fi but all pixels were perfect. Exchanged it last weekend for a second one with working Wi-Fi and all the pixels are also perfect. I don't see any gold pixels.
I'll disagree with your statement "Definetely they are not stuck" in your second post because if they are always gold in all screens they are indeed stuck. Not stuck on white or black but still stuck on that one color.
Does this happen on all home screens or just one? I hope you can post a picture of some sort because I don't know where to look to see if mine has the same issue but, running Screen Test, I don't see any incorrect pixels in Screen Test.

I ran a pixel test app and with ree, green and blue pixels everything is perfectly fine. Only with black background I can see them. I tried to take photos but pixels are too small to be noticeable :-(

Can you tell us exactly where to look? In Landscape mode, how far from the left/right top/bottom edges should I look and how many pixels am I looking for? How many should I see that are not completely black?

Among three tabs they were in different numbers and position... however they were between 3 and 6, and in the middle (vertically speaking); horizontally, instead, i found them twice on the right half on the screen (volume keys up) but this last iconia I have right now they are on the left. I also managed to get some photo, I'll post them later.
EDIT: Unfortunately I forgot my camera's MMC at home... will get back there in 10 hours and post the photos. However I ran Pixel Fixer during the night (an app which alternates red/blue/green/white screens very fast) but the pixels were still there this morning.

I ran through all the colors in Screen Test and found only ONE bad pixel across the entire screen and it's only when the pixel is supposed to be blue; it's black instead. That same pixel is correct on all the other colors though.
Otherwise, at full brightness and on any color, they are all on correctly and off when the screen is set to black. I don't see any other colors as you describe.
If your screen is doing something similar across three different tablets, maybe it's something you are doing but I'm not sure what it could be.

Please note that this issue is present in the Acer and Android boot screen... what could I do wrong in that phase?
Ok, here's the photo. The three pixels are inside the white circle.
I just rebooted after setting display brightness to full and did not see what you see. I guess I'm no help. Sorry.

Hot/dead pixels?

At full brightness at the bottom left noticed a bright white pixels in the black strip. Just wondering if anybody else noticed something similar

I bet it's tiny, or Is it more than one pixel?
Picture? I'd use the display tester app and see if it's still there all the time on several colored screens. If so, send it in for replacement.
Its prob a small cluster of pixels seeing how obvious it is. No pics too small. Im sending it in for replacemenr for wifi and feeezing issues anyways.

I have one single white/bright pixel on the left side of my screen as well. I just got my nexus 10 today, so that is kind of frustrating. I was wondering with the PLS display a white pixel means a dead pixel or a hot/stuck pixel. I am hoping it is the later one, since in most IPS displays a dead pixel is black, but I am not sure if the same rule applies to the PLS display.
Does anyone knows if there is a fix for it or if it's dead for good?
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=pixel+curer I've never used it but this might work. Worth a try I guess. I would call Google though for sure.

Thanks for your reply.
I tried a couple of similar apps and they did no help. I'd call Google too if I was in US, however the device was brought to me in Brazil as a gift, so that is not really an option
I guess I will just have to name the pixel and leave it alone...

Dead pixel?

I just got my warranty replacement yesterday. Noticed last night in a dark room that there is a small stuck blue pixel in the virtual soft button area, really an eye-sore. My first device had a hole in the backlight that looks like a big spec of dirt, so not as bad as that, but still irritating. I always seem to have the worst luck with ordering electronics (went through 5 sensations going around the warranty system )
Does anybody know of a way that it might be possible to fix this pixel? It's only visible when there is any blue or white on the screen above it. So if I download that pixel fix app and set the background color to blue, that stuck pixel screams, but if I set it to black or gray, it's not visible at all. It's only on if something above it is on. Almost like it's a short in the signal or something. Anybody know of a way to fix it? I've tried the pixel-fix it apps to no avail, albeit I haven't tried for more than 5 minutes.

Pixel fixer apps don't really work, some may report success only because it is an intermittent pixel fault that will just come back or would have fixed itself anyway. If it was as easy as flicking through a serious of colours the manufacturers of LCD panels would do this already as it costs them loads of money in throwing away panels with faulty pixels.
Some pixels will fix with gentle pressure, but often will just come back.
I'm sorry to say the only option is an exchange.

Phil
I'm getting a red pixel that shows up randomly. Either by the notification bar or navigation bar. It goes away if I touch the screen. Is this something that could get worse?

You have a faulty pixel that corrects itself sometimes when given a little bit of flexing as would happen when you touch the screen. It is unlikely to spread to other pixels, but one day the pixel may become stuck red permanently or may just fix itself for good.
It isn't uncommon to have pixels like that, although with improvements in manufacturing it's getting rarer. If you think it will annoy you, you have little option but get it exchanged.

Phil

Its a strangely behaving pixel too. It only shows if there are a lot of blue sub pixels activated on the screen. Example, if the entire screen is blue, the stuck pixel will scream, but if its red, green, or black on then rest of the screen (dark video or picture or something) the pixel is black. Unlike any stuck pixel I've had before. Only stuck blue if the rest of the screen has blue... And if the pixel is supposed to be showing black. If it's showing white or gray, it'll function properly, but if it's supposed to be black, it'll be blue.

[Poll] Dead/Stuck Pixel(s) on Your One?

First of all, I'm going to throw out a quick FYI fact: The One carries a 1080p display on a 4.7inch screen. The sheer resolution of the display increases the chances of getting a dead or stuck pixel. The ~469 PPI on the One also means it'll be slightly more difficult to spot these defected pixels.
Definition of dead vs stuck pixels:
Dead: These pixels are black and only visble on a bright background (preferably a white one). These pixels remain unlit (no green/red/blue pixel lights up)
Stuck: These pixels are essentially stuck on either red, green or blue colors and can be spotted on a background that is any color but of that the pixel is (if the pixel is green, you should be able to see it in a red, blue, white, or black background). These probably stand out best on a black background.
It's generally viewed that stuck pixels have a higher chance of repair-ability through flashing colors (white, black, red, green, blue) in succession on the display through an app.
I just want to know how much these defects affect HTC One devices as HTC has had some pretty bad issues with dead/stuck pixels in the past.
I, myself, have a dead pixel (unlit -- black) on the bottom of the display (barely above the "u" in Beats Audio when you boot up the device). It isn't bothering me too much, but I'm weary as to whether I should keep my unit as this may diminish future resale value..
Do you guys have a dead or stuck pixel on your unit?
p.s I'm not sure whether this should go under the "general" section or "Q/A", but I'm not looking for a specific troubleshooting Q. If it needs to be moved, please report the post (or move it if you're a mod).

Mine stuck pixel is white-ish yellowish colour and can only be seen on a black background with the brightness quite high.
When I first got the phone however I didn't have this problem, so its happened over time, I have since sold the phone so I can get a 64GB version
I though i had a stuck white pixel on the notification bar at the top of the screen, after a bit of investigation it appears the stuck/white pixel is actually a defect in the stock wallpapers
can anybody else confirm this???
it look like jpeg compression has removed the stuck/pixel though you can still see the location.

I had one stuck (white) pixel but it disappeared after using a fixer a few times
the suspected white/stuck pixel still shows on the stock wallpaper, but as i said when i take a screen shot, it`s on the screen shot , so it`s a defect in the wallpaper.

You should use one of the dead/stuck pixel fix/detector apps from the play store, some free ones are good enough
I have used a dead fixel finder app, and no stuck/dead pixels show up on any color that i can see
It`s just strange the htc wallpaper has a defect that looks like a stuck white pixel.
thanks

I happily don't have any on mine.
Do you think HTC would replace a unit based on dead pixels, and how many would be the threshold?
I have 1 dead pixel visible on white background, but each time i have to search for it couple of seconds even if i know the location, so it is not so bad...
If a WHITE pixel only shows up on a BLACK background, is that a stuck pixel or a dead pixel?

I had a single dead pixel and T-Mobile replaced my device. Not sure about HTC's policy, but I'm sure it's similar.
sadly got some dead pixels, the shape of the outline of the moon, though only i notice it hehe, my brother wich is a freak in those things and he didnt notice
I plan to leave my bad pixel until just before the warranty is up then I'll get it replaced and sell a like new phone for the HTC Two lol
Thanks for the heads up about the "pixel fixer" apk. Looking at the images, my phone is defect free. Rock on!

I have sent mine for a replacement today because of the dead pixel and a small darker spot on the display. HTC support said they are replacing defective units(dead pixels) 30 days after buying. Hope my operator will give me another one in the next few days.
