[Q] Root Motorola Luge - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, I am a noob to rooting and unlocking, but quite tech capable. So treat me with kid gloves.
I have a prepaid USA Verizon Motorola Luge, and I want to use it in Canada on the Telus network. Supposedly the Luge is the same as the RAZR M. From what I read, this phone is quad band and "should" do LTE On the Telus network (I hope, I hope)
I tried a Telus SIM card and get the message "The SIM card is from an unknown source". A bit of reading tells me that I need to delete some verizon specifics files, but I first must root the device.
Here is some device info:
Model: XT907
System Version 184.46.10.XT907.Verizon.en.US
Android 4.4.2
Kernel Version 3.4.43-g562f212
So my questions:
(1) Will this device really work on the telus network? Everyone says Verizon is CDMA, and telus is phasing out CDMA. But then I read Verizon is 4G LTE on 1700/2100 - which is the same a telus - I am very confused.
(2) Can I root this device using the Droid RAZR M instructions/root files? I am using instructions from adroid devices web site ( I am restricted from posting the link)
thanks for the help.

Try Towelroot first, compatible with RAZR M's .10 firmware, so it should also be compatible with yours.

That kernel build date has been patched so Towel Root wont work. As of now, there isn't any other root methods for locked bootloaders. Sorry.

It will not hurt to try towel root though. I agree odds are it is the newest kernel but it's possible they compiled the old kernel on a second date.

You can use it on GSM network (outside US) without root. You'll just get the message "SIM from unknown source", after every boot.
Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

Thanks for the tip. I did as you say, plugged in the SIM, got it registered with Telus, and now it all works fine.
It runs in global mode, so I am not sure how fast the data rate is - I will soon find out.
thanks

I ran speed test and its at least 3X faster than my other phone running - so it looks good. Looks like neither of them is running 4G/LTE, ah well.

No root for late 4.4.2 (including Luge)

Does anyone know if this phone support Vietnamese language (sometimes it's named as 'Tieng Viet') in the language setting option? Thank you so much.

At least in my Moto Luge it doesn't show up nothing related to Vietnamese or tieng Viet. There are some asian charachters, but I don't think they're vietnamese

This works for the SIM nag: Disable VzwPhoneService.apk using V3.4 Debloater. Additionally, this very nice app can clean things up considerably, but it cannot actually remove anything due to lack of root. Credits & Kudos to Gatesjunior for the debloater - suh-weet!
Next best thing to root I suppose

okay guys, just to let you know, some guys from russian forum 4pda.ru published this saying that they achieved getting permament root on 4.4.2 with locked boot and after they sort out how they've got this, some instructions will be published in next few days.

some more proofs:
screens from locked xt907
as soon as they publish instructions about how to do this, i will post it here, or mb in new topic to make it more noticeable.
upd2: luge rooted too, but some steps are different.
upd2.5: guys doing this said that there is still no way of unlocking boot, they've bricked one device already trying do this
upd3: they "killed" one moto on february 7 and still trying to revive it, only after this they gonna post instructions, because it's not safe to use.

Yep, that's sad. Still not revived, they say. Keep working hard. It do charge, but don't start
I think we could do help with some few bucks to compensate reserchers their effort and struggling, when they come out on scene to publish exploit )

UK Tesco Device - Unlock & Stock ROM

Just posting my experience of getting a fresh Moto G 16GB that was Tesco purchased - unlocked and to Stock.
I linked to the XDA thread by t-bon3 - which is a great guide.
Here is how it went for me.
First issue that the device is locked to tesco sim cards.
Note: you are not unlocking the bootloader or adding root to the system.
The phone will be exactly as if you bought it from retail, just you got it subsided by Tesco.
I choose these guys to get an unlock code - they seemed professional - I avoid ebay & paypal.
http://www.unlockunit.com/unlock-motorola-moto-g?var=tel
Form filling.......
Phone Model : *Moto G*
Country & Network : *United Kingdom - Tesco Mobile*
IMEI: *XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX*
E-mail: *YourEmail*
I then got 3 Emails.
1: Confirm Order
2: Confirm Payment
3: Unlock code (came 11 minutes after I paid)
There were 2 unlock codes - I put a non-tesco SIM in and was greeted with the prompt - the first code worked.
Then after that I followed this guide to Install the UK Retail firmware
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47820707
Files From here
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14
I used this one
Android 4.3
Blur_Version.14.71.8.falcon_umts.Retail.en.GB
*Retail UK*
407.3 MiB
40FD34F930D9ADD3AB3F65B5A23FCD00
Simple task, enable USB debugging, reboot into fastboot, run script, reboot.
Now just to wait for the Over The Air 4.4.2 update that is due any day for the UK phones.

I agree I paid too much.. no going back now.
However I disagree that using a Pseudo Stock Rom is superior to flashing an actual stock ROM
I've repacked the UK ROM with the necessary tools to convert a branded device (e.g. Tesco) to a generic device.

Wrong.
It is a full stock UK ROM. It wouldn't install if it wasn't.
In this case, repacked means adding the proper Moto fastboot tool, and a .bat file to automate the commands.
Appreciate the post, Tesco phone now on stock and unlocked via ebay..... cheers all.

Exactly, just does the long winded way from one simple command.
Actually, there is one error in the simple way, if you can call it that, he doesn't say you need to enable usb debugging before you start which might be confusing for noobs.
You don't need to enable it.
Put phone in fastboot, run .bat
Do you guys know if I can flash the US retail rom on my Canadian Koodo Moto g with the bootloader locked?
Try it and see, worst case scenario is it falls to install.

Not necessarily
My stock rom is not available yet so I would have to unlock the bootloader if it doesn't work. I want to keep my warranty. I will wait it out if I have to.

Calling All Nexus 9 LTE Owners

Hi Everyone,
If anyone has ordered a Nexus 9 LTE but not received it yet, I'm hoping you can help me out. When you get your tablet, a system update will be available out of the box. Please hold off on installing that update until you get a bit of information for me:
1. The bootloader version (boot the tablet into bootloader mode and look at the HBOOT version).
2. The baseband version (from Settings - About Tablet)
3. Open /system/build.prop in a text editor and post the values of ro.build.date.utc and ro.build.fingerprint.
4. When your tablet tells you that you have a system update available, please get the URL from logcat and post it.
Once that's done, do the update, enjoy your new tablet, and accept my eternal gratitude! If you need any help with any of this, I'll be happy to help you out.
If anyone would be willing to assist with this, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!

I had someone on another thread tell me he got an OTA out of the box and after the update he was on 5.0.2 LRX22G. There have been cases in the past, albeit rare, when Google has released an OTA but no factory image. So on your N9 LTE, it came out of the box with 5.0.1 and you didn't get any out-of-the-box OTAs and it didn't force you to do a system update during setup?

Just received XT1254 with unlocked BL

I did not believe until I received it and tried flashing absolutely all firmware out there for 1225/1254/1250 without bricking it. I then moved on to my next step in plan - install any retail version firmware but Verizon. I started the experiment with 4.4.4 first and found that 1225 radio will not work in 1254 (baseband simply cannot be recognised). Then I flashed 1254 radio on top (later with boot.img as well) and this make everything work except Wifi cannot be turned on. Although I don't expect it to work, I tried 1225 5.0.2 firmware with 1254 radio and as expected it does not work.
Honestly I was hoping the 1254 radio + 1225 firmware will work in 4.4.4, which means it should work when 5.1 comes out for 1225. I tried to find related information but there weren't much, maybe due to lack of BL unlocked 1254s out there. I once read someone write about radio.img must go with boot.img but I tried that. Just wondering if any of you experts here have advices for me. Well, I am assuming my phone will not be bricked so I am brave!

I know not too many would believe, until I can post the photos. Before I reach 10 posts, let me give a bit more information here - this unit was claimed to be unlocked by software, in 4.4.4 it shows UNLOCKED with status code 1, and in Lollipop it shows ENGINEERING. In both versions software version is MODIFIED instead of OFFICIAL. There are some discussion in China and it appears there are three ways to unlock - 1. engineering handset from factory, 2. officially unlocked, 3. software unlocked. The one I have is of the type 3, but as far as I can learnt from the internet, there is no major difference between type 2 and 3, if type 2 will ever exist...

Yes, I will certainly try it as soon as I received reply on the radio issue. At the moment I am still trying all I can to try to fix the Wifi cannot turn on problem in my 4.4.4 XT1254 radio + 4.4.4 XT1225 firmware combination. I honestly wouldn't mind using that for a while until I can use 5.1 XT1254 radio + 5.1 XT1225 firmware combination...
My objective is to get rid of Verizon firmware so the system is lighter and that I can have proper GSM call functions such as USSD, and tethering etc. I seem to remember that mixing firmware and radio can be done under the same Android version in the past with other Moto phones... Any suggestions or advices here would be highly appreciated.
Sorry for posting so much in a short time, I need to get to 10 posts and post the photos

[Newbie question] Step by step guide to install a new ROM for Note 4 (Verizon)

Hi
I am a newbie, so please pardon my ignorance. I have Galaxy Note 4 verizon. I am fed up of the bloatware that samsung and Verizon puts on it. So here I am seeking knowledge from tricks from the gurus.
I have never rooted this phone. I am really looking for step by step guide that will help me with the process form start to end (including making backups in case something went wrong in the installation).
I really appreciate all your help.
Thanks.

How about take 5 minutes and search

I actually did give a try but got overwhelmed with the info and the order in which things must be done. Some links were broken too. For example: How do I root my phone ...is there a standard way ? I found too many and got confused. Next, how do I take a full nandroid backup and different answers. Subsequently, which ROM should I chose for Note 4 (910V) ?
What I was looking for was a crisp set of info for newbies or a sticky thread ? Can you please point out if there is one ?
Thanks.
Dude the note 4 doesnt have a root that lets you put a rom on it. we have a temp root which you lose after a restart of the phone. so you cant put one on.
DONT PUT THE ROMS ON YOUR PHONE UNLESS YOU HAVE A DEVELOPER version of the phone, which i am assuming you dont have.

Wow...thanks for telling me this. So does that mean I cannot put any custom ROM on my Verizon Note 4 ?

And how can I determine if I have the developer edition or the retail version ? I mean is there any setting that can tell about it being a developer edition or retail ?

Developer Edition Note 4's can only be bought directly from Samsung. Even Samsung has stopped selling them. Every other seller sells the Retail Edition. A few Dev Ed's have been sold by private individuals. They are always sold specifically as a Dev Ed and lately they go for a very hefty price. If you weren't looking for a DE when you bought it you got a retail phone.
Under the battery of a DE they have "Developer Device" written there. Also in "Download Mode" they say "Mode: Developer". To get into download mode power the phone off then push the Power button, Home button and Volume Down rocker at the same time. After the warning screen about the dangers of installing custom software push the Up rocker and it goes into download mode. You have to remove the battery then boot up to get back to regular.
But the main thing is like I said before. If you weren't specifically looking for a Developer Edition before you bought it then you got a Retail phone.
They say this can be used to de-bloat a retail phone. I hope it helps.

My Note 4 Dev Ed has these numbers:
Model: SM-N910V UD
SKU: SMN910VZKE
These pics were taken of the 2 things that prove that it's a Developer Edition phone. If it doesn't have them it's retail.

They say a Developer Device is just a retail phone that went to the Developer Edition team where they applied the correct Dev Ed aboot partition which deactivates the Write Protection and unlocks the Bootloader. This aboot partition is written with info found only on that phone that it's applied on. It won't work on a different phone at all.
Then they were sold only by Samsung. They were never sold by Verizon, Best Buy or any other retail outlet. Now Samsung doesn't sell them any more either. But a few people have sold their Dev Ed's over here. A person just might find a used one there if they are lucky enough to be there at the right time with the money. That's how I got mine.

LG G5 Dual Sim Indian Variant Model - [H860N]

Hi There.Pre Ordered LG G5 H860N Dual Sim INDIAN Variant on 21st May 2016 will be in my hand tomorrow 30th May 2016.Will post images and screenshots of MODEL,SOFTWARE VERSION and all once i get it....!
This thread is to discuss the stuff [ROOT, XPOSED FRAMEWORK, RECOVERY(TWRP)] for H860N Dual Sim INDIAN Variant...!
As of now there is no root for Dual Sim Variants. So lets hope for the best...:good:
Yes I'm hoping for an easy root for the dual sim variants very soon But since I'm playing safe with my lovely phone, I'm not gonna root it until it will reach 1 year of lifetime. I have the H860N too btw (Hong Kong, but I'm from Philippines).
I think we should have separate section for the H860N and non-N variantd

860N here in India. Just bought one. Root and Xposed info will be highly appreciated.
I face a few issues whilst using the SD card. The camera takes the pictures and the videos, however after it writes onto the SD card, it is not able to play the videos nor it opens the pictures. Anyone else facing the same issues?
My current config: stock everything EXCEPT running St 560 DPI.

Thanks for the reply; but is there a way to know from the device itself whether it's the N variant or not?
Is it possible to use 3G networks on both SIM's? Or one must be GSM only?

Doesn't seem to be the case. It appears in India as H860 according to the phone itself. Not really sure how to tell at this point aside from looking at the box.

The box says H860, and the LG Saudi Arabia website says H860 as well.
Either way, I am getting tired of waiting for a root (or at least good news regarding it)...
