[Q] D80220F vs 80220D or C . Is there any difference ? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello
I have an open EU g2 and after using several custom roms i wanted to revert back to stock.
I used the LG IMEI tool and it told me that the phone is an open EU version . The download link for the firmware they suggested is for 80220C .
Yet, i see that there are open EU firmwares available for D or even F
is there anything that the F firmware brings ? Performance improvements etc ? Or should i stick to the C one as recommended by LG ?
This brings me to ask a few questions :
1. Since it's an open eu phone, shouldn't they all have the same software versions? I understand for carrier or country specific phones to have different firmware versions depending on the development speed etc, but why would Open EU d802 phones have different firmwares ? Note that if i use the default C one ... OTA says there are no updates available.
2. I see most custom roms are based on the 20F versions. Makes me wonder if it's because it's the latest one ... or if it brings any improvements ( even small ones )
So what do you say ... should i use C or F ? Any reason why ?
thanks guys

i searched the web for a changelog, nothing.
seems that lg does not give changelogs
perhaps someone knows the difference and has some advice on which one to use

1. I don't know, connect your phone to your PC and check for updates maybe like that. Sometimes those firmwares are with specific bug fixes for one country and probably also with other small bugfixes but sometimes its like country limited even if its open eu,
2.I think that 20F might be the latest,Stablest software version but I am not sure about it.
My advice is to just stay normal on stock and or check with your imei checker and maybe use that firmware.
Since the bugfixes are probably not a big list or noticeable for the average phone user it isn't so Important for small version differences or you gotta be an hardcore Fan.
I suggest to maybe look for custom roms which are using stock as base but only flash that stuff if you have the basic knowledge about flashing and can read carefully

Well here's my two cents:
The C and D versions are the second kitkat upgrade for different regions. They SHOULD be equal, and both of these stock images have certain bug fixes as the "fake" bluetooth drain in battery stats, fixed headset hissing issue and added knock code.
The F version, I believe, is a bugfix for 20D. 20D had issues with VoIP such as skype and Viber which would not function properly. 20F has not been pushed out to all users of 20D.
If you intend on keeping your device, flash 20F IMO. BUT
An important note: If you plan on SELLING your device, then flash 20C which is the one linked to your IMEI. Because you won't be able to get updates if your current software version doesn't match the one LG has linked with your IMEI.

thanks mate. i will flash 20F
regarding to the last thing you said ... yes i figured that the official software is the one that should be used when sending the phone to waranty or selling it
more than that ,... i found something interesting . I flashed several firmwares and ALL OF THEM made te status in download mode as "ROOTED" even though i was not rooted.
The only way to display unrooted in download mode is to flash the 20C firmware for my device. So it is obvious that this is the "correct" firmware for this particular phone.

Firmware version does not change with KDZ upgrade

My new LG came with D80210b-466-92 firmware and I flashed it with the UK T-Mobile version - also tried the Eur open version.
However, while the phone took the firmware upgrade, its still showing the old version of firmware i.e. D80210b-466-92. I've done the hard reset and the phone restarts in Chinese. Once I change to English its fine and all the Chinese apps are gone but its still showing the old firmware???
If I flash, say, the D80210a EUR firmware, the version changes to D80210a-466-92, not D80210a-EUR-xx as I would expect.
I have flashed about 8 firmwares (including Kitkat) and the last five digits (country code) never change but the first 7 always change as they should. The flashed firmware does seem to work OK, just the version does not update.
Any ideas?

Yeah, no one seems to know, its a real head scratcher.
466-92 is the Taiwanese country code AFAIK.
I don't think it affects the phone at all but I would like to know why it happens. Its the only seems to affect phones with the 466-92 firmware.
No ideas anyone?
answer
hy
i was having the same questions about the "466-92" code.
here is the catch...
the country/region code is encrypted in hardware of the phone, meaning the phone was build for that region and cannot be changed in any mode! - this answer i obtained from LG customer service.
still, you can put any of stock roms for your device (d802 in my case) and will work, all of them are original and compatible with device, working with same parameters (differences are in fact some apps in addition or in minus for some regions/countries that are bloatware anyway), so the basic is same for all (ex. 20a, 20b, 20c, 20h or 20d or other letters released)
NOTE 1. you can put any of stock rom for your device BUT only with a custom flashing program (ex. LG_flash_tool - which i use);
NOTE 2. if you wanna update or change your software with LG Mobile Support Tool (default and official program from LG to change/upgrade software), the phone will receive the software version for the region/country accordingly to THAT number/code from the end of the software name (D80220c-466-92 - in my case).
if you own a taiwanese version of d802 it will show the "466-92" all the time and with any version of software !
for questions or other details - contact me or reply

for country/region codes of your phone model search google, it's easy to find - and see what region your phone was made for
every region/country or group of countries have a version of software by default
ex. taiwan has the kitkat version 20c - d80220c-466-92, europe open has kk 20d - d80220d-eur-xx, and so on....
search fot them, there are plenty of forums and discussions

There is nothing official, because LG don't provide any real form of Changelogs - particularly where bugs are concerned.
For the d802 OPEN versions, the 4 builds are something like this:
20A - very buggy and replaced quickly by 20B - Forget it. We have.
20B - left hand channel audio problems on SOME hardware.
20C - audio problems gone
20A, 20B, 20C - "Bluetooth using battery" reporting error present.
20D - Knock code added and "Bluetooth using battery" reporting fixed. Battery drain increased from 20C.
There may be other funnies, of course.
Every Open EUR version is binary identical to the others (GB/ES/PT/DE etc.)
Personally, I use 20C on the Stock phone as it is the "least problematic". That doesn't mean it is so for everyone and every phone hardware version.
Also note that these are MY observations only. I have built the flashable versions of all the above (except the flaky 20A) as found in the 802 development forum.
I'm using 20C now and it's pretty sexy

[Q] New on LG , and i want to know some things about the softwares

Hi:
My brother have bought an LG G2 , and i am learning about it's modes , software , and other things.
I knew that the official softwares came like KDZ files , and i have downloaded the LG Flash Tool.
But about the softwares i know nothing.
In SONY softwares , every software came with all languages but may some will be hided depend on the software region.
In SAMSUNG you have to download the software that represent your region so you can get your language.
Please help me answer those questions:
1- Can i flash any KDZ on the Phone like all D802 softwares?
2- Does the all softwares include all languages like SONY?
3- How do i know the software build number and the android version? like "D80220C_00" what android version does it stand on? and how to know if softwares like "D80220A_00" and "D80220D_00" is newer or older?
4- I saw a links like those: http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=358635050100008
Does those links view the lastest new software of my phone that it's 100% compatible with it? i mean if i exchanged the IMEI with my real phone IMEI.
1. You can flash any KDZ for your g2 D802 model so dont flash other model kdz on your brothers phone, dont break it
2. I believe that it also has all the languages.
3. Build number is 20C and android version you can find in about phone. As far as I know LG higheres the build versions from like v10 to v20 if they update to an higher android version. So v10x is jellybean and v20x is kitkat.
I am not sure how to know the older and or newer ones, I just recommend to update your phone with lg pc suite or with that link from 4.
If you enter your imei then the link should appear with the latest software version for your phone.
5. Like I said before its your brothers phone so take it carefully, read everything good and keep it safe :good:
Btw, there are 32gb and 16gb device kdz. If you flash an 16gb kdz on an 32gb then it will only show 16. Vice versa I dont know what would happen, I think it will not be good or it will even not go.

You helped me so much
the only thing that still didn't understood that the version , because like what you said , 10x and 20x are the version so higher number is the newer software , but what about the x? in my brother phone it's 20C that shown on the link after entering the IMEI , so 20A and 20D are for other models or regions? or older and newer?
And what does SUFFIX number do? is it important?
I dont know exactly or 20 A is newer or D just watch the release date of it. With the x I mean like some version D or A.
I dont know really about the suffix number if it is on that url but I can tell you that you dont need to change your stock to another version since the most versions are like fixing small things, just wait for ota's.
Again the x I mean like this.
There is android 4.4.1 4.4.2 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 and gapps are for 4.4.X so also for the sub versions which mostly contains some bugfixes. But as far as I know on LG stock there arent so many bugs, on the g2 I am not sure since I dont even own that phone.

[Q] Upgrading to Kitkat

I had recently bought LG G2 D802 phone this month and I wanted to upgrade it to possibly Android 4.4 Kitkat from Android 4.2 Jellybean So, I went to 'Update Center > Software Update in phone settings.
The update is known as:
"v20a-MAR-07-2014 (534.84 MB)"
Firstly, I would like to know whether this Kitkat or lollipop or whatever update it is?
After a few megabytes of downloading, the native download manager reports an error "Cannot download" and there's no way to resume it from where it left. I have tried this process many times and every time it failed and I am sure there's nothing wrong with my Wi-fi.
While I was looking for an alternative way to manually grab this update via PC, I tried "LG PC Suite" to check for updates which said that: "2 upgrades are available" and the latest version is lollipop as the picture in attachment shows. but I only wish to upgrade to Kitkat OS. Is possible that I just disconnect my phone from PC Suite after it finishes applying only just one upgrade and not the lollipop upgrade?
Most likely it's Kitkat. Lollipop for G2 is named like V30A, V30B, V30D and so on. You can download KDZ file for your device and flash it.
URL: http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=123123123
You have to replace 123123123 with your device's IMEI.

You can only download the newest available KDZ on the linked page. Probably not KK, since it's not the newest available for the D802.
Search around a bit. You should be able to find the KK KDZ for the region you want linked somewhere on xda. Just refer to the sticky post regarding flashing a KDZ.
And no you shouldn't disconnect your device during the update. Also the DL is failing because KK isn't available through LG servers anymore.
Happy upgrading

It sounds like a bad news that they have taken down the link from their Official website. So far the phone is working just fine and I am not sure if I should even update the phone to anything since many of the users from the forums all over the internet (as I have read) are complaining about how the updates ruined their phone (I assume especially the G2) and brought so many disappointing bugs to deal with.

AFAIK most bugs plaguing KK got fixed in the end. I remember downgrading from KK to JB because of some audio issues. They are now not present anymore, and KK is as stable as it gets. It even performed better than JB (the ui used to animate way too quickly so it looked laggy, and fixed the microstuttering in most apps).
I would personally recommend KK. Have had some problems with LP, where it wouldn't run as smoothly and the battery life was a tad worse, so now I'm back on KK.

Korean G4 F500 S/L/K with Stock Nougat 7.0 Help & Tips 2019!

Hello LG fans,
There is an old thread with a similar title, but since it is inactive I started this one. For certain reasons I got this G4 phone only few days ago. The model number on the box and under-battery tag as well as in settings showed F500 (just F500 without any suffix S, L, or K). It came with Android 5.1, and everything was working well. Online search showed that F500X phones can be officially updated to Nougat 7.0, but the phone OTA update said no update was available.
As per LG website, I installed LG Bridge to get the updates. It identified the phone as F500K and found two updates. First it installed 6.0 Marshmallow and then 7.0 Nougat software version F500K30c. Also the model no changed to F500K in settings. I think this probably means it is is a refurbished phone
The Installation was successful, but it installed a Korea Telecom version with some Korean stuff. I uninstalled or disabled all the Korean bloat I could without root, but there are still a few things remaining, and some Korean language here and there.
In general, I’m quite satisfied with the phone. The only thing I wish to get rid of is the KT Wifi manager app which is all in Korean, and I don’t know what it does or which settings to select. It is a system app, and I can’t uninstall or disable it, but my wifi and data networks seem to be working fine, so no complaints. I’ve seen several people here and elsewhere complaining about network issues, boot loops and bricks, but so far I haven’t experienced any. I hope it stays this way :fingers-crossed:
I was wondering about the other variants F500S and F500L, do they also have Korean bloat and is it more or less than F500K? I have read somewhere that these three firmware variants can be interchangeably installed. Is this the case, and if so, is it advisable to install another variant? I have been reading about this phone, but this is my first time to use an LG phones, and I have no experience with their software and tools, so any help, ideas or suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Thanks

You could
downgrade to MM,
backup with SALT (CRUCIAL important),
unlock by UsU ,
extract with SALT: system ,modem and boot partitions from a f500 kdz,
root and debloat or (if you like to) install a custom ROM
Check the UsU and SALT threads (you can find both in my signature)

Thank you @steadfasterX for your reply,
It's quite an honor the Guru himself was the first to reply to my post. I have seen many of your posts and replies in the forum before, and now looked at some of the stuff in your signature. Pretty impressive work. I definitely need to spend some time learning about them particularly SALT and FWUL, as I have also started learning and using Linux lately. How come FWUL is not shown on distrowatch?
For the time being, I was thinking to stick to stock Nougat 7.0 as it's a fairly recent OS, and the phone is fine even with the remaining little Korean stuff. My main dissatisfaction really is with the mysterious kt wifi manager app which is all in Korean and has some settings which I don't know what they are. If just replacing the current Nougat 7.0 with another variant S or L is actually possible, and these variants don't have a similar app, this would be great.
I have been searching for information about these S/L/K firmware variant differences but couldn't find much. I hope other S & L phone owners could tell us about their phones. The only thing I could find so far is that each is for a different carrier in Korea, and that they can be interchangeably installed as per a Reddit post. I don't know how reliable this information is!
From a purely technical perspective for G4 F500 , is it possible to flash another F500 variant using LGUP, or is this something that shouldn't be done? I have seen many people getting in trouble for flashing wrong firmware. If this is safe to do, do I need to do any preparation work like downgrading to MM first, and should this be done as an upgrade or a refurbish? For what it's worth, my ARB value is 0.
Thanks

1. to downgrade to MM... use uppercut, right? I'm using latest 20u for F500l is OK for UsU?
2. after backing up with SALT, can I revert back anytime after unlock and with new custom ROM?
3. after rooting, do I install twrp and load custom ROM? and can I extract 30b Nougat's modem from KDZ to use with the custom ROM?

ok so one thing first. the most important one: Ensure you keep your ARB at 0. This is crucial important. So never ever flash anything (including QFIL restore files!!!) where you are not 10000% sure it wouldn't increase your ARB.
If you are about to flash a KDZ then check that file with SALT first (simply press extract and it will display the ARB). If you flash anything else.. well ensure that the files offered have that information listed and hope and pray its not wrong (e.g. there are QFIL files around which are labeled for a ARB 0 model but contain ARB2 files..). Never heard about a wrong labeled KDZ file but who knows.
The second important thing is (maybe its even the first): before doing anything, do a full backup with SALT (basic is fine) and (!!) move that to a secure place! (I saw so many ppl who lost their backup through several ways).
So when going on through the UsU process you will have 2 SALT backups: the one before downgrading to MM and another one after you downgraded to MM (tbh the more important one). If you can keep them both.
so about flashing other variants: yes it IS technically possible to even flash e.g. h815 ROMs to a F500 and so converting it that way! but never try that with h811 KDZs or others..
anyways yea you could flash other F500 variants without fear (just carrier bloat is different) as long as you follow the above advises.

1. I dunno the latest MM F500 version but "20u" sounds good. Can't help in the downgrade process but there are plenty of guides here in the G4 forums.
2. dunno that you mean here.. but if you wanna know if you can stay on STOCK after UsU'ing yea sure. flashing UsU does not require to go for a custom ROM. It just gives you the freedom to do so.
3. if you follow the UsU guide you will have TWRP already and that's the place where you install a custom ROM if you like. Sure extract the 30b modem and flash it in fastboot should work fine (after UsU).

if you would flash h811 on yours you will increase your ARB so do NOT flash that.
Use a h815 based ROM even when SALT compat shows different. your partition layout is somehow weird..
for non-UsU ROMs flash the f500(!!) baseband package once

You could
downgrade to MM,
backup with SALT (CRUCIAL important),
unlock by UsU ,
->> extract with SALT: system ,modem and " boot partitions from a f500 kdz, "
root and debloat or (if you like to) install a custom ROM
Sent from my OnePlus 6T using XDA Labs
