Any Dropbox promo for the Note 4? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I purchased my note 2, it came with a 50gb dropbox promo, which is pretty awesome, but it'll be expiring in a few weeks. Does anyone know, or has anyone mentioned another similar promo for the Note 4?

I believe I read somewhere there is a Dropbox promo. 50gb the usual.

Alright, then I'll just move the files over temporarily to free up space, then I'll move it all back at a later time.

any proof of this?

Yes, they are still giving 48 GB free (above the 2 GB already free) for two years with new Samsung devices.
Edited to add: though it says "If you're new to Dropbox". So YMMV.

Microsoft gives 30GB by enabling auto photo upload. Not sure will it expire.
If DropBox gives 50GB for 2 years.. what then? Buy Note 5?

It's a great offer, even if it's just to store some large Titanium Backup files.

The OneDrive 30 GB should be permanent. I use OneDrive for photo backups. I don't really use my Dropbox for much any more. I guess I should start storing my TiBu backups there, that makes sense.
Since the DropBox promo is for 2 years, you can wait until the Note 6 to buy a new one.

TiBackups require root. Right?
If I'm not mistaken if you root latest Samsung flagships you alter the security fuse (warranty issues; can't use encryption anymore or something).
Just not sure if I'll be a fan of rooting anymore. Not an issue with Nexus phone at the moment.

All true. I'm on my Note 2 still at the moment, which is rooted. I want to put my TiBu backups on Dropbox for whenever I do change phones. obviously it will be useless if I get an AT&T Note 4, though.
I'm also interested in the new Nexus now that the rumors are pointing to basically a 5.92" Moto X with a big battery. We'll see what they ultimately reveal.
I'm not super concerned about warranty, and I will definitely root my new phone if it's rootable. I have enough lines at AT&T to bully my way into a free replacement.

Once you've used Xposed, ad blockers, titanium and other root tools that make our devices super-devices, there's no turning back! LOL
If Samsung fails to cover a hardware problem because the device is rooted, they're gonna get sued.

AT&T specifically opted out of this promotion, because they want us to use their crap-ass AT&T locker.
I got it on my at&t s2 once it received jellybean.

I personally used a modified APK that someone whipped up a couple months ago (and got banned from XDA for it, i think), that tricks the Dropbox servers into thinking that you're connecting with a new S III or Note II that has that promotion, and gives you the 48GB of space, but you have to do some extra tweaking, since your Android's device ID (not IMEI) is stored in Dropbox's servers, and if they see that same ID as an S IV (or Note 1 in my case), then they'll revoke your space.
Totally not endorsing it either, the Dropbox team are some cool dudes, don't do them over.
It's not all that worth it either, they only give you the space for a year and then drop you back down.
YMMV, but if you sync a drop box account on a T-Mobile Note 2 you will get the bonus space.
I had a Note 2 for awhile and with that bonus I'm up to 78.8GB now.
My guess is you could go into a store and do it on the demo model...but I can't really recommend this and can't promise it'd work.

Make sure to add your account before going into Gdrive. When you go into Gdrive it asks you which account you want to use to redeem and lists the accounts already in the phone. I tried and apparently screwed up or it didn't work. I'll assume I just screwed up.

i didn't add mine before opening, cuz I didn't even realize I would be able to redeem it until I opened. I just exited without touching anythign then went to add my account, came back and redeemed it on mine.

Can someone versed in Google drive answer a question for me? Is there a way to make photos upload automatically to drive, or should I just use Google plus for that?

There is an app on play store for auto upload pictures to gDrive.

Is there anything Gdrive is better than over dropbox? (other than being free with the X) Serious question. At $4.99 a month for 100gb it's pretty cheap. hmm so that brings up other questions. If you have 15gb already does it stack to 65gb then if you add the $4.99 a month for 100 does that stack to 165 gig? That's what I want if it works.
The 15gb is part of the 100gb. So if you do what you describe you would end up with 150gb for 4.99$

Are there details on this offer anywhere? Like is this for ALL carriers? or just certain ones?
Like the DropBox deal on the Galaxy S3 was available for T-Mobile S3 users, but not Verizon S3.
EDIT: "spects" tab on Verizon's page for the X does say "Get 50 GB of storage on Google Drive, free for two years."
A tip -- if you happened to skip over the redeem button and can't find it again, just go to Settings -> Product Tour in Drive and it will be there (if you had it to begin with).

[Q] Dropbox promotion lost??

Hi,
When i received my new S5 (SM-G900F), i did the following in this order:
-CF-autoroot install
-TWRP 2.7.0.0 install
-titanium backup install
-Restored my apps (user apps ) from my S3 (I9300) Omnirom backup to my S5
Since that in the bunch I had dropbox, it seems that I have disrupted something because the promotions (50GB for 2 years) is not triggered:crying:
So I can access my files in dropbox but when I check my account, Dropbox doesn't mention my S5 space upgrade...
Did I blew my chance to get that free space??
Is it a way to repare that??
Thanks !!!
Did you already used samsung Dropbox deal on other device? If so, it's only once per account.

Yes, I used my dropbox account with samsung S3 promotion 2 years ago...
The promotions will end in a few days...
On dropbox site they say:
The first Dropbox account that signs in to the app on the device will get 48 GB of free space (assuming the other conditions are met). Each account is only able to claim this promotion once.

Now I wonder, is promotion from samsung s3 and samsung s5 different or not?
I mean, when my s3 promotions is over , will the S5's one take over or am i out it for good???
The only way to get it, is to create a new Dropbox account I think.
You could try resetting to factory settings then trying dropbox to get the promotion then restore your titanium backup. Or if you did a nandroid backup of stock once you installed TWRP try restoring that, then try dropbox, once it's registered on your dropbox account restore your titanium backup.
This sounds like a con. Nowhere on any of Samsung's promotion does it say of you had a previous promotion you won't get this one for your S5. This needs reporting.
This also happened to me. After s4, s4 active, note 3 and now s5 none of them has bring me another 50 go. It's very very stupid. At least our time should be extended to another 2 years, I don't really need 150 or 200 go but the time is running away... what we should do?

I do think the time should be extended at least ( also, I was wondering why Samsung is not making more noise about it, like they brag alot on linkedin or wallstreet journal but not on dropbox).

Saving it until I need it. I usually use it to support devs for apps I use that I haven't already bought/donated to.
If you want you can buy a premium key for Titanium Backup as it'll be usefull for you in case you want to move from one device to another!
I've already bought all the premiums for the apps I use. I guess I'll sell it on ebay and make my tax back from the 6p.

I know titanium has been around forever but Is it safe to restore from one rom to the other... Will it cause issues with the system? If they are different. I always read do not restore data from titanium. I have always started fresh when romming. Even though its such a pain... I think I'll purchase some games that I probably wouldn't have purchased otherwise. And see what other apps people come up with

It's always been recommended not to restore the data for those individual apps, though

Are you 100% sure? When you go to check out from the "Google Store" (not app section) one of the drop down "Pay With" options is Google Play Balance. Unless the 50 bucks doesn't go into that same bucket of money, I am not sure how they would be able to tell what is my deposited money and their credit money.

I did not know that damn that sucks. Why just not ATT? Other Note 5s had root. But every phone I have had in the last 5 or 6 years has gotten root. My galaxy S2 on boost mobile I had root. My LG G pro on Att with locked bootloader got root. Same with my LG V20. They said oh no the bootloader is locked it will not get root.. It got root. When a phone first comes out everyone starts freaking out about root and someway somehow it gets root. Now you did throw a wrench in the machine about the Note 5 on Att. Hope I am right and we do get it.

I hope I'm wrong and we get root on Note 8 like on S8 and S7 versions.
The real problem is that root is not full root. It's always based off the engineering kernel/firmware now (for both the S7 and the S8) and it severely limits the performance of the device.
The S8 can only charge to %80 once it's rooted, it also breaks Netflix, and most of the Samsung apps. Also the bootloader is still locked down tight so there is no way to flash AOSP.
It's really not worth it. There are ways to get almost everything without root now.
