The BEST Google Play Services/ Google Search battery drain fix - AMAZING BATTERY LIFE - G3 General

I'm sure many of you are aware of the battery drain issues with Google Play Services and Google Search. These two system apps cause constant wake-locks, robbing your device of the deep sleep it deserves. Up until now, the only solutions have limited some functionality, such as location services. I have discovered how to STOP the Google battery drain AND retain ALL functionality. Now I can easily make it through the day while making phone calls, streaming music, browsing the web, viewing social media, watching videos and more and end the day with 50% battery remaining. This is the heavy users dream: retain all functionality AND have maximum battery saving.
Here are the results:

I left the phone unplugged overnight with mobile data, wifi, bluetooth, and NFC all running. I'm using the stock LG rom. As you can see, the phone was in deep sleep 98% of the time over a nearly 8 hour period.
You should know, though, that if you do this, the "Google Now Everywhere" feature will no longer be available.
Here is my guide to eliminate the Google battery drain:
Pre-requirements:
-MUST BE ROOTED!!
-MAKE A BACKUP! Use nandroid if you can. Some people report problems re-installing Play Services, so it's best to have a backup. (However, there are steps in this guide to get Play Services re-installed if you did not make a backup.)
-Titanium Backup - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&hl=en (Make a backup of the system apps "Google Search" and "Google Play Services" before you do anything!)
-Greenify - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify&hl=en
-Wakelock Terminator - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.andro.wlt&hl=en (Xposed module, must be running Dalvik runtime (don't worry, this is usually enabled by default)
-requires Xposed Framework! http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer)
PERFORM AT YOUR OWN RISK!! Some people are reporting problems with not being able to re-install Play Services and have had to factory restore their device (be especially cautious if your bootloader is locked and you can not perform a nandroid backup.)
____________________________________________________________________________________________________
1. Use Titanium Backup to freeze Google Search and Google Play Services. This is done in the checkmark menu under the Freeze / Defrost section.
2. Use Titanium Backup to convert Google Play Services to a user app. This automatically defrosts it too.
3. Repeat this freeze/ convert to system app process for Google Search. It is important to do Search after Play Services to ensure that Search does not start calling Services and messing something up.
4. (You may need to reboot at this point.) Open Wakelock Terminator and search for Google Play Services. Click on it and check "Prevent wake lock". In the "Filter wake lock" field type in "NlpCollectorWakeLock" and "com.google.android.gms"
5. (Optional, but ultimate battery life will be achieved with this step.) Open greenify and enable greenify on both Google Search and Google Play services.
6. In Greenify, go to the "Experimental Features." Check "Keep Notifications" and "GCM push for greenified apps". This ensures that you will still receive push notifications that use Play Services.
7. After they are greenified, enable "always ignore its running state" on Google Play Services within Greenify itself. In order to do this, you need to get Play Services to run in the background. (opening Maps or Google Search should do this.) Now you can highlight Google Play Services in Greenify and select "state always ignored for hibernation". (You may have to enable "reconsider state" for this option to show.)
____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Now test your device! Allow it to sit overnight and look at BetterBatteryStats in the morning to see how long your deep sleep was, check partial wake-locks, and check alarms.
Now enjoy your highly improved battery life and be the envy of all your friends!
This fix required a lot of tinkering and trial and error on my part. I do believe this is the best fix so far for Google background processes that retains all functionality. Please hit the thanks button if this worked for you!
IMPORTANT NOTE: It should be taken into consideration that if you ever want to do a factory reset, you need to convert these apps back to system apps. If you do not, your device will enter an eternal force close loop once reset, and the only way to fix it then is to flash the firmware back.

That deserved a thank you, whether it worked or not. I'm not rooted for the moment, I'm running a little rooted vs non-rooted experiment of my own but thanks for the hard work.:good:

I appreciate your testing and sharing of knowledge, but I easily get 2 days of battery life with Wifi only off at night, so I do not see the need for this. I am on the i-ROM Version on D855 since three weeks. But it will surely assist people on early ROM-variants I guess.

I remember a long time back googling about nlp wakelocks and found a guide from the s3 forums
on my Note 2 i uninstalled google search and play services and then after rebooting when i wanted to download them from google play, it didnt open anymore
i installed an aosp 442 google apps package then and everything started working again AND true enough even then the wakelocks were considerably controlled and battery improved.
my g3 is not my primary phone yet so havent tried it yet, it doesnt have a recovery yet either, and no complaints about battery with the kind of usage i put it to
just sharing an earlier experience

The main point is that during the day, when you have wifi, mobile data, bluetooth, nfc, etc. all running and are using the phone extensively, you get great battery life. Google runs a ton in the background and this eliminates it. It gives your phone about 50-60% more deep sleep time.

This solution should theoretically work for all android devices and is probably best suited for people who do not want to deal with custom ROMs but still want to have great battery life. I didn't realize we could flash ROMs on the G3 yet. Thanks for sharing

With this method, it doesn't just considerably control the wakelocks, it practically eliminates them. This is simply a way to get the absolute best battery life realistically possible with a stock ROM and will theoretically work with all android devices having problems with nlp wakelocks.

Everytime i uninstall google play services everything stops working. Cant even open google search

Hi.. Thanks for this guide.
I've stumbled upon one thing in step 7. I cant find the setting state always ignored for hibernation.

Perhaps this is what he is referring to. Select Google play services in greenify and then go into settings and check "disable auto-hibernation".

Thanks for this technique, it worths to mention in OP that nandroid backup is recommended, just to avoid having problems after uninstalling Google Play Services for some users. They can restore backup in case something wrong happens.

App ops also help disabling keep awake for Google play services. Thanks for the guide

Dam i didnt think about app ops and now the play store crashes constantly and i will prob factory reset.. Thx anyways

Ok, but to do a "nandroid" backup as you say, you must have an unlocked bootloader and do a backup from CWM or TWRP, right ? Or is that doable with Titanium ??

Use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup
It makes nandroids very mouch without unlocked BL.
But to restore It maight be good with custom recovery. But to have cwm or twrp you dont need unlocked bootloader anyway.

Google spikes 21 malicious apps with big download counts from the Market
Google just removed some 21 apps from the Market in the last day from a publisher going by Myournet for doing all sorts of naughty things to your device. Offenses include attempting to root your phone, uploading phone information (including IMEI) to who-knows-where, and -- most egregiously -- adding a backdoor that allows additional code to be pulled down and executed.

Any of the well known Antivirus app for android should have picked it up.
I used to think we'll never need an AntiVirus app for Android... well think again.
after reading the article i downloaded all of them to run a full scan and the results are good
I scanned my phone and it's all clean

you can simply un-install it, it doesn't really do anything to your phone until you run the app
and even if you did, uninstalling it will remove the problem
Flashing the phone is a bit over the top it's enough to do a system wipe if you want to be 100% sure, and then restore all your apps from backup, excluding the fake ones

This is actually an incomplete answer.
As noted on Android Police, (I'm new so I can't link there) these apps open a backdoor, which can download additional apps that can do *anything*. The original app doesn't do much on its own. But, removing the infected app will leave behind the additional malware introduced through the backdoor.
Is there anyone who knows if these apps actually worked? What I mean is if the games for example were actually games? The reason I ask is that there is a bubble shoot like game installed on a friends phone which works (not sure if it's the one mentioned above).
So would you be able to recognize that malicious app in that way?
Edit: just noticed on the Lookout Blog that they actively send out a patch to detect these apps (if I read it correctly):
http://blog.mylookout.com/2011/03/s...-found-in-official-android-market-droiddream/
So if you have not yet scanned for those apps, do it now ;-)
Thanks for the information!
How to remove and consequences
First i manyally uninstalled the "Advanced Barcode Scanner" of KingMall2010.
Second i scanned my device with Kasparsky and Lookout, both didn't find any threads.
In the end i performed a reset to factory settings and a format of my SD-card.
Can anyone please tell me if this actions are sufficient to completely whipe this malware of my device?
Also i would like to know if this malware actively sent my private data to servers, or that it just opened a backdoor for later use. And if my data is already sent, what are the consequences and which actions should i take to do something about it.

What you've done so far seems sufficient enough to clear the malware from your phone system. Even if it copied a backup on your SD card (internal & external) if you've wiped both then it should be ok.
In regards to already leaked data, I would immediately change my passwords to gmail, emails, facebook, ebay etc or any other site that you may have used on your phone.

Thanks for your quick reaction. It makes me a little more comfortable. Indeed i already changed my password's.
I already called my phone provider, but apparently could not tell me whether the IMSI (international mobile subscription identity) and SIM card serial number are sufficient information to clone my SIM card. This is the information that would be sent by the malware to remote servers.
Therefor after work i go to get a new SIM card. It's better to be safe than sory after all.
I'm still not convinced on running a constant anti-malware app on my phone. Even with a good processor, my cpu cycles are a precious resource to keep my phone running light and fast.
How heavy on system performance is lookout? Does it only activate and scan when new material is installed?
Lookout scans when u download or install any app on your phone, i havent noticed it running unless im installing

yes, it only runs after you install a new app from market
i installed it after reading about the news, before that, i had no reason to worry about the stuff i download from the official android market
Much thanks for the heads up on this issue!
my question is what is the deal with app planet? i have it installed on my phone along with another app mentioned on the list...why would app planet be something to be worried about???
(P.S. im about five minutes away from wipeing my phone spottless clean thx for the Alert!!!!!)

[TUTORIAL] Merge Xposed, Tasker, Autovoice and Google Now to use phone only by voice

Guide
How to merge Xposed, Tasker, Autovoice and Google Now all together
Hi Guys!
This is a guide about how to integrate tasker, xposed, autovoice and google now and get our device to work with voice (even when screen is off)
Read carefully the disclaimer and follow the guide only if you know what you’re doing
 Credits
Credits go to all the developers who created the apps/plugins/xposed modules I use in this guide and also to @memnoc who wrote this useful guide that gave me this idea...
I got some ideas also reading guides around the web, but I haven’t found one which merges all this things all together, so here it is

Purpose
The purpose of this guide is to let our devices act like a Nexus 5 or a Moto X: in the first one you can say “ok google” to launch Google Search in the homescreen, in the second one you can do that even when the phone is in standby :good:

Disclaimer
I’m not responsible for bricked devices or wrong setups, this is a part of my personal setup and I’m sharing this “as is”…
Moreover pay attention when setting up tasker, because if you make any mistake you might put your phone in a “non-unlocking loop” and you will be cut off from it…
I'm not using free versions of the apps, but the donate ones! (should work also on free versions, not sure anyway)
Remember also that this setup can drain a lot of battery as it enables our phones to listen to commands even with screen off (you can put a tasker trigger to let it work only with screen on, for example)
I’ve tried this setup only with my phone and it works, so if you test this on yours and it works, please let me know
You can edit this instructions to fit your needs, those are only a guideline…
I’ve got a lot of profiles and tasks in my tasker homescreen because I’ve made a lot of automation, so if I miss something please let me know, I’ll add it asap
if you use my guide and follow my instructions, then you accept the disclaimer

Let’s start
When you have met all the requirements, you can start:
Google api configuration:
 1) Open google api and tick both checkboxes and be sure autovoice is inside plugin list
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Autovoice configuration:
 1) Open autovoice and toggle continuous listener switch on
2) enable google now api integration
3) Edit search type to “both”
Tasker configuration:
**if you want, you can download a minimum working profiles setup from OP#3, but i suggest you to read ths part anyway**
Here there is the real important part… you will have to setup different tasks and toggles to have everything working, also because when you start google now autovoice continuous mode stops working and you have to re-enable it…
Keep in mind that if you want to perform tests or change anything during configuration you might need to restart autovoice continuous mode manually, as sometimes it stops working after configurations…
Nothing to worry about anyway
Moreover, if you restart autovoice, pay attention to be in tasker home screen after setting up a task or a trigger, because if you have any pending task/profile configuration autovoice continuous mode might not work properly
p.s. I had those issues on my device with many other tasker triggers and tasks, so you might not encounter them along you way
if Tasker asks you Root permissions, give them to it…
I set my recognition language to en-EN because I’m Italian, infact when I talk to my phone I prefer to do this in English so I will not trigger anything while speaking to my friends J. I also set up a trigger word (viper in my case) so if I’m talking to someone and I say “home” my device will not reconfigure itself for home (to do that I will have to say “viper home”)
When prompting a command after a trigger word, wait a couple of seconds and I suggest you to setup a timeout for command recognition after trigger word…
My device has not an unlock pattern/sim/password, so it’s quite simple to wake it up with a word… if your device has some security lockscreen protection, search in tasker/secure settings instructions how to remove it and re-enable it again (only required if you want your device to listen to you even if its screen is off)
allow tasker external access in preferences and also uncheck beginner mode (should work even without external access, but not sure)
1) Setup a state trigger, call it Autovoice Daemon, search for plugin/Assistant Event for tasker, click it and click “pencil icon in top-right corner” after configuration: it will auto configure itself, do not do anything else here
2) Link a task to it, call it Autovoice Daemon and add plugin/Autovoice Recognize and configure it like mine
edit language according to your likings
3) Create a new state trigger, call it Autovoice Google, search for plugin/Autovoice Recognized and configure it this way: event behaviour “true”, command filter is “google” and trigger word is “viper” (that's for me, you can change it as you prefer)
4) Link a task to it, call it GN and set it up this way
--to setup secure settings, click add/plugin/secure settings and configure them… you will need 3: the first one is to enable keyguard, the second one to disable it and the third one is to wake device (set it to wake both screen and keyboard)
Now, if you restart the autovoice continuous mode and turn display off, after saying “viper google” Google Now should appear on display and you can say "ok google" to do what you want (in the language you want)… google api integration is required to let google handle autovoice triggers
Remember that launching google now will break autovoice continuous mode, so you will need to find a way to disable continuous mode and to re-enable it according to your needs… tasker can easily handle that…
For example I set tasker to turn off continuous mode when google now is opened and to turn it on again when I lock device (this is enough for my likings )
I also set the phone to vibrate after recognition of “viper” trigger word, so I know when the trigger word has been accepted and I can tell the command…
Possibilities are unilimited let your fantasy guide you
Hope you liked the guide, if I missed something or you want more explanations, tell me please
have a nice day!

Tasker Minimum Working Confguration
(requirements descripted in OP must be met to getting this working)
ok guys, here attached you can find the minimum required profiled/tasks for getting everything working...
i've tried to delete all tasker data from my setup and imported only those and it worked, so you shouldn't encounter issues...
to be sure it will work, verify in tasker preferences that beginner mode is unticked and external access is allowed...
pay attention that those come from my personal configuration, so there might be instructions/settings/profiles/etc not suitable for your personal configuration and so i STRONGLY suggest you to check my profiles and tasks before activating them, i won't be responsible for issues/bricked devices/hair loss or apocalypse
to import them, extract files from zip, put them to sd card, open tasker, click on profiles tab, select import and browse to the files...
the trigger word is "viper"
the word used to launch google now after saying "viper" is "google" (how much fantasy here )
the profile "autovoice recognised" is used only to make the phone vibrate when the trigger word is listened and recognized, so it's not "strictly" required to have everything working
in those profiles you won't fing anything to toggle autovoice continuous mode on/of or to preserve battery life, so if you set everything up the battery might drain very, VERY fast; sorry guys, but you will have to manage this on your own to fit your needs (anyway ask here if you want suggestions )
please edit those profile according to your likings, so for example you can set them/add others so as phone will isten to your voice when it's inside car dock, it might be useful when driving... i assume that in this scenario car charger will be plugged in, so battery won't drain too much
if i forget something please let me know
p.s. i won't write the detailed guide if those profiles work, because it woult take a lot of time and moreover you can deduce all the steps looking at profiles uploaded here...
if you want to change trigger word, jump here
Security Warning!
pay attention that enabling those profiles everyone who knows your trigger word can unlock and wake your device, even if an unlock sequence is set... i've not tested them with pin/password protection..

I've got a Nexus 5 and I've been looking for a way to voice-wake the phone for months and although I've found workarounds, I've not found anything yet that will turn the phone on by voice.
So I tried this method word-for-word and it doesn't seem to have any effect. I dunno whether I'm using wrong intents within Tasker at certain steps or not but maybe a full, step-by-step for each additional task might be useful? Just to be sure that everyone is matching? Just a thought.
I know that the step to open Google Search isn't necessary on my device but the rest seems obvious enough....kinda.
Any thoughts or possible amendments from Nexus 5 owners?

edit: i just checked my guide steps and my working settings on my phone, and they work, so i'll definitely write a post with detailed tasker steps, at least to wake up device

autovoice showed me the option from the first time i looked for it, even installing the plugin after autovoice... try to restart autovoice or to reboot the device... anyway it's not strictly required to wake up device, it's required only to let google now handle autovoice triggers set inside tasker...

Everything is set up, but Tasker states there are no active profiles, even though both profiles are toggled to "ON" in the profile menu :-/ Using RAZR Maxx HD
Anyone have any ideas? First time Tasker-er here.

Android 5.1 safe to remove apps

Here is my list of apps that I have frozen. I'm on sprint so, all Verizon junk has been frozen. If you are on any other network, be cautious to remove apps related to that network. Also, if you use any of the Google apps, such as documents, you obviously do not want to freeze them. Same goes for other apps.
So fat everything has been working great.

Not really sure if I would consider Google Device Policy bloat

Wow. Why not just buy a dumb phone?

I mean, isn't android system webview required just to surf the net?
---------- Post added at 07:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:51 PM ----------
What do you actually use on your phone?
If you would have listed what you enabled, I think the list would have been shorter.
Just out of curiosity, you write above that you disabled all Verizon junk, but going through the list, it makes me think whether you even use the N6 in daily life.
Some apps are really necessary, but you should definitely not disable "Android Web View" because this is regular updated to maintain compatibility (not sure whether also bugs are fixed with it)
Well to be fair. It is a pretty good list. I freeze many of the same programs he has because I will never use them. I'm not going to ever Cloud Print or the Google launcher or use Chrome or Gmail because I have my own programs for that I don't need them ever to run. Ever.
My issue was freezing things that may affect your security.

Hahaha. You guys are funny. I use my phone everyday. I spent a bunch of time texting, emailing, making phone calls, browsing the web, watching videos, Skype/Viber, Pandora via Bluetooth. Sure I don't play games and don't use much of what Google preinstalled, but that that doesn't mean the phone is useless. All I can say is that my battery life is simply amazing.
That's a lot..
Android System WebView is the wrapper that apps use to load webpages in the app. I would not disable that...
EDIT: Second thought, this whole list blows.
what a joke of a list. i've only removed the Verizon/Sprint crap and a few of the languages i'll never use.
i'm getting ~2 days of use while still using it normally. i get disabling/freezing/uninstalling gmail when you use another app, but killing half the services that make it actually useful is ridiculous.
So what's the point of buying a Google phone if you're gonna disable Google?

Have a phone that is easy to unlock and root? I don't watch movies on my phone at least not from google, I use google mail but not a fan of their app, I do not like the newsstand, etc etc etc. Why would I want these services/ or apps ever to run if I am never going to use them
I use the play store ,
I think he went a bit overboard on the list but it is nice to know IF you want to turn these off you "can" :good:
Does anyone know if there's a way I can transfer some of these Google system apps to user apps and delete them? Not the important ones as much as apps like Fit and stuff like that.

No need to move them.
You could delete them with Root Explorer
But I would suggest you back them up and delete them with Titanium Backup

I think it is a good Idea to disable apps and services when they are not used.
But of course everybody has his own idea.
I am using Gmail and Keep and the Daydreams and instead of Photo's I installed the good old KitkatGallery.apk.
For me your list is an example. But the list rather long because of the use of screenshots.
For everybody who wants to disable not used software I made your list with text only.

so I removed VZW Backup app with TitaniumBackup and now I am getting "buacontactadapter has stopped working" whenever I uninstall an app...
i assume because it was tied to Google's app backup process?
can i fix this or can someone upload their apk for me so i can reinstall?
edit: i rebooted and tested, notification went away. oh well
Yes you typically backup something before you delete it unless you're 100% sure, otherwise you have no emergency button [emoji722]

it seems it was just a glitch where google was pinging the backup file and when it didnt match the VZW app, it resulted in an error.
a reboot got rid of the issue. i should have know and understood this. there is no way a vzw backup on an att phone would cause google software issues.
this thread is comical. op should look up the definition of bloat. disabling android core system apps does not constitute removing "bloat". thought this would be informative, instead it was entertaining

Root or not?

So guys i know the possibilities of android phones after rooting as my previous phone was Sony Z2...but i am not really sure about rooting s8 :?
If i root it i will miss all updates right? So isn't it better to leave it as it is cause it's just the best smartphone now anyway...
I ran out of reasons to root a long time ago. As Android started getting more polished and allowing more customization I didnt see the need for it. The only thing I'd use it for now is for boot screens and bloat removal.
Root Explorer
Adway
Tasker
Greenify
Titanium Backup
Lucky Patcher
Uninstall System Apps
and others....
These are just some of the reasons to root, if you're looking for full control of you system, then root! If you're not going to customize the system, then don't root.
Don't promote Lucky Patcher, it goes against the non piracy stand of this site.
To the topic, the only reason I rooted in the past was titanium backup, but nowadays most apps I use sync data. I think you can do a lot more today not rooting than in the past but that's just my opinion.
Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk
Agree with the lucky patch part. It can be "educational" but the piracy element is real and what makes it stand out. The real question is involving the new installation method for Magisk that was released on 9/9/2017 and if it's safe to use with a locked bootloader.
Xposed and YouTube adaway is about all I'd need it for. But it's too unstable right now plus the 80% battery thing is just stupid
I'm waiting for people fixing 80% battery issue, + lineageOS. The thing I always do after rooting is installing Adaway, but not these days.
there are adblockers that can be used via adb, system apps can be removed by adb, or can be disabled by package disablers, no real reason except to flash custom ROMs, which can be fun but gets tedious, I've rooted everyone of my previous phones (those that could be rooted), my S8 is the first that I have not and doubt I will.
I'm happy with stock, but since Samsung still don't have an option to skip music tracks with the screen off by long pressing the volume button, I'm forced to root...every...time :/
I just don't get it. With large modern devices, who wants to have to take their phone out to skip tracks. I use Poweramp, and I'm forced to remove my phone, double tap the lock screen, swipe to the player screen and then skip next track. I thought this was 2017...
The apps to do it are fickle at best. Plus, I shouldn't have to use crappy headphones with an inline remote.
waste of precious time,
battery drain, some app not working, can't find apps in goggle store.
security of device,
no samsung pay,
playing cat and mouse with Goggle
I'm not promoting Lucky Patcher, besides your actions with the app is entirely up to you. Lucky Patcher is like Kodi, they're not responsible for the actions end users take. So don't blame the software itself. Also, you can Backup or Restore of Apps and Data, Covert any app into System app and Move Apps to SD Card as well.

Rooting an S8 can cause many problems like :-
1.Warranty Loss
2.Problems with knox supported apps like (Samsung pay, pass, secure folder etc)
3.Loosing confidence on that security element that prompts us to save our valuable credit and debit card details etc.
I mainly root for ad blocking and theming. But nowadays non root alternatives are available for both.
Choice is yours.Good Luck

- Root Explorer
Why do users need to browse restricted system files? If it is to delete a file, etc, so they can disable a preinstalled app it can be done with the existing UI without root.
- Tasker
Root features are to provide extra flexibility over what Samsung offers on ringer vibrate, automatic reboot of the phone, making changes to the CPU settings, and automated change of the network to airplane mode. So for most users, there is a question of is there really a need to do more than what Samsung is offering in their own firmware when it comes to their must haves for use of the phone?
- Greenify
From what I gathered, they have a workaround for non-root devices to get the needed permissions using ADB. See their blog post "How to grant permissions required by some features on non-root device?"
- Titanium Backup
Android starting with version 4.0 has a built-in app and data backup and restore feature without the need for root or Titanium Backup. See http://projects.g.ydftech.com/home-1/androidbackup
- Lucky Patcher
Removing ads is the only feature that needs root and may be worth it. But, what are ads? A way to help a developer get paid while giving you free access to their work, do you really want to cut their only hope of revenue?
Modify app permissions, which is no longer needed as the latest versions of android give you the flexibility
Backup and restore apps, see the comment for Titanium Backup
Bypass premium applications license verification, that is basically committing illegal act of stealing something without paying for it, and although I don't endorse it in many cases there are apk's out there that have been "patched", so there is no need to root the phone in order to do this.
- Uninstall System Apps
You can just disable them. The device has many GB of space, are those system apps really taking too much space?

I'd recommend using BxActions its a very awesome app and there's no hassle onto using it.
DeX without the official adapter is the main reason I rooted, and it seems to be almost fully working with a patched kernel.
some cool mods may tempt you as well, I installed both the Stereo Sound Mod and custom video/jpeg bitrates.
I just like Rooting because its cool and thats what the cool people do, and so I can act superior (like someone gives a ****).. /s
Seriously though I don't care that much about Rooting because I don't feel its all the necessary. What I would like is an unlocked bootloader so we could make ROMs and flash stuff. I think the idea of Rooting is pretty old school we used to do it before you could do things like disable bloatware. Also since we can use apps like Adhell 2 its just one less reason to root. My biggest reason not to Root is I like Samsung Pay too much.
Does anyone know a safe way to root s8 ? (Without deleting information)
I mean, without opening the boot loader
Thank you for helping me .
Rooted every phone since the OG Droid. So far this is the only phone I haven't felt the need to root. But this is also the closest thing to the perfect phone I have owned.
I haven't really found a reason not to. I still need features that need root to run.

Google Play auto updates don't seem to work after package disabler...

I recently discovered the joys of package disabling, using this XDA article as a guide and it has been 99% amazing. My battery life went up significantly and the bixby button is disabled without having to use some third party app.
However, the 1% that isn't amazing is the fact that google play seems to no longer be able to automatically update my apps. I can go in and manually update them, and it still shows a big list of which apps are available to update, and auto update is still turned on... but I suspect something I disabled may be not allowing google play to actually run the updates. Any thoughts?
I was reading another thread about which things people have disabled, and someone mentioned the settings menu loads slower... another person knew right away that it was two services that you had to re-enable, so I figured maybe someone just kinda knew what to do without having to go through each service/package and guess...

I ran basically the same huge long list that guy exported in the thread about disabling Bixby / etc.. and I didn't experience this issue. You may have to play the 50/50 game until you isolate which service is responsible
