N7 LTE and calling. Yes😀 - Nexus 7 (2013) General

So I remember T-Mobile rolled out WiFi calling. I downloaded Google hangouts dialer and tried the calling feature.
First I connected through WiFi and ran the app and made a call to a ATT cell phone. And it worked. So then I turned off WiFi and turned on mobile data. Made another call to same ATT cell phone and boom! N7 T-Mobile walking talking phone.
I'm stock rooted, google hangouts dialer. I don't know if this works on ATT or Verizon because I stunt have a Sim. My call went over 'H'. I have no LTE connection in my room.
Anyone else want to confirm. But sweet

It should work regardless of carrier as long as you have access to the Internet.

I thought it wasn't supposed to, because Google locked it down. You couldn't do this before. I don't believe this worked until volte started to roll out. And with Google integrating this into hangouts

It started working when the dialer came out. Doesn't have anything to do with the rollout of volte on some carriers.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk

The dialer included with hangouts is just a way to connect to gvoice with voip, which has been possible for years with 3rd party clients such as Grooveip
All it does is simplify the process of setting up, the concept is the same.
Literally any device that can connect to the internet can do hangout calls in the same manner, as there's no carriers involved at all. As far as they're concerned it's merely data.
What they did do was disable the method some clients, such as grooveip, used to connect to gvoice.
But there are multiple methods, existing solutions such as obitalk can still connect to gvoice via voip.

I've had this problem quite a lot recently. Oddly, it seems to only affect messages coming from one or two certain people on a given day.
Yes, me too. Completely random.

This could be caused by incorrect APN (Access Point Names) setting. Happened to me in the past.
These can be configured via Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
Google APN Settings for (Your Service Provider) and check to see if you have the right setup.
Do you use Google Voice? Google Voice has Sprint integration so if you selected that GV will intercept your incoming text messages

Send text to nexus 7

I've seen a lot of apps that will send your phone text to a tablet but it seems like none are compatible yet anyone know of any that are yet ?

Tablet talk works great.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I use "What's App." Works great across different platforms (and especially for international texts - no fees!). It's like an instant messaging service, but it piggybacks your cell network if you're tethering.
EDIT: sorry, I forgot to mention that it only works if the other person has What's App, too.
I use Google voice, only thing that you don't get are the picture msgs.

Try HeyWire Link ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5tZWRpYWZyaWVuZHMuY2hpbWUiXQ.. ) in google play it is free and it works. Takes a few min's to setup and a little thinking because of the way the help files are, well there english is not to good lets put it that way. But it works very well. Hope that helps
Yes, I also use the fantastic product: 'Tablet Talk'

I just use Google Voice which is linked to my Sprint account. Only downside is that you can't receive MMS.

Yes. Tablet talk syncs to your phone via WiFi or Bluetooth..so technically its using your cell service as an "extension" to your cell phone. I love it.

Google Voice, however like someone mentioned they haven't incorporated MMS into it yet.
Will try Tablet Talk tho.
I've used Tablet Talk for a couple weeks now and it hasn't really worked for me. I'm thinking that it's probably because of my phone. Does anyone else have a Galaxy S II/N7 pairing that works?

Be a bit more specific For example..are you using a 3rd party SMS program such as GoSms or Handicent? If so..read the FAQ for tablet talk.
Whats the issue that you're having?
Seriously amazed by tablet talk, my galaxy s3,suffered the sudden death syndrome, so was in a fickle, bought a cheap Huawei blaze and it's tethered to my phone and having to use tablet talk for texts and calls is amazing. Those using tablet talk for Blue tooth calling how clear is it.

If I'm not mistaken, In tablet talk you have to be connected by blue tooth or on the SAME wifi. An app called CLOUD SMS doesn't require that you be on the same wifi, I can receive text on my n7 even if I'm connected to wifi and my phone is not.

You can do that yes. As far as I am aware the only limitation tablet talk has is that incoming audio cannot be fed through the tablet (limitation in android itself)
You can still use the mic to chat but you either need to have a headset connected to your phone (wired/bt) or you can activate your phones speakerphone through tablet talk.

Tablet Talk works great, Real shame can't use the built in mic/speaker, would use it for calls in that case.

That's Ok as I tend to take my Sony Live Key out with me for Google Music and just in case I need to make and receive a phone call, but texting seems a pain on the 4.2" screen of my Sony Xperia Arc S compared to the larger screen of the N7.
The Dev has done a good visual job with Tablet Talk as the Dialer and Messaging look like the ICS/JB Stock ones and the quick reply popup is so convenient.

I use grooveip for calls. Of course, you have to have a data connection. The n7 wifi cannot make cellular calls, it does not have the hardware. The n7 3g cannot make cell calls yet either, but dev work is progressing.

Nexus 4 wifi calling

I bought a nexus 4 from Google it does not have wifi calling. I use the pre paid minutes plan with t-mobile.
Is it possible to get wifi calling enabled on this phone somehow?
I don't have much of a tower signal at my house in the country.
Thanks

Have you tried talking to Tmobile? I seem to remember someone saying they had a device that plugged into your router but provided a cell signal. I could be wrong though.

Other nexus devices
With the news that the S4 and HTC One will be sporting Google's vanilla OS, I guess neither of those will be able to use wifi calling either. Seems like a waste.
One would think that t-mobile would want to correct this to gain customers. I do get a strong ATT signal at my home in the country so if I go that route t-mobile not only loose my business but also of my daughter and granddaughter.
Oh with our unlocked phone's it's easy to switch.

On a prepaid plan, tmobiles WiFi calling uses minutes. Get the Vonage app for free outgoing calls over data.

But no incoming calls which I need. T-mobile goes both ways. There are any number of apps that do out going calls via wifi but not in coming.

Try looking at GrooveIP on the Play store. That's what I'm using and it works. It basically uses your Google Voice account and forwards the calls via data (wifi).
If that doesn't work try Talkatone(?) I've never even looked into that app, but it's just a name I hear mentioned in threads like this. Actually, I think it uses Google Voice to forward the calls too so that might not be a good solution if GrooveIP doesn't work. Anyway, hope you find a solution that works.
For those of you who want the best quality out of your $30 smartphone plan, I made a 12-part video tutorial showing how to do it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9DzN1Pu6-Q&list=PLE_de-PBwrTSUMm-Y48aiOOHt_YyT69t0
It's much better than GrooveIP, Vonage, Talkatone, Pbxes.org, and everything else, especially those with the "one big green button" solution.
This method gives you HD Voice (G.722 codec), bettery battery life, and much better options for logging/blocking/recording. You can even set up hold music. Yup, I said hold music.
It used to be difficult to set up until I made it as clear as the nose on your face in the video tutorial (with actual commentary instead of techno music).
Spread the word if you do it and it works out for you. I believe everyone deserves high quality and limitless VoIP WiFi/4g calling.
