USA Importers - Xperia Z3 General

For all of you planning on ordering the Z3 to use in the United States, I'm curious as to where you're ordering from. I've never imported a phone before since I was raised on the contract model so this might be helpful.
What site are you ordering from?
What color are you getting?
Do you know the model #?
What carrier (AT&T/T-Mobile)?
My plan is to order the international D6603 model and use it on T-Mobile. I'm seriously caught between white or green, leaning toward green. I'm looking at Handtec for ordering at around 700 USD, Clove doesn't seem to have the green one but they have a nice bundle deal (£40 free accessories).
Expansys-USA has no pricing yet. Between that and Handtec which site do you think would be better for me to order from?
How about the rest of you?
Edit: I've since changed my mind about the green because the front is black. I'm getting a white one, and I'll probably wait until it shows up on Sony's US site.

Ordering from Clove and a copper one. TMo.

Probably get one off Ebay when someone has one in hand. D6653 not offered at any UK pre-order sellers yet and I'll need this model for AT&T. Black.

why would you need the D6653 for att? i think the d6603 will work fine with att LTE and 3g

What LTE bands do you think it is missing? Band 30? Wouldn't the D6603 have the same LTE bands as the D6503? If I recall, the D6503 had everything the D6543 had and more.

Right, that's why I'm confused. The D6603 seems to be missing only Band 30, which the D6503 was also missing, and I've had no issues on AT&T with the D6503. I suppose if the D6653 has Band 30 as well, it would be better, depending on what else it gives up. I"ll take a look at the white paper on it.

And after looking at the white paper for D6653, I'm even more confused, because it has fewer bands than the D6603 and adds only Band 28, which AT&T does not use. None of the Z3 devices has Band 30, so it seems that the D6603 is ideal unless I'm missing something.

trust gsmarena with a grain of salt. Sony's white paper site is more reliable of course. Wish every manufacture would do the same

Agreed, thank you

The main lte band that AT&T uses is the 700 one. The d6503 is listed as using that band... It will be fine!

D6603, correct?

Yup. all you need is Band 4 & 17

I ordered a Sony xperia z3 from handtec its believed they will carry the D6603 which has the most LTE bands. The D6653 is a varient that has fewer LTE bands and won't work for me since I work on at&t LTE.

If you're getting it for T-Mobile you'll want D6603. That's the international version with all bands except Band 12 - which is specific to the T-Mo D6616. Check the white paper for the device and you can compare the bands supported by each.

Thanks. I just reordered. I was going by gsmarena instead if the white sheet. Makes sense to get D6603, even over the D6616 cuz I do a fair bit of vacationing all over the world and would like my LTE, lol. Hope I'm not missing too much without band 12. Although if its similar to the D6503 then I'll do fine.

This should give you an idea of where TMO plans to roll out band 12 LTE.

Xperia Z C6602 LTE band IV AWS possibility

We know that the C6603 has LTE, while C6602 doesn't
http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_z-5204.php
Take a look at the FCC website.
-- evidence that FCC website shows a C6602
From the External Photos.pdf, first page, bottom photo, the photo says "C6602"
From the Label.pdf, it says "C6602"
-- evidence that LTE could be possible
From the Internal Photos.pdf, page 4, bottom photo, the Qualcomm chip says "MDM9215M", which supports LTE FDD/TDD CAT3, SVLTE-DB and it is the same modem that the Nexus 4 had. Nexus 4 had that LTE hack for band 4 AWS
On page 3, bottom pic, on the chip near the bottom right, there is an Avago A5004, which is a power amplifier supporting part of LTE band IV(1700mhz portion)
Above the A5004 chip, there is the Qualcomm WTR1605L transceiver(also present in Nexus 4), which supports all LTE frequencies in the world right now
Recap, chips listed supports LTE band IV:
Modem: Qualcomm MDM9215M
Power Amplifier: Avago A5004 (only 1700mhz, not 2100mhz for LTE band IV downlink)
Frequency Transceiver: Qualcomm WTR1605L
Antenna:? can't tell from FCC photo
Now, we don't know if the above chips have their full functionality and active, or whether there is a power amplifier for the 2100mhz downlink, or whether the antenna supports it, or whether we can find a software mod to enable LTE Band IV signal. Can't find a full Xperia Z teardown, and the FCC pictures aren't detailed enough

The white paper on that Sony site you linked for c6602 doesn't say anything about lte
http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/c6602/whitepaper_EN_c6602_xperia_z.pdf
Most likely they were mixing up the c6603 and c6602 version
Also, the c6602 only has the band IV LTE chip in the photo.. Will Sony actually create a c6602 v2 with band 1, 3,5,...) LTE, or the c6602 in the fcc filing had a dormant second modem chip for band 1,3,5...LTe
Edit: actually, I'm not sure which exact LTE bands the 9215m supports... Could also be bands 1,3,5..
according to the C6603 white paper, it also uses the 9215M chip... so i wonder what Sony left out in the C6602...

I really hope someone can find a hack for LTE much like the Nexus 4. After all, they use the same chips.
Hey uhm... Have you also flashed the baseband other than the firmware? Amplifier is the antenna and modem is the same it should hardware wise be capable of recieving LTE signals once radio firmware is compatible.
Judging by your explanation seems like your current baseband doesn't support LTE yet since as you said it returns back to HSPA/GSM when switched to LTE in which only means it's a software block.
Very interesting! This would be phenomenal.
even though I already own c6603 version.
Huge news!
We might not have the baseband to support the LTE now, but I'm hoping when T-Mobile USA start selling the XZ we can. Hopefully we can use the baseband from the T-Mobile branded XZ to enable LTE on the C6602. *crossesfingers*
Now that t-mobile is selling the Xperia Z hopefully we can try to enable the LTE on the AWS band
The specs on the sony site for the Xperia Z model C6606PL are:
UMTS HSPA+ 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz
GSM GPRS/EDGE 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
LTE Band IV
I hope this model has the same parts as the C6602

On my real C6603, working bands are GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS_BC1, UMTS_BC5, UMTS_BC8, LTE_BC1, LTE_BC3, LTE_BC5, LTE_BC7, LTE_BC8, LTE_BC20.
So apparently, cross flashing does not change working bands. Perhaps the supported frequency bands are stored in the Trim Area (TA), just like SIM locks.

SM-G900M (Vodafone) in USA?

I looked at some specs somewhere for the Vodafone S5, and it apparently supports all of AT&T's LTE bands. If this is in fact true, I'd much rather buy one of these because they allow you to unlock it. Does anyone know where I could get one of these for the US/verify the specs? AT&T uses 2, 4, and 17 for LTE (2G/3G are the same throughout all models).
Thanks!

The real question is.. does it support carrier aggregation?
AT&T said that they aren't using carrier aggregation to improve speeds or bandwidth for consumers, but to "more efficiently utilize the spectrum and meet users' data demands as more users utilize LTE".
They specifically stated that advertised download and upload speeds won't change.
Because of this, I honestly don't mind if there isn't carrier aggregation on the Canadian models.

So i am considering buying this phone, but I have only 1 concern about lte on this website: http://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_230088.html it says that 4f bands are only:FDD-LTE 1800/2100/2600MHz, so will it work in Canada?? I have ordered the international version and I did some research and basically the bands are dependant on what your network is broadcasting on. If you google what frequency/band your provider is broadcasting on then cross-reference it to the ones supported then you'll know if it works.
- Peace BreadC
Carriers use more than 1 band cause the don't have full coverage with only 1 so sometimes you should have LTE coverage and sometimes don't , I'm in the same dilemma the phone is really good but not having the LTE bands used in US is a deal breaker, I'm waiting to October cause its supposed to be officially released to the US and maybe they'll release a revised version with the LTE bands used here.

Can you check it? Three use 1800 band and have launched their 800 band recently(not wide spread at the moment) which would improve their indoor 4G coverage, EE already use 800/1800 bands,

Oh, I thought I've read somewhere that the International version will sacrifice some of the TDD-LTE bands for more of the FDD-LTE bands, so besides the OS difference I also expected different bands support.

Will UK Moto X Style work in North America?

I'm planning on getting a preorder in with Clove UK...
Looking at the frequencies and bands listed it looks like it will work in North America on AT&T and in Canada ...can anyone confirm that the US model is EXACT same as UK ?
Pure Edition bands (US version):
Networks
LTE cat. 6 capable
WCDMA
CDMA
EV-DO
GSM/EDGE
Bands
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (850, 900, 1700 (AWS),1900, 2100 MHz)
CDMA (800, 850, 1900 MHz)
4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26, 38, 41)
Style bands (Int. version):
Networks
LTE cat. 6 (up to 300 Mbps)
WCDMA
CDMA
EV-DO
TD-SCDMA
GSM/EDGE
Bands
UMTS GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)
UMTS/HSPA+ (800, 850, 900, 1700, 1900, 2100 MHz)
4G LTE (B1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 20, 25, 28, 40, 41)
Strange. The international version says it will work for CDMA. But no CDMA bands are listed. It looks like it will work with AT&T and T-mobile. But its hard to say about software updates. I'd just wait for the U.S. Version. Since it will probably be announced in the next day or so. Since there is just pre orders for the international version with no release day. And it might even release later.
I think I'll pass on Clove..with exchange rate works out $600 CDN !!
Why would you do that.. itll be available with Moto Maker tomorrow?

I wouldnt mind shipping it to you from the UK but the exchange rate makes it very expensive.

What carriers will the US996 V20 work with?

Both Newegg and BH Photo will be selling the unlocked US Cellular V20 Model US996. It says it will work on all carriers since the LG site shows the supported bands.
http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-US996-Unlocked-v20-titan
So I guess there should be no problem with it working with Verizon, AT&T , Tmobile, and Sprint?
Also holding out hopes that it can be bootloader unlocked and rooted.
It is missing bands for both Sprint and Verizon...and odds are is not whitelisted to work on Sprint.

B&H has a pretty good guide and explanation of this. In either case CDMA carriers are always a pain. May be able to call your carrier and verify. But chances are they'll be lost and confused with such a new model. Or you'll get lucky...

So true. So far with that guide and phone description any phone I ordered did work on VZW from BH including the axon 7. Otherwise, just return it. Keeping crossed.

If you look at the FCC for the Verizon VS995:
https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=ft0NWPNMdRRxvx6HqFyc8Q%3D%3D&fcc_id=ZNFVS995
Click on RF Exposure Info 1 and open the PDF.
The first page lists these of the V20 models:
VS995, US996, H990T (the VS995 is the Verizon model and the US996 is the Unlocked).
Then look at the supported bands:
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850 824.20-848.80
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 1900 1850.20-1909.80
UMTS 850 826.40-846.60
UMTS 1750 1712.4 - 1752
UMTS 1900 1852.4 - 1907
Cell. CDMA/EVDO 824.70 - 848.3 (This is Verizon CDMA voice and 3G)
PCS CDMA/EVDO 1851.25 - 1908.75 (This is Verizon CDMA voice and 3G)
LTE Band 12 699.7 - 715.3
LTE Band 17 706.5 - 713.5
LTE Band 13 779.5 - 784.5 (Verizon LTE Band)
LTE Band 5 (Cell) 824.7 - 848.3
LTE Band 66 (AWS) 1710.7 - 1779.3
LTE Band 4 (AWS) 1710.7 - 1754.3 (Verizon LTE Band)
LTE Band 25 (PCS) 1850.7 - 1914.3
LTE Band 2 (PCS) 1850.7 - 1909.3 (Verizon LTE Band)
So to me, this shows both the VS995 (Verizon) and US996 Unlocked has all of the same bands.
But even if a person (on Verizon) decided to go with the US996 and gets it to work just fine on Verizon, there is no grantee that VoLTE or WiFi Calling will be supported (because of the different software/firmware), and it's up in the air as to when firmware updates will be pushed out.
Compared to the ATT H910 frequency spec the US996 is missing UMTS 2100, LTE 29 & LTE 30. Is that going to cause issues should one by the US996 for use on ATT? I have no idea what those frequencies represent.

Thanks for the link. Looks like it will be alright. Will advise if / when it arrives

So the US996 model should work fine with the Verizon bands, but not Fi or Sprint because it is missing a block in the CDMA 800 that Sprint uses. But would work on Fi/Tmobile.
Has anybody officially tried this variant on Verizon yet? I really want to pick up a V20. I'm stuck with Verizon, and I'm not looking forward to their bs locked down bootloader.

The US996 model isn't out until early-to-mid November, so still about 3 weeks out.
It supports all the Verizon bands for CDMA voice and LTE 2/4/13 for data.
The only questions is if Verizon will have any issues activating it in their system, and if VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling works. No way to really know until once it's release.
At this point, I plan on waiting to see if the US996 fully works on Verizon without any issues, and hope the bootloader can be unlocked and eventually rooted. I have only had phones that can been rooted, so hate to give that up.
US Unlocked bariant LG V20
I pre ordered the US unlocked VG 20 on B and H for $799 shipped. Included free tablet also. Looks like a good deal. I bought the S7 Edge US variant from them a month ago and use on T-Mobile with no problems at all. Suppose to ship around Nov 01.
yeah, but silver is the end of the month after the headphone deal expires. so why do people who want silver get screwed bc LG can't correctly stock the phone?

Well it looks like it does. I bought the North America version of the S7 Edge and I been using it on T-mobile for a while with no problems at all. It even takes the T-Mobile updates. I'm hoping this one does too. B and H says it does, good enough for me. Guess I'll find out when I get it. It shows the bands in the ad, check them out.
Cellular Network
2.5G (EDGE, GSM/GPRS) MHz: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
2G (CDMA/IS-95) MHz: 800, 1900
3.5G (HSPA+, UMTS/WCDMA) MHz: 850, 900, 1900, 2100
3G (CDMA2000, EV-DO) MHz: 800, 1900
4G (LTE) Bands: 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 12, 13, 17, 20, 25
US Cellular now has their V20 listed for preorder for $699.
Their web site does not list model number, but I believe it is the same US996 that BH and Newegg are selling for $799.
Is there anyway to verify this, and if it is the same, be able to order it from US Cellular without being a customer?
https://www.uscellular.com/devices/phones/LG-V20.html?productId=prod7890145&customer-type=nc&skuType=prepaid&transactionType=addLine&filters={%22manufacturer%22:[%22LG%22]}
The LG site has both the US Cellular US996 and US996 Unlocked listed, so it makes me wonder that even thohgh they both have the same model number, the US Cellular ones is not unlocked and the other one is.

So do we think the US996 will work with Project-Fi (unofficially)?

LOL. I called Verizon two weeks ago and they were totally lost. The store rep was clueless. When I talked to tech support they said "oh no problem" (even though I don't think they had any clue about the US996). I'm glad to hear that the B&H guide has worked out in the past. I'm worried that they will try to charge a 15% restock fee if I can't get it up on Verizon.
