Screen uniformity and issues - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Yo.
I'm still wondering if my S5 screens is as good as it's supposed to be. I have 2 major concerns, screen uniformity and purple trails.
I come from an ancient S1, and nothing of this happened. I have attached a single color pic that shows clearly how screen have a soft gradient from top to bottom on my phone. When I put basic colors (RGBYWB from test modes or apps) nothing of this is apparent at all, and screen looks gorgeus, but this color and some other grays show what I'm talking about. I would be grateful if you load the pic in full screen mode and tell your impressions. Offscreen shots would be welcome too.
Also, about the purple trails when moving on screen pitch blacks, it affects every screen or only some unfortunate ones? S1 never show anything similar. Max bright reduces it, but nor completly.
Greetings.

[Q] bought a Galaxy SII, is this normal on the amoled?

hey guys so i have this phone and i like it, not awsome all the way, but its great so far, astonish performance and an OK camera, anyways heres what ive noticed and i dont wanna send it back before im sure its a problem:
-When i view its screen turned on from different angles the color hue slightly changes a bit to blue, this is most noticeable in bright images with alot of white level for example, is such thing normal?
Also is there any particular thing i should look for to know if its working properly or not? ive heard alot of ppl had problems with the screen, what are the steps that i need to take to check if mine has or does not have the same problems.
Thanks in advance!
ill be getting my S2 tomorrow but from what i understand this is normal on the phones ive owned in the past
all the screen issues i heard on the forums are
black spots
and yellow color from the left side of the screen

True ... when screen are turned and seen from different angles, the color hue slightly changes a bit to blue and that's normal.
But on my SGS2 no yellowish colors or black spots.
OP, the slight bluish hint is normal.
Also normal is some moderate banding on plain gray background.
Also normal is moderate yellowish left side. To check how severely your screen is effected, switch OFF orientation sensor, display a full screen gray image on about 25-50% brightness, look at it in portrait orientation, than flip the phone 180 degrees, so it is upside down. Do a few flips, you will notice the difference in colors on the left and the right sides. Most people do not see it by just looking at the image, they need a real precise side by side comparison like what I just described.
All these issues in moderation are normal for Amoled. What is not normal is dead pixels or damaged screens underneath the glass, but these issues are rare.
Pity you dont have a search button .

[Q] Screen colors uneven?? Normal?

Hi all,
I know there is alot of discussions surrounding yellow tinting and yellow colors , or uneven screens on S2 , S3.
But I haven't seen much of it talked about for the S4.
My S4 has slightly darker colors on the top of the phone. The difference is quite visible on a white background, and very visible on a grey background.
Here some photos showing the issue:
From the naked eye the differences are not as great as shown on the photos. however it is there. sometimes its darker sometimes its not so much darker. but visible and very evident that the screen colors are not even.
Is there any problem with this? Do I need to take it to Samsung for repair?
When I'm using google for example the top of the screen is like bluish....and the other half of the screen is white.
Because I haven't seen many discuss about this issue, I'm wondering whether its just mine?
You have a defective screen.
Take it back for repair or replacement

Screen tint and viewing angles questions and opinions please

Ok well I would like to get peoples feedback and opinions on their screens.
My story. Broke my GNote II instead of paying to replace LCD decided to upgrade with my carrier.
First Note 3 I bought was bright with nice whites and great viewing angles. But it has the dreaded pinkinsh purple screen tint issue in the lower 3rd of the screen more so on the right side. This is subtle and is less evident in brighter conditions or higher screen brightness. At low brightness and in dark environments it is particularly visible on white and grey backgrounds. Went to store to exchange and they refused given they could not see the defect. I came online here searched around and it seems this has been an issue on the GS4 and people have mentioned it on the new Note 3.
Convinced my carrier to send me a replacement and I will return the original to them. Well got the replacement 3-4 days ago. The unit seems quite different. First off the screen is overall a bit more yellow at face on viewing angles and perhaps a hair less bright at similar settings though hard to tell. The bottom is not color shifted puple. The screen color is more homogenous. However the viewing angles are completely different. Here while the brightness stays goo dlike the first when angling the screen, the colors shift to a more aqua color with minor angle variation. (guessing 20-30*) whereas the original unit has virtually no color shift at almost 90*.
I probably have to send back a unit in the coming day or 2 and make a final decision. In theory I could try to ask for a third model, however it was with a lot of difficulty and threats to leave my carrier that they relented in the first replacement. SO I likely will have to stick with one of these or return both and use my somewhat broken note 2 and wait for something else.
I am wondering if any of you out here have similar pink/purple tint issues at one end of your screen. Or if you have issues with significant white color shift when angling your screen more than 30* in either portrait or landscape. Also if good or bad can you check build date on your phone (should be under battery). FInally did you or will you replace it? Was replacement better or worse?
Also if in my shoes would you go for the better looking screen with the pink issue or the more consistent looking screen that is a bit more blue yellow.
Thanks!
lots of postings about this, i even made a thread regarding this:

I know you did and I posted some long posts there and the thread kind of died.
I have some specific questions here as well as asking what I should do in my case.
I had a note 2 and remember there being perseus kernel and with STweaks one could shift color etc and make it how you like. I am thinking going with the more uniform color model as I am sure the slight yellow tint can be corrected and the blue tint on viewing angles is no worse than my note 2 looking back so I will get used to it I imagine. That said the first screen really has great screen but the purplish pink right bottom corner bugs me on white and grey screens ( not noticeable on high brightness though) and often reading on websites etc indoors I notice it enough that it bugs me.....
So for anyone who cares here is an update on my plan. The more uniform note 3 is more yellow/green tinted whites compared to the other one that is whiter/redder. That said if I use one of these screen filter style apps that exist in the play store, I can modify the overall screen into however I like.
Downside is that it means a persistently running app to do it with whatever effect on screen longevity and battery.
Now on my Note 2 which is also yellower, I was running perseus kernel and the s tweaks app and was able at the kernel level to modify the color to get better whites. I imagine it is only a matter of time before someone can do that for our note 3. I can handle the viewing angle color shift as the device is in my hand and not on a table when i use it where it might be off angle viewing by a large amount. And even then, the tinting of white has a bluish shift and now worse than a yellowing shift my wifes iphone has off angle or my note 2 did.
Would love tohear from others and what their screens are like and or developers who might have the means of modifying color at kernel level the way Andreilux did on the note 2
I checked almost 10 note 3s bkack n white as well..and found only 1 set.it has no yellow tint and no gray lining.

You checked 13 notes and 12 of them were either yellow tint or what gray lining issue?
How did you manage to check so many.
Can you check the following. Look at the phone screen face on the tilt either up down or side to side about 30 degrees and tell me if the white on the screen turns bluish.
One of my phones does this and has the yellower whites. The other does not and has better whites but has some purplish discoloration in the lower right part of the phone.
Any one here try a new kernel from the android development sections?
Some of them talk about being able to modify screen color. Am wondering if this can be a fix for my issues.

[Q] Stretchy blacks in low brightness

When in low brightness the blacks get jelly like stretching effect when in motion. I notice this all the time, with text and whatever. Most noticeable if a picture has something dark surrounded by bright area, scroll up and down and see the block stretch like rubber. What's up with that and why haven't I seen it mentioned in any review.. Very obvious artifact.

I have this same problem. Anyone have any idea what it can be?
You're seeing the pixels turn on and off as they turn off for black. All amoleds do it. Usually more noticeable when the brightness is lowered and it is white on black.
There is no pure black color. Black pixels aren't off. Later I will try make some photos to show this. I don't have this in S5, where black and gray colors are perfect and looks like in every amoled LCD's should be.
on older devices(saw this with the note 2) black would be near-black(leaving a slight grey/greenish glow only visible in complete darkness)
with the note 4(don't know about S4/5 and note 3) they decided to enable "true" black, allowing the pixels to turn off completely when displaying black.
switching on/off takes a tiny bit longer than changing intensity, which causes visible ghosting.
this is only noticeable in very specific circumstances, so most people never see it happen.
Black color looks it like with sephia filter. I don't know what it is. I changed ROM-s and kernels, still this same. On S5 black color is beautiful, Note 4 looks terible, especially in dark rooms. See atachments.

Blue tint on screen (Amazon ver.G5plus)

Trying to be sure if it's either my device faulty or it's typical. As long as there aren't a lot of whites on the screen, it looks good.
Open Facebook or Chrome browser - or just anything with white background or lots of whites, and there is this blue tint over the white.
On max brightness it's not as bad, but if I turn on adaptive display, the darker the screen is, the more blue the whites are to a point, it's uncomfortable to read anything. Here is are some pictures what I'm talking about.
First one is a bit unfair, compared to Galaxy S7 Edge, but just look at the G5plus on the right. It's way blueish.
On the next picture, it's compared to a cheap Chinese phone (Nuu 3G) with a 720p display. Now, it may not show how blue it gets, because the brightness is on max to take the picture, but trust me, when it's halfway bright or less, it gets a lot worse with the blue.
Anyone else have this issue? Or is this the normal?
what i did was unlock the bootloader then flashed a kcal custom kernel to adjust the color. unfortunately, Moto and Amazon will not unlock Amazon edition bootloaders so that is not an option for you.
