[Q] Baseband, Modem, CSC... - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
On my Galaxy S5 (900F), this is what's installed at the moment:

Quick questions:
Is the Baseband the MODEM?
How do I update only this? Is it possible to take it off a ROM?
I want to upgrade it to NG2.
thnx

Baseband is the radio (aka modem) version. The radio can be separated from a full firmware package and in the past, some people have done this, preferring to change or update only the radio. Android 4.3 made flashing more restrictive and the bootloader will now prevent doing this for most carriers now. So if you wish to update the radio you will likely have to flash a full update or stock firmware package.

- Yes. Baseband, Radio, Modem and CP (Cellular Processor) are referred to the same thing.
- To update only the baseband: Download the appropriate firmware, extract and get 2 files: modem.bin + NON-HLOS.bin. For detailed instruction how to update the baseband, please refer to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...900tuvudnf4-extracted-stock-firmware-t2834398
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help

[ASK]Help My IMEI is GONE T_T

After flash odin My Imei gone :'( please help me to fix IMEI :'(
did you flash all three parts?
pda
modem
and csc
Its very unlikely you would loose imei by flashing stock rom via odin - that normally happens when you flash a custom rom that is using a different baseband and ril to your own
see my firmware thread and flash all three parts as per instructions

NK1 Modem for Korean Note 3 (N900L)

Hi guys
I have a korean Note 3 (N900L) running on Omega v23 custom rom developed for N9005 version. When i initially got this phone it has NK1 baseband version which was a bit weak in receiving signals so i decided to try out other modems. After a very brief research, I found NG1 modem and flashed it but the result was even worse than the previous modem. Now I cant even get messages and make phone calls. Although my signals are full and phone is registered on network but still.
Apart from the signal issue, the rom works just fine so the problem is with the modem file.I downloaded NK1 Modem for N9005 version and tried to flash it via odin but the flashing fails during file writing ( I guess i cant flash some other version baseband ) If anyone can guide me to the right direction or give me a link for NK1 Modem file it would be great. I know NK1 is out there somewhere for this model because I saw it flashed when i get this phone. I just need to find it. any help will be much appreciated.
P.S: I have attached a screen shot for reference

Changing Lollipop CSC

I'm current on the 4.4.2 Stock ROM that came with the phone, using the OPS CSC as that is my carrier.
The ROM is rooted, I have changed the recovery and kernel and am using XPosed for any customizations.
I wish to download the 5.0 ROM, specificially Albe95's rom: Link here
I wish to know if it possible to change the CSC from that ROM to that of the one that is for my carrier. I have extracted all the files from Albe95's rom and have not found a OPS CSC in there.
How would I go about either moving the CSC from my current ROM to Lollipop one?
One of the options I have found where to extract the rom that you download from Sammobile and flash the appropriate files, yet I do not know what files to flash.
The other option is to simply move the files from my current ROM into the one I downloaded and flashed it (picture below). However, as with the above option I do not know how I would do that since the ROM I currently have is only single CSC while the one that Albe95 provides is multi-csc.
Thanks for the help.

Bringing this back to the front. Still have no idea how to do this and cannot get this to work.

I have a sprint galaxy S4 SPH-L720 MDC modem. rooted with jfltespr rom build characteristics Chameleon.
rom build PDA: L720VPUFNG2 As I can;t get GSM working here in US not matter what I try I ran across this patch
to add these lines http://topusefulsolutions.com/409243/solved-gsm-non-verizon-in-cm11. to fix this problem with not being able to use GSM. This build I rooted with is based on NG2 modem which doesn't have anything in the build

Difference between L720VPUGOD2 and L720VPUFNG2

Hey guys i recently updated my s4 to the new OTA lollipop and it came with so many issues that it basically rendered my phone useless. I looked at the baseband version and it says "L720VPUFNG2," when I looked up the update version on google it comes up as "L720VPUGOD2."
Just curious what the difference is between the two. I am hoping that maybe the OD2 version would solve my issues with the phone. Otherwise I will be downgrading for now.

OD2 is Lollipop, NG2 is KitKat, and because the baseband is still NG2 I am guessing something went wrong with the update. I would Odin the OD2 tar. By the way, DON'T TRY TO DOWNGRADE YOUR FIRMWARE. You can flash older ROMs but do not try to Odin an older version.
