[Q] Everything is small after installation. - SlimRoms Q&A

Hey guys, I'm using a rooted Nexus 5, and I tried flashing the latest (build 7), official slimkat rom onto it, but when the phone boots, everything on the screen is small. I'm talking about the icons, the google search bar, even the navigation buttons are small. One thing that I noticed though is that in the recents menu, everything looks normal. Other than that, everything is just small. I performed a data wipe/ factory reset of the stock rom that I was using before flashing slimkat build 7. Does anyone know why is it so?

Here are the screenshots
I hope this helps.

Use texdroider dpi changer app in play store, u will be able to adjust it

This is default slim behavior, as slim lowers the dpi. Just use the app @mirpuri suggests and change it to 480 if you want it to be like stock.

You can also change the DPI in the build.prop file (using the "build.prop editor" app for instance)

CM10.1 quick settings pulldown disappeared.

Hi all. I hope someone can tell me what's going on.
Rooted nexus 7 and installed CM10.1 unofficial, in mid December. Installed one update a few days later using internal cm update tool.
Everything was great. Then updated to 12/27 and noticed that icons at the bottom won't group and quick settings pulldown (top right pulldown) disappeared.
Since then, I have tried flashing to every version of CM10.1 that is available. Even tried smooth and liquid and fusion versions. None of them give me the quick settings puldown .
The only way I get it back is if I restore stock Nexus 7 image that it came with.
Data, cache and dev link have been wiped multiple times. I even went as far as unrooting back to stock and rooting again. :crying:
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I have the same problem with the latest nightly, clean install.
Make sure you have gapps installed. Quick settings only works when you have a gapps package installed.

Well, I feel a little stupid. That did it. Thank you much!!!
If you don't want to have to worry about remembering to install Gapps just download and update from the Rom itself under quick settings -> About Tablet -> CyanogenMod updates.
But as a safety precaution I also keep recent version of gapps on my internal storage root just in case.

[Q] G2 video problem, HELP!

Hi team,
I am having a problem with video recording. Camera works perfectly, but when I try to record video the camera stays on for a split second then turns off and generates a "video" that won't play b/c it says its not a recognized file format. I rebooted and it worked for a minute then stopped again.
I'm running Nova Launcher prime alternating with GEL sometimes. Have Xposed framework and G2 xposed and GravityBox but haven't made any camera mods with those.
Any advice??
What ROM are you on? It may be a bug or fault due to mods or a custom ROM. I know it's not normal stock ROM behaviour. Try clearing the camera cache and data, else, I'd suggest a back-up and wipe all apps/mods to go back to your ROM's defaults.

Running a stock rom. I reverted back to 4.2.2 rooted then upgraded to stock 4.4.2 so I can't flash roms but still rooted.
It seems to have been isolated only to Nova. When i uninstalled all launchers, cleared data, and went back to GEL (my preferred launcher, I know its weird!!) it seems to work fine now.
I like GEL now that there is an Xposed module and I can customize it how I want and decrease the icon size!!
Sorry for the dumb question, hopefully will keep working. I'm still kind-of a noob!

Not at all, it's weird how that was what it affected. Glad it's resolved!

Lagging on 7.0

Twice in the 48 hours since I installed 7.0 (via the beta programme), I've been typing something using the stock on-screen keyboard (last time was in Chrome) when I've hit horrible lag - like 10 seconds of freezing, then it does something, then more freezing and repeat.
Anyone else?

The BEST advice if you're suffering from lags and strange issues after a major update, you should back up your data and perform a hard reset (Factory Data Reset) preferably through recovery. That will remove any remaining leftover files from the updates like backup files and the like.

hmm then try and wipe your cache and dalvik in recovery and also in the app itself. If clearing everything out maybe Fastbooting factory images when they are uploaded will reset whatever maybe corrupt.

Why does music playback glitch out when turning off the screen?

Every time I turn off the screen while music is playing , there is a short (<1s) glitch/skip/interruption in playback.
I've had this happen on both stock kernel and Veno's kernels which I am currently using, so I think we can safely assume it's not ralated to the kernel.
I tried all the usual like cache/dalvik wipe, cold booting, setting Google Music as a system app, using it as a user app and adding it the the list of protected app in Huawei's power manager, even a factory reset but nothing fixes this.
One weird thing is that for a while, this behavior stopped by itself for a few days only to come back a few days later.
Running stock b170, Meticulus TWRP, Magisk rooted, systemless Xposed, Viper4Android (via Magisk, as a system app)
Any ideas? It's bugging me like crazy.
It's from the audio drivers.

Ok, and is there a fix?
All of the sudden and without me doing anything at all, music playback no longer skips when turning off the screen. What the.
Later edit: the glitch is back.
Just a small shameless bump.
I have the same problem.

Setting my music app to not close in the close battery when locked setting under battery. That I have already tried but it's not working. My music still cuts off when I lock my phone. The widget sometimes disappear from the lock screen too.
my phone is rooted and was wondering if any app out there could prevent this annoying problem from happening...

Still no dark mode in gmail after Android 10 update

Unlocked S10+ received Android 10 update on Dec 25th and almost a week later, no dark mode available in gmail app.
All other google apps have dark mode, s10 set to dark theme.
Have rebooted, force stopped, cleared cache and data, cleared device cache in recovery, enabled force dark mode in developer options, loaded apkmirror latest version, uninstalled update. Nothing adding the theme selection option general settings.
Anyone else have this issue? According to Google all Android 10 devices should have gmail dark mode now.
As a temporary solution you can enable "force Dark Mode" in the Developer settings.

Tried that, doesn't do anything for gmail.
Hm, strange. Try to wipe the cache in the recovery.

Yup, also tried that, no change.
Try the newest version from apkmirror:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...644823-release-android-apk-download/download/
The PlayStore is sometimes strange, because it doesn't offer the latest version.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Tried that as well, I'm running that version, Dec 4th release.
Dec 4th? The latest is Nov 21st.
Do you have this setting in the Options?

Yes, same version. Build date is 11.21, but play store shows dec 4th date.
I do not have that option, no theme option.
It is a bit strange, but when I install the Version from APKmirror, it works. I'm showing it in the Video:

Do you have an other Theme installed, because you have 5 bars in the network-strengh. Default is 4.

No other theme that I know of. Never installed anything, entirely stock.
I did everything in the video you did, still nothing. Did multiple times. So strange.

My last solution would be to uninstall the Gmail-App via ADB and then reinstall the Version from APKmirror.
But I'm not sure if this is possible, because ADB deletes the App for the current user but it keeps the file in the /system-app folder.
In the worst case, you have to factory reset the phone to use gmail again.
There is also a tutorial on XDA: https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
Try Clear cache and clear data from the app. This worked for me.

I may wait a few weeks. I'm wondering if this is a google server side issue not recognizing my phone is recently upgraded to android 10. Factory resetting for dark gmail is a tall order.

I've tried that already. But may try again.
Disable system wide dark mode and then check your Gmail app you should see the setting. It worked for me
Thanks. I deleted some gmail accounts (had several in my gmail app), cleared cache, force stopped, trigger dark mode systemwide off and on, and now it is working.
