Does the Note4 support wireless charging? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haven't seen this covered and if it has been, I'd appreciate anyone posting a link to the article. Does the Note4 support wireless charging or will we have to get one of those stickers as we have to do for the Note 3?
Thanks in advance
nevermind, answered my own question, same crap. How come they can include wireless charging in the S5 but not in the Note4? Seems like they did some great stuff that seemed very basic and rushed the Note4 out without the same tech such as dust and waterproof. I don't get it.

I have been wondering the same thing. I certainly won't get one unless it has Qi charging. I am assuming they will release a wireless back cover again.

I don't want to buy another back or another "sticker". How is it other models have it built in and this, their "latest" version doesn't? This is truly a step backward in the Note series. Huawei's devices are looking very nice right now.

I wonder if the quick charging will work with wireless charging?

No. They are two separate things... a given Qi charger only puts out a limited amount of power.

Do the Huawei phones have wireless charging? After you mentioned Huawei I checked out some of their best devices but couldn't see any wireless charging options.

If it is wireless charging, does it mean it will have a magnetic back? I need that so I can stick it to my car CD slot caddy.

Wait. They included wireless charging in the s5? My wife has the s5 and I had to buy a qi back to get wireless charging. I've had to buy qi receivers for all my other phones

^^What he said^^ and theres no way any wireless charger can do that, also given my experience with the LG G3 I am not ruling out damage to the battery or device due to overheating whilst wireless charging, my battery life on G3 perished after such time as I started using wireless charger.
I may be wrong, however, its fairly coincidental.
On a related note the pins are definitely there for wireless charging but no coil as far as I can tell.

Note 4 DOES support wireless charging with the correct door and or cheap coil which im sure will be available soon.

Glad to hear that it supports Qi charging (with add on). Since going wireless on my Note 3 I'll never plug my phone in again.

I'm pretty sure the reason the Note wasn't certified dust and water-resistant is the large long opening in it to accommodate the S-Pen.

I don't see why Samsung or any smartphone company hasn't started using the vapor/nano-coat waterproofing. It wouldn't matter how big any hole is. See HzO, P2i and others.
The day I get my Note 4 I'm sending it in to get 'vaporized'. Only ~50 bucks, totally worth it for a $1000 device that fits in your pocket.

Idk why Samsung doesn't include the wireless charging back to begin with. That way all the cases would still fit it. It's irritating to say the least.

Its 60 bucks and it says specifically on the site that its not waterproof. I can find better ways to spend 60 bucks.

Same here. I use the stock samsung wireless cover I think I got for 20 bucks for my note 3. It works great with the TYLT and I don't use usb anymore. Even when traveling I have a portable battery "ravpower" with QI built in and it works great.

Because then they couldnt charge you the $40 for a new back.

I hope you know that quick charge feature required additional purchase of an adapter and good luck finding it before or soon after release.

No it doesn't. The note 4 comes with a charger with 2 capacities. Normal and the quick charge. No need to buy any extra or new "special" charger.

[Q]Does wireless charging work with OTG?

So I was just thinking, we know the nexus 4 has wireless charging capabilities and also OTG.
My question is will both be able to be used at once ie: connect usb stick to watch movies whilst charging wireless on a charging mat?

I don't see why it wouldn't. I've got a like 6 OTG cables lying around, I'll be sure to check it out as soon as my N4 gets here if nobody else comes up with a definite answer.

Not yet. I plan on going to Fry's tomorrow to see what they have. If I don't see anything I'll probably order one of the energizer ones from Amazon.
Frankly, I cannot understand why they didn't release the charger at the same time. I really hope they don't pull a Sansung and release the accessories 6 months later. On another note, I see the palm wireless charging pods on amazon going for about 15 bucks. I wonder if they will work okay with the n4. Oregon Scientific has a charging mat/alarm clock weather station with Qi technology. It's about 105 bucks, but would be really nice. Decisions decisions.

The palm touchstones will not work with the N4.
TY for confirming that. Saved me the trouble of testing it out myself. Anyone else recommend a wireless charging pad?

The energizer qi pads on Amazon are what a lot of people are going with. The LG WCP 700 is also a charger that can be used. The only bad part is that it beeps after the phone has been charged and continues to beep until you take it off. Apparently you can take the speaker out of it and it works just fine if you are willing to take the risk.

Galaxy s4 wireless charging?

So I just bought this wireless charging dock last night: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=400461623073
And thought that this is all I would need in order to charge my battery. However, Now I'm worried I will need a battery door. Does anyone know git certain whether or not I will need a different battery door to use wireless charging (currently using the one that came out of the box) if so, where would I be able to find one at? Thanks in advance!

Don't need to get a new battery door. That new Samsung door will actually be larger than the current one. Some/many cases won't fit.
Get this instead - wireless receiver that fits inside the stock battery door:

I pre-ordered the one for the S4, after it was written up on Engadget. It hasn't been released yet, apparently, so I'm still waiting.
Here's the Engadget article. Some good things said about it in the comments:
http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/10/monster-watts-wiqiqi-slips-wireless-charging-into-samsung-galaxy/
The order site says that it will ship by May 31:

Well, I just bought it. Will review it when I receive it on the 31st.
I just went ahead and bought a $10 s3 qi receiver, hoping it will work but if not it isn't too much money down the drain. Will let you guys know how it works

Samsung is terrible with the S4 accessories.. they release a new battery cover just to enable wireless charging.. ok fine.. but they release a stupid 70bux transparent flip cover that doesn't support wireless charging.. so basically i can never get wireless charging if i ever want to use their oem products or i need a special case if i want to use their oem wireless charging cover and fit?? real smart thinking.. guess i'll give this kit a try too
I thought it was the battery it self that has a coil in it for the NFC and that was for charging?
if not I have my palm pre still that has that wireless charging - could I take that battery cover apart and take that coil out and just attach it to the inside of the phone
I dont see anywhere where a battery cover with this built in will connect inside like it does on the palm pre, there arent any contacts that I can see that will go to the battery charting how would this work

Are you sure you are looking at a GS4?
There are 4 contacts. 2 to the left and 2 to the right of the flash. I think the left ones are for charging. I am basically ready to do what you said but need to figure out the polarity of these contacts.
There are other related threads but no responses yet...

To the guy worrying about the flip cover - there are tons of wireless charging inserts on eBay. You don't need the Samsung back, just get one of those things and stick it under the cover.
Cheers.

You can put a wireless charging receiver card inside your S4. Now it is a very pop way to charge your phone. If you need any technical help, please PM me.

I'm hoping yours worked. I've had a qi receiver in my S3 for about 6 months now. I pulled it out to see if it would work in my S4 and it doesn't quite fit. The pad would fit, but it lays over the sim card and mSdcard, which probably wouldn't be a big deal, but the problem is the two small brass contacts don't quite fit in the square charging holes on the s4, they're probably 0.25mm too large and slightly to far apart for the S4.
My S3 pad is about 6 months old though, so hopefully the newer s3 pads have been modified to work with both phones.
I love wireless charging though and just went ahead and ordered a qi pad for my s4 from the fastech link earlier in this thread.

USB flap... Annoying to open

I tend to charge my phones in the car a lot, and as I use a car dock app I put the phone on charge mist journeys.
Thinking of getting the s5.... How much of a PITA is it to keep opening or closing the flap when charging?

the problem with the wireless charge is the rate of charge is way too slow still.... it's good if you have it in a place were you'll leave the phone for a long time.....
the usb flap does suck but is the price you have to pay to get a good seal...

I can't comment on the speed of in car wireless chargers as I don't have one but the wireless charger I have at home isn't that slow at all, arguably if it's in a car then it will be on charge for the duration of the journey and so the time it takes to charge becomes slightly irrelevant.
Also charge time is dependant upon the current that the receiver can draw and the current that the base can deliver. The Base and receiver combination I have can work at about 800mA and so once you take a bit off for the inefficiency of wireless charging then they're not that much slower than a mains charger. if the 5V supply from your car charger can only deliver 500mA then yup it's gonna take a while It pays to look closely into the specs of these things before parting with your hard earned as cheap usually means just that.....sorry gone off topic

800mA charging versus 1.8mA charging is quite a difference, so yes, even at home, wireless charging is slow
and even slower in the car

I guess I'm just not in that much of a rush to charge my phone then
I went into my carriers store yesterday to look at the s5 and xperia z2. Came out with the z2. That darn flap would annoy me to buggery.
The z2 has the magnetic port on the left side which makes it slightly better.
Not wishing to troll, I've always been a Samsung fan since the Note2 and have upgraded to the s4 and then most recently the note 3 but the s5 didn't stand out for me.
Ok the z2 hasn't got all the features of the s4 or s5 but most of which I never used anyway, and those I did I used rarely.
Maybe in 6 months I'll go back to the Note when the 4 is released lol

Haha.
Wouldnt it be nice if we could take the best bits of several phones and amalgamate them together to make the perfect phone.
There is no perfect for everyone phone out there.
I change phones every few months now, so I suppose I know if I don't get along with the z2 I will sell it on.
So far I'm liking it though... The Sony skin isn't as heavy as TW. Can't say I'm missing any of the TW features yet... I think most are nice to have features but not essential.

Wireless Charging for BB Priv AT&T

Just about to get my Priv (FINALLY!), buying stuffs to armor it up - quick chargers, cases etc..
So here is the question: as there is no official wireless charger for Priv, which 3rd-party wireless charger available is best for it?

I don't have priv yet, but planning to buy one in a few days. These are the wireless chargers I was looking at:
1) Anker
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ue&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_5&smid=A294P4X9EWVXLJ
2) Spigen
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ue&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_6&smid=A2SFKRF5TPZMT5
3) MoKo
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ue&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_7&smid=A2VT4H683M5NNA
4) Choetech
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ue&ref_=ox_sc_sfl_title_8&smid=A1NCVKF8LXGAA9
#3 has AC adapter included, but that is about it. I want it to be like a stand, so it will be easier to see what if I get a text, call...
Not sure if you bought one yet, but I've had mine for a few days and I can tell you the wireless chargers that will work well with this will be a select few. It seems the coil in the PRIV is near the very bottom of the back, so chargers like the spigen listed above (Which I have and use with my Nexus 7 LTE) don't work well at all. It continuously connects and disconnects because the coil is so low on the PRIV that it doesn't line up well. I also have the most recent Samsung QI charger that I got for my Note 5, and that one actually works pretty well because you can set the PRIV on it towards the very bottom of the device. Another example is trying to us the Nexus QI charging orb, which the PRIV won't work well with because putting it on there so close to the bottom causes the device to fall over the top because it's top heavy. So long story short a pad or flat surface charger will most likely be best as it allows you to position the device properly. Hopefully this helps!
PS: This is the best device I've had in a long time, and I've owned most current and past flagships. Reminds me of my days on webOS with my Palm Pres...but a million times better!

I just asked users on amazon if some of the chargers do work well with Priv. Will reply here if I get any answer. Have you tried to put your Priv in landscape on the wireless charger such as spigen? The reason I asked is because I read that some user had issues with some phones which would disconnect/re-connect, but when placed horizontally on the charger, all was well.

Yes it does wort of work. The problem is that the coil is so low on the Priv that it falls of when trying to put it on there horizontal. Same with the Nexus orb. It's kind of annoying. One solution with the spigen is to put something under the priv when it's on there horizontal so it meets up with the higher coil as the spigen has three coils.

I saw 2 different Samsung chargers on amazon... Do you know the samsung charger's model # that you have described in one of your replies?
This is the one I have...

Do you know if the main difference is the "fast charging" and if Priv might benefit from the below charger vs yours?
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Fast-...8755&sr=1-9&keywords=samsung+wireless+charger
As far as I know the PRIV is not compatible with Fast Wireless Charging, but I'm not sure. The issue is simply the placement of the PRIV's wireless coil in the back of the phone. It's nearly at the very bottom of the phone so it doesn't align well with some wireless chargers. Most phones have the coil in the middle of the back.

Looks like Fast Charging is for samsung phones. I found couple of interesting chargers which are vertical:
1) http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Miko...636&sr=8-5&keywords=vertical+wireless+charger
2) http://www.amazon.com/Aukey-Wireles...636&sr=8-6&keywords=vertical+wireless+charger
I think I would get the first one....
Anyone tried the Samsung wireless charger? I was trying with the Samsung wireless charger for S6 but it doesn't work...
Just found out my device is STV100-3 which doesn't support wireless charging.... Darn darn darn..... Ahhhhhhhhh
It should work with any QI wireless charger, assuming you have a model with wireless charging built in.
UPDATE: Contrary to my previous posts...the spigen charger referenced in this thread DOES work with the PRIV. I tried it again last night with a different cable and charger and it does work perfectly. It must have been an issue with the cable and charger I was using with it previously not providing enough voltage or something. Sorry for the incorrect information.
Also, I can confirm it does work with the Samsung chargers, but the PRIV's coil is at the very bottom so you have to line up the very bottom of the phone onto the charger. Hope this helps.

Moko Standup Charger
My priv has the official blackberry leather flip case, and I'm only interested in chargers that work with the phone in the case.
I just got the Moko stand up Qi charger a few days ago and it does NOT work reliably with the Priv in a case. It seems to work some of the time, but the night before last it charged to 60% and stopped. It's pretty easy to reproduce this behavior since it's never charged to 100%. One strange thing is that even when it only charged to 60%, it's pretty warm between the Priv and the stand. I know lipo lifetime is accelerated with heat, so I don't think using this, even if charges to 60% is a great idea..
I have a cheap square samsung charger that seems to work better, but you have to find the sweet spot.
I'm still looking for one that is 100%. Eventually, I want two, one for my desk and one for my car (air vent) but I'm definitely not going to try the Moko car version.
EDIT: I made shim (out of cardboard for now) to raise the phone up in the Moko dock by 1/2 inch. It charged to 100% for the first time! The phone is still pretty warm (about 94 degrees F) but that might be the way all of the Qi chargers work.

Just about to get my Priv (FINALLY!), buying stuffs to armor it up - quick chargers, cases etc..
So here is the question: as there is no official wireless charger for Priv, which 3rd-party wireless charger available is best for it?

This Meenova wireless charging dock is another choice -- adjustable, drop & charge.

Wireless chargers

Would you recomend any non samsung made wireless charger? i dont really want to fu** up my battery. So what do you think? should i get only a samsung made or thats doesnt really matters as long its compatible and charging my phone?
This is the one I use for quick-charging. It worked really well with the S8+ and so far is working with the S9+. The only drawback is you have to use your Samsung wall plug that came with the phone, the charger does not come with one.

It should work with any wall plug, but it may not do the quick charge, unless it has the 2A output.
I'm looking for a charger that has USB-C. Reviewers seem to enjoy the new Anker Powerwave (links below). It includes a wall adapter, which reflects the high price. However it seems to only be available in the us (thus us adapter) atm.

It should work with any of the following standards:
Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 or above
Samsung adaptive FastCharge
I just use the Samsung Quick Qi charger that I got for my S7. Amazon Link Used it also for my S8 and now I'm using it for the S9+ and it still works great.
Does anyone know what's the max current s9+ accept for wireless charging? 7.5W, 10W or 15W??

You need a charger that supports Quick Charge, I think, not just 2A output.

I'm pretty sure it's 10 watts.
You can get the official samsung fast charge convertible one used for 30. Way better than those knock off ones. I have had my refurb one for 2 years now and works great
Samsung Qi Certified Fast Charge Wireless Charging Convertible Stand/Pad w/Wall Charger (US Version) - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XH4X7SZ/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_DeiSAbXAACGX4
Personally the only Brand of cables and wireless chargers is Anker. They haven't let me down.

Thats kinda expensive, so I don't see any reason why to bother with Amazon, while you can buy from local store just a little bit more expensive, and you don't need to wait weeks or even month.
But thanks for the reply

Prime members can have it in two days flat. Fyi students can get prime for $49 a year, a good deal if you use amazon alot and also includes movies.
I've bought 4 off Amazon over the years from Seneo. They've always been great and offer a few different designs. Usually between $20-35 depending if you need the QC 2.0/3.0 adapter or not.

No problem.
Honestly, I wouldn't bother. For the last 12 months of my S7 Edge life the wireless charger sat gathering dust. It's a bit of a fad in all honesty. It's no more convenient then plugging in really and sometimes less convenient as you manouvere the device around to hit the sweet spot. Now we have USB C connection its so easy to plug in.
Only plus side to wireless is it saves on wear and tear on the charging socket. If you're picking your phone up and back down again a lot then wireless is beneficial. But if its for say, bedside and charging over night while sleeping, may as well just plug it in.

Why would you say it's no more convenient? You might say it's only a little more convenient, which may be not enough for you.
But to each his own...
If I'm in my bed and go to sleep after reading on my phone I'm already half asleep. The only thing I have to do is put it on the cradle.
Without one I need to search the cable with my left hand in the dark, plug it in (which was hard to do with my Nexus 6) and lay it down. Sometimes I'm too tired already and just lay it down hoping to be able to charge it in the morning. At work i will have a place to put it down..
It was in fact the deal breaker when I had too decide between this phone and the Pixel 2 XL.
My Nexus 6 ate USB cables... I don't know if it was just my Nexus or all of them. My Nexus 6 fell from the bathroom sink last Sunday and now I'm glad I can move to USB-C which was the connector we should have had all this time. How they could have made such a bad successor of the mini-USB I still can't understand. Hopefully my expectations of the USB-C will meet up....
I'm just saying with USB C its not an issue plugging it in, you don't need to orientate the connector. The wireless pad, half the time you would place it down and because it was slightly off you had to rotate or manouevre the phone until it started charging.
If you think it'll be more convenient to you, go for it. I'm just saying I was excited and believed it would be for me too when I got the S7 Edge but as I say, for the last twelve months I never used the wireless charger.

Wireless charging is a tradeoff for convenience. I picked up a wireless car charger at Walmart. Forget the brand offhand but it was about 50 bucks. It did do wireless fast charge and comes with its own plug / cable.
Doing delivery driving, not plugging and unplugging my phone 40 or 50 times a day is certainly awesome. However, streaming music over blue tooth and running the GPS will only marginally charge it, so over the course of a night I lose battery. Just something to think about.
