why movie file can't play - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 General

hi just wish to ask why is the movie file i transferred to my phone is able to play but once i transferred to my note pro it can't play at all.
The file i save it on SD card and using MX player to play the video file. I even use the stock video player alao unable to play at all.
Please advise. Thanks in advance.

You won't get too many responses until you tell us the file extension and post text results of Mediainfo of that file.

Yup, it's likely that the codec that the media file is in is not supported or not installed.
Also, questions should be in the troubleshooting section not the general section.

Probably because it uses one of the most common codecs (AC3, H.264). Which have all been 'removed under copyright licenses'.
Use VLC. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.videolan.vlc.betav7neon It plays everything and doesn't remove codecs just because the copyright companies ask for it.

HD2 media player

Looking for a favour ASAP please guys (i.e, before I go to work :-D). I want to be able to transfer .avi files onto my phone and play them, and after searching around, installing stuff (such as Coreplayer & TCPMP), I've decided that they don't support .avi's, OR I've just downloaded the wrong .cab for my HD2.
Can anyone provide me with a link to a good-.avi-playing media player for my HD2 pretty please?
If it matters I'm just using the bog-standard 1.43 ROM at the moment.
Thanks for your help guys.
core supports avi...actually it supports mkv and ogm as well
there is a limit of size
if the file is above the normal 855x485 limitation that will cause problems and you will only hear sound and no video. But core supports those file types
heck I love watching my noir ogm. Try to go to options and ensure you have chain's graphic driver and 100% smooth...it'll make a difference
So why do I get 'Unknown file type' errors when trying to play .avi files? Both TCPMP and Core
Any answers quickly please?? Hate to be pushy, but I've got just under an hour.
Just two quick suggestions:
1) Do the files work on your PC?
2) Your phone is unplugged from your PC when you try to play?
3) Have you tried loading the .avis from within the app rather than just clicking on them in File Explorer?
Thanks for your help buddy.
Yes, to all 3 questions mate. Is there a codec pack or something for the HD2? As a very select few play OK, yet most don't, but they are all .avi, makes me wonder if it's a codec problem.
Did u try this version of tcpmp?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=634951&highlight=tcpmp
Yeah just tried that one, same problem mate. Weird, huh?
That's weird. I can play .avi files with that version of TCPMP.
Copied straight over, or do you convert them first?
I copied straight to my storage card. What's the resolution of the video? Try playing different .avi video, i.e different size, different resolution , and see if it works?

.mkv and subtitles

I was looking around and saw that the video player does not display the subtitles for .mkv files...does anyone know if it would be possible to somehow enable the video player to be able to display them?

Bumping.
I've got the same question. If the default player doesn't play mkvs with subtitles, is there another player that does so (already tried Rock Player).
I think we're outta luck. I asked this question a while back and got nothing but crickets.
If you absolutely need the subtitles, you could always hard encode them, but it is probably only worth the time if you absolutely cannot do without subtitles.
Nothing on the market right now which will get the subtitles. It sucks I know. There is a player in development that will support it but its not too close to release.

Have you guys tried mVideoPlayer?
It has pretty decent support for subtitles. Not sure if it plays embedded ones in mkv's, but it definitely does support subtitles.
Strange, I recall seeing a thread on Xda that had the same question but there was a guy who posted a picture/screencap of mkv and subtitles playing on a video player. I should have bookmarked that thread.

I've tried this but it didn't work. I extract the subs in .ass format and tried to load it but mVideoPlayer couldn't find the file even after I change the directory.
Try searching for meridian player in the market.

Did you make sure to rename the .ass file to match the .mkv you extracted it from? Make sure the file names match and put them both in the same directory on your phone. mVideoPlayer will load the subs automatically after you open the .mkv. It works flawlessly for me on my Galaxy S.
To view MKV files with subtitles, I've been using MKVtoolnix with MKVextractGUI to extract the subtitles from the MKV container. After the extraction, make sure the subtitle file(.ass, .srt, etc.) has the same name as the MKV file and place it in the same folder as the video. When that's done, use mVideoPlayer to play your file.
Hope this works for you!
I would include links for you guys, but there's a restriction for new users. A quick Google search should help you find the programs you'll need.

the problem with supporting subtitles in .mkv containers...is just that....mkv is JUST a container format, which can contain a myriad of video, audio, and subtitle file formats. And there are several subtitle file formats...
mVideoplayer supports external .SRT subs, so what one can do is use a tool like virtualdubmod or mkvtoolnix to demux subs out of the mkv container and assuming they are SRT, just extract them and name them to the exact name of the MKV file. it's also possible to download SRT subs fairly easily for common videos, but there's the possibility that text timing can be off....
...apparently mVideoPlayer supports .ass as well....
Oh, I just had to place the subs in the same folder as the Video. That worked for me.
Breaking: mVideoPlayer 2.20 updates states that it now supports subs in MKV's. I haven't tried it yet, I'm just now dling it.
Peep here.
Support for subtitles in MKV files, but you need a phone that supports playback of mkv.

edit: more info
Yep, now it is time again for another beta version of mVideoPlayer. This time the big news are subtitle support in mkv files for phones that support playback of these files. (Galaxy S for example).
Full change-log:
- Support for subtitles in MKV files for all Galaxy S owners!
- Toggle subtitle on/off has been replaced with 'Subtitle Tracks' since MKV files may have multiple subtitle tracks.
- Now remembers previous search phrase in all search dialogs.
- IMDb Info accessible from poster search activity through long press on movie.
- Fix for poster search cache showing up in Gallery app on Android < 2.2 devices.

[Q] Default Media Player doesn't play the audio in some of my avi files

I'm finding that many of the movies I have downloaded contain audio that does not play back on my Elocity A7 tablet (movie plays fine but there is no sound). I haven't taken a specific look at which audio codecs they are but I'm guessing some of you have some suggestions. Is there a specific media player I need to download or is there a way to download and install a codec pack like K-Lite?
Probably an issue with the type of sound encoding.... Apparaently, Tegra 2 devices cannot decode DTS sound, or even Dolby Digital sound. At least that's what I remember reading somewhere.... So, I don't think that there is a way to hear the audio on those files without re-encoding the movie...
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here.

[Q] Nexus 7 32gig, mkv 1080p playback DTS and NTFS support

Hello all
This is my first post, I was going to purchase the new Nexus 7 32gig version which just came out in the UK. I mainly want it to view movies on as I do a lot of travelling. I rip my blu rays into mkv h264 format and they are around 8-10gigs with HD audio.
So my questions are, what is the best player? from searching around and looking on youtube I see different answers, Diceplayer,Mx Player and Bs player. Dice player seems to get a lot of positive results...but....
....some of my movies have DTS sound which i hear the latest Dice and Mx player no longer support. Is there a way to get a previous version of Say Dice player and if so how do I install it if not via the app store?
My last question is I saw recently that Dice player now supports NTFS formatted Usb sticks, I will need this as the movies are quite large, so is there a version of Dice which has DTS support AND NTFS support and how would i go about getting and installing.
Thanks for reading, and any help is greatly appreciated

You sideload them onto the device. Copy the .apk files for the programs you wish to install to the device, then use a file manager (ES file manager, Astro, etc) and install them. You need to enable the option to allow installation of apps from unknown sources (Settings -> Security).
You'll have to try with your own files to see what works best for you as a player. Everyone has their preferences.
I don't know the answer to your questions about dice. You'll have to try to see.
I would rip blurays for N7 with different settings. Playing a 10Gb 1080P mkv with 5000 kbps bitrate + DTS is kind of an overkill for a 7" device.. Just rip them around 2000Mbit/s AC3 and you'll be satisfied for both size and video quality..
I know its not an answer to your question, but just wanted to give some advice..

Thanks for the reply
I should have said in my original post, that I have already ripped lots of my movies as mkv, 10 gig etc for my western digital device. I didnt want to have to re-convert them for the nexus or support two formats. Im happy with the mkv rips i have and I wanted to just keep one file format for them all.
But thanks again for replying

Great, thanks for the info I will try if i get one
As far as players go BSplayer free will handle mkv's with DTS that's what I'm using works great. I don't know about NTSF being compatible. You can always copy some over to a usb drive formated in fat32...
Hope that helps a bit.

[Q] Playing video in avi format

Hi
When I am trying to transfer an avi video on my Nexus 7, I am receiving the following warning:
The File "filename here" may be copied to the device for storage or transport use only. It is not supported for use on the device itself. If possible, use a media program that can convert the file before copying it. If you copy the file now, it will be stored on the device, but may not be presented in the device user interface. Do you wish to copy the file anyway?
Now I have installed MX Player, however I am receiving the same warning. Any ideas what can I do to view avi files on nexus 7?
Thanks in advance.
Is this the computer telling you this? If so, just ignore it and copy anyway. The computer doesn't really know what your device can or cannot do, it is just making a dumb assumption. You should be able to play the video with no problems.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. Yes the message was given by the computer. In fact, I followed your suggestion and copied it anyway, however I got a message that the video cannot be played. Also I tried downloading other apps (bs player and dice), however I still got the same message.
Any other suggestions what can I try please as converting them to mp4 seems to be taking a lot of time.
Thank you in advance.
Hi
Just as an update I have tried the following but all to no success:
- In MX Player I tried to play the avi file in S/W decoder but still got the message that the video cannot be played
- I tried to download the ARM7 codec for MX Player - again with no success
- Tried to install the DICE Player, but still the avi files cannot be played.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I am really stuck.
Thank you in advance.
Hmm... perhaps try using MoboPlayer.

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I have downloaded the MoboPlayer as suggested but unfortunately to no avail. Not sure if it helps, but the following are the avi properties of the file I am trying to play (the file was recorded from a digital camera)
Image 640x480
Audio: bitrate - 64kbps, audio sample size 8 bit and audio format - CCITT u-Law
Video: framerate 30fps and data rate 6745 kbps.
Just as a side note, I tried several other avi files which I have on my computer, but I am receiving the same message for all of them.
Thanks for your help.
Regards
AVI isn't a video format as such but a container, the actual audio and video can be any number of different codes (divx, xvid, aac, mp3 etc etc)
I'd guess your video camera is producing a file that might be a more unusual codec. I used to have a tool o the my pc that would analyse the file and tell you what codecs it used, can't remember what it was called though.
Based on the info above and a little googling the audio seems to be in a format mainly for recording phone calls in call centres. So it's already looking like a weird format from that alone

thx jimbobvfr400 for your reply. Actually I managed to solve part of the problem. I used the Gspot v 2.1 utility to identify the codec being used. As for the avi in question, the codec is mjpg and this did not play with the apps I tried. Eventually, I tried copying another avi on the nexus, and initially I received the same warning before transferring the file. This time I used an xvid avi and although at first it didn't work, I tried to play it in Soft decoder and it worked fine.
So at least I can play the xvid types but so far not the mjpg files. If anyone managed to play these type of files your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
