SM-G900R6 VZW LRA Partner Carrier Variant Help Thread - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, just came to the S5. My carrier (in my case, Bluegrass Cellular) is a carrier partnered with Verizon's LRA Rural LTE program.
More info can be found here. http://www.verizonwireless.com/news/2012/05/4g-lte-goes-live-in-rural-america.html
https://opennetwork.verizonwireless...s-modules/devices/SMG900R6_GalaxyS5_2808.html
This thread is intended to help others with this variant of the S5.
I thought I would take the lead in helping the small community with this phone looking to root and run custom roms as we did in the S4 thread in the Verizon S4 Help/QA Thread.
* our other thread for the S4, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2453312 *
We get our LTE phones from Verizon, and they are close-nearly clone variants of their original Verizon version. For example, for the Galaxy S4 I just moved from, SCH-545 (VZW) VS SCH-I545L (LRA) which even had an identical partition table. This s5 variant is in many ways equal to the Verizon dev edition. Also further evidence to support a mostly Verizon clone these phones share the same fcc id, a3l-smg900v
Status: What I've tried so far.
Root: Geohot's Towelroot worked successfully.
RECOVERY: UNLOCKED BOOTLOADER! use twrp or cwm whatever you please.
Kernel: I use ktoonsez kernel. Works perfectly. Highly recommended, this guy's work is amazing.
Custom ROM: installed and working! VZW custom roms work. If you guys want to try Verizon roms, just edit build prop to lra info, you can find it thread.. Just remember to restore apn aswell and it works perfectly. You can use kitkat TW roms like Alliance rom, OptimalROM, extreme syndicate etc.. some aosp roms work with (patch not needed) some roms have unexplained issues..i dont know what to do about them. Remember to flash kernel of choice (highly recommend ktoonsez) after rom aswell. Have fun!
I will update as I go along, anyone can feel free to post. Welcome any and all who have this phone for any questions.

Safestrap: MUST use AT&T safestrap after I discovered we have different partitions than the 900V, as this time around we have a matching partition table of the AT&T S5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794087
Custom ROM: installed and working! VZW custom roms work. MUST BACKUP APN TO RESTORE (follow instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2656046 ).
Everything else works.

I also have the SM-G900R6 & have been testing stuff to find out what works on our model, If you like I can post what mods I have tested & confirm working.
Are you also on NF2 with Bluegrass? Was your original firmware ND7?

Yes and yes. I've been trying custom vzw roms but there's a few unresolved issues (phone wakeups and other things, plus ne9 based roms don't work properly) etc I can't figure out. I'm back to stock but with tons of build prop tweaks, running like a champ. I can share with you if you like. What have you tested?

Sure share the build prop stuff please, I have tested the sound mods & modded accuweather apk and a few other things..

My build prop. It's possible to delete your build prop, copy that one into it and set permissions. Or restore it via build prop editor app, would probably be the easiest way.

Mine says nothing about boot. I'll try to do a backup and find a camera to show you later.
I tried Alliance slimhyde and extreme syndicate. I think They have problems with our firmware tho. Works mostly, apns are restorable , but have issues with Android.com.phone wakeup, can't figure out but it causes high system drain. If you're OK with less than stock battery life, try it. I'm trying to investigate the differences that cause problems I experience.

Thanks for this thread it will come in handy in the future. Plan on staying stock for now but may root for the MoaAB list. I have the R6 through my tiny carrier in Michigan Thumb Cellular.
So does each LRA carrier release software updates at different times? I'm on NF2 as well. Will root cause update errors?

The lra carriers should release all at once, updates are pushed from Samsung. Root can cause errors but you can unroot and restore system changes. It will block ota alerts tho, but I have an Xposed module that bypasses the root check so I'll still get notified of an update. Safestrap backups also help out a ton, so you can make a stock system backup to restore later etc.

Band 12 is hardly in any devices yet. Not even the new iPhones. I'm hoping for 2, 5 and 17 (band 4 and 13 are a given) that way if I ever want to sell it, it will work on T-Mobile and AT&T.

i did, says nothing about boot. everything else is ok. as far as testing the build prop, easiest way is probably to make a backup, and install build.prop editor app. it will create a romtoolbox folder on phone, then in that folder you should see build prop backups. paste it in there, open up app and restore it.

Hey guys
Has anyone tried to use a GSM Sim card? US or international, to test GSM capabilities of this model? Technically this phone should be an unbranded, unbloated Verizon model, which is SIM unlocked for US/Intl. carriers, unless the software restricts it.

Since our carriers use band 13 LTE like Verizon, it has to be unlocked.
I'm just curious what LTE bands it has.

Until dev get their hands on the LTE version you have to live with it. I'm sure the Korean Note 2 works on all bands except USA if that's what you're asking.

I thought Korea version SHV-E250s have supports different bandwidths, will it support the 3G and 4G EE in UK though~~~
you can root the E250S by flashing recovery.img found in these forums in odin
DO NOT flash boot.img that is sometimes also in the odin tar file or you will not be able to boot into android or recovery.
(although to fix simply flash the stock boot.img back)
source: I rooted mine
(32GB version, LTE)
Thread open until verified...Thank You.
Any pic to proof? I assume this will work for N7105 too... Care to explain step by step tutorial?

This will work for E250K? I suspect that it should right?
Any progress on rooting the Korean Note 2? How many people on this forum have a Korean Note 2? Mine is the E250L (LG telecom)
I have the SHV-E250L (LG U+) and I going to try to stay unrooted.
This info only applies if you are in Korea but with my last Korean Galaxy phone, I took it to the A/S center to get a broken earphone replaced, and they tapped into my phone for 20 minutes trying to prove that it was rooted so they can deny me a free replacement. I know that is just bad luck with the service staff that day. But once they verified that it wasn't rooted, they gave me new earphones. To avoid that kind of hassle because the service at least for the first year is great (free shattered screen replacements while you wait and such), I think try to keep it unrooted for as long as possible. Let's see how long I can hold out...
Most of the reasons I rooted and put roms in the past was to gain access like wifi tethering, better battery life, and better functionality, but none of those are issues with this device. Wifi tethering is enabled without restrictions out of the box and without extra charge.

Some questions about this device
Hi All,
Since this seems to be the only GN2 version available with 32gb internal storage, I am feeling a strong temptation to buy it. However, I do have some concerns I am hoping you owners can address:
1) Is the DMB antenna obvious? I looked at the Samsung Korea site, and most of the photos don't show it. Does it retract or detach in some way? I know I won't be able to use it in the US so am hoping it will be easy to forget about.
2) Does it have a FM radio receiver like the international version?
3) Is the user experience the same as the international version if English is selected as the default language?
Ideally I would like to eventually be able to flash an international rom into the device, but I know that's not possible now. Are any of the current owners expert enough to offer an educated guess as to whether it will be possible in the future?
Thanks for your help and advice.

how does one convert one variant to another?

I am currently using an unlocked rooted (stock recovery) Bell Version of the D803 (D803B20e software version) on the Rogers network. If I want to convert my phone to a Rogers version of the ROM (no Rogers bloat needed), can I just modify my build.prop or do I need to download the Rogers version of the ROM and flash it using LGMOBILEAX?
Reasoning is I would like to be able to download the knock code unlock feature which Rogers is rolling out just now.
Thanks
So it doesn't work like that, there's differences to each phone performed by the telephone companies (mostly for which radio bands the phone can use). Anyway the knock on and off feature can be supported by any phone. One way is to install something like Xposed and then using a feature enhancing tool like Gravity box (you can find it on the forum). The other option is installing a ROM that has this feature in it. Quite a few do (such as SlimKat)

Thanks for the reply. I was under the impression all Canadian D803s had the exact same ROM with the exception of the build.prop which makes them appear as different phones, and respective bloatware. Am I wrong in this then?
I would prefer to keep the stock ROM, and I have Xposed installed. I will check and see if there is a knock code feature in any of the G2 Xposed modules in the mean time.
Thanks

(QA) Flashing T-Mobile rom on Verizon Note 3 Retail WIFI Calling

Does anybody know or has had success flashing a t mobile rom, whether it be stock or customized rom, on a retail Verizon note 3?
I've read reports that flashing using Odin will brick...
But how about using safestrap.
The reason why I want to, is because I would like to completely switch over to tmobile from Verizon. But still keep my phone...
As well has anyone had experience with getting wifi texting/calling to work on a Vz Note 3 retail?
I wish for this thread to be a place where devs, users are able to share and maybe find a solution. Any help or advice would greatly be appreciated
I did flash a t mobile rom on my verizon note 3. I used safestrap. I was getting errors about wifi calling and it would give me a SIM card error every now and then. But over all it worked fine. Just add Verizon's data info in so your text messaging will work.
Cant get tmobile to work
Can someone please point me in the right direction........i am just trying to get my VZ note 3 to get tmo services to work, but no matter what i do, nothing works...
I have tried on the stock rom before rooting or anything following these steps listed in OP== NO DICE
I have rooted, installed safestrap 3.75 b4 and tried the steps again===NO DICE
I have installed a custom rom, specifically jasmine rom 2.0( which requires to flash the NC2 modem afterwards, which i did successfully) in hopes that that would help and====NOOOO DICEEEE
i can't access any service menu listed in this whole WEBSITE, none will work, not even an app from the play store that executes them....
I just keep getting that stupid INVALID SIM error and the bars indication stay blank and nothing happens.....WHAT THE #&@% AM I MISSING????
I HAVE NEVER RAN INTO SO MANY ISSUES BEFORE, im not a newbie in flashing stuff or anything like that, been using XDA since teh Windows Mobile days in HTC's prime, but this has be off the wall.
ANY HELP at all would be appreciated....since im the only asswhole that cant seem to have tmobile work on the VZ Note 3.......

Has anyone ever tried flashing the T-Mobile modem to activate the WCDMA 1700 band? Is that's what's needed to activate this band or is there more to it? I know wih LG devices, by flashing the complete software of a different carrier changes the band settings as well
I'm assuming no one has any interest in doing this? WCDMA 1700 is needed for HD voice for T-Mobile....

Sprint/Verizon/USCellular testers requested for CDMA PAC ROM 6.0.1.

I have been making ROMs for the N915F and N915T, and, by God's grace, they have been working.
I do not own a N915 CDMA phone, but I have created some builds, so I need some testers, if anyone is willing. Here is a link to download PAC 6.0.1 made for CDMA phones:

You may need a data fix zip from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/marshmallow-6-0-1-ports-data-fixes-t3379978
I *think* you will need to be on a 5.1.1 bootloader and modem, but you can try on 6.0.1 also. Your bootloader needs to be unlocked. You will need TWRP, and this may or may not work. I am pretty sure it will boot, because of a tester I am working with, but the more testers the better. I need actual details, like what modem/bootloader you are using, if it did or did not boot, install, work, etc. Screenshots help me visualize what you are talking about. Etc.
I have a few people who were testing, but they have lives and things get busy. So I am hoping to get a few more testers to help speed up the process.

I'll try this.. I have the Verizon version.
Great! I see some people have been downloading, that's great news. Feel free to chime in if you tried it out, booted, didn't, flash error, works like a champ, etc...
Once again, it will be very helpful if you include what bootloader/modem you are using.

Well, 47 downloads later, but only 2 people sent feedback.
One tester said that he was on 5.1.1, Verizon, and without using the datazips, could make a phone call, but couldn't receive one. There are several datazips listed above, perhaps one of them would enable calls to also be received, if anyone was willing to test.
Thanks to the 2 testers who did respond.

It depends on how this one goes.
Mickey387 made a N7 Resurection Remix ROM for the international variant, so I don't see why we can't have one for the Sprint variant. Might take a while, since Cyanogen is gone, everything is switching to LineageOS as a base, so that takes a bit of time....

I need actual details, like what modem/bootloader you are using, if it did or did not boot, install, work, etc. Screenshots help me visualize what you are talking about. Etc.

You can try on 6.0.1 first, but I really believe that you will need to be on the 5.1.1 modem and bootloader. To do that, you would need to use Odin and flash stock 5.1.1 for your phone, then flash TWRP, then wipe and flash this rom.
However, you can try it on 6.0.1, but if it doesn't work right (like the data/cellular/camera/etc.) then you would need to flash the 5.1.1. Thanks.

Qualcomm - Boost XT1766 - Could someone make a TWRP-flashable Stock?

I've been having trouble activating my device with Boost since flashing custom ROMs. I'd like to temporarily flash the Stock image, then return to a custom ROM. Specifically the stock image here - firmware.center/ firmware/Motorola/ Moto%20E4/Stock/XT1766/ . I found one already that was recently made in another thread, but TWRP refuses saying my device is perry not sperry. Which is fine, as I think it's for the Sprint-specific variant anyway. So if we can avoid that error somehow, awesome (as I see the ROM name has "sperry" in the title). But yes, I'm certain my phone and that model are the same.
Before anyone says "Why didn't you-", I tried RSDLite and it doesn't recognize the device no matter the USB slot or cable. I tried fastboot, but I get "Not enough space" errors on the phone and FAIL's in the prompt. So I've come to the conclusion that the easiest way would be a TWRP ROM. And yeah, I feel dumb already for forgetting to activate the SIM before flashing.
Anyway, I hate being long-winded. I just want to verify that I've done everything I can on my end before anyone makes it.
Thanks in advance!
Hi
You Can Flash XT1766_SPERRY_SPRINT_7.1.1_NCQ26.69-56_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip
with the utility that was made by rootjunky you can convert the servicefile.xml to a batch service.bat file , you need this RSD_Lite_Motorola_XML_To_Batch_Script.zip
but you have to know that you will loose the ability to add new apn and htospot wont work anymore with this upgrade , and its the only one for the phone around . look to my thread here in the same section GUIDES where is posted this thread look for "How To Get Working Apn + Hotspot After Upgrade to NCQ26.69-56 With SPerry XT1766".
extract the firmware ZIP file , in the same dir put adb fastboot plataform-tools lite and the RDS_lite Xml To Batch script , convert the servicefile.xml and run servicefile.bat with the phone on fastboot bootloader mode connected to computer with windows 10 and run servicefile.bat wait to flash and that is.
Keep it simple...
Just flash stock firmware with RSDLite or fastboot.

Oops... Just finished reading the full OP.
Try flashing the US Retail version and see what happens.
Side Note: If you flashed a custom ROM before activating the device, it will cause issues. I did the same with a 2013 Moto G and I could never activate it with Boost, the signal read 'Chameleon', could never get it fixed. I had to buy a new phone.
I just did a thread yesterday with ROMs for all the E4 Plus models, including a TWRP flashable OTA for Boost. I'm working on the E4 now. I'll post the Boost ones first shortly.

Can someone make trwp flashable zip link is dead
I'm compiling a TWRP flashable stock Android 7.1.1 ROM for the Virgin Mobile xt1766 variant (Build No. NCQ26.69-56). It should also work on the Boost & Sprint variants. It will be pure stock with the exception of dm-verity and forced encryption, both of which will be disabled.

Right on dude. Virgin Mobile here
From all my past experiences with the Moto E series of smartphones, the past few years at least, the Sprint, Boost Mobile & Virgin Mobile variants all use the same stock Android build. The carrier specific apps, unique to each provider, are typically downloaded at the time of activation. This was especially true with the Moto E LTE Surnia and the Moto G3 Osprey. If there are any significant differences with the xt1766, someone please let me know. For now I'm assuming the same stock Android 7.1.1 ROM will work for Sprint, Virgin & Boost.

Your only chance (a very slight chance) would be to go here: https://www.xda-developers.com/contact/ and contact the web master. If your account was deleted, they might not be able to help you. If it was temporarily closed, you might get lucky. It's pretty much up to Mike Channon I believe, he's the man in charge.
Edit: and don't forget to hit the thanks button when someone helps you.

No you didn't didn't step on my toes. I'm very glad you made some stock ROMs available for the xt1766. That has me started on another project, which is using the telephony configurations from the stock firmware to create an Aroma installer which will fix 4G/LTE data connectivity on the xt1766 on LineageOS & other custom ROMs. Data connectivity appears to be a huge problem on the Sprint, Boost & Virgin Mobile variants when running custom ROMs. Thank you for your work & contributions.

Hello old friend. Good to see you here too. The Perry has been my latest interest. Yes, I'll definitely be in touch. I could use a little of your feedback on LTE data connectivity on the xt1766 Sprint compatible Perry.
