How does the battery behaves when compared with HTC HD and the original Diamond?
I found a good review article of the diamond2
"In terms of battery life the Diamond2 promises nearly double the amount of standby time over its predecessor. i cant quite beleive a 5 day battery life on this phone! if it is true then it will be awesome but it has a smaller battery 1100 mah against 1350 in my phone currently which i get about 1.5 days out of it.
So i will be reserved, and slightly pessimistic

I would expect it to perform like your current phone (the HD, right?). smaller battery but smaller screen, so it should be about the same, and the htc provided data seems to be in line with that (about the same stand by, talk time and video talk time...)
So I think u are right to be pessimistic, but I also think that a higher capacity battery is possible with the same size as the 1100 mAh one: This TD2 battery is large, compared to the TD1 one: about 2 times as large, and TD1 was 900 mAh. Except if they are not of the same thickness, TD2 battery should have a higher capacity than just 1100 mAh...

I do not know how TD2 battery compare size-wise to the HD, maybe you could post some pics of your battery? side by side shots of TD2, TD1 and HD batteries would be very nice, especial it we also have thickness shots anyone having acces to the 3 care to post those?
gkai, no i dont have an hd, i wish i had one. I only have a polaris which is why i cannot understand the 5 day battery life as if my current phone does not last that long. I think that something that is more powerful, bigger screen and a smaller battery will last as long, i just dont, and also mine is stated to have a 400 hr standby time and the td2 only has 360 hours.
So i will still be pessimistic and say that they had some wonderous phone to get it to last for 5 days! (or didnt touch it for about 3 days!)
also the physical size of the battery does not actually matter the rating of the battery is what matters and that is smaller therefore a smaller battery. The td1 i think was always said to have a really bad battery life so hopefully htc have heard this and made the td2 better with a longer battery life, we can all live in hope

hum, then it is possible: faster processor does not mean that it will drain battery faster: new generation are etched finer and use less power for same or more processing power. Screen can be (slightly) more efficient, and power saving of the different radio can be better too. But I expect the phone to be good for 1.5/2.5 days of typical usage, no more, given the current behavior of the HD, touch pro and touch diamond (which have almost exactly the same internal components)
So i will still be pessimistic and say that they had some wonderous phone to get it to last for 5 days! (or didnt touch it for about 3 days!)

The second is more likely, I doubt htc has changed the battery for the review (although it is possible). Good cell coverage is also good for battery life, if u have a cell tower nearby your phone will get better standby and communication time, same for wifi. I guess they both were in ideal condition and used the phone lightly...

hum, yes, it is the rating that count...but given that all good batteries use the same technology (lithium-polymer), mAh rating should be in direct relation with physical size: a large battery with small rating just means that your battery is of an older generation (unlikely), or that there is a lot of dead material (plastic packaging) in your battery. So either the TD2 battery is much thinner than TD1, or it is likely that higher capacity batteries with the same physical size will surface quite soon on the accessory market (I hope for the second case, battery life under normal usage is one of the most important factor for me, it is convenient to have more than 1 day of "heavy" use per charge, and less than one day under "normal" use means the phone is poor for me, whatever its other qualities...)

My standby time always more or less equals the device usage time, so 50/50. I keep playing with it all day At the end of the day it's at app. 50% charge.

O have 3g on all day, as well as Exchange push mail, however i only get about 15 mails a day.
Screen is set to auto brightness. I have to admit i hate this rom, so am using it as a secondary device at the mo..
had it's first charge last night. Unplugged it at 7:30....now almost 11am.

3 bars from the main power meter have already gone.
Brightness is set to auto and only recieve gprs from where i am at the moment.
I new it was too good to be true, look like there'll be a full charge tonight again.

I've never seen them use Li-Poly Batteries... The D2 Uses:-

yes, my mistake However, my point stand: battery capacity should be directly linked to its physical size and weight, given that the technology and materials used are the same (especially if you compare the batteries of a single manufacturer, like HTC). If not, it mean that the battery is not optimal and that a higher capacity battery battery of the same size is likely to come afterwards (from htc or other suppliers). That's why I was interested in the physical size of the TD2 battery compared to other devices...Well, with some luck I will know today, maybe a batch will arrive this afternoon in my favorite mobile shop and I will pick one ;-)
After the first full charge and unplugging in the morning, mine lasted until the evening.

How you've managed to achieve this I'd like to know. As currently I have 2 bars remaining and I have the following listed:
19 hours 1 minute standby
Talk time 0 hours 2 minutes
Device Usage: 3 hours 25 minutes
since my last charge at 23:25pm Yesterday. It's now 21:53. I have had WiFi and 3G on most of the day mind you!
7 DAYS on Standby within 1 full charge! (however without Sim Card in)
The Samsung Galaxy S2 has horrible battery life. The 1650mah battery will not suffice to anyone but light users.
In my eyes, there are many unacceptable solutions:
- Disabling battery hungry features (lowering screen brightness, undervolting CPU, uninstalling certains apps, disabling real-time sync, etc.) - I find this compromise unacceptable, I bought this device to use it with all its glory.
- Using a larger extended battery - I find this solution unacceptable, since in order for a poweruser to get through the day, at least a 3000mah battery is required. Such a battery, although exist for the S2, adds significant weight and bulk. The device becomes ugly and uncomfortable to carry around.
- Upgrading to a device with much better battery life - currently there are two, the Motorola Maxx, which I find ugly, and the Samsung Note 2, which is realy big to handle...
So, after much thought and experimentation, I finally want to report my success story (yes it's an old solution, but somehow most don't understand its enourmous power): I'm using a secondary battery. I bought another original 1650mah battery (with a seperate charger). The 1650mah battery is very light and small, so it easily fits inside my very small wallet. When I need to switch (middle day), I clocked the switch at just under 60 seconds (from pressing the power off button, to being able to fully use the device again with a fresh battery including the rubber case installed).
This is such a simple solution, it has practically zero drawbacks (If you don't mind losing 60 seconds of your life everyday...), it gives you the equivalent of a 3300mah battery (which is much more than any extended battery advertized as being 3300mah, even Mugen's), yet so few people use it...
wowwww you wrote all this just to tell us you have a secondary battery.
I know, it seems like an overkill but really, I spent 1.5 years trying to solve the S2 battery problem without huge compromises (and everything else apart from a secondary battery is a huge compromise), and I can only regret I didn't read a post like mine...

samsungs 2000mah extended battery iis realy good its just pricey
Don't see how this 'sollution' is from a different category than the other ones you've stated.. It all depends on the user, and what he/she knows about saving battery without UC and stuff.
Maybe you would last longer with one battery if your stories would be shorter

I thought I made it clear why the extra battery is a solution of a different category
- It allows you to have all the phone's features ON.
- It allows you to enjoy its comfortable, light and slick original design.
- It allows you to enjoy the equivalent of a *true* 3300mah battery.
- Minimal fuss (60 sec battery switch).
Nothing can come close to such a solution (for a power user who needs a long lasting phone). Practically no drawbacks, only benefits (in comparison to any other solution, which always present a severe compromise).
I think it's rather a good advice, than a "solution". And indeed, this is a feature you will miss whent it's gone: The replaceable battery. I've bought the 2000 mAh battery by Samsung. So I have the greater battery plus a secondary one, if needed.

you really cant notice the samsung extended battery is any bigger, especially if you have a case on your phone then it is impossible to tell. Much better than carrying and charging two batteries imo!
I dont have the extended battery and when using my phone hard over the day i can get 5 hours screen time on standard size anker battery. Have you tried using BBS to workout why your battery life is soo poor?

But you can't compare two 1650mah batteries to one 2000mah battery... the 3300mah solution gives you 65% more juice...
Regarding carrying an additional 1650mah battery, it's so small and light (30 grams) that after putting it in my wallet I forget about it completely. Charging two batteries is no fuss at all, if you have a seperate battery charger.
You are getting 5 hours screen time on 1650mah battery ? for me this is impossible, while every feature is ON (real time sync, auto brightness, facebook app, normal volt, constant 3G connection) I get this amount from two batteries (but the phone operates much more than 5 hours, more like 20). I do have bad reception at my work, which might drain the battery more.

But really, 3300mah is more than anyone would require in 1 day. It's really an overkill in itself (it's more than the Note 2 battery, and for a much smaller screen...).

Yes, I use external charger to charge the extra battery ($10 on ebay), and another $25 for the extra original 1650mah battery.
I think the battery life has a lot to do with the signal quality, and the signal sucks at my workplace (also, if you are using WIFI instead of 3G you'll again save a lot in battery, but I'm using 3G...).

I use both, but mostly Wifi.
Edit: And I don't like keeping it on minimum brightness, it kinda changes colors in S Amoled. White seems yellowish, grey becomes something else, so I keep it around 35-40%

Since i always post the same problem, battery life could be better, will probably get 8-9 hours, with 3-4 screen time. Gonna keep it stock kernal so its more stable.

It's 2600 mAh, not 2800 mAh. And why do you think it won't be enough? They're probably making AMOLED even more efficient than it was last year and the new Exynos SoC is up to 30% more efficient than current offers because of the 14 nm half node.
They are slapping power user in the face with non removable battery. Now instead of carrying spare battery I need to bring a chunky PowerBank. Can't Samsung realize they are not apple and they abandon their core audience do them no good?

is it not possible to insert 3000 mAh battery to s6? it won't be more usefull for users? why samsung still parsimonious? s5 has 2800 mAh battery & s4 has 2600 mAh battery and s6 will come with 2600 mAh battery. sometimes i can't understand to Samsung.

Like I said, if these rumors get confirmed, it's quite possible that the GS6 will perform better than current smartphones, even with a smaller battery. Which in that case allows a slimmer, lighter device.

If the phone is getting a QHD Screen I doubt that there will be any better battery results than the other mainstream smartphones.
Just compare the Note 3 vs Note 4.
What about a poll with:
a) I want a phone slim like a post card with 3-5 hours SOT
b) I want a phone slim like a S3/One/Lumia with 12-15 hours SOT

The QHD on the Korean S5 LTE-A had about the same battery life as the US variant. Therefore, the QHD on the S6 should have the same...if not better battery life even with a smaller 2600 battery. I wouldn't worry too much about...my only complaint is that it'll be non-removable

I'll take Option C. A phone that is 12mm thin and has more like 20 hours of SOT.
There's no point in making super powerful smartphones, if we can't use them like the pocket sized PCs that they have evolved into. I'm sure there are many people who would love to use their phone to get actual work done without having to worry about the battery. Also, since batteries wear out over time, I'd rather have a bigger battery than what would seem to be big enough at first.

Because the CPU/GPU only within the same generation range on 1080P(note3) and 2K(note4) though on paper spec. the latter one should be a lot better but still same generation and indeed that kind of power isn't enough to push 2K. Hence, the CPU/GPU will always require to run at a higher clock and battery draining even just on 2D.
S6 is running a whole new CPU with 14nm manufacturing process, the situation should be much better though but I agreed 1080P is enough on a tiny screen and I also prefer more battery life.

We will know by sunday's time, then all of you will really have something solid to criticize until the next device comes up, so just hang in there. Battery size difference of 200 mah is meaningless. What matters is actual battery performance. Is there a correlation? Sure. Does every phone last same length of time with the same capacity battery? Hell, no.

At time's it's not about the power of the battery but the design of the overall phone. Factors come in place like the balance of the phone, weight, storage space within the device and cost. Just look at some of the other manufacturers which has have a similar size and design also have a battery of lower rate or not much higher just look at Samsung S6 to S7 devices.
What a lot of people forget a mobilephone is a portable computer and for those that on their device 24/7 or use demanding apps or work will have a main supply to hand to charities battery or compact batter busters are very good and cheap these days. I'm sure that this battery is more than enough for most daily use on this device.

I am fully satisfied with stamina , with my use i Charge over night..
I've been wanting to get this device but I am getting turned off because of the battery complaints. Is it really bad or enough to get you through the day?

All depends... For me a full charge will go all day with about 3 hours SOT, but it varies a lot depending on WiFi access, traveling, signal strength, etc. TBH, I carry a charger and cable and tend to top off mid-afternoon of possible.
My only complaint with this device is battery life, but it's still better than my Nexus 4 was no matter how you look at it... But compared to my Moto G3 it's terrible. Is the battery life bad? I don't think so, but I would not call it good either.
Battery sux like on every snapdragon 808/810 device. Those procrssors are the most ****ed up things in mobile history.
U will get average/max 3h sot of normal usage and thats it, like on every other phone with this cpu. To compare, on xperia z2 I was getting 5h30min sot on average with the same usage.
At least battery is charging really fast, but only with original charger. With every regular charger under 1A it will be still discharging while using.
If u have money just buy something with snap820.

It's no secret the battery life is not good with this device, but isn't because of the CPU. ~85% of the battery is used by the display in the Style/Pure because the 5.7" LED display is horrible on battery, its beautiful to look at but the battery consumption is ridiculous. The CPU is actually a minor draw of power in the device, if this phone was identical except with an energy efficient AMOLED display, getting 5-6 hours of SOT would be simple. The idle draw on this device is less than 3% per hour and if doze kicks in its under 1% per hour.
I have lg g flex 2 with 1080p oled display runing on snap810 and the story about battery is the same. Ofcourse oled display in moto x would help a little, but its not a display, its a cpu draining so much battery.

No complaints here. I'm stock, rooted, and xposed using greenify.
Im not complaining too, I just get used to it, battery sux on every 2015 flagship comapre to 2014 and 2016 flagships.

I've been using the phone for the last 6 months and I'm going to change it ONLY because of the poor battery life. A 5,7" QHD LED display + SD 808 + Moto Display and a relatively small 3000 mah battery isn't a good pack if the goal is to give a decent battery life.
Ironically Lenovo somehow managed to make a SD 820 based device (Moto z) that also has a bad battery life using a small battery. If was enough do do a new X Style with amoled, SD 820 and a 3500 mah battery, but apparently it is too difficult for them.
I had my first Pure for almost a year before I had to do an RMA due to some hardware issues. When I got the replacement a couple months ago, it really highlighted how much the battery in the original had deteriorated over 10-11 months.
Granted, some of the decline was probably due to software reasons, cache building up, more apps installed, etc. But man, the move towards unibody designs and sealed batteries by Android OEMs a few years ago is one of the worst things to happen in the mobile industry. Even if you only keep your device for a year, battery life drops precipitously over that time -- nevermind, god forbid, two or three years.
I'm fairly content with the battery life on my new MXPE for now. It's not stellar for the size of the phone, but in absolute terms, it's decent enough.

Honestly, the battery probably deteriorates the most due to Quick Charge 2.0, it is much tougher on batteries than Quick Charge 3.0, and I probably charge mine 80% of the time with a standard charger and the rest with a quick charger... I highly recommend using a standard charger whenever possible. This is not device specific, a lot of QC2.0 devices suffer from quick battery failure, not just quick charging.
I've never heard so much bs, I get on average 5h sot which for a 3000mah battery is below average, it's the high res screen that's draining, like someone said before if it was an amoled screen I'd be looking at 6-7h sot but turbo charging helps a lot oh and doesn't deteriorate the battery at all, lmfao keep using your standard charger but also wrap tin foil round your head.

I agree 100% with this! I wish I had started using the regular charger sooner. Now I have a Z Force also and while it doesn't have the form factor and front speakers of the MXPE, it's superior otherwise.
I get around two days with 3,5-4h sot or one day with ~4,5h of sot. Imo it's not that bad for such a big phone.
