Phone won't send (but can receive) MMS - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hey all. I've had my Galaxy S4 for about a year now, and I've installed a plethora of custom roms. I'm currently running stock touchwiz on my device. I've noticed that my device can receive but not send MMS message. This has been an ongoing problem for several months and I haven't been able to figure it out. Before I switched to stock 4.4.2, I couldn't even get MMS messages, and today my co-worker sent me a successful MMS. But I still can't send them. I don't have an APN settings option in my settings, so I updated my profile etc. through my Sprint Zone app. I'm completely lost and have noooo idea how to get my MMS messages to send. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey bryguy9021, thanks for the reply. I tried opening voice dialer and speaking APN but received an error that says "I have no specific answers for that. Let me do a search for an answer to apn". I tried speaking "Open APN settings" and it simply took me to my connections menu. But there is still no option for APN.

I've been having this same issue for a LONG time now. I've read a lot of cures, I ended up messing with my APNs manually and got things REALLY cocked up. I heard that 8sms would work better than the default messaging app and have been using that, but I still can't send MMS messages. I've pretty much given up at this point.

Can anyone with T-Mobile in the US send MMS messages on an HD?

I just switched to the even more plus plan, and now can no longer send MMS messages or e-mails. I can receive them though, and I do have Internet access too. I can also send SMS messages too. It's just MMS and e-mail I can not send. The MMS messages send status go from 0% to 99% and then I get an generic error.
I tried several ROMS from the standard shipping ROM to a 6.5/Sense 2.5, and none worked. I upgraded my radio too and that did not help.
I called T-mobile, but so far they have been little help. The said they keep seeing errors and clearing them, but still no luck.

Thank you, thank out!
The T-Mobile settings always start as epc.tmobile.com. That doesn't seems to work and changing them to wap.voicestream.com as you said fixes it.
My real problem was that I was not (under settings...connections)...
...going to advanced (tab at bottom)
...then select networks button (box)
...and then switch to T-Mobile MMS on the drop down menu.
I was just changing T-mobile Data only and missed the drop down box and MMS.
I also may not have restarted, but it is working now!
I am now off to try the other suggestion so that I do not have teeny tiny thumbnails in my MMS messages.

[Q] Played with network options... No texts anymore

Hi,
I have a Samsung Vibrant. As I'm in Australia, I was playing around trying to connect to another frequency via *#*#4636#*#* > Phone information. I set it to AUS and backed out (pretty sure that's all I did). Then I couldn't send any texts .... at all. Failed.
I switched back to Automatic frequency - no difference....
I have re-falshed the OS with Odin, both with the most recent 2.1 release and also with one that is supplied on the xda post "OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images" (I'm not allowed to post links) (I've still got this one installed right now). Both made absolutely no difference.
I deleted all user data... no difference.
Now I have a stock phone entirely, that will not send any text messages.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Andrew
I've noticed that SMSC is blank - I tried to set it to the right number: +61411990001, but it just returns 'update error'. So I tried 0411990001. It didn't 'do' anything, but didn't return an error. It disappeared when I backed out and came back in. it didn't fix the problem.
Is there a trick to updating the SMSC that I've missed? It seems likely to be the error??
there is also no information in 'Your Phone number', and I recall that the default way to access voicemail never worked because of 'no voicemail number on the sim card'...... does this all add up to my sim card not having the correct default information? Is there a way to fix this?
....help

Here are a few tips:
1 in mobile settings click apn and make sure there is a green circle on thee right of the name for your apn. If not just tap on the circle once and out should turn green.
2 in mobile settings, click automatic network discovery then try step 1 again
3 open mms app, press menu and go to settings. Make sure auto retrieve is checked.
Let me know if this works or not.

@crazy25000: Thanks heaps, that led me in the right direction to correct the texting issue. I had no apn at all - no options and had to add it manually. I'm not sure that it worked, but perhaps. I did get to the right settings menu to fix the smsc number though, which is great.
I still feel like my sim card is not quite right - there seems to be no default data for the carrier on the sim.
Immediate problem solved though. thanks again.
i have done the same thing while fiddling with my vibrant. sms wont send because the gateway # is blank . what i did was pop it in a friends iphone and type **5005*7672*61411990001#
(61411990001 is optus smsc # yours may be different)
then i put it back in my vibrant and viola!
altho i still cant send or recieve mms..

Glad to great it's slowly getting resolved. If you don't have an apn, click on automatic network discovery in mobile settings and it will automatically generate the correct apn for your carrier. Keep me posted because this it's relatively easy to resolve so don't stress

[Q] Can't send pictures by text message

I did a search, but found no answers. I can receive text messages with pictures just fine, but if I try to send them, I get the "failed after several attempts" and the message just sits there with the envelope and clock icon in the upper right corner. I tried through the default messaging app, and through ChompSMS. Is anyone else having a problem sending pictures through text messages?
You need to find your carriers APN settings and enter them correctly in the phones settings:
Settings > Wireless & networks > mobile networks > Access Point Name

Thanks for replying. I'll try that. I did check the settings, and there is a default one there with no mms info. I checked my nexus one, and I don't have any apn settings at all, but mms works. Do you think if I delete the one that's there it would work by auto detecting setting? Maybe that's why my n1 works, and my DHD doesn't?
Delete ALL APN's on your DHD and then re-add them manually, then you can be 100% sure they're all correct, if it still doesn't work then contact your carrier and see what's going on.
SOLVED!
WOW! It took me six hours, but I figured it out. I tried so many things I can't even remember. Deleted all, add three at once, modified things. The end result was still no sending of MMS. My last try I reset everything back to default, and I was checking all fields, and noticed the "MMSC" field said "null". Well from looking over so many different configurations I noticed almost all of them showed the MMSC had "mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc", so out of desperation I changed "null" to that, and BOOM, it worked. I now have all things working like they should. Thanks for your help.
( glad you sorted it.

[Q] No Mms from Iphones only

OK guys I have the n4 on T-Mobile and I can not receive MMS from iphones only. I can get SMS from iPhone. I can get MMS from any other phone. I've tried iPhones from 3 carriers and I can't receive MMS from any of them. I have changed my APN settings several times to match others configurations but nothing has worked. I have created a new apn etc...I have tried go SMS,hand cent, and chomp.I know I cannot be alone on this matter ,I just don't think many people have realized it yet. Any help is much appreciated.

I have AT&T and my partner has an iPhone 4S and I can get MMS from her. So it is possible, to get it to work. Are you using Google Voice? if so this maybe the issue. In Google Voice set it so text messages are received via the messaging app. Or disable Google Voice entirely and see if that fixes it.
What plan on you on with tmobile? Pre-paid or monthly? And what APN settings have you tried? Check this out:
http://johnlieske.com/2012/11/21/some-t-mobile-nexus-4-tweaks/
I uninstalled Google voice completely and still a no go. I'm on the prepaid unlimited plan with 5gb of data (70$)..I've tried those settings you referred me to but for some reason little baby phone doesn't play nicely with the n4.
I am also on T-Mobile and I cannot receive MMS from iPhone users. Any other phone works just fine.

I'm pretty sure I had the same issue, and I'm also on T mobile, what I had to do was turn auto retrieve MMS off, in the stock messaging apps settings, as well as make sure APN was set to those shown in attached picture

Success, That did it for me...I think unchecking the auto retrieve maybe what's behind it . I've tried the other settings before without unchecking the auto retrieve and it didn't work . But nevertheless thanks a lot

Unable to send mms in any app on Koodo(canada)

Hey everyone.
For weeks now I have been having an issue with sending mms to anyone, nor can I receive. Im on the Koodo network here in Canada. I have made sure that my apn settings were correct. I mainly use GoSMS and when I select the image, type a message and hit send it just disappears. No sending arrow icon not even the picture itself.
I have also tried in the stock messaging app. But when try the same task, it actually crashes. My gf has a nexus 5 and she is on the Bell network and having the same issues.
Im not really sure what steps to take next. Any help would be great. Thanks.
Try Sliding Messages. It allows you to set APN in the app.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Yes so does gosms. Not sure apn is the issue as it seems like it can't even attempt to send.
