[Q] Broken digitizer, need to enable USB debugging..image with ADB enabled?

Digitizer is broken, but I can see the screen. I need to enable debugging but I have absolutely no touch response.
I know that debugging is enabled in a custom recovery but I need it to be enabled on the os level. Is there a ROM that has USB debugging enabled by default? A backup image of a stock image with usb debugging enable would work too. (I am not trying to enable MTP or pull data, I am trying to establish adb and lunch a program with os running"
I have tried enabling it via terminal in recovery but its not working; I can't seem to find the path to change the value.

I actually have the same exact issue. The screen is smashed to hell, but it still turns on and off. I still get calls, texts, and all other notifications...but the touch screen is totally unresponsive and I can't get to my files through my computer because I can't unlock the phone. If there's anyway around this, I'd much appreciate the help too.

well your problem is easy...well easier.
unlock the bootloader flash a custom recovery (cwm) you can enable SD card via the recovery and move your files using MTP. search the forum for "how-tos"

I actually stumbled upon this but only saw the first part. and had the same problem where the value would not stick. Didn't see the second part; will try. Still, a rom that has debugging enabled would be ideal and is originally what I asked for in the op. Nevertheless, thank you.

Sorry for dredging up a dead post from ages long forgotten, but I was hoping to find some semblance of help here.
I am fully aware of the fact that this is for the Nexus 4, but I'm optimistic in my approach to find answers regarding the absolutely decimated screen and digitizer of my (otherwise undamaged) AT&T Exhilarate (i577) android.
It'll be about a week before I can get in to get them replaced, so I was hoping to at least read the texts that I've since received or scavenge my contacts via [email protected] due to situational intensity ((family member health issues)My Google account does not hold this information), and I've followed all of the setup walk through found here: droid-at-screen.ribomation..com/installation/
My issue now is that I cannot load my device from the [email protected] application, presumably caused by a severe lack of USB debugging enabling.
My phone is not rooted or modded in the least.
Is there any hope for me?

I was in the same situation with a HTC Sensation.
I had to S-OFF to get superCID and get the screen calibration to work.
But juopunutbear required to be in normal mode and ADB enabled. I finally get it working by installing CWM recovery, which has ADB, and enable the adb debugging.

(if the following two commands show error "file doesn't exist", don't worry, it's ok!)
rm /data/property/persist.service.adb.enable
rm /data/property/persist.sys.usb.config

If the sqlite3 command shows error (command not found) then your phone doesn't have sqlite3 installed.
Still, you can do it!
First extract settings.db:
adb pull /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db

Copy that file to a usb drive or whatever.
Now you need linux. It's ok to use a live Ubuntu DVD, but you need to be connected to internet.

I recommend to use the 32bit version for compatibility.
Usually sqlite3 is not installed by default.
In ubuntu:
sudo apt-get install sqlite3

You will be asked for the root password!
Now we can edit the settings.db:
sudo sqlite3 /path_to_your_folder/settings.db
update global set value='1' where name='adb_enabled';
update global set value='1' where name='development_settings_enabled';

Now we have the settings.db changed and ready!
Copy that settings.db again to a pen drive or whatever, go back to windows or keep in linux if you already have a working ADB.

adb shell "chmod 644 /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db"

Done! ADB should work when in starts.
I had to use "mass_storage,adb" because "mtp,adb" or just "adb" didn't work. Thought, the phone was not working in mass storage, but who cares! ADB was!

thanks @dabyd64 , i was in a similar situation of dealing with an htc evita, basically a corrupted rom made the display useless, so had to enable debugging via recovery, I used twrp. And its enabled now.

Wow, I'm working with something old... My old Nexus 7 2013 is having touch screen problems so I tried the sqlite3 option. The commands executed fine but now I'm in a boot loop. It's been booting for twenty minutes. Any advice?

[Q] Nexus 4 screen cracked, need someone fluent with ADB to help

So that's it, my Nexus 4's front glass is broken to where I can only use half the screen. I want to unlock this thing and use ShareKM (Lets me use my mouse and keyboard from my computer on my phone) and Airdroid too I guess. The reason I need help is I can't type in my PIN to unlock the phone and even if I could, I doubt I'd be able to navigate to either ShareKM or Airdroid to start them up. Is there any adb command or otherwise to forward the pin to my phone through usb and then a command to start up the apps? I just wanna be able to use it and get some stuff off before I send it in to be repaired. Thanks in advance.

Not sure about unlocking the pin through adb, but you could use adb pull to copy the files that you need off the phone.

This will only work if your phone is rooted and I hope you enabled usb debugging and unknown sources, otherwise I don't know what to do...
If you will have passed the lockscreen, you should be able to install ShareKM and Airdroid via ADB (if you have the .apk). But I don't know if it's possible to activate ShareKM without using the touchscreen.
But just to get your data off your phone, simply use

then you have a backup of your music/photos/etc

Use adb while in recovery mode. Twrp supports that. Pull the sdcard like the above post suggests.

VS980 root troubles

Hey guys ive been pretty stoked to root and rom my g2 now that im bored of LG's UI haha i have been trying to use the IOroot method but something about the drivers is giving me such a hard time! i installed them but every time i open a command window and type in "adb devices" nothing is coming up so obviously its not being able to read my device which isnt alowing me to root my phone any help would be greatly appriciated! thanks in advance

adb is a special android thing. You need to install it to just use it anywhere. Do this:
1. Create a folder on your desktop (you can call it root or whatever you want).
2. Extract IORoot into folder created in step one.
3. SHIFT RIGHT CLICK and do "open command window here" (This is the most important).
4. type

5. if you devices shows run the root.bat file to root your device.

IVe done this so many times haha... the problem is when i type that into the command window nothing comes up under listed devices and ive downloaded and installed the drivers from several different locations including the LG website... could it be the ethernet thing that im missing? because thats the only thing i dont believe ive done cause this is a hastle xD ive had no problems rooting in the past

This is just a thought, but maybe, power the phone off, power the PC off. Turn them both back on, re-read the instructions on how to root the phone. It sort of sounds like you could be missing just a little thing on the instructions. You may also try a different USB port on your PC too. I rooted mine back on iRoot 6 so I would have to think that iRoot 10 should be better then what I used.

I just dont think im installing the drivers right because ive tried everyone and their mothers usb ports and ive tired it on 4-5 computers there has to be something im missing with the drivers because the process just wont start Daemon will succsesfully start running than nothing...

It has been a while sense I rooted mine, but I think the fix for me was getting the drivers from the LG Site and using the LG Flash tool.

I had the same issue. I installed these lg drivers, not sure if they had anything to do with it because it still didn't work. What finally worked was when I turned off debug and may have been in mtp connection. Obviously after you have to put back in debug and ethernet connection to follow the ioroot method.

alright one more question and thanks for the fast replies guys! i appriciate it but im not to nifty with computer tech as i am Smartphone xD laptops still have an ethernet mode correct? and if so where do i go to enable it?

Ethernet mode is in enabled in your phone. Settings > scroll to bottom "pc connection."

Run it directly from local drive root. IE C:/ Windows 7? Control alt delete. End the stale adb process, you should see two, one not performing sitting around 2000 kb ram and the other using ram. End that and it should force adb to kick in. I had to do this on win 7 multiple times with dif phones. It's like it locks up when finding the com port or whatever the hell it's doing. I take no blame if you screw up your device this way. I have resorted to a virtual xp for all my phone needs as not everything works in Linux.

Unzipped IORoot to root of my hard drive
Plugged in phone with usb (make sure debug mode is enabled). When prompted to choose connection, choose modem. You should see debug icon appear in status bar. If not, choose Ethernet.
Opened IORoot folder. Hold down shift and right click an empty area and choose 'open command window'
Type adb devices. If device shows up, proceed. With normal root procedure.

Not sure if it matters but I am running 64 bit Windows 8
- In the instructions didn't you have to change a setting for the Com Port to get it to see the phone??
- Did you ever get the prompt on your phone to accept the Connection. I can not remember what it was, but it only comes up once, and I am not referring to the USB connection IE Ethernet??
- Are you sure you have Developer Options turned on?? The step where you keep tapping on the Developer thing and then the phone finally gives you the Developer Options??

[Q] Need help authorizing adb on my s4

Howdy all!
Recently I dropped my phone, and I want to get the nandroid on my phone so I can put it on a backup s4 I have. I was trying to do this through adb, but when I put in "adb devices" into cmd, I get the device label, followed by an unauthorized. I can't see anything on my screen, as the LCD is broken, and so is the touch screen. Is there a way I can get it authorized? I'm sure the phone was in debugging mode because I used it to tether 3g to my laptop through pdanet.

Can you just do it through your computer's file explorer? Depending on which version of android is installed on your device, computers may need to be verified as a "trusted" device before the system will accept any commands. Without this you may be SOL.

Need to bypass lockscreen/gain access to adb - Broken screen

So I have a bit of an issue. Somehow last night, after trying to help my parents with our home theater system, with the device laying on a soft surface, the LCD (not the glass) somehow broke. I am really not sure how this happened, the phone itself didn't fall, it was laying on a bed the entire time. When I went to grab the phone and turn it on, I was pretty surprised. You can see what I mean in the attached file.
Now the problem with this is, while I would normally just walk into the Sprint Store, complain and get a new phone. I am not in the US for another 5 months. In the mean time of trying to figure out what to do, I would like to at the very least, grab any files off my phone, or back up my phones' file structure.
I am able to do a minimal amount of tapping on the phone, only on the upper half of the screen, but I can't see anything, nor does the device respond with any touch data from the bottom half.
I obviously can't access the files if the device is locked, which means I have to bypass the lock screen. I found this guide, but unfrotunately, Method 1 didn't work, and I can't get adb to recognize my phone for Method 2.
I also have tried using CWM (the non-touch version) to backup my data, but I let it sit there for 45 minutes and I couldn't tell if it was finished or not. It didn't appear to actually be doing anything.
Could someone help me navigate around this or provide some assistance in allowing me to just get the files off the phone while I search for a new one?
With that being said, does anyone have some recommendations? I was thinking of getting a Motorola X or Nexus 5.
EDIT: Update:
I have access to terminal via Cerberus shell. I was able to use Method 2 to disable the lock screen (or in this case set it to Swipe). It is still pretty difficult to use the phone but I can at least backup whatever data I still do have on the phone to my laptop.
Would anyone be able to give me some advice as to uninstall applications or XDA xposed modules via shell? Or perform a backup or enable ADB debugging?

You've conntected to your PC at least once so that the ADB has permission, correct? If so, you can get http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2786395 to get Android Control and view/Control your phone via USB. You need to have Java installed, which most have already. Been controlling my cracked LCD for the past week while waiting for my replacement.
Keep in mind this method is a little slow because of ADB. Hopefully you don't have to type too much.

I know I have connected it at least once, but when connecting the phone and the pc together, adb cannot find the phone. I am not sure if this is because of a Cerberus setting (that disables debugging) or something else. I will give it another shot when I get home.
If I can't, is there any way for me to somehow accept the adb permissions on the phone via a command versus touching the screen? Say if I have shell access over Cerberus and adb access from my PC?

There's a bit of work to push the ADB acceptance key if you have a spare android phone lying around. Other than that, there probably is but might be more of a headache. I took the ADB key for my desktop from another android and pushed it in through TWRP which accepts ADB commands while in Recovery.

I have a sony xperia P that I am using right now until the replacement phone I got arrives. Any idea how I could use that? I have had minimal success with the phone so far in trying to get that phone to flash custom recoveries, to root the device (not sure why, but my laptop just doesn't want to seem to do it, even using automated tools).
Is it better to just wait for the replacement phone to arrive and grab what I need from that and push it? Could you link me to any guide or steps that you used with yours?

Flashing TWRP and booting into recovery with command prompt open and running adb devices / fastboot devices does not show any devices available.
Is there a specific menu setting or other option I need to use to be able to run adb?

When you use TWRP, the phone will be recognized by the PC but the driver doesn't install correctly off the bat. Go to Device Manager and look for your phone. You may need to click the View -> Show Hidden Devices option. Update the driver manually by selecting the one provided by your manufacturer. Some have a dedicated ADB driver for specific functions (bootloader, etc).
The adb key is stored in data/misc/adb/adb.keys -You can pull this file from any other android connected to that PC (or just copy it if you have a root explorer) and push it to the broken one if necessary. This will bypass any ADB authorization issues while the phone is fully booted and let you see the screen.
