[Q] GT-i9505 cyanogenmod 11.0 DRM issue - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I'm pretty new to "posting an android issue on a forum". I have tried finding out how to do it properly, but not sure if i succeeded in doing just that...
Anyway, here is my go at it:
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505
OS: Cyanogenmod 11.0 (XNPQ32P)
Baseband version I9505XXUFNB9
Kernel: 3.4.0-cyanogenmod-g433243c [email protected] #1
Tue Aug 5 22:51 PDT 2014
Issue:
I have a "local" app called "TV Overalt" (in english that would be "TV everywhere") that is dependent on my STB-subscription. It lets one view TV streamed on the phone while on the same network as the TV STB. When trying to open a TV channel stream on the galaxy s4 I get an error message that sound like "com.latens.drmManager.api.exceptions.TiDrmClientInitFailureException: Failed to initialize DRM Client". I guess this is due to the fact that the phone is rooted, but is there any way of having this work (with a custom ROM)? Netflix and other DRM related apps do work.
Is there any way to extract a .log file for this error without using a command window on the pc?
Issue#2:
Mostly all of my apps do work, with the exception of the Facebook app (stops on "setting up Facebook..."), Spotify (stops on logging in)
How (and maybe where) do I go about to make a proper error report...
Thanks,
DrE

You should look for the specific thread for your ROM and device. Its probably under the 9505 Development or 9505 original development section. Check the first post on the thread if there is any recommendation for what is necessary to report a bug. Also check if there is more than one thread, one only for discussion and other only for bug report. Since you don't have any log from the error, I recommend you to post over the discussion thread. Finally, it could be apps fault. And not caused by the ROM.

Sailfish for Android devices release!

Hello guys,
I just got an awesome e-mail from Jolla. I think they don't mind posting it here for everyone interested to see, it even mentioned this forum. If anyone feels I'm sharing confidential stuff, please PM me
Here it is:
Dear early adopter of SailfishOS for Android devices.
We're kicking off today by publishing the first Early Adopter Release of SailfishOS (1.0.4.20) for Nexus 4 (mako) to early adopters. Please make sure to read this whole e-mail through.
Later we'll be publishing images for Samsung Galaxy S III LTE (i9305) and we'll be delivering updated images as we go along for each device as hardware support improves. This is just the beginning.
We are also working on the SailfishOS hardware adaptation development kit, which describes how to port SailfishOS to existing CyanogenMod 10.1 devices. Later versions of CM will be supported eventually. We'll publish the HADK in the next few weeks if everything goes well.
This installation image is for early adopters only, meaning we know that some things are not functional or perhaps even broken -- please see release notes below. We think it's worth sharing already now to get all of you properly included in the early stages of the project.
We want to build a community around SailfishOS for Android devices that is based on mutual trust and respect for what we are all doing. Hence -- we ask that whenever you do screenshots, videos, forum or blog posts (and we're happy if you do!) or the like, you emphasise that this is an under-development snapshot and not a final product release.
It is important for Jolla that the correct expectations are set for those who might be users of the final product -- and that they understand what they see is not a released product.
WARNING: Modifying or replacing your device’s software may void your device’s warranty, lead to data loss, hearing loss, hair loss, financial loss, privacy loss, security breaches, or other damage, and therefore must be done entirely at your own risk. No one affiliated with this project is responsible for your actions but yourself. Good luck.
NOTE: You will lose your on-device data, so make a proper backup.
To install this release of SailfishOS on a Nexus 4 device:
* Install adb and fastboot
a. Debian/Ubuntu: apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
b. Fedora: yum install android-tools
c. Mac OS X: Install Homebrew from http://brew.sh/, then: brew install android-platform-tools
d. Windows: See http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_fastboot_intro for instructions
* Install Android 4.2.2 (JDQ39) to your Nexus 4
a. Instructions here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#instructions
b. Download links can be found here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#occamjdq39
* Download CyanogenMod 10.1.3 for your Nexus 4
a. The file you want to download is cm-10.1.3-mako.zip
b. Download links can be found here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_mako
* Download the SailfishOS for Android image for "mako"
a. The file you want to download is http://releases.sailfishos.org/sfa-ea/sailfishos-mako-release-1.0.4.20-EA1.zip
* Install CyanogenMod 10.1.3 on your Nexus 4
a. Follow the instructions at: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_mako
* After flashing the "cm-10.1.3-mako.zip" file, flash the SailfishOS .zip file in the same way ("on top of it")
* Reboot bootloader, SailfishOS should boot and be visible
We can recommend reading through http://jolla.com/guide/ -- some parts may not apply to Nexus 4
If you want to go back to normal CyanogenMod:
a. Boot into recovery mode
b. Choose "Wipe data / factory reset"
c. Flash cm-10.1.3-mako.zip
d. (to go back to SailfishOS, flash the SailfishOS .zip on top of it)
To SSH into your device via USB (Linux)
1. Enable remote connection in Settings->System->Developer mode
2. Set your USB interface on host machine to IP 192.168.2.2
3. ssh [email protected]
4. Use the password from developer mode to log in
5. Use the 'devel-su' command with the same password in order to gain root
6. To SSH over WLAN, use IP listed in developer mode under "WLAN IP address"
Release notes and Known issues for Early Adopter Release 1 for mako/Nexus 4:
* We have a subtle watermark underneath the UI at all times stating "SailfishOS development software" "This is not production quality". Developer mode is activated at all times.
* Modem and related functionality works, 3G data, SMS but no call audio (comes in next release). There has been no throughout testing of telephony related functionality (roaming, airplane mode, data counters, etc) and any use of this functionality is at your own risk.
* Sensors, Device clock/alarms, Reset device, Bluetooth, USB control + MTP, Bluetooth, WLAN hotspot, Camera (photography, video recording), and video playback is not supported in this release.
* Jolla account / Store is removed from the image due to problems with registering with Jolla infrastructure.
* The image SW is not currently upgradeable, nor is any typically licensed multimedia codecs (MP3, etc), HERE maps, Android application compatibility layer, or word prediction for virtual keyboard preinstalled.
* After returning from suspend, UI may be slow for a moment. It is not possible to double-tap to wake up the device. Power button may fail to wake device at times, check if you are covering the proximity sensor. Powering off device puts it into a state of deep slumber; possible to get out of by holding power button and volume down key with a bit of persistence.
* Fingerterm applications may fail to launch during first attempts.
* FPS drop while scrolling in homescreen due to non-batching when rendering of application icon grid
* Icons/graphics appear unproportionally small in browser toolbar, time select widget, and Settings favourite icons
* Multiboot / multirom is not supported currently
We will all meet in #sailfishos on irc.freenode.net and please use us (thp, alterego, Stskeeps, lbt, sledges) to work together, report any bugs, graphical glitches or missing functionality that you find, which are not included in the release notes above. You can also find the hardware adaptation source code at http://github.com/mer-hybris .
You are also welcome to participate in threads at http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general about Nexus 4 and SailfishOS as well as for more general SailfishOS topics at http://forum.xda-developers.com/jolla-sailfish/general

Can't we just flash CM 10.1 instead of flashing the 4.2.2 factory images?

no you should't, because the images also contain radios and those are needed that sailfish works properly on the nexus 4

Check the settings , its quite tricky
And where there?
If I enable mobile data in the settings I just geht an error popin on the top. "problems with data connection" vor something similar.
I had no problem with 4.2 radio with T-Mobile in the US. No settings changed.

Thats a great news, lets hope thay make it available for the S4 soon.
I finally had some time to look into the problem.
Sailfish had the wrong APN
Edit:
After two hours playing with Sailfish, I can say that the Sailfish feels nice and it seems quite stable.
No comparison to the very buggy Ubuntu.
Once camera and bluetooth works, and we get a chance to at least buy AlienDalvik on their app store, this could become my main OS.
are there mako drivers or config files in the sailfish zip ?
can this sailfish zip be installed on nexus 7 grouper?
or does it has to be build specific for grouper?

I think you can try it safely, it shouldn't brick anything as it's loaded from the kernel. but I think it will not work. They mention some help in porting soon and I'm waiting for that.

Just flashed cm10.1.3 and SailfishOS from another custom rom 4.4.2...Everythink should work, works. No problem with SMS, GSM data and OS is very smoothly... Perhaps WLAN?
EDIT: After some tests, radio from factory image 4.2.2 is necessary for WLAN and sound
are the updates for this rom going to be nightly or weekly??
and can anyone please pm me when theres an update??
thanks

Same, I would try and force the nexus 4 version to work on the n5, as that is basically how the HADK is going to work, but haven't got time for it yet, I also intend to make an app that copies over SMS and WhatsApp messages between sailfish and android roms, but 1. Don't know if its possible, and 2. No time, due to exam revision.

Multi-tasking
Pressing and holding down the hard menu button (using SGS4 I9505) launches Google Now instead of what I would have expected to be the app switcher as is typical in CM11 and other similar ROMS.
Is there any method of app switching in this ROM? Even the Nexus devices have this ability.
Thanks.
I am pretty sure its the GE, i tried the aosp one and the phone stuck at google logo at the start.
Minimum brightness value
Hello everyone,
I have installed this ROM and noticed that the minimum brightness (backlight) value is set to 40.
Via ES File Explorer I edited /sys/class/LEDs/LCD backlight/brightness to value 5 and I successfully saved but when I increase the brightness in settings --> display --> brightness and then I decrease it back to the minimum level, the setting in /sys/class/LEDs/LCD backlight/brightness goes back to 40.
Are there any solutions to set this value (or another one that does what I need) in a permanent way without using applications such as root dim ? Thank you so much!
OTA support and other questions.

I wish to install this rom on my GS4 but I was wondering whether this has OTA updates. I would also want to know if it works on At&t l337 model. Thanks.

Google Welcome Screen Loop
Hi,
I just installed this ROM on my S4 I9505 through a custom recovery.
I wiped the cache and data before I installed the ROM.
I am getting a google welcome screen, nothing happens and only 4 circle dots keeps looping?
Is this normal, or have I done something wrong?
Also it will not boot into recovery anymore
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hey, I've been running this Rom perfectly for a few months now, I just recently changed my build prop file to imitate the nexus 5 in order to get Gravity movie free from play store. The editor I used failed to save a backup and now I can't remember what the below settings needs to be changed back to. Can someone please provide these values for me.

Wireless Charging
Hi there, i was wondering if Jamal could answer my question.
Does wireless charging work on your ROM if so i would love to know the answer.
No Play Store, Gallery/Camera, or Chrome
Some help would be appreciated...
I've been playing around with this ROM for a few hours now and cannot get the play store, camera, or gallery to work. I'm sure the gallery and camera are connected, and I frankly don't even care as long as I can get the play store and chrome working.
My data is working fine, and so is gmail, drive etc. The only problems are with these apps. So, to try and solve the play store issue I've cleared cache, soft rebooted, reflashed ROM, and even installed the latest version. When I installed the latest version, it worked for about 2 seconds and then quit working again. Oh forgot to mention that when the phone boots it says "Google Play has Stopped Working" and the same thing happens when I start up chrome. Help would be much appreciated, I really love this ROM
Update: I've narrowed it down to an error with saving of some sort. I AM using Safestrap, should have clarified. Anyway, Chrome just doesn't load, and I have figured out that the play store works up until it tries to download something, and then it freaks out and closes. I managed to bypass this to a degree by loading apks to my google drive and downloading that way, and was able to get firefox running. Using firefox, I tried to download a file and got an error reading "/storage/emulated/0/Download/xyz.apk could not be saved, because an unknown error occurred. Try a different saving location" so yeah, I narrowed it down to an error with the save directory, just cannot figure out what is going on.
LTE connection cutting off
Hello,
I am using the 4.3 version of this rom, I have an annoying problem - my LTE connection is great, however whenever I make or receieve a phonecall my LTE connection switches off into a HSPDA connection and does not switch back to LTE after the phonecall is finished. How do I fix this? I have to keep switching on and off aeroplane mode to reset it into a LTE connection.

I don't like the original rom for my S4 and would like a clean room that give better battery life.
Thanks for your help.
Is everything working here
does every sensor form s4 works on this rom....
Just wondering can the app drawer icon on the home screen be changed, in something like xposed framework.
I don't want to use another launcher, I'd like to keep stock.
I'm going for a total black and white theme.

Testing radio issues
Hi to all,
I just tested radio issues on my phone. I was researching, why radio is not working.
Here are results, maybe it will help. Anyway, I have my GT-s7710 for testing and I can do some tests or catch some debug informations if needed.
It seems that problem why radio is not working is located in modem-supervisor process. In original firmware, this process is responsible for uploading firmware into dbx500 platform chip. But in CM, there is no such process.
I am not expert, but it seems to.
I tried to use old modem-supervisor process to make everything working.
Services line from original fw:
Code:
service modem-supervisor /system/bin/modem-supervisor -r -f /dev/dbx500_mloader_fw -i /sys/devices/platform/ab8500-i2c.0/chip_id -c monitor -t 0
but it needs to be changed because /sys/devices/platform/ab8500-i2c.0/chip_id changed to /sys/devices/platform/ab8505-i2c.0/chip_id
Problem is that firmware event for loading firmware is never generated and firmware is not uploaded.
I have some dumps and traces if you need them. Thank you for your work!

an idea
The 7580's phone hardware is almost identical to the 7710. The processor in the 7580-higher heights, but the hardware buttons and then there are all of the functions, but it has the 4.2.2 firmware, which allow moving to the SD card. Somehow it should possess to operate from 7710.
I'm Hungarian, sorry if the translation is wrong, happened with google.
Okay so I am having the same problem with HW buttons as many others before me...

So? There is no such responde on how to fix that..!

Thanks a lot!

I can't get Cyanogenmod 10.2 working. Everytime installation wipes my baseband.
When I install the Stock ROM SIM works again - but after flashing CM again also wipes baseband again.

No network available in Polish Play
I'm installing CM for my father in law on Samsung X Cover 2 and I'm facing problem with no available network.
I've tried CM 11 and CM 10.2 - both are running fast but both doesn't recognize any network operator.
CM11 has additional problem with hanging during shutdown.
I've found that Polish network Play has common problems with radio: like here
https://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod4milestone/issues/detail?id=510.
But even I'm putting T-Mobile sim card then still phone doesn't recognize (phone is coming from Play but it is unlocked).
When I restored Play stock ROM then it works.
Could anybody help in this?

Forget CM en try Vanir or MIUI these are more up2date. Also CM11 is alpa with camera bug:
First look at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/t/xcover-2
Vanir
Second, I use Vanir 4.4.4 daily. It has some bugs, but not some bugs that makes it unstable. Known issues:
Start/Stop navbar after every restart
Use this solution to fix connection errors after a fresh Flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60411469&postcount=612
Other small bugs:
2G/3G quick setting and normal settings dont work properly because of absence of LTE
Navigation Ring and immersive mode causes dead touch screen space
DSP manager doesn't work
After using Vanir 4.4.4 I never want to go back! It's that much faster, more free RAM en better battery performance. Because of the better RAM performance, you must kill apps more often else it will drain the battery quicker :silly:.
Best way to Flash with 4.4.4 is to first flash Clockworkmod through ODIN, then do the usual Full Wipe --> Wipe Cache --> Flash Rom --> Flash GAPPS. Here is a video of someone doing these things. P.S. in this video the process is speeded up also reboot can freeze the system (just remove battery after a couple of minutes)
Files
Vanir: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7agwkTbiz0pNHZMQlpudkR4NUU/view
GAPPS: https://mega.co.nz/#!kokjzJwT!eqmMam5r5N2kWvtmSMy4QnaHnxvoqhDtr_joSDU5anI
MIUI
Another option is MIUI (used on the the popular Chinese Xiaomo phones). Instead of the Vanir build, this build is still being maintained. But because it's based on Vanir it has most likely has the same bugs. Never tried it because I prefer stock Android.
2nd, the connection error fix for vanir could also work for CM (vanir uses stuff from CM).

Help me save my old Samsung Note3 (bought from UAE)

Hello Friends,
I have been hanging around for a while now. I tried my hand few times to update my Samsung note3, as Official service is not provided to phones bought from outside India. Sadly.
Current ROM that I flashed was in 2015. But it is unstable. It changed a lot on my phone,
like my model no now looks like - SM-G9250, (originally it was SM-N900) only.
Details of my phone are:
Android Version: 5.0.2
Baseband Version: N900XXUENG1
Kernel version: 3.4.39-5466072
Build Number: Aurora.Full-G9200.Port.No.4.2
Important: Phone is Samsung Note 3 (Exynos)
My question is simple:
Please help me find best / suitable ROM that my device can happily run. Without any Google Service Errors.
If possible, please point me towards instructions about what to do and how to do. Technically I am little confused seeing all the choices here in forum.
Thanks and Regards,
Praveer.
Come on Guys, Help me out. No one has any answer ?
Update fro my side
===============
I tried using [7.1.x|SM-N900| Unofficial LineageOS 14.1 (ha_3g)], I find myself in particular problem, after flashing ROM, GAPPS and SU binaries, the Google Music stops just when I begin to set up the phone (It happens when language is getting selected), upon going further, the "Google Play Services" stop when I am trying to setup the Google A/C, just after setting up wifi on my phone.
Actions taken so far:
===============
I have tried flashing ROM again and again (must be more than 10 times and counting), I have tried flashing ROM + GAPPS before flashing SU. I then tried ROM+SU and then GAPPS. I flashed ROM with GAPPS (Pico) too. The verisons of GAPPS used so far now are SUPER, STOCK & PICO.
Out of all combinations, Pico gives me least headace. But Google Play Service Framework should be same in all packages, right ? In either case, I am always greeted by "Google Music has stopped" just before I begin phone setup.
Plus I noticed when I did factory reset+cleaned internal storage+cache, I always get "E: Resource (front) -(fixed) failed to load" message in logs.
Do this error creating problems in flashing GAPPS ?
Also, Can some one please tell me what should be partitions on the phone (Samsung Note 3 (SM-N900)) Exynos based ? Maybe I have wrongly configured phone setup ! After all, I have tested so many ROMS over last 3-4 years, that I have forgotten the original partitions detail.
Regards,
PrankSter.
Hi there,
I will move your thread in the correct forum dedicated to Note 3 Q&A for more relevant answers.
Good luck
If you flashed a custom rom then logic says ask in that thread .
