Unlocking HTC Desire 816v (CDMA + GSM) - Desire 816 General

HTC Desire 816v is a CDMA + GSM dual sim phone where the first sim (CDMA) is locked. I was able to unlock the first sim as follows:
1. Rooting the device by following instructions (1 to 4) in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2775801.
2. Adding the property specified in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44255011&postcount=10.

Thanks for the info. I have the single sim version with Sprint's lovely locked down features. However, it is GSM capable. I've gotten it to access GSM capability with a different carrier sim, but I'm still stuck S-ON and invalid sim. I'll try just about anything to fix this issue.

i follow those steps too, i first ulock my htc bootloader, then rooted, then unlocked sim through adb shell. However, when ever i put a different sim i never got any signal just a message "Invalid UICC something something" I even purchase an unlocked code but this phone wont ask for unlock code. I would give anything to unlock this too and use in tmobile prepaid with their refarms 1900mhz, i could get 4g if i could make it accept sim. I have virgin mobile too. So can you make calls or tx with the your sim card from another carrier? did you change anything else?

I am able to add different carriers and make calls, use data, etc. Do a getprop and verify if the propery is indeed set after the reboot. Let me know what you find.

After a reboot, do a getprop persist.radio.simlock.enable and paste what you get.

I would chime in here, but I got carried away with my project. I had the gsm active, then I got the invalid sim message to go away. The sim in my phone isn't active with my live service. I have the service active on my old-old phone that doesn't have a nano sim and haven't switched it over. I was just testing the capabilities.
However, I had a WiFi problem that came up with a ROM change. Essentially, I should have addressed the problem before proceeding with anything else. I am in the middle of cleaning up my mess. I just don't want to share any invalid information. I'd rather ensure that I have a clean device and process. :fingers-crossed:
Note: I will mention that I did use the process to unlock more bands in a Qualcomm device using QPST tools.

Hi, Did you manage to get the "Invalid UICC" message to go away? I followed the same steps with a HTC Desire 816 Virgin mobile variant (unlocked the bootloader, rooted and changed the property through adb shell) and I still can't get the phone to work with a GSM sim. I purchased a unlock code as well but can't find any prompt where I can enter the code.
Thanks !

I followed these steps with a Virgin Mobile HTC Desire 816. But I can't get the phone to work with a GSM sim When I enter the SIM I get the message "Invalid SIM Card: 4G services are unavailable as the SIM/UICC is invalid"
Is there any way I can get this error to go away and unlock the phone?
Note:
Phone is still with S-On
In my country only GSM carriers are available.
Many Thanks!

Disable UICC
I dont have an HTC 816 anymore yeah got impatient and just bought a optimus g pro and sold the HTC desire 816. However, i became more knowleadge ever since. For those who already unlocked their HTC Bootloader and Have rooted their cellphone but are getting the "invalid UICC" message please try this.
Download any Build prop editor from the play store. Look for the settings on "UICC.Mobile_equipment.config". Open it and you should see 1 or 2 fields, "property value" and "default values" write the numbers down or take a picture so that you can revert this process in case necessary. This where virging mobile lock the cellphone to the sim/UICC thats in your cellphone. change those to 0 and restart your cellphone. im pretty sure the phone should not give you that message and should accept the sim card you enter or ask you for an unlocked code.
In the worst, it will fail and you would just have to re enter the original property values. I notice all my other cellphones have these property values to 0 ( which means disable or none set) but all of virgins have somthings else
Try and let me know how this works for you.

hi. i do also have the virgin mobile version of the 816. i downloaded the build prop editor and went in. but the i cant seems to find UICC.Mobile_equipment.config. any help

sorry i dont own an htc desire 816 any more. However, this is where you would disable that stupid UICC security but Virgin Mobile are jerks like that and probably remove that option. Was worth taking a shot to see if it was there since all other android cellphones with sim cards have that option. Virgin Mobile will start unlockin some cellphone's starting February 2015. So were not that far from that date. Lets wait and see.

Thank for info

The radio frequency thing had already screwed my first sim network. I accidently clicked on USA band & from then, my 1 sim slot is not detecting network & there is no option to revert back the frequency.
Can't flash radio also as we are S-ON.

@jithumon..
I cant really help you much because this thread is focused on Virgin Mobile 816 with one sim slot only.
Have you tried changing the preference setting to gsm only then change the frequencies.. I have the American version 816 desire which is a bit different from yours . And yes once we figure out how to get S-off will be golden. :good:

Progress on Desire 816 Unlocking?
Any progress on unlocking the Desire 816 to use on GSM?
I've seen varying info on the bands available, is there any chance it will work on T-Mobile, on LTE?
This would be a great phone to use on GSM, as it costs less than $200 new, which is great for a phone with a large screen, stereo speakers, and two high megapixel cameras.

I would like to know too; but since the SIM slot in the vm version is only for lte, it could be tricky. If you remove the SIM, the phone still works fine, but no 4g/lte. CDMA is tricky...

System Updates Questions

I just purchased a unlocked my touch 3g ( I believe Magic) no slide.
At times my phone asks me to do a update.
When I look at what the update is it shows "Android System Update 1.2...The system is required to install Android version 2.2.1 on your device."
My phone states my firmware version is 1.6
So my questions are:
Do I need to perform this update?
Will this update lock my phone again ?
This is my 1st android phone and truthfully I'm not real technical. I have been going around googling different thing to make mysel more familar with the phone and Android.
Any help woul sure be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Ok so 81 views and nobody knows.
Anybody have any idea what other sites out there may deal with this type of thing that they may be able to direct me to?

First off, you do not need to update if you don't want to. Second, I think the update will relock the phone, so I recommend not updating at all, unless you have a reliable method of unlocking again.

I appreciate the info
Ok there are two things:
1) Sim Lock.. if your phone is sim unlocked it will remain sim unlocked.. actually I don't think there is any documented way to re-sim lock the phone.
2) Root.. if your phone is rooted i recommend installing a rooted version of the upgrade if you desire to upgrade.. otherwise the upgrade will either unroot the phone or fail because the phone is currently rooted (possibly causing it not to boot into android until you restore a good firmware)
Remember the sim lock is different from root.. and you can be rooted but sim-locked... or sim-unlocked but not rooted.. the simlock is just the tie in to the carrier and part of the Radio.. not part of the android firmware. Further its in a special radio settings region that is not flashed when you change the phone's radio.
So if you have the stock un-rooted/un-modified firmware and wish to update feel free.. just note you may want to back up what you can first.. some people have had problems with the update going slow until they factory reset after the update..
ezterry,
Thanks for the info.
Truthfully I'm unsure about many things on this phone.
I purchased this phone off Ebay as a unlocked only phone.
When I received the phone I just popped in my sim-set up the phone and was done.
At this point though I'm not even sure its unlocked because it is a T=Mobile phone and my service is myfamily mobile, which is just T-Mobile sold at Walmart.
I put in a sim card from my neighbors AT &T and it asked me for a pin #.
I skipped putting in a pin and the phone opened up but said no service. With that I am just assuming it is truly unlocked.
Am I correct?
Um.. if it asked for an unlock code its locked.. if it was sold unlocked and showing the code you ought to have been provided the code by the seller.
Pin usually just means the owner of the sim locked put a pin on the sim to prevent it from its data/service being accessed by others. (The sims owner ought to know the pin) This pin needs to be entered into any phone the sim is put in.
As soon as I find another person with a different sim card I am going to try it again.
I do think it was a pin # that was asked.
Unfortunately the owner did not provide any sort of code when I purchased.
Its my understanding, and I may be wrong, that you can purchase unlocked phones new,and if so I'm not sure weather or not codes are provided for new phones.
This is all very new to me so I am not sure.

If a HTC Dream/Sapphire was sim locked at the factory you must put in a sim card from another carrier and unlock the phone.. If it was never locked (such as the Google versions of the phones) this is not needed.
Once Sim Unlocked it will remain so regardless.

So does this mean the phone is not unlocked and can only be used on T-Mobile?
or
Is it possible someone paid a 3rd party for a code to un-lock it?
I guess I really need to try like a AAT & T sim and see if I could service,as that was my undrstanding. I was under the impression that any gsm service provider uising a sim card would be operable.
You have gone in a circle now.. I told you if its sim locked when you put in a sim of a diffrent provider it will ask for an unlock code.. once sim unlocked it will *never* be locked again.
You will of course need a non tmo-us sim to be sure.
All I know is the MT3G will have been shipped from the factory locked.. I will not know the current state since the seller prob made sure it was unlocked if it wasn't already so if the phone was sold unlocked ..
The only other way I know to test is harder to do and possible risky with the firmware changes to do it w/o special htc serial wires.
And FYI a pin protected sim will ask for the sims pin before the sims carrier can be read (thus you need to provide the sims pin before it will ask for the unlock code if the phone is sim locked)
Ok,gotcha.
Sorry,told you not to savy
So I'll test another sim again and see what happens.
Thanks again for all the support

Ok.
So I pulled the sim card from my neighbors AT &T phone and when the phone booted up it asked me for :
"sim network unlock pin"
unlock
dismiss
My neighbor told me he didn't have a sim pin,but he used the code he has to lock his phone.
I received the same message when I tried someone elses sim who also states they have no pin number.
Message being: "Network Unlock Request Un succussful"
So am I correct in my thinking that this phone is not unlocked? and or it is sim locked?
I just e-mailed the seller asking him if he had the unlock code for the phone,so I can now only wait for his response. In the past he was not very responsive to past e-mails

Network Detection Issue

I received a unlock code for my phone and when i put a sim card for other network it is not detecting any network but when i put the sim unlock code phone is accepting it and telling that phone is successfully unlocked.
Can someone help me how can i resolve this issue and be able to use my phone on other network other than TMobile
I am trying to use the phone on Aitel Network in Delhi India - FYI
Reboot the phone after you've unlocked it.
If it boots locked again - there's your problem.
If it reboots unlocked, but you still see no data - you might have a HW issue with your phone. Looking at your carrier supported bands, the phone should work with them. Verify that you have a good signal in your area.

There was no need to purchase the code as there are several threads here on how to menu unlock it. But since we are beyond that, I'm guessing the other SIM is not provisioned and has no service on it. Try using a friends T-mobile SIM. That's how I was able to check the menu unlock method.

Thank you for your answer.
I used a regular size Vodafone SIM which I just used in Europe last month, on my other phone, so that SIM should be ok.
However I used a SIM cutter to transform in into a microSIM . Visually looks ok too. Could it be that in this process the SIM (now microSIM) got damaged somehow?
When I first insert it, I was prompted for the unlock code, which I typed, got an ok message, but that's about it.
Now says "emergency calls only" and it does NOT prompt me for the unlock code anymore.
Original ATT SIM works just fine.
There's more: I just put that Vodafone microSIM into my wife's phone (which is unlocked) and it works fine.
So bottom line, I used an unlock code which apparently worked (got the message "network unlock successful") but the phone does not appear to be unlocked.
I will definitely try a T-mobile SIM as soon as I find one, but in the meantime which is that "secret code" to check network status for this phone?
*#7465625# does not work and returns "connection problem or invalid MMI code"
Thank you
anybody has the answer to my question ?

[Q] Motorola Droid RAZR M XT907

Hey Guys,
I have a question i keep getting this error on my phone
Code:
sim card not recognized ,please insert sim card
while the sim card is inside just received it from the US/Verizon about to use it for IAM GSM Morocco , i know verizon use CDMA and also know that the phone is unlocked but i can't seem to get my sim cards recognized i tried 2 micro sim from IAM, and the option to check GSM instead of global or CMDA i cant i get blocked by the same error i rebooted the phone no changes
Ok when I got my Droid M I got the exact same message. I assume you're on the stock rom. Even though I got this message, I still managed to get access to my local Network because the Droid M does not disable GSM if youre outside the U.S.A.
You're in Morocco so you shouldn't have any problems getting GSM network to work. Try another sim. The message you are getting is easily disabled using Titanium Backup. I'll post it up once I find it, I haven't had to do it for a long time.
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thank you for the quick response Yes i did manage to bypass the activation screen just so i can use the other options but in the beginning it didnt even let me go farther than that message I when i bypassed it i went to select GSM it didnt let me the sim cards work on other phones
I did try another sim card that works in another phone i get the same error i cant even select GSM in the setting its always in Global

Debranded Sprint LG G6 - Lost APNs

Hello readers and devs,
TL;DR
Debranded a Sprint LG G6 --> Factory & Hard Reset phone --> SIM card not being read.
-----
Need help getting my phone back on MetroPCS network after a debrand. I will try to be a thorough as I can for SEO robots and to explain as best I can what I did and what I noticed changing.
!!! action --> I debranded (unbranded, sic) my Sprint LG G6 993 phone using the code provided in the forums, hoping for the best.
I noticed the following changed after debranding:
APNs were locked (not able to create new or edit, however the MetroPCS APN was still there)
Sprint logo during boot gone
WiFi Calling option gone (was not working on MetroPCS network anyway)
mobile settings -> network mode -> GSM and Automatic options missing; set to LTE/CDMA
the cellular network connection to MetroPCS was not functioning properly
SIM card error when a phone call was made, no texting either
So, I naturally read through the forums to try to get the phone working properly again on my network. I read the topic Sprint LG G6 (LS993) Dial Codes.
!!! action --> I used the code ##72786# to "Reset provisioning and makes phone reactivate".
After that, I noticed that the MetroPCS APN was removed. APNs still not editable. At this point after reading some more on the forum I decided that I needed to get the phones MSL code, go into the service menu and edit the APNs from there. However, after getting the MSL and going into the service menu area, the APN area would still not allow me to edit the fields.
I went to MetroPCS to see if they could put a new sim card in the phone, hell for all I knew maybe my sim card was bad, remember when I try to make a call I get a SIM card error message. MetroPCS guy tries some things, calls up a service person on the phone, says nothing is wrong with the sim. Tells me to come back in 30 min. I go over to Sprint, give them the phone and tell them what is happening. They say the phone IS unlocked. Then a sales rep tells me that debranding the phone means that it is no longer a Sprint phone and they will not touch the phone. I ask nicely for a tech supervisor. Sprint supervisor says that I should try to Factory Reset the phone. I go home, backup the phone and do a factory reset.
!!! action --> Factory Reset the phone.
Changes:
mobile settings -> network mode -> GSM and Automatic options appear again; set to Automatic
Still unable to add or edit APNs (the APN area options are all greyed out).
!!! action --> I take out the SIM card and put it into my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy On5) thinking well i need a working phone.
I get an error, On5 is not connecting to the network, needs to be activated.
!!! action --> I take out the sim card and put it back into the LG G6.
Changes:
Invalid SIM card error (phone does not detect the sim card)
The SIM card is not being detected by the phone.
I read the forums some more and discovered a post that referenced a LG G6 that was debranded and to get it working again the owner had to buy a Sprint Prepaid activation SIM to re-provision the phone to get it working again on his alternative network.
I downloaded a SIM Card reader and the LG G6 doesnt give me any information on the sim card. If I put the SIM card into my On5 phone and use the SIM Card reader app I can see that my SIM card is okay and all data is displayed properly for the SIM.
I am not really sure what to do, but try to get a Sprint SIM card and put it in to try to reprovision the phone to Sprint and then move it back over to MetroPCS.
Please help what should I do now to get the phone back on MetroPCS?
Thanks,
Trumpet

Debranding?
The boot loader is locked so how can you modify anything on the phone?
First I would kdz back to stock.
That is install the version of software unaltered that should have come with the phone.
I'll leave it up to you to search in the QA section.
Once that is done, confirm the phone is unlocked.
You should need to do nothing more than to drop in the Metro SIM to have it work.
If the phone is not unlocked you will get "invalid SIM" messages.

Firstly, thank you for the read and reply. I was able to debrand the phone utilizing a dial code found in this thread:
sprint-lg-g6-ls993-dial-codes
The thread states:
"##27263# (##BRAND#) - Removes any carrier branding and redetects the carrier based on (NV registry/RUIM/SIM?).
Note: Useful if flashing to Boost Mobile or similar carrier."
After debranding the APN area became un-editable.

First I would kdz back to stock.
That is install the version of software unaltered that should have come with the phone.
I'll leave it up to you to search in the QA section.

I checked this thread:
list-lg-g6-stock-firmware
At this time there is not a Sprint LG G6 KDZ.

Once that is done, confirm the phone is unlocked.
You should need to do nothing more than to drop in the Metro SIM to have it work.
If the phone is not unlocked you will get "invalid SIM" messages.

I need to confirm that the phone is unlocked. I did have a conversation with Sprint technician that said it came up unlocked in their system. It could be possible (although I don not know for sure) that the phone's hardware/software is locked and yet Sprint cell network has the phone unlocked in their system. Maybe I need to purchase an unlock service for the phone?
Have you tried this thread? https://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-g6/help/mobile-gsm-data-issues-unlock-t3625705
I have the same issued. After "debranding" I can't add a new APN. In my case I do have voice and SMS, but no DATA since I can't add an APN.. Were you able to fix your phone. Please share the solution if you did. Thanks

Try this:
Dial 5689#*993# ; go to NAOT + NAO Test + NAO CARRIER (Select NONE).
After that you will be able to edit/add APNs
