Coming from a Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505 (rom was before Knox, yay!)) I guess I'm spoiled for info. I didn't quite expect it to be this sparse. :-/
Only 2 threads concerning rooting and installing recovery on the SM-G870F..
Even though I've been here for almost a decade, I still find it unsettling every time i have to fiddle with the firmware.
And even more so, when Samsung is threatening with all sorts of evil (which btw by law, doesn't ruin my guarantee where I live).
So thanks guys! I'm now rooted (Chainfire -Towelroot doesn't work) and have made a backup with TWRP.

Post a feedback when you're done

I confirm that twrp-2.8.7.0-klte ( galaxy S5 international version) works without problem on S5 Active ( SM-G870F).
You can not install this custom recovery direct from TWRP Manager from GooglePlay but installing is possible through Odin.
It was very hard to get any information and find clear experience about possible custom recovery for this model (SM-G870F). But thanks for you guys, it actually works now on my phone. :good:

Looking for Safestrap for SM-870W
Hi All,
After some research, I found that Samsung S5 Active (Bell (Canada) Mobility) has a locked bootloader
so I cannot install CWR or TWRP customer recovery. So I guess it Safestrap for me. But I can only find
Safestrap for either AT&T or Verizon http://www.mediablog.us/download-install-safestrap-recovery-verizon-galaxy-s5-sm-g900v-att-galaxy-s5-sm-g900a/
Can I use either one of them on my device? My intention is to load Koolkit ROM but I need to figure
out first how can I install Safestrap on my phone.
Any help, advise or suggestion is appreciated.
Thank you.

[Q] Root sm-g900h

Hello Friends
I just rooted my new galaxy s5, the sm-g900h version with the corresponding root. But it software bricked my phone. Now I have the "phone-triangle-pc" screen. I had all my galaxy rooted before. So I am not a totally beginner. I tried also to redo this process but didn't work. What can I do now? Please help. Thanks a lot

It looks very much alike. I haven't done anything different from other times I rooted. But then again: How do I fix it?? There is no firmware available yet.

I just rooted my international Exynos SM-G900H using the corresponding cf-root on the main page.
The device and odin was freezing midway through the process on V3.07... i then removed the battery and reinserted it and used Odin V1.85.. Worked like a charm !!
Wow that sucks.
Just got your S5 and now it's bricked.
I always recommend waiting for others to try first
Galaxy S series devices have never bricked for me... they can't IMHO
The phone to pc connection icon that we mistake for a brick is simple to fix.. just remove the battery... wait for 5 seconds, reinsert it and enter Download mode again ( Vol down + Home + Power )

Twrp recovery is a way for us to flash stuff into the system or even whole new systems.
If you find and install that on your phone you can then flash SuperSU. I'm sorry I don't have this device yet so I cannot help you more. But I have done similar with two other Samsung phones.

As I understood, TWRP is a root-required application so I guess it would be totally useless to have it while my phone it's sel not rooted.

Im pretty sure he said. Flash twrp recovery with odin. Theres like some sort of file you flash with odin to get twrp, not with the apk.
Twrp is a recovery.
Samsung uses a pc recovery software called Odin. It is capable of flashing any part of an unlocked device including a recovery partition.
Since the tab 4 did not have a locked boot loader we can flash twrp without root. Once twrp is installed with Odin on the PC you can simply flash su into the device using twrp

For that matter you can "flash" SuperSU with Odin if someone (traditionally chainfire) creates an Odin flashable bin.

FWIW... I purchased my phone on June 19, and was able to root it the next day using CF-Auto-Root by exactly following the directions in chainfire's thread. (It did trip Knox, but that wasn't a concern for me.)
Today I successfully installed Philz Recovery version 6.58.9 via Odin 3.07, exactly following the directions in this post from the main philz thread, and it worked fine.
There were a few mis-steps in the process where the root or recovery didn't "take" properly, but in each case it turned out I'd done something wrong in Odin - used the wrong file or left a box checked/unchecked.
Phone specs:
SM-G900W8 on Rogers
Build number LRX2IT.G900W8VLU1BOC1
Kernel version 3.4.0-4100894
Android version 5.0 stock (no upgrades applied before applying root or recovery)
So there may be hope for you?

I bricked my S7 Edge, might need some help please

Hi guys,
So yesterday i was trying to install the One UI rom to my S7 Edge, but i messed up in the process. I think the problem started when i installed the latest version of TWRP (twrp-3.3.0-0 i think), and then i reinstalled a previous version of TWRP over this one (twrp-3.2.3-0).
Anyway, after doing this my phone went into full bootloop with the logo "SAMSUNG S7 EDGE ...." on the screen. No big deal i thought, i'll just flash a stock rom with odin, but everytime that i try, i keep getting the same error "sboot.bin -> FAIL!".
I already tried :
- Using differents versions of odin, especially the latest (3.13.1)
- Downloading differents roms (marshmallow, nougat, lollipop)
- Using a different usb port
- Restarting my pc multiple times
This is the SM-G935F btw.
Thanks
Just flash the latest firmware via odin. Tell me you model number and I'll send you the link to what firmware you have to flash. Also tell me what firmware are you currently flashing which is giving error

Flash this via odin and everything should work.

Yup that is why you are getting the sboot.bin error. It means the bootloader on your phone is newer than the one you are trying to flash. That's why it fails. On you phone screen you would have a error binary 4 device 5. Something like this.

Yup that's right, that was the problem. I finally was able to flash the phone back to stock.
Thanks for the help.
