Quote from Mrmarc of xda-developers.com forum:
1. Download from the Market ‘root explorer’ or a similar program. I used the free ‘Super Manager’ with included root file explorer. You must enable the root function in Super Manager, otherwise you don’t see the folders.
2. root your Galaxy Tab –>
3. Within the file explorer you should go up to root map folder (in short: “rm”).
4. Then follow the instructions of Gadgeteer81. You can either delete the file or rename it.
Quote from Gadgeteer81 of xda-developers.com forum:
To Fix Android going into “Obtaining IP Address” loop:
rm /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list
It seems to come from the fact that the phone requests its previous IP address to the access point, without any discover message, whereas the lease has expired from the AP point of view…
The previous leases are stored in /data/misc/dhcp/dhcpcd-eth0.lease and /data/misc/dhcp/dhcp_list. You just have to remove the second file (dhcp_list) to force the phone to start a new dhcp negotiation.

my problem is , my tablet shows dim options of wifi and bluetooth,
thaasian did u solve issue by above method?

Factory reset?
Or try to print something with it on a WiFi printer.

can't access LAN shares

I am trying to access my LAN shares from the Hermes.
My hermes has IP address 192.168.254.9 and my server has 192.168.254.3
So on my Hermes file manager (Total commander) I try to reach
\\192.168.254.3\d$
But it can't reach this.
What do I need to do on Hermes and/or server PC ?
Doesn't seem to work when using Active Sync but needs a WiFi connection.
I set up a VPN connection and whenever I try to access a network share it automatically starts up and I can browse the network. I just use the inbuilt file browser.
Actually it kinda works without the VPN but acts a bit strange... will go down the file structure but not up??
Doesnt work for me using active sync over bluetooth with resco file explorer at all.
Active sync gives you an ip address but if i remember its in the wrong subnet completely.
Using wifi and it works perfectly.

Isn't this a default share windows sets up for its own?
(these default shares are not available for use, I think they are there either for internal use, or to prevent one from sharing the rootfolder)
Could you try sharing a different folder on the PC?
Make a d:\test, and share this folder; there should be a blue hand under the icon of the folder.
It can help to switch off "Simple file sharing" (in Windows Explorer, Tools > Folder Options > View, bottom of the list, uncheck simple file sharing).
Jörg
it does not matter. I tried both a normal share and hidden shares like d$
Now I captured the traffic between my pocket pc and the server.
if I try to connect by \\192.168.254.3\ my pocket pc tries to resolve name of 192.168.254.3 , but in fact it does not need it.
As it couldn't resolve the name it never tries to connect.
edit:
I figured out that the problem occurs because my wifi connection is not connected to "work" but "internet"
if I change it to "work" I can connect to my shares.
But then, what do I lose ?

Don't know - maybe a few apps won't like it. But I've got wifi in internet mode and can still do shares... with a little help from "Pocket Hosts" and "NetUse". Not entirely sure where I got them from... try searching on them ("netuse.cab" on the net use one). Set the name/ip up in pocket hosts and use the name in NetUse. I suspect you could use the name in Resco Explorer or any other app that way.
Maybe I just don't understand the question, I always feel dumb after I speak. I installed An app called "pocket lan" and it just sorted it all out for me. Everything works, it was an older version too.
now there's one strange thing I've encountered...
I can access all the files and folders on my pc via wifi, yet only those that i actually put on sharing. Now when I try to reach the default shares (c$, d$ etc) while logged in as an admin it just doesn't let me to do that ... is there a way to log in as an admin ?
btw I'm using Resco File explorer for that thing - it is quite useful and has never let me down but the admin log in just doesn't work
any ideas ?
thank you all...
I hope those apps will help (I couldn't try yet)
btw, I found the following page with FAQ
http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/networkutils.htm
well, I installed "pocket hosts" and "netuse"
pocket hosts works (I tested with vxutil)
however, when I try to map a connection in "netuse" , netuse does not work.
it is still trying to connect with ost name and makes nbname query on the lan broadcast address.
my server responds with its other IP.
why does not "pocket hosts" work ?
no matter which software I try, I get a "error 53 connecting to resource" error.
When I search for this , I came to the following page:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/242001
This problem seems to be related to my problem. However, I am not using Windows NT 4
My servers are Windows XP
So what is my "error 53" ?
any idea would help me... please...

gtablet Device name on the network

Does anyone know how to change the device name on the gtablet? I now have the ablilty to hook me gtablet up to my corporate network, so I went into the DHCP server to make a reservation for the device the name that it displays is andoid_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.mydomain.com replace the X with Hex numbers and letters. I would like to change the name on the device so that other admins know what the device is and don't delete if from the reservation pool.
i was thinking
IpadCrusher.mydomin.com
I too would like to know how to change the hostname (device name).

I still like Viper Tablet for the Viewsonic VEGAn build when ever it goes final!
I would also like to know. I keep getting hassled by my Network Admins because every time I load a new ROM, the "xxxxx" changes and it looks like a new device. Same thing happens with my HTC Incredible Phone.
I'm jealous because I can't even logon to my works corporate network. Device keeps failing to assign an i.p address.
I get connected via wifi if I assign a static address, but android doesn't support http proxy or something, so the username/logon screen never comes up

If you are rooted and have a robust busybox installed, after reboot you could execute the following command:
busybox hostname YourDevice
You could setup a gscript script and run it before you turn on your wifi or download autostart and have your script run automatically after a reboot.
Your network admins actually allow this thing on your corporate network?? Oh my.
In Linux, the computer name is stored in the /etc/hosts file. You might try editing your hosts file and put in:
127.0.0.2 name.site name

If you get a fixed IP address or one with reservation each time you connect to your wifi router, this may work.
I have a home built dd-wrt wireless distribution system at home and was playing with the hosts file to see how my wds interpreted hosts file and it didn't work but that is just my homegrown system. my 2wire router didn't interpret it either (gave the random android_xxxxxxxxxxx device name.
Of course, you could just give them the MAC address of your wireless card which you can get by doing #busybox ifconfig in a terminal session and tell them the name you want and they can create an Arec in the dns names.

Actually, no. However, connecting to MS Exchange with Sync logs the Device ID into Exchange. So, each time I load a different ROM, I log a new ID. Drives them nuts.
I did some research today though and found an app called Android ID Changerthat will allow me to see my DeviceID and modify it. I reinstalled my orginal ROM, recorded the ID, reloaded Vegan and changed the ID to the original device information. Works very well.
I found this post in another forum that may work for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9560696&postcount=1
Please note that if you do use setprop you would have to reset it after each reboot. I think adding a correlating line in build.prop (if one exists) would be a better alternative. Otherwise, they discuss unpacking/repacking the boot.img to make it permanent.

I wouldn't say its on the corprate network, its on the corprate wireless network, I can get to the web and the intranet but that is about it we have it pretty locked down. I have it teathered to my phone most of the day. Its fun to take it to a meeting and have all of the iPad users say is that the new iPad I just laugh and think YOU WISH.
Roebeet I know I have talked about this before with you, I like you would like to get my usb air card working on this bad boy that would solve all fo my connections issues. Im not the smartest guy with linux but I could spend some time if I could find some info about it.
I had found this site a while ago but could not get the drivers to install I'm sure its because we don't have source code.

Accessing and viewing files from pc on A500

So I want to access my pc files from the tab using es file explorer. I set up file sharing on my pc so now i can see the files but when i try to open the folders i get a message telling me it can't be opened. Can anyone give me a basic run down of what I need to do to getthis to work. And is it easy to access my files from any pc, say can my neighbor get into my files with his laptop if he knows what he's doing?
I'm still on xp on my pc. As far as I know I have no password on the pc. The only account I have is admin and when I installed my tiny xp I don't think i set up any passwords.
So either this is a complete dumbass question or something else.
File Manager HD
Use File Manager HD, it's much better for accessing files on network. choose Lan Connection from the menu, select create, input ip, usename and password. i use it everyday to transfer files.

Gave it a go but won't allow me to connect. Says connection unavailable. Got my ip from an ip checking site put in my wireless router username and password (correct?) But still no joy. Should i be doing something else?
Try putting the stuff that you want to share in the public folder on your pc.
On my Windows 7 machine it is in C:\Users\Public. That should do it.
Oh and the public folder should probably be treated as just that. Public. I am behind a nice firewalled router so only the folks on my network can get to them without being a total H4X0R. You can change the permissions on that folder if you really want to lock it down. But I really don't use that feature, so I have no way of knowing the process.

Go to control pan and make a account with a account name and password and admin rights.
Now see what your local IP for your machine is, not your internet IP. Should be something like 192.168.2.something or 1.something.
Now you have your windows log in name and password and your machine IP.
Use your tab software to connect, uncheck anonomous log in so it will ask for user name and password and IP. Also if your router has security turned on you will also née that password.

Thanks to all of you will give it alla try later after work. If i can't do it now then i'm a complete idiot
If you dont have any password on your windows account and you dont want to create an new account, try this:
1st. Check your local IP by doing this: win start menu, select run, type "cmd" in the shell type "ipconfig" and you will have something like 192.168.2xx.x
2nd. In Es File Explorer or File Manager HD just enter the IP and log as anonymous
You must have shared folders in windows, to do so, right-click on the folder you want to access, properties, sharing, tick "share this folder on the network" OK
You should be able to access the folder.
Good Luck!
did exactly as suggested and worked a treat up to a point. Now I can see the directories but they are empty???
I don't hav any paswords on my xp so didn't need to set up a new account shared the files on the network. Entered ip, got to the folders, music etc, but each is empty.
Sure you are not looking at the public folders and not your local..?
Ok, I dug out an old WinXp lappy that was in the closet and I can see the files. Here's how I did it.
I put what I wanted to share into the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents of the Xp machine.
Then on the tablet I selected the lan tab in ES File explorer. Chose the settings box and selected 'new', and then 'server'. I entered the ip manually.
When it asked for a logon I ticked the 'anonymous' box and logged in. Everything else was blank.
Everything worked.
Hope that this helped.

Right click on the folders you want to share, like music and video or whatever and share them. They should be viewable on your a500 if you get them shared proper. That way you don't have to copy everything you want to share to the public folders. But public is better than no shares.

You want your PCs Internal IP Address, not the external one for your Router (any PC you use to check that site will return the external IP of the router)
Click Start, then click Run. type "CMD" into the box. a command window will open. now type "IPCONFIG" look at the one for Local Area Connection. the IP address there is the one you want. BTW you need to do this on the PC that you want to get files from.
Of course if you want to get to the files from anywhere in the world then you do need your external and some open ports.
Another thing to note. XP started a trend in that Passwords are required to share things across a network that are manually shared.

wireless storage not working. proper setup.

In my routers configuration I can see that both my PC and my G2 are connected to my home network.
I enter the proper IP-adress into windows explorer but can't get it to work.
I tried it with \\192.168.X.XXX\G2 with \\G2 with \\192.168.X.XXX/G2
I tried to map a network drive with username and password and I typed all of the above into the run-window.
Wireless storage is activatd.
Anybody?
I gave up with my win 8 setup, using the LG program . Websharing app works like a charm though.

Same Problem
Been all over the web for a fix. I have a T Mobile device and I've tried everything I can think of. Not a noob VOIP Engineer here!
Try just \\192.168.x.x (without the \\G2 at the end). If you tap the Wireless Storage notification, it should give you a help screen with the G2's network name, which for a VZW G2 should be \\VS980_4G_LTE
Had some issues with this and then found this (see below) credit to android central post # 3095695
I used option 1 and it worked well. The only thing I noticed is that when I go to my computer, it has both a search bar and an address bar. The address bar is on the left, search is on the right. I typed in the \\192.168.x.xxx into the address bar. It then displayed the phone folder, I clicked on it and it open it up just as if I had it USB'd. This was on Windows 7 computer.
Edit: As a new user I can't put the link on so here are the directions:
Option 1: Direct search
Double Click on Computer on your PC to open your Explorer. Click the search bar at the top and type in the following:
\\192.168.x.xx (the IP address listed on your Wireless storage screen)
You will be prompted to enter your username and password and once done a network folder labeled "g2" will pop up and you will have wireless access to your phone.
Option 2: Map a network drive
Double Click on Computer on your PC to open your Explorer, then choose "Map network drive" from the top menu, choose a drive letter then for the folder type in the following:
\\192.168.x.xx\G2
Like in the direct search method, the IP address you'll want to enter is the IP listed on your Wireless storage screen. Make sure you also include all the forward slashes and the \G2 at the end.
You will be prompted to enter your username and password and once done a mapped network drive labeled "G2" will pop up on your explorer screen. Double click that drive and you will have wireless access to your phone.
*NOTE*: The \G2 at the end seems to be required in order to map a network drive, but it is not required when doing a direct search in the explorer search bar. This is probably because the "g2" folder is what is shared, and you can only map to a shared folder. Interestingly, the \G2 is also required if you prefer to access your phone via a web browser, as is listed in LG's instructions on the Wireless storage screen itself, but fails to include this information. I tried many different ways and simply entering the IP address or \\G2 in a browser window simply doesn't work. I'm sure there are some technical reasons for this, but I'm just a tech enthusiast not a professional.
I had issues too and I can confirm these last tips are both working
I know the biggest thing for me was that on Verizon, the phone is VS980_4G_LTE unless you rename it.
OK, I can not get this to work for the life of me. So let me ask a simple question. Is your PC "cabled" to your wireless router or is computer using a wireless PCI/PCIE card?
I have read through every instruction on every thread concerning this subject and have tried to use every method mentioned and none of them are working.
Windows XP
D-Link DIR655 router
My computer is cabled to the router.
Never mind. Your PC has to be wireless as well or else it will not work. I have another PC this is on a wireless card to my network and the first time I tried it, it worked.
Removed. Erroneous it appears.....

So for all of you having problems getting this to work, YOUR PC HAS TO BE WIRELESS AND NOT CABLED TO YOUR WIRELESS ROUTER.

Not true. I can access wireless storage with my PCs which are wired, or my laptop which is wireless. No issues with either method, though large files are slow as hell to transfer in comparison to smaller files such as pictures.

I followed jmichalakjr 2nd method and I just got the drive to map on my windows 7 machine after a bunch of fails. I was typing in the \\192.168.XX.XX\\G2 to map my network drive. However, as pointed out in the NOTE above, there needs to be a single \ before G2 to get it to map properly. I've mapped 100s of network drives for work and don't know why I followed the G2 Wirelss share screen and typed in two backward slashes before the share.
Bottom line try to map with the single slash before G2 and you should be good: \\192.168.XX.XX\G2.

That was the first thing I tried without succeeding.

[Q] Wireless Storage

I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I have no idea how to use Wireless Storage. I have followed instructions but my computer (windows 8) wont navigate to the \\10.0.0.10 link provided by the Wireless Storage application. So confused...please help me sort this out and learn. I have xfinity with the wireless gateway tower and I have turned off firewall for the network under router settings. Nothing works.
It's not well documented.
I'll assume your trying in a browser(?). The address has to typed into explorer, not internet, address bar. Then you'll get the password pop-up and can browse the phone.
If though on Linux you're boned. It's nearly impossible.

I went to explorer, still cannot connect. It's windows 8
I dont know if that could be the source of you problem, but that ip-address looks pretty nasty... Check your router configuration and/or apply a static ip to your g2 in the form of 192.168.xxx.xxx (it probably needs to be on the same subnet (same address except last group of numbers) as your pc...)
What I had to enter in my explorer to get it to work was
\\192.168.xxx.xxx\G2
(Replace the x'es with your actual ip and don't forget the \G2 at the end)
You can also map that address as a network-volume for easier access later.

That IP isnt nasty at all.
10.x.x.x. is also used for LANs, just as 192.168..
Anyway, just open your windows explorer (not internet explorer !! )
and type \\<your IP\
A prompt should open asking u for user and password.
