LG G3 Australia Thread [AU] - G3 General

Heyo, and welcome to Australian users!
The LG G3 was released on August 6th for Telstra customers. I'm not sure on the dates for other carriers or local outright purchases.
What have you done with your phone so far?
What version is the latest? I have 4.4.2
Removed any apps? I've found a couple to disable
What's your CPU bin? My PVS Bin is 9
*****
Australian phone purchase details here.
Telstra
- LG G3 D855K
- 2GB RAM, 16GB model
- 10D firmware is the latest.
- 4.4.2
- To root: Towelroot
- Xposed works fine.
Optus
- 10J firmware is the latest via OTA.
- 4.4.2
- Boot animation here: /data/.OP
- To root: Purpledrake

I've got an import but would like to flash the latest AU firmware on my phone. Can you do me a favor and go to the link below, replacing "your_imei" with your actual IMEI and then sharing the KDZ download link?
http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=your_imei

Link isn't working.
Which Android version do you have by the way?

Hrm, seems like that link doesn't work for Australian G3s as I asked the same question on Whirlpool the other day and another guy couldn't get it working either.
I'm on 4.4.2, all G3s would be on the same version of Android however there are small incremental changes that LG does to the system that isn't reflected by the Android versioning. If you go to about phone > software, you can see your software version and mine is 10G.

Yeah definitely not working. It finds the model though - D855K. I'm on software 10D.
Do you know if I can use the root methods for other D855 models? There is no stock image of this Telstra version, so nothing to revert back to heh.

One up here! Going from a note 2 it's an upgrade, love the screen and happy with the speed and stability. What have I done? Google restore, while that was going on I looked up rooting, I used towelroot, easy and install superuser. Installed xposed and am using crappalink, gel settings and g3 tweak box! All working great. I get the update 10f install exposed wasn't activated easy install reboot. root was not affected. Have also done the build prop tweak for extended apps for dual Window. Headphone volume boost on the headphone output! All been going well, chromecast, bluetooth audio. Nice to meet everyone! Looking forward to seeing what everyone else has done.

Cool. I'm still stock, looking at using Towelroot soon to get rid of some of the Telstra and LG apps I don't want. There's a decent chunk of RAM used by it.
Can you explain more the 10F update? I have 10D out of the box.

I had D or e from factory, as I said install towelroot then superuser all good to go, easy! Then after a day got the v10f update lost xposed, reinstalled again good to go!

Okay thanks. I just rooted, installed SuperSU, Xposed, and installing G3 TweaksBox and toying with it now.

Too easy!

Hey guys,
I've currently got a Note 3 and I'm thinking the G3 looks pretty good to me. I had a G2 before my note 3 and the only reason I swapped was because of the lack of expandable memory and removable battery. Seeing as both of these have been fixed in the G3, I'm considering swapping back to LG.
I am thinking of buying an unlocked 32gb model off Kogan cus it's the only place I have found that sells the 32gb model with 3gb ram unlocked in Aus (unless anyone knows different?)
Anyway, Has anyone here come from a note 3? or bought a phone from kogan before? and just generally, is the phone as awesome as all the reviews say?
Thanks!

Highly recommend Kogan

Hi ajgftw,
I have bought 2 phones from Kogan, following a friends recommendations. I highly recommend them fast delivery too.

Kogan would probably be the best since it's an Australian retailer (warranty and ACCC issues). The phone is a grey import though, because Australia has the 2GB model designated.
I haven't used the phone much yet because my providers are taking their sweet time to transfer my service, but here's something:
- Screen is nice. Needs DPI change otherwise it looks too big out of the box.
- I came from Nexus (and AOSP-based ROM's before that), so I've done a couple small tweaks to the phone to make it much better IMO. Things like removing features and buttons in notification drawer to make it show more notifs. Xposed and rooting is easy on this phone.
- Performance seems okay. Uninstall/install apps is snappier than my Nexus4. Haven't played games yet. Other general snappiness is about the same as my stock Nexus 4, with small improvements in areas (web browsing, keyboard, etc)
- I like Knock Code. Easy unlock.
Seems I'll be happy with the phone.

Huh, that's odd. I'm 10D firmware. And model is D855K !
I think I heard that if towelroot doesn't work you need to use purpledrake. Sorry I can't help further.

I used purpledrake with no issues

Hey bud,
I bought the 32GB version from Kogan for the same reason. It turns out it's SEA (South East Asia) edition, which from an OS point of view means nothing as you can set it to English Australian. The box however is in another language.
Kogan delivered quickly and it was well cheaper than the 16GB version.
I'm very happy with it.
As for the comparison to Samsung Galaxy Note 3, I would probably say that LG isn't as mature in software as Samsung. I don't particularly like either LG or Samsung's versions of Android, both are too cartoonish and bloated. (After my trip to South Korea earlier this year, I can tell why. Their culture is all about bright colours and gimmicks.)

Also, a non-carrier tied phone means faster OS updates as they don't have to go through carrier testing. Mine is on sotware version 10G.

Hey guys,
I am also wondering if anyone knows how to flash the 32GB/3GB AU Firmware onto my phone? I imported one from Taiwan but it's currently running the Taiwan firmware. Not sure if there's any difference between the two but I'd feel better if my phone was running an actual Australian firmware that I can update properly, rather than an international firmware that I've had to make look like it's Australian, I'm even a few versions behind for some reason.
Thanks to anyone that can help!

Hey mate, just wanted to confirm your thinking that you can't get the G3 with 3gb Ram or 32gb internal storage in Australia It's a shame. But i'd purchase off Kogan, I was going to but I wanted express shipping ;D

I got a F400 G3 the day it was released in Korea - currently on 10k & rooted with plenty of the bloatware removed. I was able to originally root it with towelroot but after the latest 10k update that no longer worked, I used PurpleDrake-Lite instead and no dramas!
And a couple days ago just upgraded my Telstra plans because they were out of contract and got 2 x D855k G3's from Telstra.
Gave 1 to the wife and will most likely sell the other which is still sealed.
So if anyone is interested then let me know
Also have a Z1 Compact and Nexus 5 sitting on my desk that need to go.

Note 4 - Which one?

I have the Note 3 but it's the HK 16gb variant. This has been an absolute pain in the donkey at times. The only RoM I really have working guaranteed is Miui, which is great, but ... Anyway, I will not want to fall for the same mistake twice.
I live in China too - and for some reason (probably the bands used) I have never got 4G to work on my Phone. I am pretty sure I don't want to get stuck with a model number from mainland china though, as I cannot read Chinese websites to root and get decent roms and Gapps etc. Really wish Google would stop getting banned in China.
Need it to work when travelling to the States and other countries too.
Any decent advise would be appreciated.
Cheers.
You should go for the international model (N910S)

The Note 4 just released in HK 2 days ago, and it's the Exynos version with 32GB storage.
Maybe you can still consider that...

[Q] S5 vs S5 Plus (SM-G901F), Worth the wait?

Hey,
I want to buy a new device.
Most likely the S5 Plus, however It's not released yet in my country.
Neither do I know if it's gonna be released soon.
Does somebody know when it's officially coming to Europe? (Netherlands)
Greetings,
Meltina
it is already on sale in France
and there's some firmware available for netherland @ sammobile (vodafone ,t-mobile and PHN firmware !?)
https://www.vodafone.nl/shop/mobiel/telefoon/abonnement/samsung-galaxy-s5-gold.shtml?&abonnement=red-essential-d-2jr
S5 plus is worth waiting... i would spend a fortune for it but its not available here
Better CPU, and better LTE .. Don't think that's a lot to wait for though?
Would rather get pay a bit more and get note 4?
Hi. You can buy it also in Germany. Dont know where you live in the Netherland, but Nordhorn is directly by the border. You can get it there. Cheers
I would wait for the S6 by now. If you are a rooter you might wait for ever for proper tools. That happened to me with S4 4G version
I dislike QHD ;w;
More of an performance guy.
you can root g901f and there's one custom rom and one cwm based recovery
Hi. S6, Note4, Z3....all are maybe better....but also a bit greater. I have big hands but 5.1 or 5.2 i for me not easy to handle with hand.

I got it via Marktplaats (should ring a bell for you)
Rooted it, put CWM on it
Mine came with some T Mobile rom, I downloaded a Vodafone NL rom for it, flashed it with Odin, and that didn't have any branding
I did however remove some bloat apps, and even if you can't uninstall them you can still hide them
Send me a PM if you need help

Suspicious outrageously cheap LG G2 seller, legit?

As the title suggests,
Came across a company called cell-plaza on ebay who are based in Hong Kong selling lots of high end phones, all brand new, for what seems to be very cheap prices.
Details:
Description: NEW LG G2 D801 4G LTE Quad-Core 32GB 13MP Android Mobile Phone- Black (Unlocked)
Price: £141.00
Link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281435055233?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
Has anyone had any experience with this company, or can you spot anything suspicious about them?
I've already made the purchase, hoping for the best.
I've been stung by clones & knock off's before, but I've never seen an LG G2 clone before.
Thanks.
If you read the negative feedbacks on ebay you foud that probably they sent you a refurbished phone and probably without warranty. But the price made the deal..

Hope it works out for you, man. The negative feedback is a bit discouraging, especially the one that says something about changing feedback in order to get refund!
But let us know how it works out for you. I'm thinking at worst (based on feedback) you have a 4 in 5 chance of getting a working phone.
Did it arrive?
Hi, did you receive this phone OK? I'm contemplating buying one myself.
Thanks
alot of negative feedback thats not good... before you flash anything search for refurbished thread and make sure oyu know wich model variant you get by looking on the motherboard otherways youll brick your phone if you wish to flash new rom even root i think..
that is the normal price of a SECOND hand G2 in my country.
gunna be selling my vs980 for 150 on ebay =D

Well, now that I have received my G2 from them, I can share some of my experience. I live in USA and good ATT LTE performance is crucial to me. The company sold the ATT D800 version on ebay as new for about $165 bucks, which I think is a fair price for a previous generation fragship phone sold by a shoddy HK company considering that $200 buys me a brand new ASUS Zenfone 2 or Zenfone 2 Laser here in USA with full warranty and all.
The phone arrived two weeks later in the original cardboard packaging sealed in plastic. The phone case looked brand new, no scratches or any signs of use or abuse. I removed the back cover and looked inside. Inside was the original LG battery produced in 2013 and D800 printed on the case. The printed IMEI number matches what is reported by the software, and corresponds to the ATT D800 model. The phone works fine and has already installed two OTA updates, upgrading KitKat 4.4.2 to Lollipop.
Next, I installed the LTE discovery app to snoop around on which LTE bands my G2 is using. Depending on my location in the neighborhood, the bands were switching between Band 2 and the all-crucial Band 17, which confirms I indeed got the D800 for the ATT LTE network. Finally, I have run Geekbench 3 benchmark app repeatedly and the consistent scores of 900+ and 2500+ (single-core and multi-core) are in line with the benchmarks published in many online reviews of G2.
HOWEVER, the printed manual inside the box, talks about LG-P920 which corresponds to an entirely different LG phone, which does point to some kind of shoddy vendor activity.
Either way, I feel pretty happy having purchased an LG2 that looks like new and works like new for just $165 bucks. For me it's a stopgap phone until the Snapdragon 820 devices arrive. The only thing that disappoints me is having just 32GB of storage. I have a music collection that takes up something like 200GB in lossless format, and even converted to a high bit rate MP3, 32GB is just barely not enough. I wish there was an SD card slot. In retorspect, the SD801-based 64GB Oneplus One that's now sold for only $300 USD may have been a better choice. Also, the LG GUI is ok, but not as nice as the Cyanogen OS on a Oneplus One phone. The LG GUI looks ok, it is something like made by geeks, for other geeks. The poor wallpaper collection and the lack of themes is appalling, but fixable. The phone looks like a keeper to me. I look forward to testing the camera performance and trying Cyanogenmod.
Get yourself a tiny Micro sd card reader by Meenova for 10.00 and a 128GB Samsung Micro SDXC Card (can be found under 40 this week due to cyber Monday Week deals if you google slickdeals.net) and you'll be more than set!
I'm using the Samsung 64GB Pro Micro SDXC Card and its amazing.

Thank you so much for posting this and for following up with your findings.
I have a G3 on order from the same seller and started to worry after reading their negative feedback (also AFTER buying - which I would not normally do!).
I'll also post on here once I receive the LG G3 32gb to confirm that the phone received is the official LG Model or a replica, new or used and whether the phone is working as it should.
Thanks for the SD card suggestion too, I will have a look.
I was just looking at a G3 from them this morning. I'll be curious to hear about your experience.

I got the G3 it is legit LG tested everything and its legit. A couple of things though.
Branded T-Mobile who have been EE for nearly 2 years?
Get alerts from T-Mobile saying 156mb update is ready but it just reboots and stays on 4.4.2.
It keeps on turning off and will come on again once I remove and re-insert the battery.
Currently debating whether to send it back for a refund or root to see if it fixes it!

Buying an Axon 7 in Europe - Questions about different versions

I'm from Spain and I really want to get an Axon 7, but I can't decide where to get it and what to do with it since there are three different versions (A2017, A2017U and A2017G).
I immediately cross out the A2017U off the list since I don't think there is any way to get it from here. That leaves me with two options:
- Get the A2017 from Aliexpress
- Get the A2017G from Amazon
Here is what I'm debating myself on:
- The A2017 from Aliexpress is 50€ cheaper than the A2017G from Amazon, but it only has one year of warranty versus two years if I get it from Amazon. I am careful with my phone so I don't think it makes much of a difference other than the price and the version.
- From what I've read in forums, the A2017G is apparently worse than the A2017, regarding physical aspects like the audio jack output being less powerful, and internal aspects like software accesibility. I'm not really sure about this, I hope someone can illuminate me.
The idea that I have right now is to get the A2017 version from Aliexpress and ask for an unopened box so the seller doesn't install anything on the phone (I've read that the phone won't update if this happens), and then install what's needed myself, but I don't know how hard/dangerous that is.
I need a lot of help here, thank you very much.
I had the A2017G and have the A2017 now. I would say the 2017 feels better to use and a bit snappier than the 2017g version.
The only downside is some of the apps are in Chinese and i am unable to create a zte account right now. Can't get the sms code to come through.
Still prefer this and you can have a better specced phone in terms of storage and ram

If you buy ftom amazon you have 3 years waranty. I have g model and it is great. Sound is loud enough for me with headphones. The Chinese version does not have european LTE bands, so no LTE if you buy Chinese version... The phone is great, I don't know what are people talking about... Nougat is on the way and cm13 is also almost finished is you like to root and flash roms.. The phone is one of the fastest i ever seen.

Signal strength is good inside the house in comparison to other phones as well.

Did you have to do anything to the phone related to software when you first got it? Or did your seller install the things for you?
Seller installed stuff, and had a leaflet sarong you can't do factory reset etc.. but i reset and upgraded the firmware to b11. Nothing else

I'd also add that chances are you'll have to pay 15 euro + VAT extra (In case of Belgium for example, with a VAT of 21%, this adds the hefty sum of 96 euros) if the customs officers catch your phone.

I am aware of that. That's a point in favor of buying from Amazon, even if the price is a little bit more expensive.
I think that chinese model does not have band 20. This is used in europe I don't know for the uk...
Diffrences in bands. Chinese model won't have lte in europe..
And better update support for the "without G" modell , easyer root ,bootloader unlock but as kodmusa shown, different bands
Need a better email app. The stock one doesn't push the emails...wish I could have the Samsung email

How reliable is "WillMyPhoneWork.net"?
According to that website, the A2017 is completely compatible with the service my carrier offers.
Here is a screenshot of the results:
https://gyazo.com/b7282b0dc1334e68ae75eff96ddff4cc
Also, if the A2017 is easier to root and unlock, it's probably going to be the best option.
You can root the g model same way as other models. LTE will work for you but with slower speeds, because some bands are missing.
So if the only plus that the A2017G model has over the A2017 is that the connection is a little bit faster, I think I can safely get the A2017 from Aliexpress for a cheaper price.
Thank you very much for your answers!

Have you ever dealt with RMA with China-based ASC's? You do know that ZTE Europe won't accept your device in case you need a repair, right?
Plus, you're wasting 3 years warranty, 6 months screen repair and & 3 years liquid spillage repair for what? A marginal dB difference in sound (did you even listened both models in person? Was that ever proved to be real?)? To save a measly 50€ IF you aren't caught by customs?
Why not just buy it via Amazon with Prime and return it for free in case you don't like it?
And in regard to the Bootloader, who's to say it won't be standardized in N?

So if the only plus that the A2017G model has over the A2017 is that the connection is a little bit faster, I think I can safely get the A2017 from Aliexpress for a cheaper price.
Thank you very much for your answers!

I would check at your phone operater which bands are needed for lte. Show them my screenshot just to be shure that lte will work.
I also recommend you to buy european version...
I would pick a better warranty over other features anyday. The headphone low volume already has a work around on these forums. If anything has to go wrong with your phone I think the warranty process will be a huge hassle with the Chinese model. I have a G version and the headphone is plenty loud as is.
Never say never as far as things that can go wrong with your phone goes. Even if you are incredibly careful with how you use your phone, you can't guard against manufacturing defects The only motivator for buying the Chinese one could be the lower cost. Is it worth your time if you end up wanting an RMA?

I'm sorry, but i bought the Chinese model because it has the 128gb storage and not because it's cheaper. Also, I've never used any warranty for any of my phone's.... Ever! So not bothered you much about that. Android phones are so easy to take apart and do any repair necessary. I'm very happy with this one.

Yes well however I was referring to the OPs situation and considerations not yours Also, it is important to consider that not all users are power users or are comfortable with taking their phone apart. The warranty is important in the case of a manufacturing defect as I mentioned which unfortunately is a known concern with some batches of this device. No one can deny the the Chinese model especially the 128 GB ones are cheaper on AliExpress but I suppose that one isn't available on Amazon anyway so it's safe to assume that the OP is looking to buy the 64 GB one Cheers!

4GB RAM upgraded of my Nexus 5X

My Nexus 5x was bought last year from Hong Kong and got a bootloop issue just after the warranty :crying: So far, i know google has known this issue and there is a recall in US, Korean LG has offered a unlimited warranty to this bootloop issue. However, LG customer center from Hong Kong has rejected any maintenance of the cpu if outside its warranty
Thereafter, i decided to send my 5x to China for CPU fixing, as the RAM is packed with the CPU together, the guy suggested me upgrading it to 3 or 4 GB RAM. That's how the 4GB RAM 5X comes out.
I've tested the OTA works fine from 6.0.1 to 7.1.1, all functions works fine too. :highfive:

How does it work? #106
Since i posted this post, i learnt something about the CPU from 5x, and how can it be upgraded, let me explain to you guys first. :highfive:
The packaging technique of 5x is using PoP, or package on package, which the processor package has pads on the top for the RAM chip and BGA on the bottom to attach to the PCB, its saves board space at the expense of assembly cost. This simply means the RAM sits on top of the SoC.
http://www.androidauthority.com/how-it-works-systems-on-a-chip-soc-93587/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Package_on_package
As fixing this bootloop issue, you have to remove the whole SoC+RAM block, so why not upgrade the RAM chip together?

Can you provide us an email address, or any other way to contact the guy who "upgraded" your 5X? I would be interested (me and many others) in ordering the necessary part/s, and to do the transplant/implant operation at a local service...
Thanks in advance!
