Carbon ROM official support, with your help. - Moto E General

Greetings.
Development for the Moto E has been progressing slowly. The few wonderful developers helping us have released builds with some issues that I'm sure with time will be resolved. They have lives and many other things to do, so I'm only grateful with them for taking the time to code for our "lower end" device.
That being said, and taking in consideration that our devices are low cost, could it be possible for us users to donate a few dollars each to send a device to a dedicated maintainer who is part of a development group?.
I personally love Carbon ROM. I have been using that ROM on different devices and always with the best of results. Simply put, I cannot use any other. It is as stable as CM, has all the right configuration options as AOKP, and coupled with Xposed, you can get your own perfect configuration.
I sent a private message to Carbon Dev, and they told me that as long as they have a physical device on hand, they can add it to the official list of supported devices.
I will donate $20. And I'm sure if every one of you can donate $1, we can easily get a Moto E to Carbon Dev in no time.
Is anyone else willing to help me to reach the proposed goal above detailed?.
Let me know, this could be a great alternative for our device.

I'm in!

I'm in with five bucks. Maybe more, if required.

Thank you for the couple of answers. But I think it's not going to be enough.
A shame since we non-developer users could help ourselves this way.
Anyway, it was worth a try.

I THINK...
Is more importan get oficial support from cyanogenmod... And with this files we can port other roms

I don't think there will be official support for dual Sim variant, as cm does not allow any device specific hacks in their builds. The single Sim variant got a chance.

If we atleast get a stable cm for single sim variant even then there are many who can add dual Sim support to it like there is for moto g...
How can we request cyanogen team to add device to official list...
Any online request page or email?

the procedure for making CM support official :
1- All the hardware working on stock rom should work in CM build
2- no FC should be there
3- After making it stable we have to give Full source code ( github repo. ) to CM official devs.
4- they try it for atleast 3 weeks then if they found almost stable CM then they add it to their official support

There is no term as a cm Dev. There are a lot of devs that post to cm builds.
If a new devices comes to the market, a new developer, who owns the device, can build cm for the device and fix issues, if any.
If cm makes it official, that particular Dev will be official maintainer for the device.

I think it would be the same procedure as Carbon Team. Give them a device.
I would not mind giving $20, but we all need to contribute. Giving thanks does not help in this very specific case.

Ya I know giving only thanks does not help in this very specific case but I should do that much what I can I do as I am still a 16 year old student who gets rs70 as pocket money per week. So I don't have that much amount of money to contribute but still I can contribute an amount less than or equal to Rs 200 if it helps. It was less amount so I didn't mentioned . I really want development for moto e.

But how come there are loads of Roms for moto g dual Sim variant ???????

Because it has official cm for single Sim and devs in large number

That is exactly why we need to give a device to one maintainer.

Till now we have 28$ but we need 105$ nearly (for me 1$=Rs.65 )

Anyone else willing to collaborate?. To this point, it does not matter if we give the device to CM or Carbon.

Contacting CM to update sources to KK

Hello friends.
As all of us see, LG released their KitKat sources long time ago. Our great developers like @dr87 @Savoca @houstonn and others made it with Their hard work to merge them so we have two stable / nearly stable roms: Mahdi and PA. But what with other roms? Most of the roms are based on CM, so they still have bugs.. During months, CM doesn't seem to have done ANYTHING.
So my question is, how about to send a message (or spam, in any way u name it) by all of us to CM, to the maintainer? We have official support, but in fact it's "support without support" in my opinion. Maybe after these messages they would finally start to do something, because it's like they forgot about G2...
Regards.
EDIT: so we have a way to contact => https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/secure/Dashboard.jspa
now we should make a well, polite message so everyone would copy it and drop there.
Another way it would be to ask the maintainer directly https://plus.google.com/+RicardoCerqueira
EDIT2: I gave a comment to Ricardo on Google+ here https://plus.google.com/+RicardoCerqueira/posts/4dc8kVBYuTq feel free to do it as well
The best bet would be to create an improvement note at their so called "Bug Tracker" considering that they are doing this for free, this would be the most polite form.
I support this initiative, but today be entirely honest M6 for me is almost bug free, fast and battery efficient.
Up to date sources is great, but if a rom is working well, I don't care if the sources are old!

I personally had CM for some time, and it never was so stable as Mahdi R1 which i have now. Besides that, a lot of roms like Carbon or Slim can't be simply updated from CM sources, so they still have bugs.

Just to clarify, roms that are based on CM do not need CM to upgrade to 4.4.2 sources. The upgrade is done in the device tree / vendor files and kernel. The rom source does not need any changes and each rom maintainer for the G2 has the power to upgrade their rom to 4.4.2 G2 sources without CM doing anything, they just need to figure out the specific device tree bugs for each rom and fix them.
I am under the impression you think CM needs to upgrade in order for CM based roms to upgrade, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong :good:

apparently theres a bit of confusion, there was some one nightly where the rotation wasnt working with the jb baseband, (im gussing on that nightly he used the kk source ) because flashing the kk baseband on that build fixed the rotation issue, but im not quiet aware of what the situation is ince im back on stock. anyways ill be swinging it on the latest nightly just to clarify my doubts. and im pretty sure they just want the maintainer to switch to kk source , btw nice to see you here hope your cooking something great for us

Well, in the past I had some Android phones, and CyanogenMod was always first with upgrading everything, and then other developers were basing their ROMs on these updates. I mean, they updated everything, end other ROMs were updated fast. They're not giving support which they were giving in the past, that's all.

Oh

CyanogenMod

Do you guys think cyanogen will eventually add this phone to its official supported devices?
Coming from a Nexus 5 with endless rom development It'd be a shame if this phone didn't see as much. Especially since it has such potential
No I don't think that oneplus two will get official cyanogen support, as oneplus dropped cyanogen and started using there own OxygenOs. In fact, I think that even future devices from oneplus will also never get official cyanogen.
So, unfortunately we will need to stay at unofficial builds only.
Hit thanks If I helped!!!

yes cm13 will be officially available soon! And you are wrong ! one plus had a bad breakup with cyanogen but theirs a diiference between how people work on cynogenos and cyanogenmod !It depends on the devolepers of each community on how they work on devolepment on a particular device but one plus two devolepment is insane so cm13 is on the way and if u are still concerned look at the devs of HTC 826 they made thier device get official support and dont worry as far as i know the devolpement for this device will be booming shortly !And theirs already a thread on CM 13 !
Hope that your words come true. But still I don't think so that cm13 will be available OFFICIALLY.

lol bro if they get unofficial builds perhaps in a week ..then tell ME why wont they make it official after a month !what one plus one had is the cyanogen os and not cyanogenmod !To make a device official in cyanogenmod u have to have good devolpment for a particular device and the works for cm13 is already started for op2 !Check out cm12.1 thread garak is working on cm13 and threres another thread called cm13
As i understand, in order to get an official support from cyanogen to our device there must be unofficial CM build, witch can be sent to CM team for a review. If it passes, has most things working, then they add it to their device tree and officially supports it. In other words, anyone there can take CM vendor and framework codebase and then go and start adding the code necessary to make CM work properly on OPT device. When developer gets far enough along, he can then submit that code back to CM for inclusion into CM's github. If that code passes the checks that the CM team has, then the CM team will merge that code into its own device tree and add official support for that device.
Also there are chance of CM team taking this step by their selves .. but there is probably no hope for that. So the only hope is Grarak
This information is found in the official CM forum so i doubt it is false.

I wish people would understand that these developers don't just magically have all the Asus phone models. They are all different inside, from CPU to GPU or screen size and partitions. They tend to buy a single model of their choosing for their own private use and then when they see no custom ROMs for their phone they decide to do it themselves. They are not working for Asus. They are every day people like you and me who are nice enough to release what they can for this community. If you wish to see CM or whatever custom ROM on your device you will either have to learn how to port it yourself or buy that specific model phone for someone who is willing to do it for you. Begging them to "make it soon" or "release now" makes you seem ungrateful and childish.
A big thanks to the people who work hard on these ROMs and release them for us to use.
-snip-
I appreciate all of done work by developers and very apologize for being ungrateful. I really understand that if we didn't get CM, we probably never would have it. Once I got answers, I have no more question and I hope for small chance to get it for our devices.
If I could help to them with testing for example, I would like to help, I have ZE550KL. But I have no skills in ROM stuff.

Requesting Donations to buy a Redmi Note 2 so it's easier for me to test CM 13

Hi there, I'm the developer of the CM 12.1 ROM for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 (here's my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/orig-development/rom-redmi-note-2-t3272872), and I'm currently working on CM 13 for this phone. As of now I have a few successful builds but none of them are booting, and it really bothers me when I have to flash it on my own daily driver, causing me to lose all my data and after that I will have to reflash CM 12.1 and restore my backup again, so I think it might be better if you guys could help me to get another Redmi Note 2, which will be used purely for ROM development which will in turn also speed up the development process, and as usual I'm accepting donations via my PayPal account, [email protected], you could also click the donate button on the left hand side if you're using a desktop. I'm looking forward to raise about $90, that would be enough for me to get a second-hand Redmi Note 2, and I have received $10 so far. I hope you guys will like my idea and support it, thanks!
Will keep you guys updated on this thread.

this topic is not about whether kernel xx works or not, he will figure it out. its about supporting a man that worked for us and spent his free time giving us a decent alternative to MIUI, now he needs our help to continue.

I do offer this for free, I'm not forcing anyone to donate and I'm indeed working hard to make it boot but sadly it hasn't. I can't work 24/7 on it as I also have my own life so I thought it would be best if I could just make things easier for me. And if you want a screenshot of the compiling process I can indeed provide you one since I'm not scamming anyone, or you could just check out my Github https://github.com/jianminglok.
And of course for the device bricking, not everyone has a PC ready every time and just in case anyone really gets his device bricked during testing, what can he/she do? I'm only looking for the most convenient way to develop for the device so I hope you could understand.

Here I'll post test ROM builds ported from Redmi Note 4X (SD625) for you to try them.
Use with caution. Bugs are expected.
If the build for the particular ROM is good enough I'll open a separated thread for it and will keep it updated.
See ya.

Wait a bit dude, I just opened the thread. The first builds are expected in the next 2-3 days. Note that I'll do this using my free time which is not that much.

Are you going for miui rom? If yes then I am in.
In my opinion the hardware of lenovo p2 plus miui rom is great combo.
Thanks, super news..

Just One Query, can you make VOLTE work ?
Thanks for those Efforts...
I might decide to unlock the bootloader if you manage to build a good rom better than stock keep up the good work!

Wow MIUI for our P2... What A fantastic news!
Maybe you can use the original Kernel source to make it full compatible with our device!

I don't have any knowledge of porting or building roms, but lack of development for our device is really disappointing. Thank God you jumped in. I was also thinking that redmi note 4 has almost identical hardware that of p2. Good luck, we are here to back you up (most probably as testers.) But I can promise that I shall put more effort in learning porting and building.
Btw, a debloated MIUI will definitely go very well with our p2. Also, kindly try to look into other non cm/aosp based roms like LEWA OS, FIUI, EMUI, EUI, COLOR OS, FUNTOUCH OS etc.
Answering your questions... I won't put any additional work on VoLTE as it's not available in my country, but still some ROMs may support it out of the box. Building a ROM better than stock is impossible, the stock Nougat ROM is near perfect imo. MIUI why not, I'm not a fan of it, but I know many others like it.

For me the only major issue with cutom roms is the not working audio slider during conversations (volume is fixed to a mid level) and the fact that during conversation with loudspeaker the other person can hear him/herself, making the conversation impossible. There are some related messages in other threads, look for my posts.
If you manage to fix this this device will almost be perfect, but I don't use volte and I seldom use wi-fi tethering.

Well, by "better" I mean in terms of battery life since I've read lots people saying that custom roms don't perform that good with battery. I would say that a custom rom is better than stock even if it could reach that battery life.
Maybe I should've explained myself better
