How do I obtain root for Android Wear? - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know about unlocking the bootloader by ADB, but how do I actually root my watch so I can install TWRP and eventually custom ROMs?
I have a Gear Live btw.

Well on the G Watch you have to boot a modified boot image in order to root the watch. Not sure if something like this exists for the Gear Live. You should probably post this in the Gear Live forums..
Edit: Just noticed you already did so I guess this can be closed then as it's device specific?
Edit2: Found this also: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-live/development/ear-live-stock-firmware-image-24jul14-t2827274

Wasn't sure if it's device specific or not, thanks for clearing that up! I thought the methods would be the same/extremely similar.

One thing has nothing to do with the other.
Lollipop requires some changes to have root access and that was only possible with a modified kernel.
Now Chainfire managed to root the Lollipop without a custom kernel.
But installing ZIP file of root need a custom recovery , so still need to have the device with unlocked bootloader .
I've done the root Lollipop using this new root method of Chainfire.

If you read the article it appears that there is no need to install a zip in a custom recovery to get root with this method.
" the need for ramdisk modifications was concerning for many users of bootloader-locked devices for which no unlock is available (yes, they do unfortunately exist). The answer to their prayers is now here"

Hmmm interesting.
Then the process should be with CF-Auto-Root .
I used one of those before when I first root in Lollipop.
But thought the command "mfastboot boot cf-auto-root.img" only work with unlocked bootloader and not the locked too.
Amazing.
Me excite!
You can only flash signed zips, so this only makes it easier because you dont need a device specific package for rooting

OF course
This revelation means that Android 5.0 users*no longer need to run a modified kernel to gain root access via SuperSU (or other root solutions). While not a huge problem on Nexus devices with unlockable bootloaders, the need for ramdisk modifications was concerning for many users of bootloader-locked devices for which no unlock is available (yes, they do unfortunately exist). The answer to their prayers is now here, and we can present an exclusive explanation of the changes needed. At least for now (until/unless Google patch this), it is possible to gain root access and then install and use SuperSU on a stock Android 5.0 device, without any kernel ramdisk tweaking. The reason for this is the need for SuperSU to run a service as root, to allow for unconstrained root access on SELinux-protected devices.
Bump. We need root. Can't believe nobody seems to be working on a workaround. No safestrap? No kexec? No root? What happened to our glorious hackers?

From what I understand, if you pop an activated Verizon SIM card into it, it'll work. Read that it'll work on the unlocked Nexus 6 too.

No, CDMA will not work, nor 3G. So you will be confined only to LTE service and Google Voice (or similar).

Is there any word of CyanogenMod or any other coustom ROMs for this device yet? Just picked up the LSMG550 this evening. Rooted using the guide in OP (also linked at the bottom of my post)
My question is this; Are there any coustom ROMs, or a bloated stock ROM for the LGMS550 (Metro PCS variant LG G Stylo 2 Plus)? I could not find any in my searches, but that is to say I didn't over look them.

So I have been using my phone rooted with boot loader unlocked... If I re-lock the bootloader does that remove root from the system??.. Sorry, a bit of a noob on this. Secondly, if locking back up the boot loader does not harm root is there a reason one should do so?

I don't think you can run root with bootloader locked,i could be wrong. But if you lock it your phone will probably reset itself to factory so I would think root would be gone. Also don't think the twrp will work with it locked
OK. I wasn't sure. This is first phone I had to Unlock the bootloader to gain root. My previous devices I used king root.. So this whole process of rooting the LG stylo 2 has been a learning experience. Thank you for your help.
How do I install V4A if I can't swipe to allow modifications. I don't want to brick or bootloop.
Nvm figured it out sorry for being a noob
Few tested Xposed module which works on stock ROM:
1) App Setting ( change DPI to 270 safely, anything below that will give you continuous phone app crash), you might have to change the LG system level apps(Phone, contacts, music, camera) DPI to 320 for them to work.
2) GravityBox MM (many options work) including the circle battery, clock, date, data speed indicator

Root for SM-t377a (ATT Galaxy Tab-E)

Is there a way to root the galaxy tab E that comes from AT&T? I've found a TWRP image for the SM-T377P version but nothing for SM-T377A which is what I have. I was thinking they might be cross compatible but if they were, I'm sure TWRP would have listed it on their site.
The option to OEM unlock is in the dev settings list so I'm thinking I can flash the recovery but I'm not sure on that.

Kingroot can't root my Galaxy Tab SM-T377A runnning 6..0.1 Marsmallow, I just want to uninstall or freeze those AT&T bloatware but I guess I have to wait coz I can't return it anymore...Thanks ..
Worst tablet ever. Att can't even get their software updates right. I can't use this as a phone because the stupid number sync software keep giving an error and no one at att knows how to fix it. I've tried different dialers and freezing them. Nothing works. Now I have com.android.phone is not responding and their is no firmware download anywhere to fix it. Now I have to factory reset the whole damn tablet lol. I'm going to sell the and get a Sprint unlocked version. What a shame. This tablet had potential too

You can Google "replace Kingroot with supersu". There is a 4 step method for replacing the temp Kingroot with chainfires SuperSu. Even if bootloader is locked. Just found one of these in Facebook marketplace for $50.

I think this tablet sucks, too. AT&T hoodwinked me into getting this thing, and now I'm stuck with it for 2 years. It's slow and choppy--I'd rather have an iPad. My "Next" contract is just about up, and I can't wait to dump their ass for another carrier.
Agree. Hoodwink is exactly what they did. This tablet is SLOW and the bloatware is chewing up RAM. I'm about to dump it for something else. Was hoping to be able to root it so I could kill off some of the bloat, but no joy....
-Z
I knew I should have checked here first... but at least I can return it... I figured a device of its age would for sure have custom roms and root. Stupid at&t! Guess I'm back on the search for a LTE tablet that works on at&t for under $300
Hi, recently I bought a cheap AT&T Tab E. It has only 4GB internal storage instead of 16, weird? The tab is almost useless because it has almost no space for new files/apps. Anyone knows what's wrong with the tab? Thanks

Totally new to rooting in general, and researching isn't going well as I don't have any context/experience yet...and the vocabulary is new. I have (literally just bought a few days ago) this version of the Tab E...and I'm trying to root it so I can use it more effectively as a head unit in my 03 F150. I'm finding out I bought the wrong unit to do this reasonably easily.
Would you mind posting a quick walkthrough of how this works? Install KingRoot and then replace it with Supersu to get the tablet permarooted?
Thanks!

Not a big fan of youtube instructional videos, first one available, not sure if its good........
https://www.google.com/search?q=rep...0j7&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#kpvalbx=1
This is a guide with a one-click .bat file to supposedly do this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/a310/general/how-to-remove-replace-kingroot-kinguser-t3308989
Directions for manual replacement:
https://missingtricks.net/replace-kingroot-kinguser-with-supersu-superuser-android-guide/
Remember, this is for you replacing "TEMP ROOT", not when a device is permanently rooted! This means being in the position of Kingroot barely getting temporary root that will be lost when device is rebooted!!! It involves using Flashify (by Chainfire as well) and authorizing it's root ability to flash.
As in every OP on XDA, do so at "YOUR OWN RISK".........

If anyone found a way to downgrade kindly pls tell me

Custom-ish ROM (Possible TWRP/ROOT) for J327T1(?)

I have compiled for you an Odin-Flashable downgrade to original Nougat ROM.
Does NOT have Google FRP in this version (the ROM came stock this way; unmodified), this is useful if you forgot your Google email.
Download Odin3 and the .tar file HERE
- Open Odin v3.12.7
- Plug in phone to PC
- Simply boot into download mode (Powered off- Hold HOME+POWER+VOLUME DOWN)
- Click AP
- Select J327T1.tar
- Click Start
Once it finished it will reboot and update. It is going to get stuck on 32%, do not worry.
It will take a second, but the recovery menu will pop up. Select Reboot System and it will take some time to get to the OS but you will eventually have Nougat pop up and ready to go!
Enjoy!
*UPDATE*
In the download links I have the "Factory Binary" Custom ROM. It's pretty useful in messing with the phone software, although I do not know the specific use. Use the same method above to install the ROM.
Also, I do believe you can edit the .tar and add TWRP by downloading the recovery.img from my link and replacing it in the .tar and following the same steps. I have not tested because I was helping my brother access his phone because he forgot his Google account after he reset his phone.

Ok so its not truly the factory binary, its an emulator of that, meaning any changes were not flashed over as in other devices. but i have been thinking and, i'll post this in the original as well, magisk....only works if you completely wipe the device first, same with custom roms, i never tried that when i had the j3, bricks be damned we got odin3 and i got scripts to get outta brick an into download.
if someone would be ao kind as to factory reset and tr installing twrp, that wuld be amazing, i have been working with the note 4 sprint variant and there are a few steps in installng custom roms that we were over looking

Only way I can help you is by telling you go buy yourself a PC if you're going to start routing and or developing the firmware on Android devices it is extremely hard nearly impossible these days with Android devices running version Android 6.0 and up to root without a PC the best and easiest way I've found to root a Android device is to First install a custom recovery like TWR p or ClockworkMod and have a unlocked bootloader then from there you can easily download SuperSU and Flash it with a firmware flashing application like ClockworkMod ROM manager that is downloadable on Play Store what I'm trying to say is if you are using kingroot or kingoroot you're going to be hitting that button 4 million years and nothing will happen either by an Android that has a lower version like any version below 5.0 or get yourself a computer and do some research because it is very easy to do the stuff as long as you know what you're doing if you don't it seems way more complicated than it actually is you're in the right place here on XDA to learn everything you need to know so you're off to a great start I hope this helps have a good one good luck
So is there no way we can downgrade further to a firmware that includes the developer option to oem unlock?... I'm about to try and flash what the op posted right now... I'll post results

Android P Developer preview

So far it's great, I know a lot of people won't like the left hand clock and the other visual changes but I personally love them. Battery standby seems amazing so far but it's too early to tell.
You can use this thread to talk about Android p, installation questions or report what apps don't work/misbehave.
I've noticed a few apps pop up a toast message mentioning a possible mismatch on API but so far I haven't had an FC.
Cheers. ?

Any way to side load on a Verizon pixel?
Agreed with the op. So far it's pretty great and the UI changes are pretty cool. Reminds me of a substratum themed deal now.
Interesting. Choose pixel theme , change it to large display cutout and it makes your pixel look like iphone x. WTF Google?

Yeah probably so Devs can prepare Android apps for notches. I actually like the larger status bar but obviously without the notch. I wonder if someone can do this.

Something else new I noticed.
Ability to change DNS settings within connectivity settings
I'd love to try this but I can't. I'm trying via sideload and getting footer is wrong, signature verification failed, error 21. Does it have to be a manual flash instead of sideload? If so, that may be an issue since Verizon had to replace my Google purchased Pixel (no more warranty from Google but I have a VZW extended warranty). I think I now have the Verizon version where there were questions about unlocking the bootloader. I've only had it for a week so I haven't looked into the possibilities of unlocking.

I just sideloaded it on my Verizon pixel. Had the same error because it wasn't fully downloaded when I tried to sideloaded it. Thought it was but it wasn't. Stupid mistake but had the same error. Worked great when I let it actually download haha.

I wish that were the case. I downloaded it and moved it into a different folder. Same issue. I also tried a different PC, wishful thinking, but it still didn't work. Is your bootloader unlocked? I thought sideload didn't require it but my next step was to look into unlocking it but I won't if it's not needed.

Bootloader isn't unlocked. Doesn't need to be to sideloaded it. Is it in platform tools folder?
