LG G4 Rumors Already Circulating. - G4 General

I know it's early folks, but i did some searches on LG G4 just to see what came up, and a few articles I came across are saying "this is what you can see in the LG G4. Of coarse they are just rumors, but this would be one powerhouse of a device.
64-Bit Qualcomm Snapdragon Chip (808)
Dual Channel RAM Scaling To 4GB (2×32 Bit-LPDDR3)
2 Inch Ultra Pixel Camera Sensor With OIS (21 Mega Pixel)
4K Video Recording At 60 FPS
4600mAH Battery (New Technology)
5.7 inch UHD IPS Panel 3840x2160 (772 PPI)
Android 5.0
Bigger Rear Power Button Acts As A Touchpad
Front Facing 2 Watt Stereo Speakers

I'll tell your this, some specs will get nerfed and rumors will blow things up. I always thought the g3 will have an 805 snapdragon.

There is probably *some* truth to this. I heard that its common for manufactures to always work ahead like that. I read an article from an LG rep who was talking about the designing of the LG G3 while the G2 was being released. Basically as soon as the user reports start coming in on what people liked and didn't like about the G2 they got right on development for the G3.
I think car companies are they same way. If you were to go to a dealership today and buy a 2014.5 or 2015 model, they are probably already working on the 2016/17.
My guess is that this is because It takes awhile to manufacture and build up an inventory before a release. And rather than sit on their butts they get working on the next project.

I could of told you this as soon as the specs for the G3 were confirmed.
As soon as the Note 4 comes out, Note 5 rumors will be .1 bigger screen, bigger battery, 815 snapdragon, 4gb of ram, 20mp camera, Android 5.1 and so on...

Easy enough to import if you dont mind the price and more than likely locked bootloader.
If i pay $1000 for a device the damn bootloader had better be unlocked!

I would never spend an extra $400 for a device with a mildly fast cpu/gpu and locked bootloader.
Im happy with my slow snail performing 801 lg g3 with unlocked bootloader lol. [emoji57]

Well obviously there's something in the works. It's not like when they finalized the G3 their whole development team takes a six month break. The instant the G3 hit the production line they started working on the next.
The rumors are just rumors though. Absolute guesswork with nothing but 'well based on the upgrade from G2 to G3..."

I got the T-mo LG G3 a week after it came out.
I'd be pretty bummed if a g4 comes out soon, g3 would be on back burner.

yeah, i am experimenting with messing with roms. hopefully i can contribute to the g3's development in some way.

As others have said, of course they are working on it and of course it will be better spec'ed. I think though I can honestly say I don't care, I gave my g2 to my daughter months ago while I played around with other phones waiting for the g3 and really, for my uses the g2 is just fine. It feels like a better device in day to day uses compared to my g3 and ROM support naturally is better. I think I am finally going to just stick with a phone for a while instead of always jumping on the next big thing so to speak. Only reason I would consider swapping phones again for is if android suddenly requires a 64bit cpu or we never get AOSP based builds.

I heard LG G5 will be even more powerful..so surprised !!!

I recently made the switch to Verizon and a contract of 2 years. I still have my family plan with tmobile, just gave my phone to the rents'.
Had to have better coverage for my area, but also realize these phones anymore all in all do generally the same thing. I'll be rocking this g3 for sometime I'd imagine, unless something crazy comes out and if so, sell this one and get the new one. Like old school jump program, lol!
Really though, it's gonna have to be crazy!

Chh, the G5 is nothing compared to the G6!

I heard the next one will have a 17.3" screen, fold-out keyboard with touchpad, multiple USB ports, gigabit LAN capability, upwards of 2GB graphics, and a 64-bit i7 processor.......oh wait....

Problem is its an LG, it will be supported for 6 months after release and no more.
That's if you're lucky.

And even after that - it lags (only a few times but QUAD S4! - unforgivable), no removable battery and fugliest interface ever. It'll definitely wipe other phones... so they can look shiny and new.
Until ofc. it gets proper CM10 - THEN it'll kill.

Sorry didn't get completely what you meant to say my bad
Maybe now the s4 pro owners will be able to use emulators at full speed xD on dual crait the SoC sucked totally at this point^^ personally I dont care about this^^ my s3 int. is still better imo the only thing my phone lacks is LTE, but at the time I got it it wasnt available at europe.
I'm sorry to say this but this beat the hell out of our S3 in general...
But i'm happy for two reasons...
1)Lg's ui sucks...
And
2)When we'll have android 4.2,5.0 or whatever they'll still be stuck in the previous version as always!
As this thread is off topic and will probably be locked soon, i just wanna say i personally would forget about anything LG releases. Take a look at their 'flagship' optimus 2x and the fact that it was released when gingerbread was the latest and despite ics and jellybean's release, it is still on gingerbread today! I have absolutely zero confidence in LG in terms of android upgrades and would never recommend anyone to buy an lg android phone.
My apologies for the off topic rant.. Just felt the need to put the warning out..

Just have some patience guys. This new qualcomm chipset will start popping up in new HTC and Samsung phones. Once that happens it will be time to upgrade from the S3. For now I wouldn't even touch the LG phone.

Yup all true but if you are on XDA I don't care about official rom upgrade/support. I will personally go for best hardware there is.
Launched with Ice Cream Sandwich? Seriously?
This thing has nice specs but software and device support is also just as important.
It's running an OS that was launched October of LAST YEAR, on top of it it will have LG's nasty UI overlay.

If you could, would you use the Moto G for a year and wait for the LG G4?

I've been following this phone for a while, and while I think it'll be the best flagship out this cycle for me, I'm still not too happy with the fact that it's an 801 processor trying to push a 1440p screen.
I'm still split between waiting out about a year for the G4 while using the Moto G or just taking the plunge and getting this phone. Hopefully an 810 processor (or 808 at the worst) should be able to handle the screen without battery/heat/staggering issues.
For people who've used this phone for a while, if you could return your G3 for a full refund and wait for the G4 with a Moto G, would you?

As mentioned by someone else, the screen resolution hardly impacts performance, the 801 chip can handle a 4k screen pretty easily, the problem lies with optimisations, the G2 was the same when it came out, but software updates made it the phone we know for speed today.
, I personally have no heating issues on software 10H, lag does exist but its just a few frame rates, its as fast as any other 801 at opening apps. The moto G is a nice phone, your best bet is holding out until LG fix issues with a software update.
I have both a Verizon prepaid MotoG and just recently a Verizon LG G3. Both are very nice phones. I use the G3 though.
Yup.. on initial my firmware 10b alot of people were quick to judge the capability of the 801 due to the micro-stutters.
Right now I'm on 10j and all seems well. You'll be surprised how well the 801 handles the 1440p display.
And for your question.. personally, no. The G4 will bring in more unknown issues and satisfaction will never be there. If budget is an issue, then wait and save up. If not, I rather just get the latest and greatest right now.
I sense alot of people are eagerly waiting for a 805 device but the fact is it's aint leaps better. The nVidia K1 is a better beast. So I'm sensing if the G4 may not be alot better than the G3 depending on the chip they use. And if they go beyond 5.5", I'm totally out. Smartphone technology seemed to be saturated at this moment.
One can always wait for the next greatest product. We don't know anything about the G4 so how can anyone advise you to wait for it - or not?
When do you think the g4 will come out? That seems like a long wait..
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I think that issues you mention is software maturity problem. Mostly solved in 10j firmware. It play games smoothly so i dont see any problem with 801 on 1440p, maybe in benchmark but i dont play bench.
Im not gonna trade G3 with any other phone at the moment.
If Xiaomi Redmi 1s arrived earlier in my country, I'd bought it first then wait for Nexus 6...
But I'm satisfied with my G3 now.
The phone (G3) is great but if you feel no reason to upgrade, I'd say wait.
There's always going to be something better around the corner.
If anything, wait until you're so intrigued by a phone that you don't have to ask yourself that question and you'll just go along and buy it.
New Tegras on the way, those should be nice.
So the G4 won't have any issues? Once any flagship device drops you can be assured that there will be issues associated with that device.
i wouldnt have the moto g in the first place..i would have gotten the n5 instead
I would, rite the way. I regret buying this phone and i am thinking about selling it and going back to my nexus 4 and wait for the next nexus.

Really? I've got the nexus 4 now and have had it since it came out and I'm looking for an upgrade. I want a bigger screen, better battery and camera.
Why do you regret the purchase?
My nexus 4 is in mint condition, rooted bit stock and never overclocked. This one is only a few months old as I did a warranty replacement. Let me know if you are interested in selling and swapping.
The problem with waiting for new models is that there are always new models coming out. It is a tough call especially when not knowing about certain models and what they will offer.

I have my nexus 4 that's why I'm thinking about switching back but thanks for the offer only thing I would miss is the big screen and the camera but overall the nexus 4 feels snappier than my G3 a lot of times...
My nexus4 developed the same dead area in the center of the touchscreen that most of them do eventually. I still have it, but my Nexus5 and now my G3 are a lot more fun. I also have a MotoG and it fits really nicely in my hand - the G3 is really just a bit too big for complete comfort, particularly with any kind of case on it (necessary).
That little MotoG is really a remarkable device.
Thanks, still love my nexus 4 but really getting itchy for something new.
Is your main reason for not wanting the lg g3 just the lag? I'm hoping that stuff will be fixed with updates..
I may end up waiting for the note 4.. Not sure yet but really looking for a larger screen now.

Well, basically yes, the phone is not fluid, and I also started to have the shutdown/reboot bug. All of these I believe to be a hardware issue, and I think LG should recall and replace all these units. It's not nice having a meltdown on a phone. I also think is behind with software, Sony devices are already on 4.4.4 while we are on 4.4.2 (at least me). Also the UI is fugly and unoptimized imo, after having Sony and Nexus devices, I would say Song's UI is the sexiest, if I can't get that, I'd go aosp. But I do like how sexy the phone looks like, I like the camera but the options are limited - there I think again, Sony leads the way -, and I like the remote control. The screen would be awesome if it wouldn't be the reason of the overheating - with the other hardware elements together of course.

Then just get a Note 4.
The 801 has more than enough balls for the qhd display. I can play games smoothly with my cpu and gpu downclocked.

Are people honestly reacting like this?

Damn you Google! How dare you charge the actual price for the phone? We wanted you to pay for some of the phone again. Doing it twice for us (when we didn’t even ask) isn’t good enough!
The phone with a 2560x1440 OLED screen, 3220mAh battery, 13mp OIS camera, 2.7ghz quad core CPU, 3gb ram, adreno 420 GPU, 32/64gb storage, 4K video capture, metal frame and fast charging should have been $350!! Damn you for not giving this to us!
Seriously..
I agree, people are never satisfied.
You forgot the 84,000 LTE bands
Yeah, I understand that were all sticker shocked because it's not low-cost like the last two releases but come on... This is basically the zero-compromise "premium" Nexus we've been waiting for years now (minus the 6" screen).
Nexuses were never known as low-cost devices either, sure they somewhat were cheaper then other flagships at the time, but not zero profit cheap. The last two (N4, N5) have spoiled users.
This sounds like a typical fanboy response. It may be a good phone but it's not being sold at cost like you seem to think. Just because someone criticizes something or has a different opinion doesn't make them wrong. I for one want to way the pros AND the cons before I blindly follow just because I "love" google.
And besides, the nexus line was never meant to be the best phone in the world, it was a reference phone with good hardware at a good price, and the fact that they went a different route is what upsets some people.
the phone does not have a sd slot, only 32gb and 64gb, no ir blaster, outdated front camera, no removable battery, no fingerprint sensor, no heath rate monitor, and using last years amoled display..it does not compete with other's flagships devices i think it shouldnt worth that much

Watch out. those are some flame war statements.
Anyways... It does have this:
Nexus experience
Stereo Speakers - Front firing
Wireless Charging + Turbo Charging
Worldwide LTE bands (it really does support a ridiculous amount of bands, US and everywhere else)
Not to mention no other phone besides the Note 4 has the same beastly specs and it costs $100 more. So how can you say it can't complete with other flagships? Your argument is without merit.

The note 4 has everything youve mentioned except..it does not run pure android and does not have front speakers and sm n910c (note 4) runs exynos 5433 64bit which performs better than snapdragon 805 and have better battery life
I don't have so much of a problem with Google for charging $650 for that but rather for not offering a smaller, somewhat scaled-down, more affordable 2014 model handset. Not everyone wants a phablet after all.

The Note 4 doesn't have as many worldwide bands as the N6 at all. And wireless charging isn't built-in, it's an add-on.
Battery life remains to be seen. "Project Volta" is coming and Stock Android should provide less strain than TouchWiz. If anything they'll be about the same.
And you just proved my point, the Nexus 6 matched the mighty Note 4 and it only beats it in camera performance.
The fact is: The Note 4 and N6 are both beasts and have both have exclusive features for different sets of users. You can't go wrong either way...

I have a Note 3. I never use the IR blaster, front camera, never remove the battery, could give two craps less about a fingerprint sensor or a health rate monitor...
No SD slot sucks, but I have a large Dropbox and 25gb of cloud storage per device through Verizon as part of my plan.
Clearly you nor anyone else here quite knows which screen it has yet. But as long as it's at least as good as the Note 3, in which case it's better.....
I mean.... how badly do you want to hate a good thing?
Heart rate monitor. lol.
Have to check your heart rate when people are bashing the note 4. Lol

Yea.... i have to agree with whoever it was that said the main difference between the Note 4 and Nexus 6 is the camera. Otherwise, the specs are basically identical.
@hello00 Yes, the SM-N910C has an Exynos 5433 chipset. But that's basically the only one that DOESN'T have a Snapdragon 805 chipset as far as i'm aware, and it isn't designated as a phone for the US market.
either way you look at it, i'd much rather have the Nexus 6. I mean... who in their right mind would want to have a phone that ACTUALLY ADVERTISES having a "Selfie-optimized front facing camera"? Sure as balls not me.
I'd have to agree with OP. Google held nothing back this time around and it shows in the price.
From what has been said the N6 uses the same Sony sensor as the G3 which has a great camera. I think it has the right hardware and software to justify the cost. I own a G3 cat 6 (SD805 model) and its a great phone. I am buying the N6 because I miss stock android and the ~6in screen is awesome. I had a Note 3 and I liked the large display, the G3 was a step down in size, but with a 6in 2k display I think I'll be happy. The SD805 is still a great SoC and with stock Android Lolipop it will likely be very smooth with hopefully good battery life. I will buy a N6 even if it has a AMOLED from the Note 3 era because that display is still very good compared to others and I never had any burn in.

Yes I'm a complete nexus fanboy despite the fact if you look at my post history, my last few phones are Sony Z3, Galaxy S5, One M8, LG G2, Galaxy S4 (i9505 and i9500).
For reference, the last truly great nexus phone was the Galaxy Nexus. The Nexus 4 I returned after a week, and the Nexus 5 was so horrendous I didn't even bother. But yes, I'm a nexus fanboy.

Are you, LG G2 owners, upgrading to the LG G4?

Hello XDA.
This is a thing that has puzzled me a bit, so first I'll present my own point of view and then I'd really like to hear what you guys think.
You can see pictures of the G4 here http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-G4-leaks-in-all-of-its-glory_id68166
My G2 has served me really well, and honestly it doesn't have to be replaced. It's still very fast and gets the job done. However, after 1 ½ year it gets old - it has never been the most interesting phone design-wise and with the new phones having a much more attractive design you get tempted. Add to that, that the battery isn't what it used to be either. What made me buy it back then, was it's absolutely fantastic internals at an affordable price. And I don't regret purchasing it.
The LG G4 looks great - especially in leather - and the fact that it has MicroSD support and a removable battery means that I won't run short of storage (especially when flashing and keeping backups on the phone) and wiping internal storage is no longer a headache. The camera is supposed to be brilliant, but we'll have to see how it works out in real life. The screen looks promising - rumors say it's using 'Quantum Dot' display which results in better color accuracy and is more battery efficient. All good so far!
But according to the latest rumors, this thing comes with a Snapdragon 808. And mildly put, it doesn't look too well. Sure LG didn't have many options - either go with the overheating 810 or put in a worse 808. Not only is the 808 worse than the 810, it's also worse than the 805 in terms of GPU capabilities and power. It's not much but last year most people considered a Snapdragon 805 the absolute minimum requirement for a phone with a QHD display. We all saw how the LG G3 performed with its QHD display - it wasn't bad, but by no means impressive.
I think that LG should've sticked to the 810 and disable two of the four A57 cores on a kernel level. I'm sure a 4+2 setup is plenty processing power, but the Adreno 430 GPU outperforms the Adreno 418 (found in the Snapdragon 808) by a huge margin. In addition to that, Snapdragon 810 supports DDR4 RAM.
I'm torn, and thinking to wait for the Samsung Note 5 and hope it won't come with a UHD display. What are your thoughts?
The Lg g2 had been my best ✆ for three years. It was gorgeous, it was very fast, it lasted all day.
I wasn't impressed with the G3 but I think the G4 has my name written on it. They've had some time to play with the configuration, I'm sure it will be excellent.
They're going to have to crank up the design next year though. Just saying.

eh i will skip G4 becouse i bought my G2 one year ago and i still need to stay with it for 12 months, but i will probably buy G5 or other 2016 flagship phone
As lg phones are locked down, I'm not gonna buy it. The g2 is great and is still the greatest phone they made. But as a flashaholic and someone who likes modding their phone, an unlocked bootloader is very important to me. I only bought the g2 because it was such great value. It turned out to be such a powerful and fun little beast though with a great community as well. It was lightening in a bottle. But my criteria is a bit more strict now. I'll be sticking with the 1+ for a while
No need. I see no advantage to upgrading because my G2 can do everything I need it to. When I get another phone it'll be a nexus or the Asus Zenphone 2, whichever has the larger community.

Either this or I just may break down and grab a Note 5 or S6 Edge after they iron the initial kinks out.
We'll see... G3 is a good phone and would rank higher if the G2 didn't exist but wasn't great enough to make me sell My G2.
With that said...let the games begin
I don't think I'll buy a G4, but I'm pretty sure that my G2 will dress the G4 rom...so do I·

With the G2 being a beast phone there's really not enough to convince me why I should upgrade to the G4 besides the Camera, Removable Battery and Expandable Storage. I live perfectly fine without a Removable Battery and Expandable Storage and the G2 has 32GB of Internal Memory and a 3000mAh battery.. so why bother? There's more chance of me getting a 1+ if I was going to upgrade. I have yet to experience a world with an unlocked bootloader.
Yay for capitalism!
Any like @siggey said,

This will more than likely happen.
G2 is great with me, but looking for better camera with G4.
FullHD is enough, 2k is not really necessary. More important thing is the battery life - which many people said that 2k display on G3 made the battery worse.
I think like the OP. I have a vs980 but I'm seriously thinking about jumping to T-Mobile. I thought I read last year that LG was going to allow unlocked bootloaders going forward with the G3. Given the fact that the G4 has a Snapdragon processor, an external SD card slot and removable batteries I'm thinking there is a lot of potential for a large dev community (especially since the S6 doesn't offer these things). We'll see.
No. I went back to the g2 from the g3 because I didn't like the size. I would get a g4 mini iff it was 5-5.2 and had a high end processor. As it stands now, the s6 and s6 edge look like more suitable replacements
I'm tired of drama
I'm not going to use LG anymore, LG does not satisfy me.
Having owned a few Android devices, I am getting a feeling that the best way to get android experience is to buy a Nexus device. The hardware and the price are only a part of the equation, although we know Nexus devices normally have a great price-performance relation. What makes Nexus so cool is having less pre-installed bloat or custumizations and it's pretty much guaranteed that for the next three years or so you will be the first in the line to get the android updates. Case in point is the stock ROM situation with the current G2. It gives you a glimpse of what it will be like to use the G4 18 months from now. Even though Lollipop 5.1 has come and gone, and the Nexus devices are now running the latest revision of Android 6.0.x, the G2 is still on 5.0.x. Another great example is my Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablet that I bought only a year ago. (This was Samsung's flagship tablet in 2014). Same story here. Still using 5.0, and I imagine Marshmallow is something like six months away and it will be the final update from Samsung. On the other hand, the ancient Nexus 7 is still getting Marshmallow updates.

LG G4 PRO Coming in October

The new LG G4 Pro is coming this october
The specs are:
Screen: 5.8" 1440x2560
SoC: Snapdragon 820
RAM: 4GB
Storage: 32/64GB
Camera: 27MP
Case: Metal
Do you think the G4 was premature and do you feel like LG ripped you off.

Jury is still out, but an upgrade less than six months after debuting......that's not going to sit well with a LOT of people.
No I don't. It's good to have options and price wise the G4 is well worth it. Its like the S6 line up or the iPhones. They all have different versions of the same device so why not LG G4?

And its still just a rumor, both the availability of the phone and those specs you posted.
There is no guarantee it's a global release. It's a bigger phone so doesn't really interest me going away from my G4. I think 5.5 is the perfect size for a screen.
5.5" screen is as big as I'll go with a phone so I'm content with the G4, if anything I could always use my Jump if I wanted to get this phone.
Reasons I'm not bothered:
1) Only rumours, so who really knows
2) The G4 is still a fantastic phone
3) The G4 is a particularly fantastic phone for the PRICE (which is easily £100-200 cheaper than almost all current rivals)
4) The G4 Pro will be super expensive. I don't pay stupid money for phones out of principal, so I'd probably sit it out anyway.
Go for G4 Pro "only' if you need bigger screen or fablet. Otherwise, G4 5.5" is perfect for use.
All rumors 5.8 btw is way to big ! 5.5 is really the max to handle with one hand .
Verstuurd vanaf mijn LG-H815 met Tapatalk
It's wayyyy to big! G4 is pushing the size already. I won't do any bigger! G4 is all good in the hood.
depends on the price they release the G4 Pro at, and the size too. the increased size will be a limitation for some. I've had the g2, g3 and now the g4, and even though the g4 is only marginally larger than the g3, it was noticeable to me. I'm not sure I want a Nexus 6 sized phone. Plus I can jump in Jan 16 if it's worth it.
I think it is a sealed unit. No thanks
Doesn't bother me. I basically see it as the Galaxy S and Note line situation. First half of the year is reserved for the flagship with a smaller screen and later in the year the bigger device gets released with an obvious spec bump.
Who cares. If we bought phones based on what comes out in 6 months then we would never pull the trigger.

You might be glad to have this phone. According to that specs it won't be anywhere close to $600 range. I'm guessing more like $800 - $1000. And did Qualcomm announce snapdragon 820? I know they announced SD810 revison 2 or something.

That device is already well into tablet territory. I'll stick with my LG G4. Owning an LG G4 Pro would not justify me owning a Nexus 7.
I can barely handle the G4 5.5" one handed. The G2 was really the sweet spot. If they designed the G2 similar to the G4, with a curved back/screen, I could probably do 5.3 or 5.4 comfortably. 5.5 is just a hair outside of my comfort zone but is manageable.

This really cannot be emphasized enough. Remember how the first alleged G4/G4 Note leak from late March by that T-Mobile employee actually turned out to be the mid-range Stylo? October is a long way away and nobody gets it correct this early.
As for my thoughts:
The G4 is already borderline in terms of comfortably fitting in my pocket. It already doesn't fit the cupholder of one of my cars and barely fits in the cupholder of the other.
G4 : G4 Pro :: Galaxy S6 : Galaxy Note 5
I needed a new phone 3-6 months ago.
If you keep waiting for something better to come out, you'll never buy anything.
I heavily considered the Nexus 6 as it is the only BL unlocked phone on VZW. In the end though, it was just to big to carry in a pocket for me.
