What I understood is the memory card is behaving as read only which means adding files to it acts normally but after a short while its back to the same condition before adding them and if that's true please confirm it

yes sir

Well, sorry to tell you but you have a faulty card only thing you can do is backing up your files and tell sandisk they will either tell you to send it and they will send a new one back or to break it and shoot a picture for it to proof honesty in both ways they will send a new one this issue happened to me twice last time they said they fixed the producing line which had this issue with both 32gb and 64gigs and i must say the last one (same packaging as the new 128gb card) worked so far so great the last 2 didnt continue for more than 2 months anyway they will replace it isA

maybe he did but anyway they going to ask for the serial number behind the card which is a pain in the ass to read but in case he read it right xD they going to know for sure if it's genuine or not but so you know sandisk on launch of the 32 and 64gb sdxc specially ultra and extreme there was a "read-only trigger" so they call it was sth of a card lock in case the card was going to damage like a fuse xd so that trigger in those cards go for some cases now the cards which triggered was like 98% of the cards… so yea they removed the idea and just made it harder to corrupt or something i don't really know what they did after but as i know..it work like a charm after that

No he didn't buy a fake Sandisk card. Usually Sandisk cards love doing this when it detects a hardware flaw in which it enters a state of read-only mode.
My 64GB UHS-1 Class10 decided to die on me that day, I transferred a ROM file over into my microSD, then when I rebooted the file wasn't there. As well as trying to reboot my phone after deleting 42gb of data, the data still remained, even though Windows explorer told me that it was deleting with fluctuating I/O speeds. Sandisk did a good job in failproofing this device so that when it malfunctions you can still grab your old data.

I actually could refund mine, but I've used mine for over a year. I bought a Samsung replacement which reads files much faster.
OP you should give those a try.

yep that's the trigger going and device to read-only state of mind xd which is brilliant and fail itself because it is going in so much conditions some of them if the file state is changing for some time which means in some cases downloading xD anyway i knew that after 2 cards which was my trigger

Mount your phone as a disk drive. When windows asks if you want to scan and repair go for it.
That doesn't work your sd card is hosed. Pick up a new one with a higher speed class off of new egg.
Copy everything from the sd to your computer and copy over to the new card.

Check out the 16GB Class 10 Wintec on NewEgg. I've had mine since I picked up my shift and it's been great. I think it goes for about $25.
My phone started doing this yesterday. Its done it with 7 cards so far. 3 are new.
I went back to work today, on the inland waterways, stuck without sd access for a month. Now clockwork can't mount it half the time.

Thanks, will check it out.
Update: Definitely an internal problem. I thought it was just an error in MIUI but it's showing up in every rom now. I can format all of my cards and mount to flash. Within an hour I get the Damaged SD Card error.

Do the sd cards wiggle around in the concave area it lays in? Before writing a dissertation about my guess of what it might be, I will ask this first.
When it's plugged into the computer, phone and cable, how do you disconnect the phone from the computer?
Does ruu back to 100% stock produce the same results?
Are you overclocked?
Are the cards all the same size and from the same manufacturer?

I've got three wintechs and four sandisks. Fit snug. I always unmount from comp side then unmount from phone side. Only time I mount at all is in recovery, actually.

Edit: sizes range from 2gb to 16gb, and I have formatted all cards just to make sure they were the right file system and not ext2(3/4) reiser... so on.
Well if putting a piece of paper the size of the card on top of the card, then pushing the lock bar down doesn't help then I would take it to a sprint repair center. The paper needs to be thicker than sheet paper. Like one of the cards they have inside magazines for a subscription or maybe a post card. That should help keep the card stationary and better contact with the pins for the SD card. If that doesn't help then I would ruu back to complete stock, format a card in the phone and put some files on it. Nothing that could remotely be associated with roms or rooting or unlocking then find a sprint repair place. Take it there and try to make it corrupt the card in front of the tech. They might take it apart to see if something is loose or broken. If it can't be fixed quickly and easily, they will probably give or order a refurbished. If you are lucky you might get a new one. Don't give them a hard time when you are there or they can make life suck for you.

Yeah, it'll be fun lol. I'm on a boat for a month anyways so I'm screwed.
At least I've got fastboot!
If you need to save or whatever a file, you could just send it as an email attachment to yourself. I don't know if there's such a program as something that makes a virtual drive online. I dunno. I'm just trying to think of ideas to use until you can get it fixed.
How about bluetooth file transfer to a computer or another phone...

New SD Card after update

Well.. after yelling at tech support people for I don't know how long, they made sure my latest replacement had the new firmware update.
The Bad News First.... it is no better. It crashes, but now it seems that sometimes it catches itself first and throws itself out onto the home screen. What happens then is, that you can't enter an app (including things like the market and people). I just loads and kicks right back onto the home screen before booting. To get this to stop you have to reboot. So instead of crashing now, it essentially forces you to reboot the phone to use it. Fantastic stuff Dell.
The Even Worse.... None of the other 4 phones I had ever had any error pertaining "directly" to the memory card (though I still think the memory card is causing all of this). The phone now 2 has given me the non-compatable card error, and the first time was at the very first initial boot up of the phone. Bravo Dell.
So Im sick of worrying about the warranty. By the time this gets fixed the phone is going to be so out of date, most of the apps won't play on it anyhow. What they are doing is criminal, but there is nothing that is getting done unless a bunch of you jump on the class action table with me.
But anyhow.. to my real question. I am done with this mess and am going to swap a new card in. The phone came with NoDo, but when it booted it updated with the security patch. What is going to happen when I swap cards after an update? And if so what can or should I do? Any help is appreciated... thanks in advance.
Replacing the sd card requires a hard reset and you will be back at the OS version you were before you did the reset. The procedure to replace the card is here:

Only thing I would say is try and use a Sandisk Class 2 card, they seem to have the best compability.

My brother's phone has a layer of dust particles under the screen, probably covering like 75% of the screen real estate. He doesn't want to go through the hassle with calling Dell and getting a replacement sent out so we're probably going to go to the Microsoft Store where we purchased the phones and see if they will do a swap. I've heard they're very helpful in that regard.
They really need to do some quality control on this - the dust issue is pretty terrible and I would have thought it would have been fixed by now. We've had the phones since November/December and I thought the dust issue was a one off flaw.
Once I get a unit with no dust, Im pulling the card. The error THE STOCK CARD keeps giving me is that there is an issue with the memory card. It then tells me to "either remove the storage card or replace it with a new compliant one". And the sticker may said void under it, but no where on it right now does it say void.
So if they have a problem, I took a picture with the camera and the phone SPECIFICALLY states to "REMOVE THE CARD". There problem now... I don't care what they say anymore. They had their chance to fix it... the product is telling me to do it.... and I don't see "Void" anywhere. Took pictures and covered my tracks. Time to get this going myself.

Memory Card - Beyond a joke!

Hi,
I'm really hoping someone might be able to give me some advice.
I've had my Desire HD for about eight months now, and counting the one I lost about 10 minutes ago, I've gone through a total of ten memory cards.
Each time I get a message saying it's been unexpectedly removed, or that it is blank or damaged. I've tried Sandisk and Samsung cards, all Class 2 / 8GB.
I hardly ever remove the memory card, but when I do I am always careful to unmount it. The same as when I connect it to my PC via USB.
After the 8th memory card died, the Gingerbread update had just been released, and I was hoping it was due to a software issue. However, as expected, my 9th memory card died shortly after. I contacted HTC who sent me ONE replacement SD card, to which I explained that I wanted my phone repaired. Courier picked it up, they said that it was being caused by a software issue and simply done a reset.
I knew it wouldn't work, and low and behold my 10th memory card has just died.
I am now contemplating going to Phones4U and asking for a replacement, as someone else has mentioned in the forum. However, there was one thing I wanted to check with people first.....
I connect my phone to my car stereo via Bluetooth, which I use as a handsfree and to listen to music that is stored on my phone. Now, normally I just turn my car stereo off. How likely is it that this could be causing the card failure? I don't see how, as the memory card isn't physically being removed, but I wanted to get people's thoughts on this before I start pushing Phones4U for a replacement!
I don't think your cards are physically damaged. They just need to be formatted.

I don't think it's my cards that are physically damaged, but it must be a hardware issue with the phone. Each of the memory cards either say it's been removed, or that it's blank or damaged. Some of them I can put into my PC and repair. Some of them worked again after I had formatted them, however 5 out of the 10 would not even be picked up by my PC.
I have now emailed Phones4U, so I shall see where I get (if anywhere) with them.
What HTC firmware are you using? There was an issue with 1.72 that caused symptoms such as yours. That is one of the issues that got the OTA pulled.
I have the phone number for Phones4U's written complaints team, the team that you always get told don't accept incoming calls. Should you need it, just let me know.
Sounds a very similar problem to mine mate........

Hi there s32bauer,
I think i may have seen the same problem, although i have only tried 2 /sdcards and they BOTH work on the PC or lappy afterwards.
See this thread for more on my issue,
Hope you have a little more luck than myself.
I have had some great help off some great people on here at XDA though......Thanks guys...
P.S. Have you been running any custom ROM's? If so, what were they?
i had the same problem when on 1.72, i went through 3 16sdhc cards. i fixed this by rooting and using leedroids gingerbread.
all three cards which were broke i managed to fix and they are now in good use in my wifes wildfire and our galaxy tabs, the 32gb card i now have in my phone has been in there for about 4 months now with no more unexpected removals.
The only other time i had this problem was with my motorola milestone, it also ate cards - but the phone was next to useless as it was sig locked and never updated (got a full refund as flash never arrived in the 9 months i owned the pos).
Gone through 10 memory cards that's absolutely insane!! Even more insane that a OTA can be released that causes it.
I think your owed some replacements if the cards are screwed.

I've been through quite a lot. The first two died on 1.32 I believe. Then I lost SIX on the 1.72 firmware. Another one once I'd upgraded to Android 2.3, and then the final one the other once I'd received it back from HTC.
The number for Phones4U would be brilliant, thanks!

Hey, thanks for the link. I'll have a look through, although I'm going to continue to push for a brand new replacement I think.
Tried 1.32, then to 1.72, and then Android 2.3. One of them was a custom ROM, but had one die on that one too unfortunately, so I'm quite sure it's just my phone being a dud! lol

[Q] sd card problems

My new NST does not seem to read my Sd cards anymore (I was able to use it only a couple of times). I don't really remember forcing the card but I don't really feel the spring in the slot anymore. Since I don't live in the US, I can't go to a BN store unfortunately. What can I do? I would appreciate any pointers and help?

I think his problem is that the spring in the SD reader broke, not the SD card itself.
The card used to work so it's probably Sd vs SDHC issue. Also, I slide the card all the way in and use my nail to take it out, rather than pushing on the spring. I wonder what exactly happened. I have owned and used many devices with SD card slots and soemthing like this has never happened to me.

Sorry a typo. I agree with you that it's probably not an SDHC issue.
I would prefer the spring as well but it's not working for some reason. I still don't understand why or how the slot could have been damaged (this seems to be the only explanation). If that's the case, the SD card slot must be very very fragile.

Was it broken when you purchased it?

No it was fine for a day or so.
Micro SD cards are so fragile...
Yeah, be sure to use the spring when ejecting it.

My cards are fine in fact. The slot seems to be damaged somehow and that never happened to me before.

[Q] i9505 overheating with SD card in. looses power REALLY fast after SD card failur

Hey everyone!
A week ago i bought a SanDisk MicroSDHC Ultra UHS-I - 32GB and installed it on my SGS4. It started right away telling me there was a problem. It said that the "SD card had been removed unexpectedly". It was installed right and I couldn't really move it around. After it was installed my phone began to become REALLY hot over the area where the SD card is and started to loose power just as fast. I have an old 8GB Samsung cad and it was in the phone before with no problem. No i can't use that card either as it also starts to overheat and even with no SD card in my phone i can't even get 10 hours of battery time on my phone. Even with little use.
Is there a fix for this or do i need to send my pride and joy in for repair??
Thanks in advance. Jakob
PS: Please tell me if you need more info about what happened.
No issues here, phone is idle for almost 2 days now with a 16 GB SD card mounted

I can't show you the error message as i don't have that card any more- I send it back and waiting for a new one. Thought my problem was with the card only....
The phone gets hot every time I use it. But REALLY hot if the SD card is in. By battery analysis do you mean under the settings menu or is there an app that can do that? (sorry for the dumb question)
Okay. Took a screen cap of the battery setting. I have now turned off all goggle "places" thing and i hope that will give me some battery life.
Anyway i can test the battery and see if it's okay?

I have the exact same card and have no issues. Try to format the card from the phone itself first before using.

Tried that. Didn't work. Although i haven't tried it with the old Samsung card. Gonna give that a go!
It sounds like the card is faulty. Try using phone for a day with no SD card in it and it should be fine hopefully

That's what i have been doing, and it still gets hot and can't hole battery life. I am trying the formatted SD card (Samsung 8 GB) right now to see if it helps! Thanks thought!!

Which firmware is your phone currently running? I think the newer firmwares fixed the overheating issue due to memory cards.

Thats great to hear. I don't now if any newer updates have been rolled out for your region yet but MF5 is an update or two old now. Do check for new updates in general.

Thanks! Still crossing my fingers this was it. I still need to have a look at the battery. But right now it lasts a lot longer and it doesn't get hot any more!
I just did a check and the MF5 is the newest one for me here. I'll keep an eye out for future updates!
