There is no reason for you to change.. In all respects Z2 is far better than G3.

Suggest you ask this in the LG G3 Forum - they are far more likely to own one and impart USEFUL information rather than just individual opinion and conjecture without actual G3 ownership.
I would also recommend that you view/read the various Reviews around that offer fairly unbiased comparisons between the 2 devices

I have owned both devices.
The LG G3 battery time will be disappointed. Sony STAMINA mode is very nice feature.
Instead, the LG G3 Replacement Battery.
G3 is faster focusing. Otherwise, no special features.
On the other hand, Z2 has many features, including the Professional mode.
LG G3 is a little less performance, but similar specification.
I do not recommend the LG G3, but the product of our country.

just like samsung, lg phone is ugly

Let's not forget the G3 has no development at all.

G3 isn't better as per your requirements.
It suffers from battery and performance issue, thanks to the QHD display.

I went from g3 to z2 and I am much happier. G3 has crap battery life and really laggy.

The G2's had a lot of development, so I'd assume the G3 would, too. Besides, it's recent to the market. Give it a little time; I'm sure the development would get going.
Now, to answer the question, I wouldn't suggest upgrading from the Z2. There are just two areas I believe the G3 scores over the Z2. One, is the display. It's simply amazing. It's not to say the Z2's display is bad, but nothing rivals the QHD panel on the G3 as of yet. Two, the G3's got a user-replaceable battery, and that's something that truly comes in handy if you're a really heavy user. On the downside, the battery does drain pretty rapidly, and the phone does feel quite slippery, too. Otherwise, mostly everything is pretty much the same. So, unless you're a new buyer that's torn between the two, I'd suggest you stick with the Z2 for the moment. Putting in the extra money just to upgrade on the display isn't a prudent choice.

I had the g3 and can honestly say display on the z2 is better. G3 display for me was washed out. Never mind the over sharpening issue.

I just switched to G3 and couldn't disagree with you more. The Z2 was way more laggy and the G3 doesn't heat up anywhere near what the Z2 does.

LG G3:
- worse camera (except focusing)
- bad performance (even worse in games)
- bad display (low contrast, sharpening artifacts, not even SRGB color gamut, low brightness)
- plastic build
- overheating even when browsing
- battery life far worse than Z2
- worse speakers

I have the Z2, OPO and M8 currently, had the G3 for couple of weeks. I didn't find difference in performance between Z2 and G3 that different but found the Z2 to be little more smooth after using for longer durations. Display wise I like M8 the best out of all, followed closely by G3, Z2 and lastly OPO.

What?! No way. You must be blind or in denial. I owned both devices at the same time and the G3 was way laggier. It stuttered doing basic UI animations (opening the app drawer, switching between apps, going back to the home screen). For a top end phone to stutter like that is just unacceptable. I ended up selling it and keeping the Z2. Even my G2 with custom rom was better than the G3.

used Z2 for a month, never even come close to being hot. Only time it over heat is when you do 4k vid recording, which does up to 8-10 mins now after new FW update. LG and Sammy don't get reported about overheating as much because they both put 5 mins cap limited for 4K recording. Battery for sure is worse than Z2 even without using stamina mode on z2.

Havent had a G3 in my hands to directly compare, so my opinion might be slightly inaccurate/biased,but here goes.
For me there simply is no other android device available with to build quality of the Xperia, it does not feel like a cheap piece of junk in your hand but like a premium device justifying its price tag, not that im saying the G3 does, but maybe. The camera on the Z2 is above average and certainly good enough for me even with CM11 running it.
The battery life of the Z2 is where in my opinion the Z2 excels (When using STAMINA mode), it simply magical. I have also read a few articles of the G3's QHD display being washed-out and annoyingly hard to read outdoors.
For me the pinnacle of android bliss is this: Xperia + CyanogenMOD !

Every time I tried to use it outdoors it would be way too dim to use and throttle itself. Even when I used lux it would cut it down too dim for outdoor use.

G3 is a "wish" that not came true.
QHD displays will be effective ONLY with 64bit SOC and powerfull GPUs +lot of RAM. (4GB @1GHz+ minimum)
S5 LTE-A version with Snapdragon 805 left only 850+MB of free RAM having 3GB!
It's a overkill gimmick at the moment.
Z2 is the best all around smartphone out there, PERIOD.

I had my lg g3 for couple of days now and here are some facts:
Very slow and sluggish Im coming from an iphone 5 and it were 2 time faster no joke.. I Bought lg g3 thinking its a powerfull device but its not, its not optimazed well and the screen is an overkill. I bought it because i had lg optimus g before which were again a lot quicker than my current phone.
other than that lg g3 is pretty good, excellent camera. Decent battery live but I will be sending it back, any suggestions on what phone i should get?

I agree it is slow and sluggish, however being someone who will be installing new roms as they become available, I am willing to wait because I know good things are still to come.
I had a Galaxy S3 and even that wasn't a very pleasant experience, however with the correct Rom and custom kernel I couldn't find anything bad about it anymore other than the hardware limitations.

Try root and freeze some unwanted apps should help make it a bit smoother. Also changing to art. If its mega slow could be faulty. I do agree the the ui needs better optimisation. Its the only issue this device has but its only just released give it time and they maybe fixes and even new version of android around the corner
They made the screen good without rising the price and now it's an overkill for some people lmao nothing is ever good enough for some people

Roms and kernels won't help, maybe a little but the phone struggles to power the QHD screen. LG went too early and with an underpowered system on chip (for QHD). Sad, but that's it .
PS, The M8 is blindingly fast and smooth so if thats what you're looking for get that.

Its an overkill because the screen is clearly affecting performance of the phone. It looks like the phone cant handle a screen with massive resolution. I dont know about you but I would rather have a phone with a full hd display rather than quad hd if it performs like a 2014 flagship rather than 2012 flagship. No joke, lg g3 is as quick as an iphone 4s i use at work. Maybe it will get a bit better with updates, will see.

Is the iPhone 6 out already since he already had the latest and greatest Apple Engineers could produce. I had this phone since Friday and noted no slowness. When root is available I plan to debloat the phone. You can try a different launcher like Nova or my favorite now Holo. There are some setting in developer mode that can speed up like turning off the Animation setting or switching to ,5X
Sadly I'm thinking the 801 was a poor choice with that monster screen hopefully some patches can improve it

Go back to your iphone. Sounds like its all you can handle.
Another thing to remember is this phone is cheaper than S5 and Note 3 despite being better ( only to some of course and only iphone 4s good for some other $570 no contract att version. It just came out, already has root and from the look of things bootloader is almost unlocked too (att version).

This is such a misguided statement. The LG G3 in no way struggles to power the QHD display nor does it struggle to power the Optimus overlay. Now, it would struggle to meet the same level of gaming performance when compared to a Snapdragon 800/1080p display.
But saying that it's struggling to push simple pixels on the screen is simply ignorant and starting to fall into circle jerk territory.
Thanks for sharing, I'm glad you feel important enough to go around the impressions thread and make your own thread on the G3 forum. go back to iphone, seems better suited for you. I experience none of what youre experiencing.
Mine runs buttery smooth all the time... The screen isnt affecting performance. I'd say any slowdowns are due to LG's software.

For a start it's using up 600mb of Ram for video much more than an HD screen, leaving only around 300-400 for apps. It's using more resources to produce the extra pixels leaving less for multitasking etc. You can see the dropped frames during animation transitions and feel the heat from it as it's working harder. I loved the phones design but I really couldn't take the lag, stutter and throttling after 2mins of use so that's why I returned it,it's really no big deal, if you like it then stick with it. I might try and get an S805 version when it's released.

G3 to Z3 would be comparable. I'm not surprised you are upset with the performance on the Z2.

Really? Performance was solid on Z2 for me. But every device I owned had issues. I really liked the Z2, but it had SOOO many problems! But NONE of them were software or battery realated ... It was all defects... After 6 or 7 Z2s, I went for the G3 and I don't regret it. Fantastic device! Love it But I wouldn't say the Z2 or G3 are much better than the other! I'm just very happy with my defect free G3 and solid performance (and slightly larger screen )
Interestingly, I jumped from a Z1compact to the G3 and am regretting it. Software-wise, it seems, LG is/was (especially with Lollipop) rushing things. It seems incomplete, rushed, bugged. The experience feels unrefined.
The recent Sony devices (Z and up) are much closer to the Nexus in terms of flashability and handling. For the serial flashing interface (S1 mode = download mode) there is a very nice flashtool available, unlike the vietnamese-hacked LG thing there (no offense intended).
Overall, I like that much more than the mess the G3 is on that regard.
Screenwise though, the G3 is an upgrade from what the Z1 is. Especially viewing angle stability. The resolution is undoubtably unneeded high, 1080p is enough on the screensizes in use, period.
I will switch to the Z4 or Z5, depending on money, contracts and release date of either of those devices.
Edit: not to talk about the battery on Sony devices... Geeeeez the G3 is hungry, unbelievable.

[Q] Still worth to buy?

I am going to buy a new android cellphone tomorrow and after too much research LG G2 is the phone that fits my budget to its worth with specifications. So my question is after approx 1 year is it Still a value for money? Are there any issues i should be worried about?
My alternate to this is Xperia Z1. Thanks in advance.

It's still got a Good Processing power and [email protected] Video-Recording.
Yes, it's worth it.
Even the Galaxy S2 is not outdated yet in my opinion!
You have used xperia Z2 and Lg G2 both before so i think you can help me out here. If i ask you to choose one out of two for free, i.e. LG G2 or Xperia Z1 what would you pick?
It's a very good buy for the money. Buttons on the back were something I was worried of, but now I cannot imagine my life without them
Snapdragon 800 still can manage anything you throw at it and the camera, the display (slim bezels and such colors, I love it!) and the battery are just outstanding.
As for comparison between Xperia Z1 ang G2 I would choose the G2 thousand times, Z1's got a little faster camera but I would stand that s****y display and the big clumsy body. The xperia Z line are the most impractical phones I've ever had in my hand (I also tried the Z2).
Go for it.. Its cheap now and still great.
I Had one, sold it and got the Xperia Z3. Got tired waiting for Root exploit, bought another G2 again with erased IMEI, restored IMEI.. Love it again,. Best phone i ever had. HAIL the G2.

Me personally, id go with the xperia. Such a premium feeling device with waterproofing (which is good since 1 device ive had died due to water..) and the stock rom is by far one of the best IMO, if not the best. The camera quality was relatively equal but the z2 seemed to film better (or at least at a higher consistent framerate while the g2 even with 60fps selected can drop frames). Only issue is that there is a lack of development for the z2. Sure there are some roms and kernels, but there arent as many roms and kernels there when compared to the g2 (this is z2 development, z1 may be different). The speaker of the z2 was much better as well (however, the z1 is probably worse than the z2 and equal to the g2).
In the end, id still choose the xperia... Such a shame mine cracked so easily as they're generally really tough devices.
The battery life of the z2 was also noticably better in my own experience, however, thats probably due to the stamina mode included.
My only issue is that this is my experience with the Z2, not Z1. They are similar devices but not identical and a lot of the pluses of the z2 i listed might not be in the z1. (Like speaker or battery life)

HTC One M8 or G3? Help please!

I'm getting a new phone soon, and I'm stuck between the LG G3 and HTC One M8. I know this is the G3 forum but I hope I'll get honest suggestions from here.
Can someone please honestly answer my questions:
1. Since I'm coming from the Moto X 2014, I need a fast enough and future proof (duh, till 2016 Jun) phone. I sold it because the screen was fragile, display was so yellowish to my liking, camera wasn't good, no dev support, poor headphone output, poor battery and tempered glass protectors won't even fit properly. My question is, is the G3 really fast enough for the period I stated above? I don't want any lag or frame rate issues on my phone, even with games like MC5 or any other GPU demanding game.
2. How's the battery of the phone? I know about the stock figures, but with a custom ROM, and custom kernel, how many SOT can you get?
3. How's the headphone output? Is it comparable to the One M8 after some tweaking?
4. I don't mind chaging the screen resolution to 1080p, but after changing it, is the phone completely stable? I don't need bugs or any stability issues.
I really like the G3 for its screen size and camera (camera isn't a big priority though), a GB of RAM extra, bezel less design. While, the HTC M8 is cheaper, with some good Harman Kardon earphones, much better speakers, better performance.
Help me out please!

Well i would suggest the G3 for the same reasons i got it, the camera is far better than the M8, the video recording is up to 4k, the screen can't be lowered in resolution so the battery might drain a bit more than the M8 but the battery on the G3 has more capacity, the phone lasts me a whole day and a bit more but i always charge it each night, the phone is bigger in screen size and overall size but the feel on the hand is quite good, im typing using one hand so that should say a lot, the phone is plenty fast and the added gig of ram future proofs the phone a bit more, i would say hold out for the g4 but if you need to buy now then get the g3 i have already owned it for almost a year and the phone has been fantastic, im currently using the stock 4.4.2 firmware because lollipop breaks root and there is no shortage of roms so you can customize away with your liking. Overall get the G3. Also a minor detail that is easily noticeable on gold and white phones are small hairline cracks on the mics and ir blaster so if that is an absolute deal breaker get the m8 and if you get the at&t version then watch out cause sometimes some phones the wireless charging stops working good thing is at&t will exhange it but you have to press that the issue is the phone not the accesories. Overall is the best phone i have had since my sgs3

Some reviews say G3 is better, some say M8 is better. So I can't decide on one.
The only thing holding me back from the G3 is the lag. I got into some G3 threads and it seems the phone really lags in gaming too. If the lag wasn't there, G3 was the better phone obviously. I can't wait for the G4 because I'm getting these for cheap.
I don't want lag in ANY game or app. :/
With stock based custom rom I don't have lag.
With aosp based rom is incredibly fast.
I have both (actually my wife has the M8).
G3 pros
1) better camera
2) better screen
3) better in hand sensation
4) more updates (about 3 in 3 months)

I really dont understand why people say theres lag in games? i have this phone and dont get any lag in games at all and im on a stock rom too, personally i think G3 is a better phone than the m8, screens bigger with great screen to bezel ratio, quality of the screen is better imo, battery life maybe isnt better as this phone has a bigger screen and higher resolution screen (btw watch a high def movie on the LG G3 and it looks amazing). i bought my LG G3 for £280 brand new sim unlocked, for that price you cant go wrong.
I think the screen on the G3 is really good. It's what I liked the first time I seen it. Not that it was big but because it looked so clear. I used to calibrate displays and I think overall its one of the best screens I've seen on a phone. It definitely lacks black level but makes up for it everywhere else. Sharpness is now modifiable.
-A modified G3 can reach the M8 in benchmarks so speed may be comparable.
-A modified G3 can reach 80fps in Quadrant benchmarks.
-The G3 has a good camera and great third party app.
My parents both have an M8 as per my suggestion. I think they are great phones but I'm not sorry for choosing the G3 for myself, except for those great speakers the M8 has. Those speakers are just awesome!
Overall the build quality is totally different between the two based on materials used but the G3 isn't as bad as a Samsung.

Will I miss any good feature in AOSP? Is it completely stable?

Are you sure that every game runs smoothly on it? I'm asking because there's even a dedicated thread for reducing the lag.

Please be honest, if you were given a second chance, which one would you choose? Can I make the G3 run flawlessly as an HTC One M8 in everything?
I have a Nexus 7 2013 with a custom ROM and while it used to be fast, now it's not satisfactory for me. It's still fast, but I see some occasional stutter and games don't run smoothly. I don't need other slow device.

Yes im sure, i play graphic intensive games such as Colin McRae rally, Dead Trigger 2, Nova 3. No lag, i do use a custom kernel though.

At the moment aosp based roms are on nightlys but stables versions are coming next days.
I miss camera quality and knock code
In all honest though you really need to ask yourself, how future proof are you these days anyway?
Chances are if you buy a new phone, it'll be outdated in a month because there will already be talks of a new model with a better processor and some revolutionary features.
Let's put it this way, I was in your situation a while ago too. I was using a Nexus 5 for a little over a year and just wanted something new. My first 2 choices were the M8 and the OnePlus one, then eventually I factored in the G3. It wasn't even on my radar to begin with!
In the end I chose the G3 because of the QHD screen, removable battery and microSD card support. Sure unibody phones look great, but I just have never liked the idea of the battery being sealed in. What if the battery you get is faulty? You'll need to replace the entire phone. Sure that's an extreme case but it can happen.
Take my post with a grain of salt because I don't value gaming performance, but with lollipop on the G3 it's plenty fast for me. I really don't think you can go wrong with either phone.

I was in a similar situation when I sold my Moto X due to the same issues you mentioned above, though it was primarily due to the hideous AMOLED screen on the MOTO X which had burn-in issues just after 20 days of usage. Even my replacement unit got that in mere 10 days. It was the navbar that was visible under white/grey backgrounds.
I chose G3 over M8 after trying them in Chroma and other retail stores:
1. Much better screen to body ratio. The bezels are extremely slim and the phone looks sexy. Compare that to the M8, its as tall as the G3 but that is to accommodate those boomsound speakers.
2. Though it has to power a higher resolution screen, the latter lasts me 1.5 to 2 days since I consider myself a light user. It'll easily last you a day even with heavy use.
3. Camera is awesome! M8 stands no chance with its ultrapixel cam. The focus is insanely fast due to the laser focus which may seem gimmiky unless you use it and see it for yourself.
4. Though plastic, its pretty well built.
5. Removable battery, personal preference after using the MOTO X.
6. Gorgeous screen and I'm sure you'll see the difference when you use it over 1080p screen.
7. After sales of LG is light years ahead than HTC in our country. People all over India curse HTC for opting a 3rd party vendor for its after sales service. I've had an instance when I had to deal with them and I made sure it was the last. I've used Nexus 4 and 5 and found LG's after sales to be much better and their repair cost is also reasonable.
8. LG has come a long way in dealing with S/W updates and they have bettered HTC and many other OEM's in this area. I'm pretty optimistic that we will receive an update to 6.0 or whatever they name it.
Some points to consider:
1. The lags that you hear/read about were of 4.4.4 days and LG has done a good job with 5.0 making it pretty much lag free.
2. You WILL notice the speed difference between near stock Android of Moto X over custom LG skin but its something that you'll get use to in a matter of days.
3. I've used M8 a couple of times in retail store and its a wee bit faster compared to G3.
4. Though it happens rarely, the LG screen fails to respond to touch inputs. It mostly happens in the lower bottom area and many have reported this. Since 5.0 update, this issue is almost gone and I've come across it only once after the update. No need to worry about it and its certainly not a deal breaker. I've been using the phone since Dec 2014 and have encountered this 4-5 times and only once after the 5.0 update.
5. M8 with its boomsound speakers is clearly a winner when it comes to audio quality but G3's audio aint puny either. It's got decent amount of punch and should be enough for daily usage unless you plan use your phone to watch a lot of videos/movies.
Hope the above helps you in deciding. Every phone has its own compromises/cons and eventually you need to decide which ones you can live with. Cheers! :highfive:
I owned both (M8 for a couple of months and G3 till now) and i can say G3 is clearly the winner out there.Theres a simple reason.
If you have checked the recent GMA (global mobile awards ) in category 5 (best mobile handsets ) there were 2 winners :
Apple iphone 6 + LG G3. I havent seen any samsung or nexus or htc devices . So i am glad that i kept my G3 .
The judges comments :
“Affordable excellence with winning design – its edge-to-edge screen offers the best quality mobile viewing experience around today.”

Z3 compact VS S6 Edge

So I have a Samsung S6 Edge from Tmo. I like the phone but do not like all the bloatware that carriers put in it. I'm thinking of returning it and getting an unlocked Z3 compact.
I've read about it and I like the style and other things about it.
My question for those with the phone. How do you like it? Is the phone fast and snappy enough for you? Was rooting straightforward? Hows real world camera quality and speed?
Theres many things I like about the s6 edge but I wouldnt mind returning it and spending less for a phone that still seems really good on paper

Love mine.
Its the same hardware as the Z3 but is only driving a 720p screen rather than 1080, so its nippy
Rooting was a breeze and and debloated lollipop firmware available.
Not that sony fimrware is bloated as its not really compared to some.
What's important for you?
The Z3C camera isn't that good as I thought it would be... you can find one or two threads with people complaining about it... if you are not so much into photos, maybe you won't notice otherwise you will be a little disappointed. I mean, it's Sony! Others companies use their sensor and give much better images.
What I love about my Z3C is the size and the battery life. It's fast enough, not blazing fast.
Root may be a little complicated, but nothing impossible. I came from a Note II which rooting process was a piece of cake. But following the tutorials you will have it rooted with no issues.

The Samsung does not have the same hardware as the Z3C. It has an Exynos processor and an AMOLED screen. Also, it feels faster in every way.
I like my Z3C and won't switch because of the Z3C's size and battery life. The Samsung does not come close in battery life.
Sony includes almost as much bloatware as Samsung.

Oops, my mistake. [emoji5]
I tried the S6 Edge for about a week. The S6 Edge is better in almost every way. It's slightly faster (and I mean very slightly), has better speakers, better build quality, better display, and the camera outclasses the Z3 Compact's. The Z3 Compact has waterproofing and much better battery life. Ultimately, I returned the S6 Edge and kept my Compact. The battery life on the S6 is awful IMO (even worse than my Z Ultra with its massive display) and that pretty much negates all the other positives.
love my z3c running my debloated FW, very fast and battery friendly
using it with root and xposed, didn't unlock the bootloader yet. root was very easy for me.
love the size and the battery life. didn't use the camera for long, but seems decent to me so far btw.
btw, bloatware that comes with the phone is a lot for me (I'd say the same I've always seen in samsung phones, maybe just a little less) so you'll have to debloat it if you don't like bloatware as I do, but that's what I always do immediately everytime I get a new phone and stay with stock FW for some time, so nothing new for me
would never buy a s6 edge especially for the screen.. how can you guys like those edges? just a waste of screen and visible area for me!
Love my Z3C, camera is bit disappointing but still above average. The phone is very fast but somehow other phones with snapdragon 800/801 feel snappier (HTC one m8 and nexus 5). Still, no problems with speed whatsoever.
I prefer the Sony ui over Samsungs. Samsung interface looks cheap and it's the opposite of clean. Sony has a calm nice to use interface.
The killer feature of this phone however is the batterylife. I get an easy 2 days and I'm a pretty heavy user. I still laugh at people with their.iPhone 6/Galaxy S5 taking their charger everywhere while I'm just sitting here with 62% at the end of the day (3 hours SOT)
Also the water proofness is a nice addition. Still wash my phone every morning after a party (beer is sticky). It's a small plus but I would love to have it jn my next phone.
I have never rooted this phone but stock firmware works flawlessly for me (yes 5.0 also)
I would still recommend this phone to everybody who wants a practical phone(Size) without having to worry about anything(battery, memory, speed).

I love everything about the Z3 Compact except the camera. It is flaring all over and I have 2 of them. Overall PQ particularly contrast is so bad compared to Samsung or iPhone 6.

yep same experience. makes the z3c a better phone for me, but when you think about it sony wouldnt have much to do to have made the z3c an excellent phone.. slightly annoying that they havent
that said.. you can get my days of battery life from the z3c off my dead cold fingers - its the main single reason for keeping it, until competition gets as good.
Z3 works great overall except its camera, but it won't be problem for you if you are not too serious about photos.
nobody mention the sound enhancement? it is great, clearly better than s6.
The S6 and Z3c are entirely different beasts so I'm puzzled why the OP is not considering the regular Z3 (or Z3+), which is at least a similar size. But anyhoo... the Z3c is fast enough for me with Lollipop, but the camera is mediocre at best. You can get good results with it, but that usually involves too much faffing around with manual settings. For quick snaps on the fly, Samsung cameras are a lot better IMO.
The biggest selling points of the Z3c, however, are size and battery life. They are the only reasons I (and probably many others) bought this phone.

hold in hand and form factor is good..
performance is adequate.. you can root easily and install a debloated lollipop rom.. Battery life is great.. Thats about it..
Coming from a edge to this is such a downgrade display (huge), camera(huge).. Display is the worst on z3 compact..very bad viewing angles.. If you dont mind display and camera then welcome..

Although you're technically correct, I've never understood why anyone cats about viewing angles on a phone. Whenever you use it, it's going to be one foot directly in front of your face. I just don't see the point in comparing viewing angles on a 4 inch display.

You are correct for the most part. However, I often put the phone down on a table or counter top while I eat and use it to read or browse sites like this. This creates an angle that can make it difficult to read even though it's only a foot and a half from my face.

I care about it.. Most of the times my phone is on my desk while working.. I will just tap on it to wake to see any notifications.. at that time i dont hold my phone.. its still on table.. And from side.. black becomes gray/white and its terrible.. Even when you are showing pictures to some one you wont be viewing it straight.. Also some times while watching a video on bed.. There are many cases which bother me.. i wrote my experience.. if it bothers you or not depends on your use case.. Not all people use the phone same
