[INDEX][GUIDE][FAQ] All Things RAZR I - RAZR i General

Welcome to the “All Things” Razr I Index thread. This Index thread contains basic information about the Motorola Razr I a.k.a. XT890 to get you started. It won’t contain any KERNEL and ROM Development, because of the numerous kernels and roms people can make. It would just flood this thread if it happens.
All the work that is presented in this thread belong to their rightful owners. I just sorted them and linked the threads in here.
Everything that u do to your phone it totally your own responsibility. Nobody here or elsewhere can be held account for a failure in flashing, device bricked or a rom problem if u tempered with your own device. But maybe we can help if u ask nicely.
This Index thread contains the following in this order:
A. GENERAL DISCUSSIONs
B. GENERAL (DEV) TOOLs
C. UNLOCK BOOTLOADER and ROOT
D. RECOVERYs
E. FIRMWAREs
F. MODs
G. WARNINGs, BRICKED DEVICEs SOLUTIONs/DISCUSSIONs
H. DOWNGRADE TO ICS
I. FROM STOCK TO CUSTOM ROM
J. FROM CUSTOM ROM TO STOCK (with RELOCK BOOTLOADER)
Some important notes:
When using 3rd party software to alter your device u warranty may be voided. In every country this is different. Before going ahead, read your legal rights!!!
Each thread/sections can contain “important” notes
Do your research before doing anything
Read the information the owner of the thread gives u
Highly recommended to have a look at the ‘warnings, bricked devices solutions/discussions’ threads before using RSD-Lite and fastboot commands like flashing manual firmware versions.
Last note:
If u find something missing that should definitely be in this Index thread, please share.
If u find anything wrong and u know the answer, please share.
Can someone have a look at the downgrade section. That’s the only one I don’t know for sure.

B. GENERAL (DEV) TOOLs
Contains threads with information about tools that you may need for your device
Motorola USB drivers
Motorola Device manager (driver)(Windows)
Motorola Device manager (driver)(Mac)
Motorola usb drivers for all devices. It also installs the device manager that checks for updates for your device. You can delete the program and still use the drivers. If u want the drivers alone, search the internet. No valid official link yet.
[TOOL] [WINDOWS] ADB, Fastboot and Drivers - 15 seconds ADB Installer
In different threads are different methods to acquire those tools. If u have them ones installed right, u don’t need them twice. It isn’t bad to have them multiple times though.
Motorola mFastboot (fastboot file sized > 100mb)
Put the mFastboot executable as 'mfastboot' in the directory where adb and the normal fastboot file are stored
RSD-Lite
Motorola Tools [Specially for Noobs] (November, 2012)
RSD-Lite in this thread is outdated(5.7), use the newest 6.1.x series from here
If one version doesn’t work, try another. 1 of the 3 should work for you!
ALWAYS USE YOUR CURRENT FIRMWARE OR HIGHER! DON’T DOWNGRADE WITH RSD-LITE. Downgrading with RSD-Lite will cause a soft-brick or if really screwed up a hard-brick. See ‘warnings, bricked devices solutions/discussions’ for more information.

D. RECOVERYs
The recovery’s can behave at every device differently. So a user can have no problems with CWM and almost can’t use TWRP. But it is the same the other way around. Try them and see which one u like and works for u.
To enter Fastboot mode to get to the Recovery
After booting up fastboot mode, navigate with volume - down to the recovery and select it with volume + up
[RECOVERY] Installer for CWM 6.0.1.9 / CWM 6.0.3.6 / TWRP 2.6.3 / STOCK (February, 2014)

G. WARNINGs, BRICKED DEVICEs SOLUTIONs/DISCUSSIONs
Downgrade problems JB -> ICS | Black screen green led | service required code currupt
Downgrading from JB to ICS with a locked bootloader is bad. According to a lot of users it will give u a bricked device. This is because RSD-Lite can also flash the motoboot (bootloader), gpt.bin (partition table) and motobp (radio?) and those 3 may never be downgraded only upgraded. Can only be resolved at a service station.
With an unlocked bootloader it is possible, but then again, don’t flash the motoboot, gpt.bin and motobp!
WARNING - Avoiding Bricked Phones + RSD Lite Tutorial (April, 2013)
Recommend to read before attempting to downgrade
RSD-Lite tutorial, not a downgrade tutorial
Unbricking JB to ICS downgraded hardbricks (Maart, 2013)
This is a unbrick method when u have the following message: Service Required Code Corrupt or black screen - green light. But be careful. This fix can help most of the problems, but not all because of the firmware differences. If it doesn't work for you, have a look at the one below. The owner and thread is still worth mentioning because of the finding of a possible fix, the many devices the owner saved and the discussion about the problem that came along.
Unbricking "Service Required Code Corrupt" (May, 2013)
A better documented unbrick method as the one above, but the same. Still won’t help everybody. But won’t harm your device more than it can and already is if u need this. Only for downgrade problems, everything other needs RSD-Lite or Jellybean versions of the files.
Other issues/discussions
Locked Bootloader, can't access Recovery
If u have a locked bootloader and u can’t access the recovery anymore and even RSD-Lite (latest version) with stock firmware (JB) won't work, there is no possible way to resurrect it, yet. Most of the time it means that you have a bad sector in your EMMC (flash memory) and with a locked bootloader it can’t be erased/written to.
PDS Partition Fix (July, 2014)
In TWRP recovery u can erase PDS. Never do it! Will be fixed when 4.4 is out.
Issue Locked bootloader
If u have any issue with your phone (bootloop, stuck on bootlogo) and u have a locked bootloader, try the following:
Reboot to stock recovery
Do a "factory reset"
If that doesn't solve it, flash your original firmware (JB) with RSD-Lite! Make sure u use one of the latest versions of RSD-Lite, 6.1.x. 6.1.5 is the latest (Augustus, 2014)
Unlocked bootloader
If u have any issue with your phone (bootloop, stuck on bootlogo) and u have a unlocked bootloader, try the following (all staps are on there own. If one doesn't work, try another):
Reflash your custom ROM if u use one (don't wipe) (Renews your system partition, stays of your data)
Wipe your data/cache in recovery (does what it says)
Wipe partitions system/data/cache and flash new rom (reflash whole new system)
Do a nandroid restore if u have a nandroid backup of the rom (restore a previous nandroid)
Do a RSD-Lite flash, use latest versions of your stock firmware and RSD-Lite. (reflash to complete stock)
H. DOWNGRADE TO ICS
If u still want to downgrade from JB to ICS for whatever reason, those are the most save methods, because we disable the flashing of the ‘motoboot’, ‘gpt.bin’ and 'motobp'. There are 2 methods, 1 is by RSD-Lite with a modified xml file and the other one is flashing all the files manually. CANNOT BE DONE WITH LOCKED BOOTLOADER only unlocked!!!
RSD Lite:
Follow and read one of the tutorials for RSD-Lite and download your ICS Stock version of your device!
Set everything up and before flashing remove the following lines from the included XML file of the firmware u want to flash:
Code:
“<step operation= “flash” partition= “gpt” filename= “gpt_signed” MD5= “*****”>”
“<step operation= “flash” partition= “motoboot” filename= “motoboot” MD5= “*****”>”
“<step operation= “flash” partition= “motobp” filename= “motobp” MD5= “*****”>”
U maybe need to delete the following line also:
Code:
“<step operation= “getvar” var=”max-download-size”
U should be good to go!
Manually:
For manually flashing we need “mFastboot”. See GERNERAL (DEV) Tools for more information.
Download your firmware and extract it.
Now use the following commands in a command prompt. Make sure they are correctly spelled and return an “OKEY”!
Code:
[LIST]
[*]mfastboot flash boot boot_signed
[*]mfastboot flash recovery recovery_signed
[*]mfastboot flash system system_signed
[*]mfastboot erase cache
[*]mfastboot erase userdata
[/LIST]
I. FROM STOCK TO CUSTOM ROM
See threads that are mentioned above for more details.
Backup your important data from your phone to PC or elsewhere
Get ADB, Fastboot and your device drivers working
Unlock your bootloader with the above method
Install one of the recovery’s
Install a Rom and/or kernel from one of the threads in the Development section of the Razr I Board through custom recovery.
J. FROM CUSTOM ROM TO STOCK
See threads that are mentioned above for more details. If u want to relock too, have a look here (only for jellybean)
Backup your important data from your phone to PC or elsewhere
Get RSD-Lite working
Download the latest official android firmware for your device. (Always jellybean, unless u had ICS installed before the custom rom and to be on the safe side, never used a Jellybean version, then u can try ICS too)
Flash through RSD-Lite

Enormous post hazou! THank's a lot for all your work!
(work on rom, work on thread... etc)

Excellent job!

Thanks for this guide !
A question :
I'm whith KTR rom 2.2 ( JB 4.1.2 ) and, as all users, i have the unlocked phone screen when i boot my razr I.
If i do the step H. of the guide in order to downgrade to ICS, can i change the unlocked screen whith another one, and after reflash KTR rom ( JB ) in order to don't have anymore this unlocked screen at boot ???

To flash a working logo image u need the bootloader (motoboot) from ICS. But if u flash the motoboot from ICS coming from a jellybean rom (is using the motoboot from jellybean) u will brick your device. (unless as stated, u have never bean on stock JB or installed the firmware from stock JB and u flashed from stock ICS to KTR-rom. So u have the stock ICS bootloader. But i think nobody in this world has that anymore.)
The bootloader and its necessary files may never be downgraded!! I will make a point in the guide to address your question.
So, to answer your question. No u can't!

OK , thanks hazou !
There is definitively no solutions to remove this shi...of bootscreen ....

hey, I wanted to flash the stock rom with the rsd tool and I got my phone bricked, green light flashing, no code error message. Is there any solution for that problem?
edit: ok, I made a stupid mistake by accidentally downloading the ICS stock rom instead of the JB... f**k

[Q] Long time no Flash :D

Hey guys,
Its been a very long time since I flashed a rom on my N7. I was busy with the damn uni but now that summer is here I can play with my N7
Let me make this quick, I have unlocked the N7 using the tool kit long time ago and Im not sure if it still exists on my PC
Im currently running - CM10 4.1.2
Modle - GT-I9000
-Bootloader-
HW VERSION - ER3
BOOTLOADER VERSION - 3.34
UNLOCKED
Recovery - i think CMW
Now I want to update to 4.2.2
Can I just flash a ROM with 4.2.2 or I have to do something with bootloader?
And btw just after going to the bootloader today which I didn't see long time ago the N7 didn't boot when I choose start then I held the power button till it rest and it worked but now a random reboot occurred :|
You need to update your bootloader to 4.18 or you may encounter problems. Also flash a new recovery (I recommend TWRP). From there you can just flash cyanogenmod 10.1.0 rc5 + gapps to upgrade (dirty flash).

Just download the latest firmware from your device from Google (or look on this forum for the latest bootloader file). Extract all the contents in your fastboot folder. Open a terminal there and type:
fastboot flash bootloader name-of-bootloader.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Extra double check that you flash the correct and appropriate bootloader for your device. A corrupt bootloader might hard brick your device. I prefer to do this myself so therefore I don't use toolkits.
This will not erase anything and your bootloader remains unlocked.
Flashing a new recovery is done by:
fastboot flash recovery name-of-recovery.img
From there you can start wiping everything again and start flashing new roms. TWRP supports usb-otg, so you can use it to wipe the internal memory and install cyanogenmod 10.1.0 (android 4.2.2) from a usb stick. Way better then stock.
If you just want the official stock firmware, or for troubleshooting, then I recommend the sticky for manually flashing the official Google Android firmware.

should work, check the latest comments in the thread to check whether it has been successful
whichever method you use, make sure to verify the md5 of the bootloader.img or zip before you flash it. pretty sure a corrupt bootloader will end up in a brick!

Update fails - want to flash custom rom - need some advice

Now here's the situation:
I'm still on an older ROM version (4.2.1 - see attachment)
A while ago my tablet told me there was an update. I wanted to get it, it downloads but it always fail to apply the update.
What I've done to the device so far is that I've used motochopper to root the device and got rid of some ASUS apps.
So since it refuses to update, I've decided to unlock it, flash a custom recovery and get myself a custom rom.
But I've read a lot about people bricking their devices and I doubt it'll be as easy as it was on Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 - so I need some advice on how exactly to do it.
Recently I found the thread that enables us some sort of nvflash although being on JellyBean. They were talking about a specific version of bootloader and I'm not certain if I have this bootloader since I'm on an older JellyBean version. Of course I would like to use this bricksafe as well - just in case
Can someone lead me to a guide or instruct me how to do it? I don't want to brick this device
Thx in advance

This THREAD has all the info you need to do NVFlash. It's based on 10.6.1.15 something bootloader which I believe is the same as the latest Asus official. If you're on 4.2 rom, you can flash the flatline img. and generate the necessary files from there. Once that done, you can use either the provided CWM or the latest 4.2 TWRP to flash any compatible custom rom (4.3). Have fun.

Yes, that version will work because it is on the 4.2 bootloader.
Sent from my TF300T using xda app-developers app
Only works on unlocked device?
Ok I'll try like this
These are the steps I would do: (I pray someone to look over these steps and correct me if I'm wrong )
1.) Go to asus site and download unlock_v8 and run it so to unlock my tablet.
2.) I go to androidroot.mobi and download flatline_tf300.img and nvflash-tools-win32.zip (win32? Hope that does not stand for 32-bit and hope it will work on 64-bit)
3.) I reboot my device into Fastboot (don't know exactly what that means "Please note that for transformer tablets the fastboot command might require the option "-i 0x0b05"" - at this stage the device is already connected to the pc and just in case it's not in fastboot I should run this command?)
4.) I use cmd.exe to type in these commands. In which directory? In the directory where I unzip the files from nvflash-tools-win32.zip? The guide is not too specific on that.
5.) I type in "$ fastboot flash recovery flatline_device.img" (I know for device I use tf300) which will flash the recovery.
6.) I reboot my device (let android boot?) and reboot again into recovery. (power + vol down?)
7.) I select "Advanced - Wheelie" and Step 1: Flash AndroidRoot BL and find myself with a custom bootloader.
8.) It says the device will power off. Automatically? However, I boot into android and after that reboot again into recovery mode.
9.) I choose Step 2 which will generate wheelie blobs
10.) I follow the on screen prompt to retrieve my blobs (anyone has a screenshot of that? Or is it self-expalantory?)
All this time the device is connected to pc via usb?
11.) Now I reboot my tablet into APX mode - after Step 10: am I still in recovery or booted to Android?
12.) If my tablet is recognized I type "$ wheelie --blob blob.bin" into cmd
13.) Then I will type in the commands to obtain the backups
Still got a few questions though. The device is connected to PC throughout this whole procedure, right? Where to start cmd (do I have to put the files from nvflash-tools into a specific folder from where I start cmd.exe?)
And after this procedure is done do I need to flash anything else? Or will I be then equipped with a working recovery that allows me to flash custom roms?
Thanks in advance for anyone who's taking time to answer my maybe uninformed questions but I'm kind of having troubles following the guide

[GUIDE][ROOT] How to Root 101 / 230 Firmware with Locked Bootloader

ROOT JB (101) AND KITKAT (230) FIRMWARE WITH LOCKED BOOTLOADER
This thread is now officially obsolete. There is a new, simple and efficient ROOT method created by @geohot, based on the asec exploit. This method is valid for all versions of android with kernel dates older(earlier) than 04 June. The method probably works on any phone / tablet device EXCEPT the HTC M8, Moto G & E, and devices with Intel chipsets. Go to this thread for details:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783863
The guide below is obsolete and remains only for info. Please do not follow?.
DISCLAIMER: The steps WILL INVOLVE OBTAINING BOOTLOADER UNLOCK CODE FROM SONY, However, after unlocking, you will be guided to re-lock bootloader so that the end result will be a phone with Marlin Keys, Bravia Engine2 and Bootloader INTACT (LOCKED).
Starting Assumptions:
1. You have a Sony Xperia Z (C66XX) L-39H (Duh! Obvious!)
2. You have some knowledge of Root, SUPERUSER and enabling developer options, enabling USB Debugging mode, switching off and connecting your phone to USB & Computer with vol Up / Down Pressed to enable Fastboot mode or Flash Mode. If not, then go slowly and patiently, read every screen that flashes in front of you on your PC/Laptop and choose dilligently.
3. The bootloader status of your phone is BOOTLOADER UNLOCK ALLOWED--YES. This is the general case if you are on a no-contract plan with your service provider, or you have brought the phone at a full premium price (No discounted price by your wireless service provider). US / Canadian users, please obtain your unlock codes before you proceed further, all your phone's bootloaders ARE LOCKED. If you have bought the phone second-hand or from a dubious source check the bootloader lock status by opening the dialler and entering *#*#7378423#*#* (star-hash-star-hash S E R V I C E hash-star-hash-star). You will see four options 1. Service Info, 2. Service Tests, 3. Calibrations and 4. Customisation Settings. To check the bootloader status tap on Service Info>(next page)>tap on configuration>(next page) the last item is your bootloader status. It must read bootloader unlock allowed-YES If it reads "bootloader unlock allowed-NO" then you need unlock codes from your wireless service provider. If it reads "bootloader-UNLOCKED", then you have lost your Marlin keys and bootloader (This also means you cannot flash Sony updates, but you have a wide open field to flash any ROM and kernel of your choice!).
4. Loads of Patience....
5. Some coffee / favourite non-alcoholic brew at hand for sustenance (alcoholic beverages can be for later, till you're done with the process / you are past the legal age. Until then go easy....)
6. It is assumed that you have a Windows PC / Laptop (Win32/64) with all necessary drivers loaded. If not just download and install PC Companion, it will install the necessary Sony drivers.
Step-1
Locked bootloader with 4.2.2 (67 or lower firmware) ROOT status idoesn't matter.
Locked Bootloader with 4.3 (.569 / Commercial & Journalist's firmware) rooted / unrooted.
If on 4.2 firmware, then ROOT your device using BINARY's Method or cubeundcube's method (DOOMLORD's method works below 67 firmware, but I may be wrong) Links:
Binary's Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
cubeundcube nethod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559009
DOOMLORD's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327472
If on 4.3 firmware and not rooted, then downgrade to 4.2.2 (67 firmware) by flashing a ftf file of your region. Links for flashtool thread is given below. Use thread search to find ftf file for your region and download it.
If you are already rooted on 4.3, 569 firmware AND have a locked bootloader, then start from this point.
Make a backup of your Trim Area (TA) by using the tool created by DevShaft at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598 This Step is VERY IMPORTANT!!!!!
Step-2
You now have a rooted phone on 4.2.2 (67 firmware) or 4.3 (569 firmware), AND you have made a backup of yourphone's TA.
Now, upgrade to 4.3 (101 firmware) by connecting your phone to the PC (USB cable) using PC Companion or by using SUS. Use the UPGRADE option and not the CLEAN INSTALL option to retain data. On the first boot after upgrade you will realize that you've lost ROOT and any recovery that you had earlier installed.
Make a FTF file of the upgraded ROM by following the instructions from this thread by deadmask (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/general/guide-how-make-ftf-stock-firmware-sus-t2075736) or from Stage-3 of this thread by VipeR (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2188129)
Step-3
You now have a phone on the latest firmware (without root) AND you have a backup of TA from 4.2 firmware, AND ALSO have a FTF file for the latest firmware.
Obtain the unlock code for your bootloader from the Sony website. Link: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
enter your phone's IMEI number and your email to recieve the unlock code. Legal eagles, obtaining an unlock code DOES NOT MEAN THAT you have actually used it!!! Open your e-mail inbox and check for mail from SONY containing your unlock code.
Custom Kernel Download First download a custom kernel by DOOMLORD (with CWM) recovery for use immediately after unlocking the bootloader from this thread by DOOMLORD: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167381 . Download the custom kernel and place it on your computer's desktop/folder of your choice. Extract the contents of the zip file and we'll come back to it later.
ADB+Fastboot Tools Download a set of ADB and fastboot tools made by anonymous and hosted at the Dev-host site Download link : http://d-h.st/I8l
After the zip file has downloaded extract it to get a folder fastboot+ADB Now take out the boot.img file from the zip file containing DOOMLORD's kernel above, and copy it to the win32subfolder inside the fastboot+ADB folder. Make a note of the location (Drive/folder) where this folder has been saved. (preferred storage on the desktop)
CWM Flashable SuperSU Download Download the latest flashable Super SU by Chainfire from the OP of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 . Download the latest cwm flashable superSU.zip and place it in your phone's external SD Card
Use Androxyde's Flashtool (thread link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746) to unlock your bootloader It is a painless one-click procedure using the BL button. follow the instructions in the flashtool and let the phone reboot (after unplugging USB) Now recheck if ADB debigging mode and Unknown sources are enabled in phone settings.
Now click START on your PC and enter 'cmd' in the search box. Right click on the command prompt / DOS box (cmd.exe) and choose "run as administrator". Enter the administrator password if prompted by the PC. In the command prompt window type the following commands:
cd\
cd users\(your login username)\desktop\fastboot+adb\win32\ (in case you stored the fastboot+adb file on your desktop) or navigate to the folder where you stored the extracted files....
fastboot flash boot boot.img (did you extract and store the boot.img file from doomlord's kernel to the win32 file of fastboot+adb?)
wait for the results to flash and then type fastboot reboot andWAIT before you hit ENTER
Click to collapse
Hold the phone in your hand and do the reboot command. As soon as the blue light goes off and the SONY logo appears wait for the phone LED to turn violet. Press Vol UP button on seeing the violet LED and release-press-release-press two to three times for good measure (Sometimes a constant press also works) till the LED goes off and the phone boots into CWM. In the CWM menu use the Vol up/down to tab move between the options and use the power button to select. There is also a touch-swipe down/up to tab-move and swipe right to select or swipe left to go back, use this method only if you are confident/familiar with the touch-select method. Select flash a Zip from external SD card and navigate to the folder where you stored the update-superSU-1.93.zip and select it. confirm by moving down to select Yes, Flash update-supersu1.93.zip and let CWM finish flasing the SU. go back to the main page and reboot to system from CWM.
After the phone reboots check Super SU is loaded on your phone in /System/app/ and check full root access on your phone....
Step-4
You now have a rooted phone on the Latest 101 firmware, with unlocked bootloader, AND you have a backup of your phone's TA and also have a ftf file of the latest firmware.
Now you have one last step to go back to stock kernel for locking your bootloader. Start Flashtool and select the flash (lightning) button select flash mode. Now select the latest firmware, which you had converted to FTF and on the right side top, (wipe options) untick all wipe options. On the right bottom (exclude), tick mark to exclude everything EXCEPT kernel and fotakernel. See that the centre window (flash content) shows only kernel.sin, fotakernel.sin and loader.sin. (Check Screenshot for reference) Now hit the flash button and put the phone into flash mode.Unplug and Reboot
Step-5
Now you have a rooted phone with the latest firmware on stock kernel (no CWM) AND you have a backup of the TA from your phone.
Now's the time to flash the TA. Do you remember the steps of making backup/restoring TA. check DevShaft's thread again, and remember it is better to do a dry run for restoring TA, before the final restore. DO IT.
Finally, you have rooted the phone with the latest firmware, and relocked your bootloader, and all with a ROM/Kernel and customisation of your region/choice.
Future Steps:
Flash a recovery. [NUT]'s dual recovery for locked bootloader is the best. Thread link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2261606

Unlock bootloader?
And re-lock at the end.... You wanna?
Dead Cookies leave no trails...
In 67 you can root with Doomlord solution, no need to unlock the bootloader.
Then need to update with cwm method other than rom flash.
Simple and easy to follow I now have a rooted Xperia Z on Android 4.3

hi there, would you pls advise the step for Doomlord's solution? I follow this threat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2386405 but fail at step 2 flash older rootable version (tried XperiaZ_C660X_KernelOnly_10.3.A.0.423_Generic_NL.f tf - 7.12 MB and C6603_10.4.1.B.0.101_Stripped.ftf). phone boot loop.
That's why I didn't advise using doomlord's method in op. Read again. Root using bin4ry's method/cubeundcube method and proceed as per op. There's no need for striped and full ftf, just the ftf you create from your upgrade is enough.
Dead Cookies leave no trails...
If you're going to go back to 2.67 anyway its easier to just flash NUTs upgrade to 4.3.
You will also have root and no fiddling with bootloader required.
Managed it successful. Thanks for your detailed tutorial. Very nice, now let's look forward to KK!

I got a question,Is there a way I can unlock my bootloader without losing all my data?
I posted this thread only after verifying the steps on my device. I was initially on 569 with locked bootloader and rooted. I did the exact steps and found that I had not lost any data, personal or on the internal sd card. Try... But Pls make a backup, just in case (I did it too).

I have a nandroid backup of 4.2.2 so I guess I could just restore that If I happen to lose my stuff. Or maybe I have to downgrade and then restore?
Edit: But Honestly it's really risky. maybe I'll just wait till someone comes up with an exploit for 4.3.
May have to wait a long time till a roast duck flies into your open mouth.....

Wow too BIG post for root 4.3 and also i didnt understand anything:silly:
Huh! With every new phone I bought, rooting is harder.Samsung phones was so easy to root.LG was a little bit harder, but this... :-S

Guys, it is not sooo hard as it sounds. If you are familiar with the usage of the flashtool and have a little bit trust in yourself, then THIS is definitive the right thread to get root access and a relocked bootloader on your .101 firmware. Follow exactly the steps and don't - please don't - listen to some smart heads who suggest to flash a prerooted fw. Take the hard way and you'll be definitive successfull. I did so with this tut, and my Z is totally ok. Thanks to Cookie Ninja again.

hi all
ive got xperia z 6603 with 101 firmware..i try to flash 569 stripped file and then when i check back it doest even change anything at about phone..it still on 101..please someone..please provide more detailed instructions..im on LB..
Great tutorial. I've been linking people to it fairly regularly.
Just some input; you're advising people to get unlock codes from their network provider when it states 'Bootloader unlock allowed : No' in the service menu.
I'm fairly (almost completely) certain that there is no way for people in that situation to get the status changed at all, including by their network provider or Sony. Network/sim unlocking the device does not affect the bootloader unlock status.
Also, Flashtool has a fastboot mode that allows flashing of the boot.img, which may be easier for some that aren't confident working with the command line.
Anyway, they're small issues in what is a thorough tutorial.

Hello,
First things first: thanks for this great tool! I needed to restore the original firmware and didn't know how to do that. With this tool it's quite simple.
I had only two small problems:
- the first time I've run tour .bat file I seen several commands being executed, all of the m with an OK in the end, but after all process the phone didn't boot, no recovery also. I ran the .bat file a second time and it's OK now.
- another strange thing happened: the boot logo screen reverted to the "unlocked bootloader" screen.
A question: can I flash only the bootlogo screen via adb?

yes u can but with stock recovery
just flash the stock recovery to get the available update also
In One Click method u can get the official available update after completing the whole procedure

Help Recovering Please

I eventually decided to flash Kitkat onto my Defy+.
Followed this guide here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52342403#post52342403
Everything worked fine until I got to the actual flashing of the KK Rom. TWRP had loaded fine but insisted I had no OS installed and on exit suggested device was not rooted?
Phone kept saying failed and to re partition. So I tried the Resize.zip from another guide. This did nothing either , still the same.
It had also had the following error, "Error Executing Updater Binary In Zip".
So I tried the solution here:-
https://kalitutorials.wordpress.com/2015/06/19/solve-error-executing-updater-binary-in-zip/
Now I cannot boot into TWRP or Clockworkmod recovery. When I try to boot phone it just sits on Motorola Sign but doesn't progress and no led flashes to enter TWRP. Battery needs to be removed to switch off.
If I power up with Volume down pressed, I get picture of Android Green Robot standing up with an yellow exclamation in a white lined triangle. No options are shown.
Pressing Vol up and down I get me to Android System Recovery <3e>. Options there are, reboot system now, apply update from sdcard, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition.
I can also enter bootloader using vol up and power.
Any ideas anyone, found this guide to try to fix but don't want to try anything else without some confidence it will work.
http://www.tech-zealots.com/tutorials/unbrick-motorola-defy-or-defy-100-working/
I have a nandroid backup created in normal recovery btw. I would prefer to flash back to it if possible.
Thanks
G
You need to download a sbf file https://mega.nz/#!915TCAAD!X7_f1t83lVPkK5p7jUdokeE4SQ8qTRqPnBWNvfgyxWA (this one is stock android 2.3.6), then you need to install drivers and rsd lite and connect your phone (must be already in bootloader mode) to your pc and then reflash the sbf file. After that, your phone will boot up to the stock firmware and you can install cm11 then. Basically you can follow up the the guide that you posted. Good Luck

Thanks for your reply.
Tried what you suggested but after flashing that sbf the phone tries to boot up but after logo drops back to bootloader 9.10 with ERR:a5,69,35,00,27 .
I managed to get the Retail UK sbf referred to here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421526
Tried flashing it but end up with a black screen bootloader and just white led lit. Reflashed the sbf u suggested and back to Bootloader with Err.
Googling seems to suggest I am just needing to get the right sbf for the phone.
I have the Nandroid backup made with Clockworkmod recovery. Is there anyway to flash it?
TIA
G
Sorted
After extensive digging and climbing the steep learning curve. Decided the problem was that the sbf file u suggested was DFP 231 and possibly my phone was DFP 2311. Found Firmwares here:-
https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Defy+ (MB526)/Stock/
And downloaded the DPF 2311 Rom, only was one. (DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-2311_BLUR_SIGN_USADEFYEMARAB1B8TFDE004.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRO2DE_P020_A025_M002_Service1FF.sbf). Tried flashing it and voila system is back, albeit it started up in German.
Gonna try the rooting mehod here:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820282
For anyone elses benefit, the links for Roms at Android Developers don't work. The retail EU Firmware mentioned in the rootong guide is available on the site referred to above. U can tell when you click the link to the Android Developers site as the browser URL shows the full file name as follows.
DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_GR_SIGN_UCADEFYEMARAB1B80AA004.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRRTCEE_P022_A022_Service1FF.sbf.gz
The rooted one I think is the same one you linked me to and is still valid in the Rooting guide too.
Thanks for all help and I hope this is of use to someone else.
G
Minor question still remains.
If I am trying to install Kitkat rom. DO I still need to Root phone if the rooted 231 has been installed, I presume not?
G
Followed rooting guide and so now have a rooted 231. All good
Now for KK.
