Extrnal SD Geting Erased - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Here's another good one for ya .... Getting ready to Safestrap so I put in an external sd card to back orig system up on to. Decided to copy TR and safestrap to the ext sd which I did with root explorer from download folder to ext sd card. Afer I copied the files to the sd card I went back into root explorer and verified they were there. Had to reboot the phone, when I go back, the files aren't on the ext sd card !! Of course, before asked, I did mount as r/w before the copy. Any ideas?
Edit: did it again... copied the files over they appear to be on the ext sd, reboot, go back in and card is blank...
Copying the files cuz I am gonna do a factory reset and root it again before I safestrap... I don't like the way foxfi has the credentials locked even after un-installing it. So I just put all the files on thumb drive with my TiBu appz backup.

It was a defective sd card not formattings/reading ... was afraid it was the phone !!!

Corrupt Files/Folder on Storage Card

I have a number of corrupt files/folders on my Storage Card. Can't delete them with Resco File Explorer. Any ideas what is causing them and how to fix or get rid of them?
i have that also i cant delete them there really annoying!
i tried a full bad sector recovery using Pocket Mechanic. took 18 hours but said there were no problems.
If you wanna delete them, just use the card reader and check the properties. If they are saying read only, then uncheck it and delete them as you want. Or the last straw is you can just copy whatever files on the SD card to your pc, then format the whole card and copy back the files to the card.
they are not Read Only but you can't delete them. moving everthing off, reformatting then back on is a good idea. thanks
It's the same problem that happens in ARTEMIS with Micro SD cards.
I recommed you FILE Recovery Professional. It recovers over 100% of lost/corrupted data.
Then, a FAT32 card formatting.
And of course a weekly backup

Android installer can't read SD card

Hey everyone,
Today I mistakingly tried to update a Froyo ROM with an Eclair, and it messed up my phone. So I flashed the default Bell ROM and went to install the Eclair, only this time I kept getting an error that /sdcard/andboot/androidinstall.tar can't be read.
I've checked over and over and: 1) the folder location is right (in the root of the SD Card, all lower case), 2) the .tar file is not corrupt, and 3) the SD Card is formated in FAT32.
I have no idea what is going on, and I'm stuck with the default Windows Mobile 6.1 now.
Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks
same here
I'm actually having the same thing. Clean FAT32 card. 1 directory 'andboot' all lowercase, 1 file in that dir 'androidinstall.tar' all lowercase.
I see android detecting the insert of the SD card, but apparently it wont read it...
solved
After reformatting [and repartitioning] the sd card, what worked for me in the end, was reformatting it [yes, again] to fat32, making the directory, putting in the file, and then resetting the phone. My guess: even though it detected the insert of an sd card, it did not really mount the filesystem until after the reboot.

[Q] all my files returned after formatting

Android creates a lot of stuff on the SD card, as long as the SD card is in the phone and the phone is being used you will have some files on your SD. If you format the card outside of the phone (e.g. with a card reader on a PC) you'll be able to delete everything, but as soon as you use it in the phone stuff will appear on the card again. In the EXT partition this will often be apps if you have an EU HD2 as there's not much internal storage. To be honest, it shouldn't be much of an issue at all seeing as normally these things don't take up much storage at all.

Error when trying to copy files between phone and SD card

I am unable to transfer files from my phone memory to my sd card.
I am also unable to transfer files from my pc to sd card in the phone. I have no issue transferring files from pc to phone memory.
I can view and open files on the sd card and the phone is able to play music and movies stored on the sd card.
Can anyone help me fix this issue?
Thanks!
I don't have such problem at all.
Try different file browsers like ES File Explorer and Astro.
If those do not work, try and factory reset your phone and ask for a replacement if the problem still persists after that.

Does the phone read the sd card? Do you have anything on it to access? If not I would suggest formatting the sd card.

The phone reads all the files on the sd card. I get an error that says Access denied when i copy a file from the phone memory to any folder on the SD card...however I get no error when I copy the files to the root SD card. It's weird...not sure whats going on.
You need to use the stock file manager to copy to the sd card or from the sd to internal as this is a "security feature" since Android lollipop. If you wish to use any other file explorer you MUST be rooted...

I use ES File Explorer and it works - and I won't root until ZTE posts full factory roms for the US version.
I still think there is some issue with the sd card that can be solved by formatting it - if the phone won't move files to it and the pc recognizes the phone but not the sd card how did you get files on it in the first place?

Not true. I just used Solid Explorer to copy files from internal memory to the SD card. There was an extra procedure of selecting the sd card in what looks like the stock storage selection menu thing (that also has Drive, Downloads etc) which was apparently necessary for Solid Explorer to get the necessary permission. Maybe it doesn't work with old file explorer apps that haven't implemented this solution, but it definitely works with Solid Explorer without root.
