[Q] Where is SD Card Located, LG G2 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

First of all hi, I'm new here
I'm searching for the Micro SD Card already installed in my LG G2(16GB), I know that this phone doesnt have Micro SD Slot, but there !MUST! be a Micro SD Card. For example same situation was with my HTC Surround, there was no additional SD Card Slot, but when I dissambled the phone i found the slot, chandet SD card with new 32 GB card and everything worked very well.
so please help, and sorry for my English, I know I made a lot of mistakes

Don't think it's like that in the G2. Internal memory is not an SD card but a memory module soldered directly onto the motherboard.

I think you got it right in that sentence I'm afraid. Memory is usually soldered straight to the main board in the phone.. Not removable or replaceable.. I may be wrong but that's 99% likely from what I know..
So sorry but you're stuck with what you've got!

it was in box and totally new, asked few people and then brought home

Lol okay i guess if you keep it have fun with it i guess

Sorry for my English first of all, based on what you have said, you just randomly "picked" it up in the airport out of nowhere, which probably not your fault, ethically.
Now, about the SD card, I'm sure it's there inside the phone, probably right underneath of the PCB board or maybe it's even inside one of those layers. Rip it apart and check it out.

Agreed. But make sure you take all of the shields etc off to make sure it's not hiding under one of them.

Its invisable.

before you mess up the device
<common sense mode on>
don't you think someone would already found it and post the image on the internet and the news would be allover the android portals? (xda, android central ...)
<common sense mode off>
which variant of the g2 is it?
because i think that only korean variant has a separate micro sd cart slot
anyway, let us know how it went

are you guys being trolls or have no common sense. Only the Korea model has the SDcard slot and removable battery. Since you found it laying in it's original box, read the manual that came with it.

Is there any chance to upgrade memory or add extra microsd slot for LG G2 16 GB version?
I am running out space and this is only one thing which I dont like with my phone, I spend lots of time to find best ROM and to customize everyting for my need.
I was thinking about upgrading to galaxy s7 but I havent got time to customizing again everything, and I guess original ROM will be slower and slower with time, even on such a new phone like S7.
thanks for help

You spend a lot of time to find best ROM and customize everything for your need, and yet you haven't got time to customize an S7, if you got one?!
And which phone doesn't get slower and slower with time?
You don't need a phone!

No I havent got time for this,
which one is not getting slower and slower ? my LG G2 is same like it was in 2014 but only when I am using my ROM, on the original one probably would be different.

Which ROM should I choose!!!????

I've been looking all over the fourm reading about all the different ROM's I just cant decide which I like? or really my biggest concern which is the fastest and most stable...I can live without a camera for a little bit so thats not a HUGE factor. Alot of the ROMS that use over clock or require to use app2sd make you partion your sd card. I have a 8gb sd card I bought from best buy when I got the phone, how can I tell what class it is? my other question is what if i switch roms do I need to change my sd card or re partion it?
I tried Fresh 2.0d and after awhile it just got laggy!!! and I switched back to RegawMOD 2.1r
fresh 2.0d
mother ****ing word
when you feel comfortable... move to fresh toast... it's the shiznit!
just do fresh 2.0d for now, you will have to re-partition that later for fresh toast, but pull this thread back up once you get to that point and someone should be able to copy/paste a how-to

you don't need apps2sd to use any of the overclock roms. lol. If you want fast, go for fresh toast. it has brain **** scheduler in it that'll **** your phone's brain (in a good way ), or go for my darchdroid rom which is also fast and is built from source, but doesnt have a brain ****er in it... yet

any plans on useing BF darch? that would be stupid fast
Go for Fresh Rom or one of Darch's roms.
yup, whenever i get around to doing a make otapackage i will release it.
Can't go wrong with Darchstar, Flipz, or Damage, Or Konikub's roms. Hell the 2.1 based ones are all stable as hell. Pick one, try it, pick another try it, etc etc etc. It's an addiction
Just remember tho......overclock=running hotter=shorter lifespan, otherwise, flash away.......
How should i format my sd card? like how much for swap and fat32 and ext2??
How can I tell what class card I have?
I'm also wondering the same question. I want the closest possible ROM to the regular HTC/Sprint one. Right now I am using DamageControl and just want to make sure I'm using the best I can use?

should have said what class when you bought it, ehh.. maybe look at the sd for a model number or something or look online or where you bought it from.
ehh.... ok so for fresh toast you need to part fat32+ext2 leave 32mb for cache and 512-1024mb for everything else
then you need to convert ext2 to ext 3 then convert ext3 to ext 4
that's how it's susposed to work, I wouldn't reccomend it for your first rom, but you're the one driving, we're just here to give you directions.

See that 2 in the circle to the right of SD? Thats a class 2 card.
Mine just says class 4 right across the middle.. lol
And for that one guys.. DamageControl or flipz 2.0d is the closest to sprint. It has all the sprint stuff in it.
If I wanna use Fresh Toast, will the ROM still be super fast if I dont use APP2SD because my sd card is only a class 2 and I really want to try fresh toast, and I dont want to take me chances with a class 2 card. Or do I need a class 2 card regardless if I use app2sd or not?

Cool story bro!
same here
Not to sound like a broken record, but I'm having this problem as well....
I as originally drawn to this concept by an article in the unlockr.com, and that person said that it came from damage control, so that's the one I downloaded. So, I have the 2.07.2, but only because it's the first thing i saw
My question is... is this version the latest and greatest, or is this one of many takes on the originally leaked rom... I dont care about overclocking or anything, I just want the latest rom with the coolest features until sprint finally stops dragging their butts.
HeroFixxxed
I installed the fresh2.0d yesterday, it failed me bad. Switched to the fixxxedsenserom v1 last night. WAY faster then the fresh 1.6 i had on it, web doesnt have flash?? thats weak but over all i love it...on second thoughts tho im not sure ill keep the htc sense in it, but it causes no conflicts. and i have a second launcher..anyone want to tell me y this is so important??

[Q] Firmware Question

i have the linx 3G (compal naz-10),
which is the same as the elocity A7,
its running original stock 2.1 Android,
would it be possible for me to use the elocity A7 firmware,
or would i need to have android 2.2 on the device first,
the 3G i do tend to use at times,
will any other firmware wipe the 3G device (drivers)...

this is the result I get for the model you mentioned.

That is not the same as our tablets
its a early model from US,
uses the Sony f3307 3G card which works alright...
thats the Linx N700,
my model is kind of hard to find info on,
but there is a video on youtube,
if you search for the following on youtube a video will come up,
" Compal NAZ-10 Hands-On: Android Tablet Has Sleek UI at MWC "
and
" Compal 7 inch Android Tablet Running Tegra 2 "
So is it linx branded or compal branded?
Being an early model that still had the 3g provisions, does it also support actual multi touch?
Are you in any sort of hurry to sell it?
As for your firmware question (sorry to get off topic).
Unless ours still have the leftovers software wise, you'd loose functionality.
I know inside ours, the 3G antenna is still there, so maybe they got lazy and left the drivers and such in the elocity stock roms too, but it would be to big of a risk for me.
But if you can somehow backup your current rom/partitions/etc then I'd say give it a try.
Just sold my iPad so this is the only tablet i have at the moment,
so how do i backup the current rom which is running...
using the apx mode instructions in the dev section of the forum.
beyond me at the moment. Hell I am scared out of my wits right now trying to flash a new recovery to an HTC Evo through adb ... Never done it before, but I have my fingers crossed so that means it will work lol ... good luck if you take on the backup option.
Cheers,
Will give it a try,
most likely will have a go over the weekend,
as need the device for tomorrow and friday...
Just read the instruction,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022273
and that stuff is crazy
But i think i will have to give it ago as i would love to have 2.2 working,
That's strange elocity removed the 3G card,
But is the sim slot still there next to the 3G card???
the teardown pictures from the FCC showed the sim slot being there...

Check the tear down thread. They changed the board in the production model. While similar to the FCC submital version, it is very different.

ok,
just seen it,
so you will need to solder a mini pci-e slot,
i had to do this a few years back on a eeepc and just couldnt do it,
evently gave up and went down to a tv repair store,
and got a guy to solder it for me in exchange for a drink...

There is more missing than just a mini pci-e slot.
There are parts of the main board that were just completely omitted.
I thought you'd only need the pcie slot, sim tray and antenna,
If we knew exactly what each pin was for,
Then there are tons of other cool mods,
Internal USB storage, sd card, gps (depends on android support),
I haven't tried but want to try another data card to see if it works...
Firmware question...
Upgrading from 2.1 too 2.2 is there no simple update solution,
Or it has to be a full wipe of the hdd and fresh install...

Especially where yours is kind of a one-off prototype-ish one (You ARE the guy with the one that is branded differently and had 3g right?) I would definitely go with a whole new rom and not try to just install over the old rom without wiping. Who knows how much trouble you could run into.
@acid123; i made a point to update the first paragraph to remind folks that they should flash the latest factory firmware using android recovery first, in case they hadn't read that 2.2 has already been available.
i thought it shipped w/ 2.2 myself.
evo; sorry for clicking reply on the wrong message.
It's a Linx compal early version,
So has the 3G built in but came with Android 2.1,
Might as well try this out and see if it works,
Most likely will take ages but will try doing a backuP first and then try the 2.2 rom....
3G Mini pci-e
Hey guys, I found the 3g card mentioned above on ebay! I then opened my A7 and found the perfect spot made for the card - antenna and all - problem is the pci-e plug adapter isn't there. Would have to solder one on - found that on ebay also for about 3 bucks. May or may not work, but I'm not gonna ruin my A7 with my crappy soldering.
Someone wanna try and let us know?
P.S. - it's a Sony-Ericsson card f3307.

Please, read about Apx-mode (in dev section) and check it on your tablet.
If you have it, you can easily dump and backup whole ROM. And restore back too.
In this mode you can even erase bootloader and restore it.

MicroSD 64Gbyte

Since a lot of people think the DHD is going to get old and move to phones like the HOX, I just want to tell you that the new microSD cards with a capacity of 64Gbyte work on this great device! The HOX doesn't even have half of this capacity.
And...ICS is coming too! We still have some great devs here.
There is no need to buy a new phone.
If I haven't already bought the HOX, I would stay with my beloved DHD
Post 8 is card name and pic!
If this was helpful, please push THANKS.

Confirmed!! Works beautifully. Anyone who says otherwise is dead wrong.
Good to know. Nice one.

IT DEFINITELY WORKS with 64gb.
Those saying it doesn't work didn't try it.
I'm using it right now ))
Does it have to be a specific 64 gb sd card or any will do?
I think any card is good...as far as is not a cheap clone and is an SDXC it will work (once formatted)
I too am happy to stick with my Desire HD. :good:
...or we could get another next gen phone THAT ALSO SUPPORTS MicroSD... ie SGS3... ^_~ ...not got one btw... but just stating an obvious logical answer besides sticking with our faithful DHDs
imho its a bad move for HTC to remove SDcard support... capacity for external storage for those type of media will only get bigger...
...opportunity to have 64GB (or more) on your smartphone just can't be easily dismissed. Especially if you carry around a ton of multimedia files as well as a chunk of your work and have a ton of pictures and a good part of your music collection! >_< lol!
ie my 1 and a half hour work commutes would be almost unbearable without my DHD with its 32GB card chock full of goodies to keep me from going insane in crappy uk public transport... @[email protected]
Yeah.
Personally, as far as function is concerned, there is little logical use in changing phones for me. I do in fact have a few more months before my contract expires and I'd like to eventually choose a very new phone that I can also support on my site without being a few months behind everyone else.
Having said that, unless another model has superior battery power consumption/time then I don't have a need for a different device. Like you, I commute throughout the day and therefore need the power to last me through the day, so I tend to limit YouTube, GPS or other things which happily eat away at the battery.
The idea of having loads stored on my device on a large SD Card is fine, but based on the above, I wouldn't use much of it.
The idea of losing the phone with so many eggs in one basket is not very appealing.
The idea of a bigger screen though like the Galaxy Note (which my barber has and showed me) is nice. I'd also consider future devices with removable rear covers, so that it's easy for companies like Mugen to make extended batteries for them. From experience that's real peace of mind.
The Microsoft Surface Tablet looks like a nice device which I could use for work maybe. If that became a primary toy, then maybe a phone would take a less important back seat for a while.

DHD + latest Lord's ICS build (8.2 as I type this) with radio 26.13.04.19 has a great battery life even with all the hammering it takes from using DicePlayer, PowerAmp, exchange Email, Dolphin, XDA Premium and even games like temple run & zenonia 4...
With the above usage... I get the trip to work, actual work usage (i have my desk phone on divert to my mobile) and the trip home... all in one nights charge... so I only need to put it on charge before I go to bed.
Hell, I've even forgot to charge it overnight and I was still able to crawl through most of the day... with charging it late afternoon, ready for the 2nd half of the movie I was watching on my trip to work! >_< hahaha!

I hear you there dude... I had my 1st DHD nicked through a burglary... =(
However, all I ever lost was my 1st 32GB class10 MicroSD as well as my nandroids...
All my files, movies, music and photos exists on multiple devices... so anything that was on my DHD is a copy from my other machines...
...pity I didn't do the same with my Nandroid... I keep them locally for the purpose of error recovery... would've kept copies of it off the device had I wanted to be safeguarded from potential theft... =_=
As it's looking now.. unless HTC starts building new units with SD support, I'll not be jumping on their new range quite just yet...
If November 2012 hits and they've not released a device that fits the bill for me... its looking a lot like I'll be going for SGS3... =_=

Internal memory = eMMC card!

So fun

Is there a difference with a microsd? I hadn't heard of "eMMC" before....
So that means we can manually expand internal memory? seriously, it'd be awesome!
Like I said last week when looking at the teardown pics, I knew it was an micro-sd card you could tell by the shape

I don't know if this should be so easy... This is info is from areamobile.de. In this page they comment this:
[UPDATE] On request, Motorola has confirmed the use of an eMMC memory card in the Moto G. A change of memory card would not help, because the operating system can not simply be transferred from the original memory card to a larger, new card. For this you need special hardware that the manufacturers flash their systems to the required memory, explained Mr Schnieth, technicians from the repair service Smartphone clinic in Berlin.

Should be great if we could buy 8GB version and change the memory for a 64GB one...
There is no such thing as an eMMC card. eMMC are BGA chips normally. You can get eMMC chips on microSD boards but they wouldn't fit in the area shown on the mainboard. And even if it's a mistranslation and they really meant microSD card then a card would only fit upside down with the contacts pointing upwards. How would that work?
I think some wires have become crossed somewhere as the information doesn't make an awful lot of sense. The only way to be 100% sure is for somebody to remove the metal cover to see what exactly is underneath.

You are rather brave
Emmc should be faster than a class 10 microsd
card.
So basically, (the one question we all wonder) can we replace this with a bigger one ?
Like American.Graffiti said, can we go from 8/16G to 32 for example ?

A regular eMMC card
costs A LOT of money (at ** Components the 32GB model costs €96!), and the one Moto G has probably costs more than a regular chip..
Is it worth it? I don't think so..

We can try a regular cheap one to see if it actually works in the first place. Take out the old one, put it in a reader, copy files to a new one and replace
I'm a little confused.... so the microsd on the image was just for size comparison?
Yes, i guess so.
I got tricked too :shame: that's why i asked the question (i just thought to salvage my phone in order to replace the microSD card).

I think more, it's a Toshiba eMMC Chip with 8/16GB. I've seen eMMC-Cards..and they are much greater then the Micro-SD/MMC Formfactor.
http://goo.gl/6sP1tF << As far i understood the Tech of the Shop where i get my Stuff, is this the Chip Moto G uses. 8GB MMC v 4.51 with the Busarchitecture HS200 (200mb/sec, but capped per Hardware)
eMMC for Motorola G
eMMC production company?
Silly people....
eMMC is an IC and not a slot-load card like MicroSD is.
eMMC are used in just about every phone for their /system, /cache, /data etc. partitions.
The metal cover with the blue dot on the photos is just a shielding for an IC laying underneath, which is not even the eMMC IC lol.

[GUIDE] How to use Dual SIM + Micro SD Card on Oneplus X at the same time

[Disclaimer: I'm not responsible for a broken SD Card or SIM card or both and this task surely needs patient hands.]
I have been a great lover of Oneplus X. I love its performance (on ashwin and MA's CM13) and its beauty has always amazed me but the only drawback which I've always felt is the inability to use sd card and dual sims together. Today I tried pretty hard to find out a hack by making SIM card as thin as possible and trimming the extra bump on sd card and guess what ? It works
I am not well versed with XDA jargon, so please bear with me
Be as careful as you can especially when u r removing the SIM card terminals layer:
1. Cut the SIM card along the portion separating the card body and metal terminals with a paper knife as if you are trying to peel off the metal contacts part from the card body. (Be extremely careful here so that you don't damage the chip terminals)
You'll be left with this:

}
2. Take the bottom part of the card as in the following picture, and slightly rub the encapsulation with a sand paper such that it doesn't rub the rest of the SIM card surface. The only objective of this part is to make it thin as there's a bump which would obstruct the SIM card insertion.
It should end up like this:
3. Now take your SD Card and you can observe a minor bump at the end of the sd card which can be trimmed by using a sand paper and this should result in an sd card which is on the left side of the pic compared to a non-trimmed one on the right side.
Now place the SIM card in the slot this way:
Voila..!!!
And the result..?

Wow. High risk but great job
Niiiice, thanks for trying this out and sharing it! Definitely gonna try this myself.
Definitely NOT going to try this, very impressive job though! That's the true pioneer's spirit

@mafioso16 haha... the disclaimer seems deterrent but frankly speaking, it isn't as difficult as it seems considering the fact that you can always replace your SIM card...still, it's up to u

Still, It's kinda dangerous to do this to your SD card. But still, kudos to you.
nice try
It would have been great if u put a DIY video for this, many people would give a try

I had no idea that this was gonna work until it really did. Someone can make a short tutorial video out of the attached pics and forward it to me, be assured I will give credits for the movie making
P.S. I'm not good at movie making
Thanks for trying it. Been wondering about it and might try it soon!
Wow I never thought that could work!! Won't risk it though haha

Is there any chance this could damage the SIM/SD Card pins inside the slot in the phone? Or maybe cause some issues when ejecting the tray?

the SIM card i managed to trim is as thin as a good quality paper...and the sd card bump is also trimmed, so u r practically inserting a normal sd card...what i have observed is, over two days of experience, it's pretty easy to remove and place again and again...never had an issue ejecting, i tried some 8 to 9 times in these two days...
I done it today and succeed...
not too hard but very risky...
enjoying dual sim with memory card..

welcome bro..
I was also thinking of doin this kind of thing with my oneplus x too. Now i am sure i can also do it without any problem.
Damage to the phone!?
Hello, great work. Something i wondered about alot but didnt want to try out.
How is the PHONE handling this extra? Heating up? what side effect do the phone get, im surely secure that the phone was not meant to handle both sim cards and sd card at the same time, or was it? Or did they just made a smart solution for 3 things?
I want to do this but SD card risk is no problem i am more worried about the damage on the phone itself.

I have been using this for a week and what I've understood is our OPX is meant to handle both sim cards and sd cards simultaneously juz as any other mobile but the designing department went with a form factor tweak juz to keep the mobile as thin as possible...I am sure had they provided different slots for sd card and sim cards, they could have faced difficulty at thickness... but that said, it doesn't take away it's ability to handle both...
And coming to my observation, the read and write speeds on sd card are same, the signal strength of sim cards are same and heating is not at all in existence... I use @ashwin007 and @MasterAwesome's CM 13...

Tx mister for answer, great! I will do this for later then. Anyone know anything about thread/discussion about how to disable everything on second simcard except data?
