[Q] Notification Ring - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know how to download a sound and use it for a ringtone but the notification sounds come from a different place. How do i get a sound I downloaded to use on notifications? Or should I say, where do I store it on my phone.
Thanks

If you are rooted, put them in \system\media\audio\notifications. You can also use the file folders on SDcard0 titled notifications, ringtones, and alarms for the various types of sounds if you aren't rooted or don't know how to get to the root directory.

Where are the stock system ringtones stored?

If I wanted to move a tone from my sdcard to the system how would I do that?
Think I found it - /system/media/audio? ringtones/ and notifications/
Looks like that's it.
Were you able to add a ringtone. Do they need to be in ogg format?

That's the correct directories, if u have root u can use either root explorer or the adb cmds via the cmds prompt to move them into the directory.

If you want high res wallpaper and tones including message tones just download zedge from the market. They have good wallpapers and tones there. My daughter used the clip from despicable me "it's so fluppy, I'm gonna die" as message tone and is quite funny . She got it from Zedge.

Custom ringtone?

I know this is gonna sound pretty stupid but I can't figure out how to make custom ringtones on my Nexus 4. On my Galaxy Nexus I would just put a file of an mp3 in the ringtone folder. I'm doing the same thing but when I go to change the ringtone the file that I put in there won't appear in the default choices.

Is that really the only way? With an app?

yes.
If you don't already have a folder named "Ringtones" at the root level of sdcard, create one and put your mp3 files in it. Same for "Notifications".
There is no need to use an app for this. I have 3 or 4 custom ringtones in my nexus 4 and I only put the mp3 in the ringtones folder and it works...:good:
i use the app ringo PRO! well worth it
That's what I did. I put it in the ringtones folder in the sd card. Exactly the same way I have done it since the nexus one but it won't show up when I'm going to the ring tones in sound settings. Do I have to reboot or something ?

Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but I cut my mp3 to the 30 second clip I want and then put that in my ringtone folder. It works fine for me without the need of an app.

Had no idea about the /Ringtones/ folder. Seems like Google should of had that since the beginning rather than have people randomly know this by adding a new folder
either way, rings extended is a pretty good app only 101 K. less than 1MB

Rebooting will do it... or just a little time for the mediaserver to discover it.

Maybe rebooting it's what you need
In that case rings extended is better no rebooting needed
In case you are running Linux, take a look at the following post to enable MTP mode (otherwise, you will never be able to see the existing Notification and Ringtones folders).

Hi
kindly put your custom ringtone to /ringtones folder and or /notifications folder (.mp3 or/ m4peg format)

[Q] Iphone keyclick sounds?

Ive seen so many posts that are old enough to be dropped but i would still love the keyboard sounds from the iphone for my phone, would anyone be able to get ahold of some or have any? i found one but the sounds were from an ipad and did not work correctly
try these
im guessing these are sound files in text format?, and thankyou! ill give them a shot
Yes, rename them as ogg, xda won't let me upload ogg format.
I'm sorry to sound like a n00b but how would I go about changing the keyboard clicking sound??
Which directory do I put the sounds in?
TIA
Edit: I found the directory and there is various sound for keyboard clicking.
Which one do I change?

You can rename it "KeypressStandard.ogg" and put it "/system/media/audio/ui/", remember to fix the permission to rw-r-r.

Q. Sound folder location

Hello.
I have N9005 and I want to add some new downloaded ring tones, alarm sounds and notification sounds.
Can someone tell me where these foldes are located? I'm rooted. Is it as simple as cut and paste into these folders?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
The folder is /system/media/audio
Yeah I have added .ogg sound files straight into those folders lots of times without problems. You may need to reboot in order for them to show up in the ringtone selection list, can't remember.

Blackberry Priv Sounds

Can anyone with the Blackberry Priv, possibly extract the sounds from the system directory? I'm sure it would be very much appreciated by a lot of us folks who do not have the device to extract them ourselves...
Thanks In Advance

How to copy out those sound file?
System/media/audio and choose notifications, ringtones or ui.
Seems like those ringtones are stock android, not a "real" BB ringtones, right?
