[Q] Noob question about S5 developer edition... - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is my first post on the forums. I know this is probably a very noob question. I'm pretty positive my S5 is not a dev edition because I bought it from the Verizon website but...I read on another thread about the hardware version on some of the dev phones sayin it was version G900V.05. When I look at my hardware version it says that also. Does this mean my phone is a dev edition? Please excuse my noobness. lol

Nope, you don't have a dev edition. My hardware version is also G900V.05, and I definitely don't have a dev edition. Dev editions are not sold through Verizon, they are sold through Samsung.

That's what my understanding was as well. I saw the .05 version mentioned in another thread so I was just entertaining that tiniest bit of hope that it was true even though I figured it wasn't. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the software and not the hardware be the difference in the two versions?

I would think. Yes, as they have the Bootloader unlocked by a Key from the Manufacturer, and complete ability to do ANYthing to that phone you want.. Did you hear hardware was different?

No I just saw this discussion http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794674, They start talking on page 2 about hardware version .05 and whether or not it denotes dev edition and since I'm a new member I can't post in the dev section yet so I was just curious.

Best way to tell is look at your baseband and build versions. Retail S5 is G900VVRU1ANCG. Dev edition is G900VOYU1ANCG.

A sure fire way to tell whether it is a Dev Edition or not is to look underneath the battery. It will say "Developer Device" in black lettering embossed in the plastic framework.

New Galaxy S II Models

I've read that there could possibly be a 1.4GHz S II, an NFC S II and a Tegra 2 S II. If there's gonna be a load of other models could this hamper external development for the current S II? If a newer version is released for the US then i guess all development will be on that version and hardware differences could mean incompatibility with the current model. What do you think? Here's a link to an article on the rumoured 1.4GHz S II.
http://www.gsmarena.com/the_galaxy_s_ii_cpu_might_be_boosted_up_to_14ghz-news-2824.php
There are already Tegra 2 Models with a lesser quality screen.
NFC models were announced from the very beginning but no one has yet to see one, they are believed to be thicker. We have reason to believe that the NFC chips are actually present in all of our phones but are software disabled.
As for the 1.4ghz model, this is just pure rumour and speculation based on the industry expects samsung to do something to compete with the iphone 5. If the rumours turn out to be true then all they need is a firmware update to overclock our phones, it won't be a whole new model, more a new batch with latest firmware. I don't expect there to be a 1.4 model though, its not needed.
Can this thread be closed by a moderator as there is already a thread with the same subject matter as this one.
I hope that's the case. I can't find in depth details about the Tegra 2 model just speculation. Do you know the model number?

Amazon review says US unlocked phones won't be getting ICS.

I have no idea about the validity of this. I ordered the very phone that this review is for. Any thoughts?

As long as it is indeed a n7000 u can get the official rom updates here and the awsome roms from the devs. I am using a german note with hk rom and getting hk rom updates via kies . No problem at all.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
That review is not correct.
I just received that exact phone last week, from Amazon. Each Galaxy Note has a region code to indicate where it came from (Mine was from the UAE). This code can be changed to any region you want. This will allow for a stock upgrade to ICS, when it comes out.
Also, just like the previous poster said, you can root and put any rom you want on your Note.
I am running the stock ICS beta, from January. For me, it is awesome. I am running at 213 DPI which gives me the tablet mode look.

So you neither discredit nor credit what is posted on xda and Amazon reviews nor do you place credibility on the opinions or facts of those places above what you personally believe which is based off the things you read which may or may not have any significant validity as to its claims, which is still eclipsed by the fact that you take everything with "a grain of salt" that is on the internet, which is the place you have come to with a question seeking an answer.
I think you should meet with an authority figure who you can't discredit, in person (to eliminate the internet factor), so you can get the facts.
I know the perfect person, he can be found in a mirror.
P.S. stay free
It'll get updated to ICS. Don't worry. But it will be layered with TouchWiz. In this year, Samsung will not be stupid enough to cut the cord on a 3 month old device. That would be pure suicide. The PR nightmare.
Basically true. My conclusions is derived from all the information I've gathered with consideration of credibility of the various sources.

Official ICS & JELLY BEAN discussion/speculation thread

Mod edit:No offence intended to the original OP but this thread has strayed far from it's original purpose.
So from here on out, it's now the focal point for all ICS-related discussion and all the spam that accompanies that.
Mod edit #2:This is now also the official discussion speculation thread for Jelly Bean.
Given there hasn't been an official ICS release yet, I see no reason to have two speculation threads on the go at the same time.
-Step666
Edit #3: ICS Has officially been released in the UK and developers have already made roms for it. Please go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1053 for Latest information about ICS ROMs.
Cool! I think they've had this for a while but have just updated it with more carriers, T-mobile used to say "more information comming".
Obviously this isn't a concrete date but the fact that they've gone to the effort of giving us an update on the progress atleast suggests that they do in fact intend to give us the update eventually.
Now we just wait...

Candian ICS
Question is: can't we (Europeans) use the Canadian ICS on our common GT-P7510? As long as it is the simple WiFi-model, the hardware should be the same, or do Canadian Tabs include different hardware parts than European? Ergo should the software be compatible, as long as there are no carriers involved... does someone have the Canadian ICS as stand-alone software package? I downloaded Kies from the Canadian Samsung-Website, but it didn't found any update for my tab

Razr M

Ok.... Two questions about the new Razr M just announced:
1) Do you have to get the developer edition to use rooting, advanced features, etc.? Or will there be an XDA way?
2) Does VZW usually ship phones that are pre-ordered the day they are announced, or beforehand?
Someone will have the standard version rooted.
Developer Edition will allow full customization though which would be nice.

Can you elaborate on full customization? Do you mean without the developer edition, no custom roms?
Developer edition will have unlockable bootloader which would allow for more customization than what you could do with the standard edition. What we can do on our Razrs (standard) will probably be the same as what we'll be able to do on the Razr M. Dev edition would allow for more customization I think better kernel customizations, more custom roms, downgrading versions (which from what i understand is not possible now due to lack of unlockable bootloader)

All I need is official MIUI JB support
I guess this should be done by itself if the phone is easly unlockable.
The specs are just so nice, small design, big screen, no cheap plastic, dual core...

Looking at the security on the Atrix HD and the HTC One X that is a rather bold claim that it will 100% be rooted. I would not say to expect root on any device from now on unless the bootloader is unlockable.

After 2400 + posts, I think you should be able to answer some of these questions on your own. But seeing that I am bored, I pre-ordered and received the phone by the 13th (the released date.)
Seeing that the phone has only been released for two days, I would not expect the normal edition to be hacked yet. There aren't even any custom ROM for the dev edition either.

It isnt any leak he has he is just speculating.
There are absolutely no plans for an HTC One Google Edition (IOW an official HTC One with vanilla Android). This rumor started with the HTC developer advocate who used a poor choice of words.
What she meant is that there will be an update for the One with a much more minimal Sense experience that should appeal more to those who like a vanilla experience.

I saw that. I still have my doubts. HTC is a bit more closed than samsung and sony. I'm not saying its bad, i love the phone, but its the truth. Samsung is becoming more closed though. Sony is awesome with AOSP
And hey, if they do, then all the better
Alright, so basically the evidence behind this rumor is one guy while HTC itself full out denies it. This is pretty much full-on tinfoil, or, at best, boiled leather.
