[WIP] Rooting Procedure for X2 - X2 General

Hello there users. I'm currently a dev for Nokia X but I would love to help you guys out.
So, I'll be giving out ways on how you can try to get Root on your device. This is a discussion thread.
As I don't have the device myself, I'm counting on people who have purchased it.
So lets start. In order to get development for your device, you need to get a system dump of your whole/entire device.
But for that, you need Root. Heres an app that I think might root the device. http://www.cydiaimpactor.com/
Goto the link, download it and test it out. Give feedback.

And nothing happens. Maybe I`ve done somthing wrong...
So, in a dev options i`ve point usb debuging.
On my pc i got two new devices - Nokia composite adb interface and nokia 2 with yellow mark.
Then run cidia from admin name - usb - driver scan - no device found.
I tried with rooted nokia xl - just to see what happens - error - no such device.

Okay, so that didnt work.
Now, goto this link and download the adb and fastboot drivers for Nokia X and install them.
After that, go HERE and flash CWM Recovery for Nokia X using the instructions given in the thread.
DONT DO THE ABOVE METHOD! As there is no backup, if something goes wrong, you'll lose the device. For now, wait and let me find more exploits. Till then, do install the adb and fastboot divers.
After that, goto ADB folder and Open command prompt from there (Shift + Right mouse button). Then type this:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot -i 0x0421 devices
And see if the device gets recognized.
Then type:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x0421 reboot

You can try this method too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682

Okay will try. For the recovery, I tried both Nokia X's CWM and TWRP already, none of them worked However it's not going to brick my device haha

On fastboot - nothing. I coudn`t install adb from this tread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2744191
Installer told me-unsupported language and close)
I used cmd.exe ,and path to android tools - on fastboot i got nothing. No list of devices. But.
On reboot or others command - answer is - Waiting for device
Super one click - runs adb server around 3 times, then program freez on - Waiting for device =)
If i click on button driver chek - no issues found.
Maybe i`ve got some trouble with drivers ?
I got them from here
http://developer.nokia.com/resources/library/nokia-x/getting-started/device-setup.html
But i haven`t adb_usb.ini where it should be...

adb_usb.ini is important as it is the key that recognizes the adb device to the computer.
Do all the above steps in the guide fully including the adb_usb.ini step.

mmmm, Nokia XL got connected without this file...
I tried all instructions on 3 different pc - this file is missed....
So,i just created this file.
on ADB devices i got answer - 188bde4a device
on command fastboot -i 0x0421 devices-
188bde4a fastboot
then i reboot device.
i`ve try out some comands - i lost recovery....

Copy all data to phone, then go to folder "1" install tr.apk
Make shure you`ve got internet connection.
in folder "2" is SUpersu apk.
In folder"3" - root explorer.
Also you`ll find apk for backup phone.

Device manager shows nexus 7 as Android Phone with "Android Bootloader interface" i cant install adb drivers while in bootloader. in recovery mode i succeeded installing the adb drivers and the tablet is shown correctly in device manager... i need help dont know what to do :crying: .. any suggestions ?

no. ADB and fastboot require separate drivers. just install the drivers required for n7 fastboot. there was a link in that list.
there are tutorials here on xda, as well as youtube videos and tutorials on other sites. take a little initiative and learn the ropes. it will help you out later on.

Just relax and take your time.
If your tablet can go into fastboot mode, it is fine and will get better; the only thing standing between it's current state and being brought back to life is a little learning on your part.
Now you see what the problems are with using a toolkit - because they hide all the gory details from you, when the smallest thing goes wrong you are totally helpless due to a lack of understanding about what things are going on underneath the hood. And as it turns out, what "goes on under the hood" isn't really all that complicated either if you do things the full manual way.
Which is not to say that you can not simply just use the toolkit again; if you previously successfully installed drivers that allowed you to talk to the tablet in all of these modes:
- fastboot
- adb w/ custom recovery booted
- adb with Android booted
then it is not evident that you need to be fooling with drivers.
I suggest you read this thread, from start to finish
[GUIDE] Flashing a Factory Image with fastboot / return to stock
Then, go over to your toolkit thread and read it from start to finish. You will see that there are & have been plenty of people in circumstances nearly identical to yours.
good luck

that does not sound like a problem to me at all.
You communicate with the device using the "fastboot" program when it is in bootloader/fastboot mode, and with the "adb" program when it is in custom recovery boot.
What you see in the device manager appears to be completely normal - In different modes it shows up in different places. It's not supposed to show up with the same driver in different modes.
Code:
fastboot devices
will show you whether you are communicating successfully with the device when it is in bootloader/fastboot mode, and
Code:
adb devices
will show you whether you are communicating successfully with the device in recovery mode.
I suppose your toolkit has some stoopid menu or buttons someplace that will allow you to test for exactly the same thing. Now all you need to do is stop posting here and read a little bit.
good luck

well i did read quite a lot today :crying: i cant find my device when i type in adb devices, im pretty sure i have the right drivers installed since i followed the instructions step by step.
this guy seems to have the same problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1808076
could someone tell me if this could be a possible solution :http://stackoverflow.com/questions/...e-over-usb-via-adb-devices-from-windows-7-x64
also would it be possible to just get into the bootloader (since thats the purpose of adb drivers and i can do this) and just proceed with fastboot commands ? if i type in fastboot devices the tablet will show up...
In your first post, you indicated that you couldn't connect to the tablet that was in bootloader mode with adb.
And then you were told - once vaguely and once quite specifically - that *nobody* can communicate with the tablet using adb when the tablet is in bootloader/fastboot mode.
As stated previously, use the "fastboot" program when the tablet is in bootloader mode, and use the "adb" program when the tablet is booted to the custom recovery (or the regular android boot if USB debugging has been enabled).
You can use either one of these modes to effect a rescue so long as they are working correctly - they don't need to both be working. Eventually you would want that to be the case, but for the moment why don't you just stick with what is working for you.
If you get a device ID printed when you execute "fastboot devices" when the tablet is in boot loader/fastboot mode, that is all you need to reinstall a factory ROM, using nothing but fastboot.

Well, I can't see what instructions you are following, and there is a possibility of sensitivity to an exact sequence. In particular, is a
fastboot reboot-bootloader
performed after the bootloader is flashed, but before the radio is flashed? It might be important that you are performing the radio flash from one bootloader vs. the other. Just a guess. (Along the same lines, do you see something unexpected happening, such as a boot to the recovery after the radio flash command?)
There are some other threads on this I think. (I have a grouper device not tilapia) But I thought that those threads were about problems with radio flashing when a custom recovery (rather than a stock recovery) was on the phone, but that was for applying the OTA package for tilapia rather than flashing directly from fastboot.
-------------------------------------------------------
[Edit] whoops, wait a minute.... "cannot load"
When you run fastboot from the command line, the file names you give are relative to the current directory. Did you move those image files into the same directory that you are executing the "fastboot" command from?
Alternately you can specify the full pathname to wherever you unpacked the files, for instance
fastboot flash radio C:\myfolder\unpacked\googlen7\4.2.2\radio-tilapia-1231_0.17.0_1025.img

I would complete the rest of the steps first and see if everything is still working. Your device *should* still work just fine with an old radio firmware. (Boot it up and see what radio firmware the OS reports on the Settings... about device... status page).
I'll pull down the tilapia image and tell you what MD5 I observe for the radio image.

the google - provided instructions (flash-all.sh) have 10 second sleeps after the bootloader resets - are you waiting long enough?
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-tilapia-4.18.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
sleep 10
fastboot flash radio radio-tilapia-1231_0.17.0_1205.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
sleep 10
Also - something to check since you are rebooting the bootloader - does the device show up correctly in the Windows device manager? (Sometimes with soft reboots I have found the need to pull the USB cable and plug it back in to the PC).

[GUIDE] How To Enter Fastboot Mode

This is the method tried on H815T model. But I think this should work with also other H815 models (other devices cannot say). Thanks to @autoprime, @thecubed and @Unjustified Dev for this.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible if your device gets into any more trouble for this.
Steps:
1. Download & clean install LG Drivers in your pc if u don't have it already.
2. Go into download mode by presing down the UP button and connecting the usb cable to the pc.
3. Go into LG ROOT folder. see this link to download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/guide-root-method-lg-devices-t3049772
4. Double click on ports.bat to know your COM port. Let's say it's COM4.
5. Open a windows command promt by Shift+Rt Click into the Lg Root folder.
6. Now send these commands:
Code:
Send_Command.exe \\.\COM4
It will reply
Code:
SPECIAL COMMAND : ENTER , LEAVE
#
7. Now command type
Code:
id
It should reply
Code:
uid=(0)root gid=(0)root
#
8. Now type
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero bs=8192 seek=35840 count=5120 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0
It will reply
Code:
#
9. Now pull out your battery, put it back in, go into HARD RESET mode by pressing down DOWN BUTTON+POWER BUTTON together and when the LG logo apprears, release the power button for a second and press it back again.
10. Now in HARD RESET, it will ask you whether you want to reset everything or not. Select "No" and it will take you to fastboot mode.
Special note:
1. @autoprime told me to factory reset everything before starting this whole process. I did as my bootloader was locked. Don't know how it affects in unlocked bootloader.
2. How to get out of fastboot normally: I don't know it quitely. My bootloader was locked, so neither I could flash any system file through fastboot, nor "fastboot reboot" or "fastboot reboot bootloader" worked for me. @autoprime told me to get out of fastboot, manually go into download mode, then pull out your battery and put back in. Actually you can't get out of the fastboot that way until you flash a KDZ.
Thank u. Reply in the comments if fastboot could help you any.

Hi,
Thank you very much for this Guide. Unfortunately, having tried to unbrick my device (H815) previously by hard resetting and not having access to Android to re-activate ADB, the Shell (Send_command.exe) didn't help me (at every command it returns a "FAIL" message, my phone is recognized by Windows by the way).
So I couldn't get into Fastboot by following this Guide.
Hope it works for others, waiting for results!

You couldn't get into fastboot or u couldn't flash anything in fastboot? I cannot make my device recognised in adb too, but it is recognised in fastboot. U need to have the adb and fastboot setup in your pc. But I couldn't flash anything in fastboot as it shows my device is locked although someone said, theoritically it was supposed to flash system files through fastboot.

This does not work for me, I have an unlocked bootloader, but just get the response "FAIL".
And... Why don't you just zero the laf partition instead through an adb shell? What does this do that's different?
If we can get into fastboot, can we then do something like
Code:

to get into a custom type recovery and do a backup? I'm on the AT&T H810 version, locked bootloader, I don't know if that means a big fat NO lol or if this method of getting into fastboot mode would even work on my variant.

no one should be wiping laf or recovery to get into fastboot. it's a dumbed down fastboot that doesn't let anything flash or boot. the directions I gave OP were in a PM as a last resort because he was stuck in download mode with no booting and wanted to try fastboot. It was never meant to be suggested in public to users who might think they can get anywhere with it.

Took 2 months to fix, but apparently they changed my locked to three uk H815 "eu open" motherboard with actually unlocked one. So I was finally able to unlock boot-loader, root and **** up (LOL). Apparently I didn't install twrp properly (you'd think "fastboot boot twrp.img" would not install it but run it once) And i was following this to get Android M on. But it requires reboot before boot-loader is flashed. Right when i clicked reboot i figured it wont start in twrp but in stock recovery. So I couldn't even get proper bootloop, it would cut half way into the LG logo. I reckon kdz-ing would havedone the trick, but god it takes ages to DL the kdz file. So in the mean time i found this legendary post. The odd thing was i had to click Yes, on the factory reset screen, but it got me to "Fastboot mode started" and from there i booted into twrp and finished what it had started, currently its Optimising app 35 of 55. Nice one OP, Nice One!

Error updating via OTA

Hi everyone,
I was trying to update via OTA to the latest version, but after downloading the update the tablet started updating itself and returned the Android dead droid error. It is important to highlight that I was rooted with KingRoot and removed it to apply OTA update. Any help would be appreciated

Am in the same situation. Waiting to hear back from Cameron Yan.
Looks like you might need to flash the 1.5 version via fastboot and go through each update iteration.
Yeah u might have to flash 1.5

U can't just remove the rooting and think the update will be applied. Each updated is like a layered cake placed on its foundation. When you rooted you messed with pliers of stability for future layered updates and the updates check where they are suppose to be place. If something is missing or out of place you are going to get an error.

I had the same experience and ended up flashing 1.5 and then going through the automatic updates. Took a little while, but the update installed and I am back to stock for the time being.

If you have rooted, the only way to get OTA that I have found is to reflash version 1.5 and then have the normal updates be applied.
I have done this and then rerooted after I have applied the current update.

Try connecting via USB and then run a command like adb devices and then unplug the tablet and plug it back in. I remember a security (RSA?) prompt that you have to accept in order for this to work. Worth a try.

I follow this tuto (How to flash Remix OS 1.5 from Jide) :
To flash the ROM, please download the file from the following link and follow the below instructions.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B...1FVVR3RkRya29sakQ3SEdVbXU5cUg0YTIzUnNfUTRWMTA
Installing image files using fastboot
1. Make sure your Remix has working fastboot (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Fastboot) and adb (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Adb).
2. Download images
The information of the image zip file:
Images Zip File Name: SK1WG.zip
md5: f993e49ff5f0bfac169dcb62b2e820e8
sha1: 6f9b364f46680ff1294ff2eb9e3fe9aba6592d5a
3. Unzip the downloaded zip file ( SK1WG.zip ) and go to the folder
4. Connect the Remix to the computer via USB.
5. Make sure the fastboot binary is in your PATH (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_paths) or that you place the recovery image in the same directory as fastboot.
6. Open a terminal on your PC and reboot the device into fastboot mode by typing adb reboot bootloader or by using the hardware key combination for your device while it is powered off.
7. Once the device is in fastboot mode, verify your PC sees the device by typing fastboot devices
-If you don't see your device serial number, and instead see "", fastboot is not configured properly on your machine. See fastboot (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_fastboot_intro) documentation for more info.
-If you see "no permissions fastboot", make sure your UDEV (http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/UDEV) rules are setup correctly.
8. Clean the existing data by entering the following command: fastboot -w
9. Flash images onto your device by entering the following three commands:
-fastboot flash system system.img
-fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
-fastboot flash boot boot.img
10. Once the flash completes successfully, run the following command to reboot the device into recovery to verify the installation.
-fastboot reboot

[Odin] Can't flash/root my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-G935F)(Exynos)

Hello everyone
at first, sorry for my bad english, i'm german.
My Problem:
I tried to root/flash my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge but everytime after a few minutes, Odin says it failed.
https://puu.sh/yRCwh/e2b7f1b632.png
I tried many tutorials, like that one, but none worked (BTW: It's not my first time rooting smartphones).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...overy-official-twrp-hero2lte-3-0-0-0-t3334084
solving approaches (which didn't work):
- restarted computer
- tried different versions of Odin (as admin and compability mode: Windows XP)
- also tried different TWRP/autoroot versions
- used every USB-port of my PC
- (un)check Auto-Reboot in options (Odin)
Can anyone help me, please? :crying:
I don't know what i can do...
Best regards and a happy new year
I think you should root your phone by terminal
Did you unlock the bootloader by fastboot?
Download the ADB Toolbox, unzip to c:\user\yourusername
Run the CMD First.
ENTER fastboot oem unlock-----------------unlock your bootloader
2.Download the twrp image and copy to same fouder with adb toolbox
3.enter fastboot flash recovery xxxxxxxxx.img

I tried to unlock the bootloader but everytime I enter this command line "fastboot oem unlock" it's stuck on "< waiting for device >". The device show up in "adb devices" but not in "fastboot devices". I can reboot my device in bootloader ("adb reboot bootloader") but that's it. It seems I can't use any of this "fastboot" - commands.
I reinstalled tool/device driver and tried different ones as well I don't get errors in the device manager. :crying:
@yaro666 what do u mean?
I've had similar problem with Z1.
I solved it by flashing earlier stock Rom with and, then unlocked bootloader.
It was the same issue as yours.
I see PIT in log, can't remember if that's normal or you've checked PIT option in Odin

I tried now to flash with an earlier (17.10.17) and a current (from SamFirm application) Stock Rom (4 File Firmware) but it doesn't work. It failed every time.
I've seen on youtube that there is always a progress bar while flashing, but not for me.
When I click on start there is no progress bar and no colored box (except this 0:[COMX] box) only after a few minutes (that red "FAIL!"-box).
I guess you can't disable the PIT info in the options, so its usual.
Check the deivces or software

[X01BD] Can't install TWRP after unlocking with Official UnlockTool

Hi guys,
I am using Zenfone Max Pro M2. I wanted to install a custom rom and I tried to unlock bootloader but I unlocked it through official unlocktool. Now I can't flash anything or send any command through fastboot, whenever I do then it restarts the device.
When I try to keep the fastboot command running and then connect phone - it throws errors like "Fail - Too many links", "Fail - Write to device fail (No such file or directory)" or "Fail- Unknown command".
I tried unlocking bootloader with the unofficial way provided in https://forum.xda-developers.com/max-pro-m2/how-to/unlook-bootloader-root-asus-zenfone-max-t3885457
but it isn't working either, any fastboot command is rebooting the device although bootloader is unlocked.
How do I fix this?
EDIT: Things I have tried:
- Changing USB Cable and Port
- Reinstalling ADB and device driver
- Reunlocking bootloader from UnlockTool (don't know why I did that again)
- Unofficial way to unlock bootloader
None of it helped.
Thanks

Did ur unlocking bootloader succeed?
Did you try relocking the bootloader ?
1) Try relocking the bootloader using the methods described here :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/max-pro-m2/how-to/unroot-relock-bootloader-max-pro-m2-t3885870
See if it successfully relocks...
If it does, then next time unlock using the unofficial method only...
2) If not then maybe try contacting ASUS... Tweet them on Twitter... Companies usually respond very fast on Twitter, since their reputations are at stake...
3) All else fails then try rooting it using something like Kingroot... Once rooted, flash TWRP Recovery using Flashify... then flash any custom ROM u want...
I hope your problem gets solved... Next time be a little more cautious when taking such a risky step... See what are all the options you have before jumping into something...

Hey you said phone is encrypted ? Maybe this might work :
1) Download and install the latest Magisk Manager apk
2) Extract boot.img from stock firmware
3) Put boot.img in your internal storage and open magisk app.
4) Click on install and select patch boot Image.
5) Select stock boot.img file placed in phone memory.
6) Magisk will automatically patch the stock Image and this patched image can be installed using fastboot using this command:
fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img
This will root your phone. After that you can install Flashify to flash TWRP or PBRP
Note:
- This method is highly experimental... There are 50% chances of bootloop. I would not have recommended this method, but situation seems to demand it.
- Your data will most probably be formatted, so keep a backup.
- If it falls in a bootloop, then you need to flash original stock firmware to restore your phone.

Who came up with this method, but removed it from the main guide, because of being experimental... (I guess)

After going through the errors, I strongly believe that the problem is with your drivers. If reinstalling doesn't works, try a different pc. If your pc detects your device on MTP or your are able to perform adb operations without any hassle, it's not the problem with your phone.
You can decrypt the device only after flashing custom recovery.
