I would just because I'm still using the HSPA+ version. Chances are the next Moto G will have LTE by default. That's worth an upgrade for me.

You are saying it wrong... It doesn't "keep the 720p screen"... It keeps the 320 dpi... Our eyes can't see the difference in the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 screen, because we can only see a 320 dpi image from 20 cm... Unless you use cardboard, you will NEVER notice the difference.

I prefer the rear or bottom speaker placement. It looks like a Moto E successor instead of Moto G. Some Brazilian news sites are saying it could be Moto M.

No it isn't. Notice the front facing camera at the top right? That, and the front panel is far too lengthy to be a Moto E.

I wonder if it will be even cheaper and if yes, and they will but better cpu and gpu there, what will be the cut? without gorilla glass? maybe using TN display this time? weaker battery? the price cut must have to come from somewhere

1. I doubt the screen will be touched, making the next G with a worse screen is waaaaay to Windows (that Lumia 530)... It will just make everything look bad, and Motorola focused on user experience with the Moto series.
2. The battery can't be modified if they put another CPU, the Cortex A7 is the only decent architecture for this battery size, new cpu + smaller batter = 0 battery life.
I doubt it will have any other changes appart from a new camera (this is really a painting canvas) and the front facing speaker.
The good part is, if they keep the same chipset and they release it with Android L, it means we are surely getting M, maybe even N (or if not officially, it will be easy to port, like novafusion team does with the S3 mini, xperia U, galaxy s advance and ace 2, which have the same chipset and use almost identical cyanogenmod builds)

LG Optimus Nexus

So for a while now I've been waiting for a new nexus to come out because my contract is up in December. However its looking more and more that the rumors are true that it will be made by LG and be based off of their flagship optimus g. The specs for the optimus g are beasty but I'm not sure LG can make a high quality phone. How do you guys feel about an lg nexus and do you think you'll buy one?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
I like my TV
Rocking cm9.1
I will definitely buy it if its an lg nexus! They always make great hardware but their software is atrocious, but being a nexus that point is moot
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda app-developers app
Allegedly, there's gonna be a whole line of 5 nexuses (nexii?), with one by samsung, a minor update to the gnex (1.5 ghz a9 dual core). Another would be the lg optimus g nexus (or nexus g) which as you mentioned would be quad core s4 768p, 2gb ram. Another would be the nexus 5 by htc with 1080p, quad core s4, 2gb ram. The new thing about these is that they will have a customization center where you will have the choice of different themes, some of them being manufacturer themes. So an HTC nexus could run sense.

Does anyone know if the actual optimus g came out yet? I would like to know if it lives up to its high specs or is just a bust like the g2x.

Not sure. It looks like sprint and google are getting closer. Although, it looks like tmo is definitely getting it soon since they cancelled the one x + which means there's something better coming (since its probably not bug related because its being released on other carriers worldwide). That doesn't mean sprint can't be soon though. It does surprise me that lg made their optimus g so close too the nexus release. Idk if the nexii would have a coordinated launch either where each are released together worldwide. They may be staggered over the next few months or so.

out in korea. but it's a mixed reception. a very good phone by lg's standard but the software's still a bit of a downside.
hardware benchmarking beats all the android competition out so far.
but must add, american models always have some kinda variance to the original so they might change a few things. seeing that an lg nexus is coming out at around the same time, seems quite likely too.

I would be happy if it came out with a 4.7" screen, because then I wouldn't feel a need to downgrade from my 5" DNA. On the other hand, an aluminum phone with specs superior to the DNA may just force me to switch carriers again. :?

It's kind of standard in forums where a large number of users are interested in switching to a device. It's off topic, but I see it a lot. Like in the Rezound section there's a thread for people discussing the DNA with fellow rezound users, there was probably a rezound thread in the thunderbolt section last year, etc.
It will worth if they put on the new Qualcomm cpu...as for design htc is really great on design for phones....but personally love black & red combination. That's why I own sensation xe and rezound except DNA...as for build quality I am sure would be great...if the m7 aka one will be same as in render photos...I think that will be very beautiful but not as DNA...

well if this phone has a 4.7 inch screen I see no reason I would downgrade to it but at 5 inches, I may just have to dumb my DNA, I am on att so Verizon not getting is is not a issue for me.
The 4.7" screen will mean higher ppi....and that might be their only point against other OEMs.....that's sum trick from HTC "oh let's pull them to the 5" barria then run back and make a phone smaller for every day use" ...to be sincere 5" should have been a no go area for smartphones ....phablet and 5" is brtter

Whatever. Imagine these phones to be like the great wrestling tag team of Legion of Doom. The DNA is Animal and the M7 is Hawk. These devices should dominate of thier carriers. The DNA will thrive on the Verizon network and the M7 will be good for Sprint. Eventually, the M7 will come to Verizon but I'm not ready to jump to get it. Its just another phone and in my mind I have the best on the market.

i can care less about the m7 honestly. im happy with my dna, but what id really love to see a sense 5.0 rom or ota for the dna

Not enough of a hardware upgrade to make me hypothetically regret my DNA purchase (since it isn't available on VZW), but hopefully some of those UI changes will percolate over to the DNA (perhaps contractually already in the pipeline, and the reason for the no-thanks from VZW?). While it's a crazy pain in the ass to get to the local photo storage (why not have a drop down menu for the cloud options?!?!), the Zoe gallery previews from the Youtube video look really great - very Harry Potter-esque, if you will. Obviously, the exclusive hardware things like the speakers and OIS camera are nice, but the DNA takes acceptable photos, and nothing, not a Nokia or HTC, is ever going to take photos that replace my Sony NEX-5N.
Hopefully, the Zoe enhancements aren't hardware dependent, but otherwise, would love to see a quick upgrade for the DNA to Sense 5.

[Q] HTC One (M7) or HTC One X +

Hey everybody! I want to know whether buying the developer unlocked M7 from HTC is worth the $649 asking price or is the HTC One X Plus the better option being generally $200 cheaper with its 1GB Ram and 64GB internal memory and quadcore chip? I must admit the non-removable battery has me leaning on a Sammy Note 2 but is there a way to restart these devices without removing the battery for those of us who customize our devices? In other words, from a frozen state or the need to reboot the device, is there an iron clad way to restart the phone in these conditions...and I don't mean give it a dunk or a bat or use to skip on a pond. For those of you who have in your possession a M7...is the hardware living up to the specs? Thanks!

You can reset it by holding the power button, like the Nexus 4, or any iPhone. You don't need to ever remove the battery. I never once removed my battery in my Note, Note II, or S3. People act like it is such a big deal, it really isn't.

I'd say go with the One. It is a bit more expensive, but you'll have the highest end device currently available (to prevent any flaming: this is my personal preference. The Galaxy S4 is also great, but I dislike the design of the SGS4 and really like htc Sense) and you will most certainly be good to go for another 2 years minimum. The X+ is also great, but the tegra chip and battery life disappointed me greatly on the One X. I can't say anything about the Note 2, but I've heard good things about it. What I dislike about it is the giant screen, but that's again personal preference.

Note 2 because
Better screen ( bright power efficient amoled vs slcd)
Better battery life + removable
Better storage options
S-pen
No blinkfeed
Better camera 8 vs 4 mp
The only real benefit with a htc one would be build quality which is nice, but the note 3 should feature better build quality.

No. No, you don't. It's an opinion and has precisely zero to do with any "logic" that's actually veracious. Try again.
Your rationality behind why it's better (notably the AMOLED) is laughable. Why don't you add hyper-contrasted colors to that list since it's a widely held belief? Or the fact that most people find Samsung's UI ugly as sin? Or that the argument between 8 MP/ 4 MP is a total understatement? Or that you'd have no real way of speaking to the battery life of either device since they haven't even been in the hands of consumers yet?
These questions are, of course, rhetorical.

Just out of interest have Samsung solved the loose battery problem in the note 3, you know where the device will switch off if it gets a knock? I know that wedging it in with a slip of paper helps but why should you have to do that in a high end device?

Moto X vs. the Gnex

Is it just me or does the Moto X feel very reminiscent of the Samsung G-nex?
I think so, too. The GNex, to me, definitely feels better than my N4, recently sold S4 and every other phone I've owned. I wish the X didn't have such sharp edges though and because that it comes in second for comfort. I will never get rid my GNex... ever.

Sharp edges? You sure it's the Moto X you're talking about?

Yea could be certain ways I hold it but the bottom corners dig into my palms, not a big deal because I love this phone.
Sent from my Moto Ghost
I think it does. The look and feel of it is almost like the natural evolution of the galaxy nexus. I love my new moto x
Gnex is much more comfortable to hold if you have large hands, comparing with moto x

It reminds me of the galaxy Nexus a little but I love this phone sooooo much more than my Nexus.

Yeah, but one where everything actually works, it will actually play good games, the battery doesn't suck, and my data is constantly connected.
So actually no, not really.

Lol the gnex is the reason I left Verizon. They gave me like 5 gnexs lemons. Never had reception or battery life screens always developed dead pixels. When the nexus 4 came out I I ended my contract early along with my unlimited plan and went to T-Mobile and have had no regrets.
They do look similar though. Probably overall footprint is close.

Haha same here.
My first gnex had some issue with LTE radio. Second one was OK but it ate batteries like crazy.
Camera was terrible . at least the moto x is somewhat OK. Only thing really similar is the screen size

Yea my first one was flawless but then it stopped charging. Plus I'm on an employee plan so I dont qualify for getting a different device after x amount of replacements. 7 devices later finally upgraded to a note 2 and a DNA

Is it worth a full price upgrade from a Verizon Galaxy Nexus? Full price to retain unlimited data.
I had the Verizon GNex... absolutely horrible experience. The Moto X is leaps and bounds beyond anything that came before it, especially the GNex.

The outside edge of the gnex is so dam sturdy. It's not metal but I put that phone thru more than any other and it never broke. Best tank phone I've ever had hands down.

I loved my Gnex, maybe I just had good luck. It did fine for me. I upgraded to the Motox because my Gnex was feeling a little dated.
After using it for a few weeks, holding my wife's Gnex feels gigantic.
I'm very happy with my purchase... But I was happy with my toro as well.

I've been saying this on both tech shows I host. I upgraded from a galaxy nexus on Verizon. My other choices were the s4 and the HTC 1. I was in love with the gnex curve and form factor / size and the moto x is exactly that. If the gnex was made with better materials it might have felt as good as the moto x does in the hand. Maybe it's because the gnex is a bit outdated hardware wise, but the moto x seems so much faster and more smooth. I seriously love this phone. For my use case, it's perfect. The only thing I'm worried about is getting updates. Verizon sucks at updating devices, so I'm curious when we'll finally get 4.3.

Move from HTC One to Moto X, or wait for something "better"?

If anyone has made this specific switch, I'd be grateful to hear your opinions!
Also, should I wait until March and see what comes out and then make the switch? (my next upgrade would be December 2014) or just switch now? Keep in mind I'd have this till next December!
HTC flagship 2013 vs Motorola flagship 2013.
They're in the same league. It's not really of an upgrade.
What makes Moto X different than any other flagship phones is the Active Display and Touchless Controls.
Those features makes it stand out from the rest of the phablets.
If you MUST have Active Display and Touchless controls, then sell One and get Moto X.

Literally just made the switch and I'm loving it. I'm on Verizon so this is the closest I can get to a pure Google device.

Biggest intial pros and cons?
I just did that switch on Verizon. I like the size and feel of the x better and of course all the touchless and active display stuff is great. Only thing I like about the one is the boom sound and aluminum chassis.
Physically, this x feels similar to my old gnex, which is a good thing.

I made the switch from the One to the Moto X (kinda got a weird call from HTC asking me why I switched) and I wouldn't look back. Actually used my one for a few days last week and I went right back to the Moto X

pros of htc one:
better processor
better screen
ir blastor
speakers
audio quality
pros of moto x:
smaller phone
active notification
touchless control
Do it. My HTC One will be on Swappa in a few hours.
I did this. Got rid of my One thinking that I'd move to T mobile from Verizon, but I love being on the Moto X.
Sent from my XT1060 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
HTC One may have a better processor per say, but the Moto X hands down is much smoother and faster then HTC One. Speaker sound is equivalent on both. Battery life seemed a little better on the One, that would be my only gripe.

Same here.
Cons are the speakers. You just can't beat the One's audio quality.
Haven't noticed any speed differences. If I do a benchmark test, it's obvious, but moving around the UI and opening apps is the same.
The camera is so-so. In KitKat, you can move around the focus reticle which is pretty sweet as you aren't tapping around trying to get the right lighting. I'm leaning towards the One as having the better camera, but it's a slight lean.
I've always preferred stock android and the Moto X is the closest I'll get to it on Verizon.
Also, of important note, the Moto X supports Band 4 (AWS). I live in NY and in the city (Manhattan), Verizon's LTE is pretty awful. Once Band 4 is activated, this will definitely help. The One does not supports AWS.
How does the screen compare? Does the AMOLED help battery life paired with the lower resolution?

I sold my T-Mobile HTC one on swappa for $365 and bought the republic wireless moto x for $299.
I love the amoled and active display very much. Sound is still comparable. Tho I wish more phones would have front facing speakers!
Camera is worse but who honestly takes professional quality pics on a phone cam anyway.
I only really want data when im at work or home and have WiFi there anyway. So the $10 cell/text plan will save me oodles!

Better processor != Smoother experience.
And they both have the same GPU.
I have and love the Moto X, but honestly switching from the HTC One would be quite the downgrade. If you love AOSP then you can flash GPe, cant you? I would've gotten an HTC One in a heartbeat if the cyber monday deal had been for it instead of Moto X.

Flashing the GPe on a vzw HTC one - been there done that. There are things that don't work. Sick of going to Roms where almost everything works. I just want everything to work.

Rule #1 in technology: there's always something better coming, buy what's available now.

I switched. One is a nice phone but Moto x is better, imo.

Same here. Done the GPe, CM, ARHD, PA, none of them are perfect. A lot are close. But none work 100%.
