[Guide] Radio power saving - One (M7) General

Here is how I have set up my radios to save power .
First u need llama and secure settings app from play store both are free apps
Basically there is 2 parts. Refer to the screenshots
1) HTC Power Saver. This mode is under power saver not to be co fused with deep sleep mode .
The Power saver terminates data connection after the screen goes off for 15 minutes . Now we want this to immediately go off instead of waiting 15 minutes .
So this is how I have set it up
Open llama create a new event condition screen off action run a local plugin - secure settings - custom Rom actions - HTC Modes . Make sure it is enabled , press save and back to llama , save llama event
2) extreme power saver mode .
This is new mode in sense 6 roms
However this only works when the battery reaches a low percentage or u have to manually turn it on. Now we want this to turn on by itself after xxx minutes . In this case I have set it to 40 minutes .
So i have created another thread as this
For this pls refer here for the steps :

I will try it, thanks for your work

Ok...just report in later

I have seen that Extreme power saver mode consumes more battery than normal mode. HTC have made a mess of extreme power saver mode in last update.

Hmm why do u say that.....
Which update and Rom are u talking about

Stock ROM Sense 6.0 4.4.2.
If I keep the phone in normal mode overnight battery drain is 0.6%/hour. Roughly it looses 4-5% overnight. I enabled extreme power saver mode couple of times before going to bed and both times I have seen my phone lost 10-11%.

Try LeanDroid, it does a great job of scheduling data to reduce battery usage.

Does power saving mode really save juice?

The way that I understand power saving mode is that it saves juice by changing backlight based on what is on the screen. However in order to do this it.means cpu would be constantly used. So does power saving mode really save juice? Is the amount of battery saved by changing backlight more than the battery used by constant cpu usage?
That's a good question but I highly doubt that they would add the feature if they didn't test that it actually saved power. But, stranger things have happened.

I assume you aren't basing that statement on recent events of failed quality control on high-end phones

And this is based on???
From what I have read, having power saving mode on is another process the cpu has to worry about therefore possibly causing more battery drain. Personally I have disabled power saving mode and auto brightness and have experienced a slight improvement in battery life. I use the slide on taskbar feature to adjust brightness manually.
I have both Power Saving Mode and Automatic Brightness on, 3G off, and I get over 40 hours in normal use! I hope that tells you these settings don't drain the battery and you shouldn't worry about having them turned on.
It is NOT putting an undue burden on the cpu, and small amounts of CPU usage have MUCH less effect than powering the screen.

I have to ask what is normal use for you? Cant imagine getting 40 hrs on any device besides a BBerry.

I find that the 'auto settings' takes away from a session - screen dimming and back again. Swipe to adjust brightness seems to work fine. As far as I'm concerned, the Vibrant is running normal when usage puts Screen at 83% or so.. After all, we bought it for the display to begin with

They released the phone without doing adaquate testing on the GPS.
HTC released the G2 without turning it upside down & seeing the hinge go a flyin.
Just because they threw a feature in doesn't mean that it's been tested.
We're the testers

He keeps is 3G off, thats what's saving the battery. That and he probably was sleeping for 16+ of those 40 hours.
Just an FYI, I have been running my phone on automatic brightness + power saving mode for the past few days as opposed to my usual lowest brightness + no power saving mode; and usually I would get inbetween 3.5-4 hours of screen time (depending on what I did) but now I am getting 4-4.5 hours (same usage). Obviously the automatic brightness does not improve battery life over lowest brightness all the time, so power saving mode must be doing something right -- something aside from just lowering screen brightness as needed.
That is a feature of 2.1 that is intended to help people with LED backlit screens by turning off LEDs in areas that are black. We have SAMOLEDS, which are lit by pixel, and we get battery battery life by using black themes. That is why Fusion 1.1 is nearly all black, and gets insane battery life.

[Q] Suggestions to save life-battery

Hello to everyone, and excuse me for my bad English. I would know how I can save my battery life, because its energy becomes empty in a little time.
And which applications and games have you installed? Have you rooted the phone? Thanks

maybe try juice defender!
wipe the battery stats???
the battery life of my flipout was okay until now! since i deleted juice defender the battery is empty after less than 24 h?
is there any chance to wipe the battery stats?
i know this solution from the lg gt540. there was this option in the bootloader! before you do that u have to charge the mobile over the night and then u have to wipe the stats!
Hi,
Check the Battery calibrator on market, I used it a couple of times...
As for enhanced battery life, this is what I am doing:
* Data on demand only, I m using the "DataSwitch" to kill the 3G ..
* I installed the "SetCPU" and set the CPU to 125Mhz when the screen is off (so to conserve more battery)
If I don't make calls , using mainly SMS..sometimes very low browser/email (around 30min) the battery can last over 2.5 days (48hrs, airplane mode on night 00:00-> 09:00) sometimes more (3days) (if I use the airplane mode more often (ie on bus/train))
thank you!
is there an app to set the airplane mode automatically?
i don't know.. I have a shortcut on desktop (motorola widgets--> Flight Mode Toggle) , alternative , while on desktop, press 2-3 sec the power button , a menu will appeared "Silent mode / Flight Mode / Power off"
but I prefer the flightmode widget..
anyway, I think there are some apps that schedule the flight mode (eg during night times)

Battery Guru App

Not sure if many here use it or have used it , but just wanted to share my experience .
upon using this application first 2 days you will not see any improve ment as the app learns ur phone usage and application usage on day2 it starts working on applications,
This is an awsome app till date compared to Stamina mode as it will not disable notifications nor disable data , but instead smartly runs cpu at lower voltage and frequency for non critical apps and save , I have seen atleast 2X battery increase in the lsat 2 weeks of usage the bettery gets better and better day by day so now I can get through a day full and still remain about 15% of battery
my typica usage 2 hours of Video , 1 hour of Mp3 , 20 mins Browing ,15 mins call and I leave the Wifi , GPS and Bluetooth on . as I listen to music on teh BT Headset .. please share your experiences here who have used it
I've spent 3 weeks testing this, stamina mode, the two together and none at all.
I get on average 14hour use without any savings
I run with most of the non essential (photos play books etc) syncs off, no talk notifications etc
Overall stamina mode when it works saves the most battery... When it works... Saves extra 3 hours over 14.
Battery guru uses more power than not using anything at all for the first 3 days. After that it saves on average an extra hour (based on normal 14hour)
Battery app is more reliable than stamina and offers more control, but at the moment is just not that effective.

Massive battery drain when screen is off

So I have my phone like 4 days now and the first day I immediately noticed that when I turn off the screen it drains battery like hell (60+% in one night). It's like the cpu doesn't go to sleep at all.. Sometimes it works fine and looses like 5% at night that's fine for me but then the next day it will loose 10+ % in one hour by doing nothing...
The phone is pure stock, I changed nothing, no root or anything...
This is really annoying have no idea what it could be that drains so much battery.. Already looked if an app was draining but no...
Someone has the same problem? Or maybe knows how to fix this?
Clear the cache.
In case you don't know.
Turn phone off
Hold Home + Power + Volume Up till you see the Samsung logo, then let go of all buttons.
A menu should load - Navigate using vol keys and select using power button.
I had a similar issue and this fixed it for me.

So did it last night but changed not much at all, at most it drains 2% less an hour..
I'm thinking if factory reset would fix it but I don't really wanna do that..

There is an excellent thread on battery life for note5 which you can use to get tips for edge plus too. Here is the link :
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-5/567125-note-5-battery-life-thread.html
Samsung has provided lot of inbuilt apps like Smart Manager which is like Clean Master you get in Play store.
Open Smart Manager ---> Click on Storage --> click on Detail ---> click on Cache data --> click delete to clean cache.
Lot of people downloaded Greeify, shutupp, wave lock detector and doze which actually use battery. After I uninstalled them battery life increased by 45 minutes.

I agree. Most of the apps that promise to increase battery life degrade it further. In fact, this Paranoia of ours with battery life (keep checking every 10 minutes for battery drop) affects it further.
So, I would suggest uninstall all 3rd party apps. And do not track battery life every instant. And still if you think your battery isn't lasting long enough (check On Screen Time/ Active Time at end of day), contact Samsung.
Hello there!
I had the same problem initially. I wasn't sure which app was causing. So i did a factory reset and reconfigured everything. Now all well. So i guess the best thing would be to backup everything do a factory reset. Then carefully monitor the other app you are installing. There are few that draws lot of power for location services. Then disable that S voice wake up command thingy I am guessing it runs all the time which is not so great. Don't go for Greefiy or any apps like that. Those don't do great job unless you have a Xposed running
So I tried clearing the cache but did noting. I had GPS always on I thought maybe if I turn it off but the same changed nothing.. I don't have any "battery Monitoring" or greenify like app.. Sometimes it works fine but othertimes it drains like crazy doing nothing.. I will try factory reset, hope that will fix this..
Same was here

Hello mate. I faced the same battery drain problem. It wasn't going to deep sleep when screen was off. Last night 6-7 hours screen was off but the device wasted my %19 battery so result was missing the alarm and got late to work etc. Then I rooted and flashing the Arter97 kernel solved this(Now draining about %3). The device is now sleeping deeply like a deeply sleeping baby when screen is off lol.

I'm running custom rom arter kernel tried everything but nothing really fixes completely my problem.. Start to think I have a faulty phone..

Auto power saving in Nougat?

I can't find an automatic power saving option on my S7 Edge on Nougat for when the battery drops below a certain persentage (eg. 15% or 5%).
All I can find is just a notification (for 30%, 40% and 50%) that prompts me to "tap there" to enable power saving which then opens another window with power saving options, I need to tap one, it takes a dozen seconds for it to change the power profile.. it's a drag.
So I'm wondering if there's anything automatic for power saving (like in all Android phones since lollipop) or maybe I somehow turned it off?
My phone was on 13% battery and still didn't switch to power saving (just the notification to tap there to turn it on).
Same here. I also can not find the automatic power save setting on Galaxy S7 / Nougat. How lame if Samsung took default Android feature out.
I see power saving mode on mine just fine.

Quite rude when people are trying to help.
So here's is a partial answer to my question: there is automatic power saving, it kicks in at 5% battery.
Anybody found an option to raise that 5% to 15% or 20%?
I checked everything battery and power saving related in settings and couldn't find it...
Device Maintenance> Battery.>App power monitor. There you can choose the apps you want to set power saving for and choose "Save Power".
It is not exactly the same as in vanilla Nougat, but if you want vanilla, Samsung is the wrong device.

No, that's not at all what I'm asking or looking for.
I know about this list, it is also present in vanila android, and it is completely useless...
I'm looking for an option to set the automatic power saving mode to kick in on higher battery percentage (20% or 25% or 30%), basically anything above 5% what the default is.

Right!? It's weird that auto-power saving only kicks in at 5% battery, but then again the battery is pretty impressive.
I'm getting used to manually turning on the power saving mode and tweaking the brightness if needed.
Yesterday I achieved 9 hours of screen on time, manually tweaking the phone as the battery drained.
Maybe they forgot the option with the 30/40/50% notification to also activate medium power saving.. a simple toggle is missing there :/
I hope they add it in a future update...

Yes the battery is pretty impressive and maybe they'll fix it like you say, hopefully!
I've not been one for power saving settings before but I like how this works, except for the one bug I've noticed is annoying me slightly.
When turning off the power saving and the resolution changes back from FHD to WQHD my keyboard (SwiftKey) size changes to really small so I have to adjust it each time; not sure if it's a bug or because the resolution is changing.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Yes, it looks like they have added a short way to reach the power saving setting screen, but avoid an automatic activation of the mode, rather then at 5%.
To activate it easily and using that fast activation, you have to wait until you get a notification for low battery, then click on the notification and select manually MID or MAX.
I just loved the old fashion automatic power saving....
I noticed the same right after updating. It is extremely annoying. It's frustrating when useful options which used to exist are removed. "Updating" is meant to make stuff better after all...
I liked the 2 power saving options before the update. One decreased performance a little & my screen didn't change. It was a little slower and not as bright. It was perfect and it's gone. The other was Ultra Power Saving. Apps were very limited. It was great when I was in a crunch & couldn't charge it right away. The new "improved" Power Saving is horrible & I hate it!
Updated my S7 to Nougat, couple days and regretting the decision more and more everyday. Yesterday I've noticed hey I'm at 10% and not in power saving mode like why? Oh we thought it be great idea to kick in power saving mode automatically only at 5%.....
There is suppose to be a Battery Saver option that lets you choose between 15% or 5% when to automatically kick in power saver mode. But apparently Samsung removed this option?
Yes, I also hate this change...
If anyone has a link to a petition or something please post it. I used to go powersaving at 50% and kept my phone topped off, I hate even seeing 2x%.
And I dont see an ultra saving mode, you basically flip the customization options each time? I understand the concept -- but we all like to have the phone at full-everything at least for the glorious first 10% after charge.
Then OK for the next 40%.
Then frugal mode kicks in. Being frugal all the time is just no fun.
S7 user here, the same thing happened with android 7.0 update. Really miss the auto power saving feature... I had set it to kick in at 20% and it was what I needed to have my battery last for a whole day. Now with Nugat update the battery doesn't hold for whole day anymore because of this, what a shame!
So there is no option to set it to say extreme power saving when battery drops below 10 % ?
Nope
