PA 4.43 S2 Skyrocket OTA update issue - General Paranoid Android Discussion

After running the OTA update (pa_skyrocket-4.43-20140716.zip) for the Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE (Skyrocket), with no errors through CWM, my phone turns off and turns on, but doesn't get past the Samsung Logo. I can't boot into recovery after the OTA update, but can boot into download mode.
I'll try to reproduce it after I get off of work, and grab the logcats for you guys.

Same thing with my tmo galaxy s2 using TWRP. I was able to reboot into recovery and go back to the previous level.

Did you pull logcats? I can't do it since my phone's work-critical right now, so I need to check in about 5 hours.

Tried again, logcat wouldn't work. The device would not respond to logcat through ADB, as it would turn off before connection achieved.

Dead tab :(

I was trying to flash a custom rom on my newly acquired Verizon Galaxy Tab and something went horribly wrong. I followed all of the guides from here and droidlife, but I keep getting stuck at the Verizon logo and the tab vibrates and never boots. Does anyone know where I can get Verizon tab pit file and complete recovery that includes boot.bin and modem? Any help would be VERY appreciated, I'm about to give up and ship it to Samsung for repair on Monday, but I really don't want to wait 5-7 business days to get it back
I have the same problem but on the Sprint model
Its really frustrating cuz the only reason I cant fix it because I cant find complete vz stock firmware anywhere.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
Yay I finally fixed it by flashing, get this a stock SPRINT rom. Tab booted up just fine, but now 3G is stuck on Sprint(doesn't matter to me since I was just using wifi), GPS and everything works. I'm gonna flash Verizon firmware tomorrow.

ya we went the link of the sprint rom
Here's a brief how-to that revived my Verizon Tab. These worked for me, but YMMV, I'm not responsible if you brick your Tab into a permanent paperweight mode.
Download stock Sprint firmware(the file doesn't have the modem.bin, but it still worked fine), get it here Tab Stock - No Modem.rar
Unzip the file then use Odin to flash the .tar image, it contains all of the necessary stock images except for modem.bin.
When the tab reboots hold vol up and power buttons to get into recovery. Clear data(factory reset) and clear cache then reboot. It will now boot normally, but you won't be able to use 3G and get prompts about data roaming, which you can ignore. Now that the Tab boots it's time to flash it back to Verizon stock.
Visit http://www.droidforums.net/forum/sa...84-how-restore-vzw-galaxy-tab-stock-dj11.html and download the stock Verizon firmware zip. Do NOT follow the instructions from that thread, it will result in an endless bootloop. Shut down the tab and enter download mode then flash System, Cache, Kernel and Recovery with Heimsdall. Do NOT flash param, it makes the Tab bootloop(I don't know why, don't ask). After reboot you may get some error messages about unable to mount cache or find files, don't worry it's normal. Just get back into recovery clear data and cache then reboot. VOILA, your tab is now back from the dead.

I have a VZW tab. If you follow the instructions above, it should be even easier for you as you don't have to flash the verizon files.
I'm not sure about the Sprint modem though.

I'm following your instructions, and I just flashed the tab with the sprint .tar file you posted. How do I flash this in Odin? I'm using Odin v1.3.. Everytime it flashes it goes through OK but then won't boot up. It will just flash the Samsung logo on and off really quick. I can get into download but not into the recovery.. Any tips?
Hmm you can try reformatting with the pit file in the sprint stock package.

Do not do this if you have a VZW tab!!!
I think I just bricked my tab doing this!! I cannot get into Download mode anymore, booting up just shows (in pictures):
Cell Phone ... !...Computer
Did you install the BootStrapper after Rooting the Tab?
I tried so much times to Brick my VZW Tab on purpose. Always end up fail after fail.
With proper directions to follow through, you can not go wrong to Fail.
Did you flash the VZW Klean.Mod V2? I am using that now, never failed once!! Still loving it all the time!!

Heh, I followed all directions, but my tab decided that it was going to corrupt something, reboot, and fail to get past the Samsung logo.
Oh, and I'm not totally bricked. I flashed those sprint files again (the tab was still allowed to connect to Odin) and I'm back to a flashing Samsung screen.

I am going to wait until someone posts an actual VZW dump (shouldn't be too long according to the guy in the other thread). Then try to reflash.
When I tried to use the Pit file to repartition, Odin hung at the "Do not Turn off Target" step. I couldn't stop it, kill the process, so I was forced to unplug.
I then wasn't able to get into download mode...or so I though. However, I held down the volume button + power, got a weird screen, but Odin could see it, so I re-flashed the Sprint files. Same flashing Samsung screen. So I then flashed the verizon files. Now i'm back to where I started lol. It just stays at the Samsung screen.

So i rooted my Tab and immediately went and downloaded Rom Manager and flashed CWM. Once the device rebooted...it never came back. I boots to the Samsung logo and then goes black. After looking around i found this thread below. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this thing to boot, or how i can get it back to complete stock.

Bricked samsung galaxy 7.7 lte verizon i815 please help!!!!

HELP PLEASE!!!! I have the Samsung galaxy tab 7.7 verizon LTE sch - i815 version and im losing hope quickly. Im not sure which way to take to get a working tablet again. Im kind of a noob but have rooted and flashed many devices. Sorry if my thoughts are rambling or all over, but its been a long three days trying to get this to function and im not there yet so id appreciate any help I can get!
Here is what my sch i815 can do:
1) Get into recovery
2) Get into download mode
3) Restore backups that end up getting bootlooped with splash page
4) Install roms that end up in blootloop with the splash page.
5) Flash recoveries with odin
6) Charge tablet battery
One issue is when im trying to wipe before I install cm9 for the i815. When im in recovery and ive tried the p6800 and the i815 with same results, when I try to WIPE data / factory reset the tablet gets to “FORMATTING / DATA” AND THE TABLET REBOOTS TO THE SPASH SCREEN AND GETS STUCK THERE.
My problem is I tried to put the p6800 ics on my tablet and didn’t realize it wasn’t compatible with the sch i815. At first some of the p6800 roms would at least get past the Samsung galaxy tab 7.7 screen, but now its basically stuck there. The only rom or anything that boots past that is the cm9 for the i815. But that just boot loops from Samsung flash screen to start of cm9 and then back to flash screen. I had a backup that worked fine but now it installs the backup and get stuck at the flash screen only. I don’t know if I should try to get cm9 to load past the splash screen boot cycle or find a file to flash with odin which I see there really isn’t any for this model. I did find some posts about a cwm backup file 2012-05-06.22.48.58 and I cant get that to restore either.
When I try to do the zip that is floating around for cwm backup, I try to apply the backup 2012-05-06.22.48.58 and it says checking md5 sums… for a few minutes, then it says md5 mismatch!
I guess any help would be greatly appreciated. I see that I could try to get back to 3e recovery but I cant get anything on the internal sd card because I cant get anything to boot. Thanks for everyones time!!
Have nothing else in the subdirectory that has the recovery. Only the recovery. Nothing else.
me too
Same issue almost exactly with mine.
Got ICS installed OK and it was working fine then started to spontaneously reboot
I cannot restore nandroid backups that worked yesterday
Also interesting that when I try to format data in cwm it reboots
Now I can get an install of cm9 to complete but I'm left with a boot loop
This is an i815
I'm thinking partition table got jacked up
Any ideas out there ?
Thanks

OK Fixed!
how to:
Download android sdk to get adb.
Once you get adb ( adb is an executable program ).
Put tab in recovery mode ( I'm using CWM recovery ). If in CWM goto mounts and storage but dont mount anything.
then ( with tab connected via usb to computer with adb ) run this command:
adb shell e2fsck -yfDC0 /dev/block/mmcblk0p10
For me this fixed some jacked up inodes
Once this was complete I was able to do a full wipe without reboot, reinstall ics and it came back up all good
Hope this helps

OK. Great to hear. I'll try tonight after work. Which ics are I running by the way? Cm9 or the i815?
I'm running the cm9 for i815 from this thread:

works great except for the lack of GPS and LTE, I can live without LTE by tethering but GPS is a show stopper for me so I'm likely going to revert to Honeycomb

[Q] Help! Can't boot past LG logo

I rooted my G2, installed TWRP 2.6.3.1, then tried installing CleanROM 1.0 but it froze during installation, so I held down the power button to reboot and now it won't boot past the LG logo. I tried a bunch of button combinations to see if I could get back into TWRP recovery but I couldn't get it to work. All I could do is get into firmware update mode, which I don't know how to use. Can anyone help me out? :crying:

You can go into download mode by pressing Volume UP and connecting USB to the computer. Then you can restore the stock from there. There is a post on restoring stock, follow that

Just an FYI, I prolly did not freeze during install...
As I noted in my OP it takes a LONG time to decompress 1.5Gigs of RAM.
These roms take a long time to flash, a very long time for some. Let it flash in recovery. Do what others are doing if you need to even if it seems excessive, take a shower or something leave your phone for a while just let it work its course.
UPDATE: I gave up and restored a backup. I'm wondering if the issue is because I didn't wipe System
Hello everyone,
I'm also stuck at the LG logo. I wiped data, cache, and dalvick in recovery. I installed the ROM. Neither of these steps took a very long time. When I went to reboot, it stated that I was rooted and asked whether I wanted to install SuperSU. Since the ROM description stated that SuperSU was included in the ROM, I said no. After rebooting, I have been stuck at the LG logo for over 15 minutes.
Is it supposed to take a long time during the actual install, or at the LG logo? Should I wait it out or work on my backup plan?
Thanks for the help. I'm very excited about CleanROM.

[Q] What causes stock, rooted mf3 to get stuck on att logo? Or with delayed shutdown?

Kinda odd something I came across today in my S4, something I see others having mentioned before. Getting stuck on the att logo screen. I am stock rom, just rooted. Right now it seems to be back to normal on reboots and so, but a few mins ago, it would get stuck there on one boot, next boot might be fine. Now I did go into recovery to try that wipe cache, tho the android icon said error after it started and just rebooted, so not sure the deal there. Just was wondering, is this something that more people get commonly a random stuck on att logo? (Or is it just a odd thing where it could be a super long boot up and just wait?)
Now with reboot or shutdown, anyone know the deal why that seems to take so long to do?
Edit: Take that back, this reboot test, got stuck again on att logo... odd.
Anyone?
Something might have happened that caused a rebuild of the Delvic cache. When that happens, it can take as long as a few minutes to boot, but it should only happen the first boot after the cache wipe. If the problem persists, you could try to factory reset your phone in recovery or just use ODIN to re-flash MF3 to your phone. I suggest you make sure to read and learn about whatever option you try and understand, there is always risk associated with trying anything.
After I rooted, I was having similar issues. But the phone would reset or power up fine if I had the cable plugged in. Eventually figured out is was the battery that was bad. Rooting before the problems started was just a coincidence. Check to see if adding power to USB helps.
I had never tried to clear my cache or reset my phone through system recovery until after I had already rooted. Neither of them worked for me though, it would just say error and then try rebooting. I also got stuck on the AT&T boot logo, but it was every time I tried to boot. I was stuck with my phone like this for about two months. I finnaly fixed it but its still rooted. I haven't wanted to attempt to unroot it and brick it again, so I haven't been able to discover if it only fails with root or not. I will attempt to after I get my 4.3 update from AT&T, which should unroot my phone.

I think I recall the cache problem occurring on even unrooted phones though. The AT&T boot logo issue should be a direct problem from root though.

You will attempt to what?
As of now, there is no Root method available for 4.3 on AT&T. Maybe there will be one, but who knows how long it will take. You would be better off to ODIN MF3 back to your phone (if you are currently on MF3), do a factory reset, re-root, and see if it solves the problem. If not, you can always ODIN back to MF3 again and take the OTA when it rolls out. Whatever you do, make sure you read and learn about it first because there is always risk. Good luck.
There is an odin mf3? I thought I was reading in some of the threads that there was no odin flash for mf3 and that if you rooted, you had to be super careful, cause there was no way to fix any damage done. Did I miss a thread? Cause if I did, I wanna get that flash file, so this way I could start titanium backup removing some of the att bloat.
Also even when 4.3 OTA rolls out, I dont think we can odin back to 4.2 could we, isnt there something that prevents it from going back?
As for battery, its a brand new phone, so dont think it could be that.
