Really isn't much difference. Different icon, and now the persons name and number are green, rather than blue.

This is a BIG DEAL for those on Republic Wireless.
Once we received the 4.4.2 update, outgoing texts would completely disappear (from Motorola Connect) whether you sent them from the phone, or from Moto Connect.
For example: If I sent a text to my friend saying "hello", it WOULD get sent, but the moment Moto Connect refreshed, the sent message would disappear. This made an entire text conversation look like a one-way conversation and was confusing and irritating. ("Did I already reply to that message or not?!?!")
With the new update, ALL messages, sent or received are displayed whether they are sent from the phone itself or from Connect.
This was a known issue on RW phones (because texts are sent through their unique hybrid WiFi / Cell system), and they acknowledged it and claimed to be working on it.
This update was the solution!
I recommend that all RW users update to the new versions ASAP.
Thanks OP

Green is my favorite color so the subtle change is welcome on this end haha

Super! I was hoping for that but had not tested yet.

I'm not sure what this means, "Now located in the Apps Tray." I don't see anything new in the Chrome launcher or my Windows 7 notification area/tray. There is an item under the Google Chrome icon in the Notification area/tray which takes you directly to the Moto Connect settings, is that it?

the big deal is that u can now do a phone search from the app in the computer. so if it is lost in the house or anywhere for that matter you can ring it from motorola connect. this is new functionality to this service.
some people may consider it a big deal that you can now have an app icon available so that you don't have to scroll through the settings to get to the program.

Yeah I forgot about the ring feature. That is a nice feature. I haven't used it much since updating this evening, but I just sure hope the performance is improved. Before it worked about 8 times out of 10. Which is pretty good, but when I send a lot of texts and than a random text doesn't go through, it's kinda annoying.

Motorola Connect still doesn't work for me even with this update.
Oh well

Not anything big but one or two nice touches. Still hit and miss for me regarding the connection between my phone and the app.

They are already making changes to meet the Android L design which is, overall, all green.

It wouldn't break tethering, would it?

to start i don't use this so i am not sure if this is what they mean or not. BUT chrome has an app tray. mine is located on the favorites bar on the far left and it says apps. It is where chrome apps are located. I would presume what they mean is that the app tray in chrome now has a connect icon you can click on to launch it. chrome in the past couple months added this app tray i believe where app icons are located. previously to launch an app that was not running you either had to go to their web page or open up settings and launch it. now there is an app tray. you can also put an app tray icon on your desktop as well as have one sitting in your bottom right corner of windows for easy access to chrome apps. I could be wrong but this is what i would assume they meant.

Well the new update is working flawlessly for me.. Earlier it was not connecting and even if connected, it wont get updated automatically when some new message or call is received.. Now the chrome shows the updates within 5 secs and replying is working too..

Updates in the 2.3.4 leaked Update (Updated with more info)

UPDATE FYI: As far as I can tell from what I am hearing, this update is the same as the one in SOAK right now. I do not know if this is true, but the version numbers add up. Once the update goes live, we will see what happens.
I figured I would put this little change guide up for some of those who are on the fence about updating. So far I have updated and couldn't be happier. I will continue to update this when I find a new change or feel like going into more detail on some of these items.
Changes in 2.3.4
- Revamped UI: New MotoBlur, Different Color Scheme, New Icons
- New Apps: Rich Location, New Tasks App, Music Store, Help Center, Mobile HotSpot
- Updated Apps: Gallery App, Camera App, Camcorder App, Email App, Task Manager, Text Messaging App, Music App, Calendar App
- Profiles option: Choose between Everyday, Work, and Weekend
- New Settings: Media Audio Effects, SD Card Notifications, In-Pocket Detection, Unknown Sources and others
Motoblur -
- UI: The update implements the New Motoblur that has been seen on a few other phones. Included in this UI update is the ability to use multiple profiles. The Menu Dock has changed along with some locations of settings and menus.
We Also have some new Icons for several programs such as the Internet Brower. The Transition screens and the lock screen effect has also changed. When you turn off the screen now, it acts like the Gingerbread animation (CM7). The apps drawer also has sorting features now via a drop down menu.
Update: New feature added to the Notification Bar. You can now remove individual notifications from the list without affecting the rest of the notifications.
New Apps -
- Rich Locations: A new app similar to Google Maps that gives you local places, couples, and even local singles (match.com). You can even view local singles profiles.
- New Tasks App: Included is a tasks app that is rather quick and easy to use. Gives the option to send notifications to the task bar, and persistant reminders. Several different options for priority. No sync to google tasks though.
- Music Store: Well this one is rather obvious and if you don’t know how to use an app store or music store, please return your phone and purchase a dumb phone.
- Help Center: Guided Tours, Tips and tricks, User guide and FAQS.
- Mobile Hotspot: I have not tested this one, but from the menu options you are able to manage the hotspot information and the actual devices allowed to connect by typing in their mac addresses.
Updated Apps -
- Gallery App: Now shows Facebook photos, Camera Roll, My Library, Online Photos from Facebook. New Layout.
- Camera App: Changed the buttons to match the rest of MotoBlur
- Camcorder App: The HD video can now record more than 30 minutes at a time (using the full size of the storage medium), extra click to turn on the LED lights.
- Email, Calendar, and Text Messenger: Just UI improvements
- Task Manager: Seems to have small improvements, but basically the same as before with just a UI revamp
- Music App: Similar Changes as the Camera App. However there is now an option that allows Moto to identify your music and send “anon” info about your music preferences to Moto.
Multiple Profiles-
- Profiles: You now have three profiles to choose from (work, Everyday, and Weekends). As far as I can tell the same ringtones, silent settings, and what not apply to all three profiles and can not be individually set for each profile. It looks as if the Home Screens are the only things that change with the profile (widgets, background, app shortcuts).
The widgets in multiple profiles along with any live wall paper may contribute to battery drain similar to using multiple launcher. I have not tested this as I need my phone and do not want to waste battery testing it when I am still using it. If anyone wants to give it a go and post their results, please do so.
New Settings-
- Media Audio Settings: Multiple settings that include bass boost. May have been on the Froyo version but I have never seen them.
- SD Card Notifications: You can finally turn off the damned sound notification when your SD card is added or removed and when you boot the phone.
- In-Pocket Detection: It locks the phone when you put it in your pocket.
- Unknown Sources Checkbox: Yup it’s finally here and you can now check it and install the amazon app store without having to root your phone.
- Windows Media Sync: Allows you to choose where to sync your media from your PC.
- Secure Network Notification: You can now be notified when a secure network is available
- Peer to Peer (Ad-Hoc) Channel: Choose a channel to setup a Adhoc network.
- Text Message Reply: Gives the option to turn off the Send a text message to a phone caller.
- Contacts Settings: Allows you to change which contacts are visable. Rather nice if you ask me
Updates:
- SD Card Data Encryption: Finally a feature we all wanted!
- Device Encryption: No more police officers looking at your phone...at least in some districts.
- Blue tooth Bypass: Allows you to bypass your bluetooth device and use the voice commands on the phone vs. the bluetooth.
- Advanced IPSec VPN: Not entirely certain if it works or not. We all know it didn't before, so if anyone can test it and let me know, that would be great.

For the most part, rich locations is an rss feed app mixed with a gps mapping system that gives you local information such as restaurants, coffee shops, local singles ads, and coupons from various websites such as yelp, match.com and so on.
Sort of like places on google maps but with a twist. I doubt I will use it often around town, but it would come in handy when I was on vacation and what not.

I am enjoying my update for what it's worth.
New Blur!
I have to say, I kind of liked Motoblur's functionality in Froyo, but it was just so damn slow... The new Motoblur (or whatever they want to call it now) is finally usable, and looks very nice
Some parts seem a bit slower now (e.g., the integrated webpart in Pulse), but still very smooth.
I don't regret updating - finally a Moto Android worth having!

Google Chrome Metro app out now

Yes and I think it's very cool and easy!
Chrome is best on every device! So, I think Chrome on Win 8 is gread!
Enjoying it so far!
Im confused...
Im installed it from the link you provided, But I dont see it installed anywhere??
Thanks for the heads up, gonna check it out tonight.
I'm really liking it so far, it feels just like Chrome and not a Chrome "App".
Only thing I don't like is that its not automatically full screen like the IE app. After entering full screen mode other than having to press F11 to bring the address bar back up it would be nice to just scroll to the top of the screen, or right click like the IE app.
Solid app all together.

Same thing happened to me at first. I already had Chrome pinned to the metro start and when I clicked on it opened regular chrome. After closing it and returning to metro the icon changed to the Chrome app.
non responsive after one day
after using it without much problems (apart from a few crashes freshly after installing), today it has just become unresponsive to touches. opened the internet explorer, it too was unresponsive, reboot didn't help. having made IE back to default browser solved the problem.
been using it on the lenovo x220t convertible
works great I have detected any major bugs.
I installed it but no diff? It doesn't seem to be Metro just normal one.
Edit: Worked now, I don't see any major change, just same old same old Chrome in Full Screen mode.
Does it still support extensions, Does it still have Web Store?
Finally,now I can install windows 8 again

Lmfao at the take out the 9! Old jokes aside, Chrome for iOS has OSX Lion scrollbar...
After setting Chrome to default and having a play with it in its Metro form, I quickly went back to using it in Desktop Mode. At the moment it's not worth being a Metro app because it just doesn't work properly. You can't dock it to the sides because it goes a bit dodgy. Hopefully they will do it properly with an update and it will be in the store along with Mozilla's Metro version of Firefox at some point if they are still working on that...
Does it work with HTC Shift?
Works great for me so far... Cool!
It still has a couple of bugs to work out.
I'n not a fan of the chrome metro app. They hadn't followed the metro app design guidelines last time I tried it, and it just seemed like a buggy version of normal chrome.
Did anyone notice that we can't upload files? The file selection window is not showing up and I cannot find anything about this in the web.

Ah. I have 2 apps that run in background that do NOT show these persistent notifications... They both happen to implement a user setting for notification priority (which I have set to lowest/no icon). Co-incidence? Maybe we need some app changes...
You can find the answer here:
http://www.droid-life.com/2013/05/17/light-flow-update-teases-new-version-of-android-may-require-persistent-notifications-for-some-tasks/
Crappy news none the less.
Apps were always supposed to show that notification when running in the foreground since they can have a huge impact on device performance and battery life.
https://plus.google.com/105051985738280261832/posts/MTinJWdNL8t
https://developer.android.com/guide/components/services.html
A foreground service is a service that's considered to be something the user is actively aware of and thus not a candidate for the system to kill when low on memory. A foreground service must provide a notification for the status bar, which is placed under the "Ongoing" heading, which means that the notification cannot be dismissed unless the service is either stopped or removed from the foreground.
That's the problem I think. What we consider as background apps are now behaving like foreground apps. As said previously it's an app problem. Had one fixed already

I posted this in that Google+ thread, but would be interested in what folk here think:
---
So what's the proper way to do this now (stop apps you want from being killed yet never show a notification)? Is it possible?
There are several utility/monitor type apps that the user would want never killed. But to have a persistent notification gets in the way of 'normal' notifications (aesthetically) and makes the status bar and notification shade look very busy. Would it not be better to allow the user to set that persistent notifications don't show for selected apps of their choosing?

You may be able to still raise the background threads priority with android.os.Process.setThreadPriority(), but I haven't tried it from a service yet. Even without it you should still be okay though unless the system needs to free up some memory.
You can also tell the system your service needs to be restarted asap with START_STICKY or START_REDELIVER_INTENT.

Have Persistent Notifications After You Upgrade To Android 4.3
Posted by Bertel King, Jr. in News
Anyone who has made the jump to Android 4.3, which admittedly isn't that many people right now, may have noticed that some applications now plant persistent notifications in the status bar. We offered this as a disclaimer in our post about manually updating a Nexus 4 to Android 4.3. Turns out, this is completely intentional. Android now forces persistent notifications on unkillable apps that run silently in the background. This is an attempt to call attention to behavior that isn't quite okay.
Notifications3
Many developers have made their applications impossible to kill and don't alert users to the fact that they're still running. They do this by creating a malformed notification object that doesn't appear in the status bar but still tricks the activity manager into allowing the service to enter the foreground. This is great for snooping, but that doesn't mean that only malicious apps adopt this behavior. As Artem's screenshots show below, the Network Monitor Mini Pro was one offender, but the developer has since updated the app to fix the problem.
Notifications1 Notifications2
While Android developers originally wanted to force quit apps that submit malformed notifications, there are simply too many out there for this to be a usable approach. Instead, Android will alert users to the offending apps, and developers will probably be inclined to change their software once users stop using their products and/or bring public shaming down on their heads. Hopefully the bulk of them will have been fixed by the time most phones make the jump to the latest version of Jelly Bean.

Totally lame. I have an app that silently runs in the background all the time and I know this. I don't need Android reminding me of this every time I swipe my notifications menu down.

Open Tunein, go to settings, scroll to bottom, and disable receive push notifications. This removes the persistent notification.
Edit:
Comes back after a reboot.

Guys I think this is gonna be the least of the issues people will have. With the new security restrictions even CM is thinking root is just about dead.

If you do the research you will see that the current super users are using a temporary work around to get it working as SUID is now blocked. You can even read the debate about it on may of the expert developers Google plus pages. Root is bearly working completely while we wait for a perm fix to be found.

Is there like a zip file that could be made to flash and disable this feature? Like a script or something?

It is up to respective developers to properly code so that the notification can be disabled.

Old google maps version 6.14.3 runs well on moto x

If anyone is interested its simple and works well. I used File Explorer with the root addon from netapps its free, deleted the current screwed to hell new version on the moto x and used file explorer again on my razr m to copy 6.14.3 the version that came on my razr m, sent it via email to myself and downloded it to moto x and it installed fine and works like a champ.. I keep playstore set to NEVER AUTO UPDATE APPS
Woah are you the developer of Google maps??

Nice to meet you sir
What's wrong with the current version of Google Maps?
I also never auto update lol. If I update one app every treo months that's allot. Needs to have 4.5+ star rating for latest update. But yeah I'm on 7.4.0 with zero issues, what's wrong with it?

Just not a fan of the new maps that came out last year.. they made it ridiculously hard to get directions from "point on map" I still havent figured out how to get point on map as departure point.. i can as destination but not as departure .. it is so simple in the old verion I use. another thing is the permanent scale bar the have on the old version.. is gone on the new version along with plus and minus buttons to zoom with.. it was perfect before and they made a [email protected]$$% out of it. takes three times longer to get directins than it use to. the two shots below are from my moto x and old version 6.14.3 from razr m, it shows how simple it is to choose point on map.. its easy, and also shows the permanent scale bar i like and the zoom buttons i prefer over double tapping and guessing which way to move your finger to get the zoom you want.. i dont know who was in charge of the update to change all these nice features but it was a huge disapointment..
Good one. New map version has live traffic information mapped on the navigation view which is missing in the old map.
Thanks for the posting.

Looks different.. I will check it out on my nexus 7. I haven't used my moto x with the latest google maps for actually naving but my little brother did on a trip across the country and said it kept locking up on him when he stopped for gas and wanted to continue driving.. he said it would never restart the trip navigation and he would have to re enter the destination. I've never had that problem.. i have heard REROUTING REROUTING several times LOL tho. I don't like the menu design of the new maps.. one more thing I don't care for... If it's now broke leave it the @#$%^ alone!!
I think the main problem here is this was posted in the wrong thread. This should of been under general or apps. This does not belong in development.

I didn't find it difficult to get directions from two pins. You just got to star/save them. Then when you are inputting the directions start/end pick the starred locations for your departure/arrival.
(The pin didn't show up here, but I saved this location using a pin, just like the 1st image)
I like the new maps a lot better than the old maps.
Has anyone noticed that as you drive along a route, that "6 Minute Faster" etc signs pop up but for some reason, Maps does not change the route? It sticks with the original no matter what, and I have to tap that sign or just take that exit/etc. I have to constantly watch the app during rush hour and it's a tad dangerous, but if I watch closely I can save 20-45 minutes daily, it seems.

No.. but im still using old faithful. 6.14.3 it works perfectly.. someone from apple is working on gmaps updating it to destroy it so you wont buy moto and go to apple. I can email you the old version.. so much easier to use and no problems with it
Arak, thanks for trying to help with the point to point directions but you shouldn't have to save a point to use it as a point I try to make my own shortest distance routes using touch the screen as a selection point all the time I don't want to go through the hassle of saving it and choosing from my saved points I'm constantly touching part of a highway and using it from there that spot to come up with a shorter route or just a different route that I wanted shoes no reason I should have to take time and save a point what up bull****
the old version works great just select point on map touch that point boom you are done no saving pins. so glad i was able to root the phone delete the new version and put the old version back on
another thing I don't like I miss Google update crap is talk to type it doesn't work you can't erase words that you didn't say in that last paragraph I didn't say shoes but it refuses to let me backspace and delete the damn word and I didn't say up again I can't get rid of the damn thing whatever you talk and it types it you cannot backspace erase the damn s*** like you used to be able to f****** Google man just leave something that works alone
again.. more .. i didnt say miss in that last para.. but one it is spoken and typed... you cant backspce.. anyone else have that issue? i will check settings see if i can change it. never had this problem on my razr m. if it didnt type what i said right i simply backspaced and corrected it.. but now backspace doesnt work over something King Google wants typed

Amazfit - no notifications from phone

Got an AmazFit A1602 watch, Chinese ROM. Set it up, updated it, played with PACEified for a few seconds (hadn't figured out how to OTA the stock ROM yet, so it hung-up when screen went off), went back to Chinese ROM, OTA'd it, reset it in English, and that's where I left it for about a week. Worked great, loved the watch. But, coming from a Gear Live (that wore out), I can't stand not getting my notifications on the watch...
So I dug further into it. Replaced the Chinese ROM with the English ROM - now it thinks it's an A1612 PACE. Kewl. Whatever. App works, everything works, repaired the recovery and OTA works (wellp, now I'm stuck on it, after finding the bootloader is now locked). But NOTIFICATIONS still don't work!
Tried it on a different device - my Nexus 7 tablet. Still no notifications.
Tried reinstalling, tried different app versions, tried everything I can find and think of. No. Notifications.
Do they even work for anyone else?
Another thread on the saga: https://www.reddit.com/r/amazfit/comments/61w4ga/most_notifications_not_coming_through_facebook
I might just offer "ad-free" for anyone that can actually help, throw a bounty out there and see if someone can help me. I usually end up asking the hard questions nobody can answer :fingers-crossed:
Probably you've tried this already but it's worth to repeat procedure.
After you paired the watch with your phone, you have to enable notifications in the app, choose witch notifications you want to allow/block and let the amazfit app to access notifications. Last part is usually under Android settings, security. Sounds complicated but it's good to have full control.
Notifications worsk perfectly for me.

Yep, that's the first thing I try - but I appreciate the reply/bump! I think I might throw that bounty out there (if legal to do so) - I'd throw $15 at this problem to get it fixed. Hopefully that's how the donate option works
I enabled notification access to Amazfit app in the Android settings. Under the "notifications" options in the app, I get a miles-long list of apps on the phone, but they are all under the option to "disallow app notifications" -- no apps appear at the top of the page under "Allow app notifications". Presumably the top section is for apps that have sent notifications.
I also "disable battery optimization" and allow contact access for the watch as well.
My phone is a Huawei Honor 5x (kiwi) running CM13 (20161223 nightly) - but also tried on the Nexus 7 (2013) tablet running stock OS, unrooted.
Each app on that list have a switch on the right to enable notifications and move it to the "Allow app notifications".

Screenshots how should look like. Latest dev app does not have push notifications but has another tab. Of course, watch must be connected to the phone to be able to receive notifications. But that's obvious Btw, I didn't touch batter optimization.
Btw, Frys still has the watch on $30 off.
p.s.
Now I see that you're my neighbor

That was it!! Goddamn Chingrish... to me, it looked like that settings page was divided into two - apps that had sent notifications in the past, which I could turn off "allow notifications", and apps that hadn't sent notifications and I could "disallow" them from ever doing so. The Chingrish part is that they should be saying "Allowed" and "Disallowed" notifications... not "allow"/"disallow". It simply doesn't make sense to divide them solely by their switch setting... and since I had no intention of disallowing an app's notifications, I never tried switching ones from the bottom! Also doesn't make a lick of sense to disable them all by default - easily seems like it's malfunctioning. I just went through and switched everything up to "allowed" like it is in Android Wear by default.
Wellp, I got a SMS buzz on my wrist for the first time, and everything is awesome now.
Now I have a new problem...

Just sharing my experience. My notifications stopped working and I went through all the above to no avail. Finally I realised I must have accidentally turned on Silent Mode at some point. It may help to check on your watch that Silent Mode is OFF

Gmail doesn't push notifications to watch
Hi all,
I m experiencing this issue and I really cannot understand what is going wrong and why it does it...i recently purchased amazfit stratos English version and I was not very satisfied with the notifications capabilities..i could only see the first email and read it all way down but if a second mail arrived I could only see the gmail logo and a number( indicating the number of the mails that I have) ..but wasn't able to read each message...very frustrating...same for other apps...Viber and line messenger if I receive more than one message I can only read the last one....so I decide to go with the watchdroid app for the phone and assistant for the watch... everything is running smoothly now,I can even reply to messages (for some reason only sms messages not Viber or line) BUT I do NOT receive my mails from gmail...something that with the amazfit app I could...well I could not read them if they were more than one but the push service was working...with watchdroid gmail push notifications do not work....any help would be appreciated guys!
Thanks in advance,
Stratos
