I was also afraid about bricking my Z. However, I decided flash it with the newest ROM 10.3.1.A.0.244.
After flashing several different ROMs, I kept Generic ES one.
I use DooMLorD instruction for rooting newest ROM. Even though it reported ADB outdated and trying to quit, but it's finally done and my Z is now rooted.
Has anyone posted the latest stock rom for the C6616 somewhere or are Bell customers still waiting for the update? I have the C6616 but with Rogers so I don't know if I'll be able to update or not.
How do I flash the firmware you talks about I have read a few posts and the instructions were kind of strange and can I upgrade the firmware and keep my stock Rom for right now

I would love to know if the baseband/kernel on this would work on the 6603. My feeling is that it wouldn't, and sadly all signs point to the physical radio hardware not supporting AWS.
It makes no real economic sense to use a different radio in the Z, to me, though, due to the way they're constructed - it would be cheaper to use the same hardware across the board, don't you think? I dunno. It's just plain weird. They could have just modified the driver in the kernel. It would be good to know if that is the case.

Yes but it is multilingual, you can change language during installation
Country localisation usually differ in additional apps and sometimes in different technical details like e.g. supported LTE bands.
The RU firmware will most probably work in DE, even though it was not originally intended for installation on a German phone.
