Universal IR

Does anyone know of any software that can mimic remote controls via the infrared transceiver?
I have a receiver on computer and other devices such as the TV and am wondering if it should be possible to grab some software to learn the codes and be able to control the computer/TV with the PDA IR like i do with the standard remote control.
Or if anyone knows whether it should be possible to write some software (perhaps in java) to achieve this? As far as i've researched the java framework as standard with windows mobile 5 is MIDlet/MIDP which from looking at the specification doesn't appear to contain any IR interfaces/information.
Thanks
Hello gratz,
Check http://www.novii.tv/pocketpc/, works fine in my JJ.
Best regards, araappa
Any free / open source ones?
Haven't located any yet, anyone have any more info on this?

***Bluetooth and IR Remotes***

I may be completely off my rocker here but is there a way to use the Bluetooth or IR on my wizard to control lets say... windows media player on my computer? Or change channels on a tv?
Are there any programs out there that are written for this kind of application? Thanks for the help in advance.
I have an old PDA iPAQ with no phone capability but it had an app
called NEVO which controlled anything IR like TVs and DVD players
but I've not seen anything yet on an xda.
I'll keep my eyes open.
Call for Wizard IR Remote software!
You might be thinking of NoviiRemote from Novii http://novii.tv
So far their product does not support the Wizard despite repeated attempts (from multiple wizard owners) to get an idea of when it will... they keep saying "they're working on it" but have been saying that since Oct. 2005.
FWIW, I've tested the following competing "universal remote" applications and couldn't get any to work on the Wizard:
- Vivo Remote
- Universal RemoteCE
- UltraMote
- Total Remote (locked the Wizard... had to remove battery)
- Remote Control II (big time failure, couldn't find images)
- TV remote controller (says no Wizard support on homepage)
- NoviiRemote =(
Each were installed to Storage Card (1 at a time). All of them didn't seem find the IR hardware, with error codes varying from non-existent to not even running / crashing. Nearly all the apps would not uninstall cleanly (running WM5 v1.6.8 WWE) had to manually remove.
Clearly there is an opportunity for someone here... there is no competition on Wizards, all this someone has to do is support the OMAP hardware and Wizard users will come running.
Any takers? =)
No he's thinking of NEVO (http://www.mynevo.com/), I too have NEVO bundled on my HP IPaq RX3715 and it's a very slick program, it used to be that you could only get it bundled but I believe they're starting to sell it as a stand alone product now.
The problem with this remote software is that to use it effectively you have to make sure that the IR type built into your device is cIR rather than the more common sIR etc as they have pretty drastic differences in their ranges. So you can get software but if you have sIR then you'll need to be on top of the TV to change the channel.

there is a beta version of novii remote that works on the wizard, its available in there forum.
range is over 2 meters which isn't too bad. i'll post a link if I can find it

edit: heres the link http://www.novii.tv/up/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2667
Yes Novii does indeed work but dont expect the same kind of response as an ipaq. They are fitted with commercial grade ir which works more like a normal remote. The wizard ir has to be lined up directly with the ir receiver.
Its much quicker to get up and change the channel
true but it is fun to turn the sound up on tv's on display in shop windows or inside stores

Which of the services do you use? They offer a few of them and they aren't free.
Do you use this software to control your pc for functions like play and pause your windows media player or winamp? thanks
I found something here... i dont know how well it works...

I know Salling Clicker works great on my Treo. Have not purchased it for Windows Mobile 5 yet. Still I would give it a try. Via bluetooth it controls your medai player, itunes, power point and lets your PDA function as track pad.

I've been lookng for something similar too. Here's the ultimate program for just that. I've used it before for my Palm 650 and didn't realize they made it for PPC as well.
I've just made buttons for WMP and it works like a charm. Connects through IR, Serial port, or WIFI so there's no distance problem. Pebbles program lets you control your computer or programs running on your computer. Try it out, its free and probably one of the best programs that you can configure everything on your own!

As wilesd mentioned, there is a free version, you just have to hunt for it. I use LogMeIn remote, and paid $1000 for 25 clients, but that's less than half the price of the best price I was quoted for GoToMyPC for an equivalent set of user licenses. GoToMyPC is the only other GUI software I found that works, but the WM5 version of LogMeIn is faster than GoToMyPC.
You could easily control WMP or winamp remotely, although logging in to do so will take a few minutes. I'm not sure if this is a solution that would work for you, as it is an IP-based solution... not exactly the kind of 'remote' in which you seem interested.
remoteamp
i use remoteamp, its a nice prog and it controlls Winamp and Media player via Wifi. and you can see al the files on you PDA for scrolling and so.
good app.

Control PC's mouse from Prophet

Is there such a software that i can control PC's mouse or PC from my WM5 ppc via bluetooth or wireless lan?
http://www.freewareppc.com/docs/vncviewer.shtml on your pocketpc
and
http://www.realvnc.com/products/free/4.1/download.html on your PC
or just use the the Terminal Services software that comes with WM5 after setting up Remote Desktop or Terminal Server on your PC
Thanks for reply. I also found a software called PPC Tablet. So far it works great and just like something I wanted. I recommend to anyone who is in need of such a software.
Interesting, it's an input-only remote control software. Hadn't heard of it, looks useful thanks.
However it's not free...
Wow, that program looks very useful, only $14....has it been useful for you?
Yes. I am happy with it.

Freeware Remote App?

If there any remote control applications that use the IR port to control a tv in universal remote fashion? A bonus would be that it can interface with tv's without setting codes first (like those prank remotes on ebay). Freeware. Any help is always appreciated
I don't think anyone has fuguered out how to use the wizards ir as a remote. Not even the companies who sell ppc remote software last I heard about a month ago.
Try http://www.novii.tv/pocketpc/classic/ (don't know if it works, should probably email them)
I just use my old Palm Pilot with universal remote software OmniRemote to control everything (universal remote was all that thing was good for from the start ), but Navi does look interesting.
The IR port on most of the O2 devices is only good for about 1.5m so they're not really suited for a remote control. I've tried a few app's (all commercial) and none was any better than the others. Apparently HP use stronger IR modules which perform better.

[Q] Remote control apps

I am trying to find out if the only thing that should be keeping someone from remote controlling an NON-ROOTED android device with a PC is not being able to inject mouse and keyboard events? what other issues could arise?
I have been working with vnc server and screencast and the keyboard and mouse seems to be the only issue i can find in the code.google site and with testing. I've tried to contact the devs of those apps with no luck.
Thanks for any help you can give.
