Is anyone else losing their WiFi password after rebooting?

thank you beans !!
Was in the process of unpacking the cache.img (already modified recovery.img) to see what needed to be done.
You and Chainfire saved us a lot of time and allows us the true freedom of our device.
Now, off to build my kernel

Worked like a charm.
FWIW: I had to hold down Power, Volume Down *and* Home to get to the Downloader.
Odin 3.09 can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557972

Interesting - rooting cause my Samsung App store to download all the apps I had available to me....everything worked great though! Time to clean up.

Worked great!

I can confirm that works in my T705 SkyHigh kernel, same as for my Note 3 kernel. If i don't add the entry, the kernel will wipe WiFi settings on flash.

Thank you for your suggestion. I gave it a shot but unfortunately no joy. I made the change and then rebooted. I then checked the build.prop in order to verify that the change was still there and it was. I rebooted one more time to ensure that I had a definite clean boot. through all of those reboots it forgot the wifi network every time. So unfortunately that change did not fix the issue. I can't help but wonder if there was some kind of a bug when it reflashed the recovery. I may repeat the root process to see if that fixes it. I have now set that back to true. The setting in question was ro. Securestorage.Support
I don't know if it matters but this is the 32gb model.

I reran the Odin process and unfortunately the WiFi issue remained. Just FYI. I have not yet rooted my 8.4 tablet for fear it will do the same thing as I assume there is no way backwards to remove the issue once it is there. Rather would have to wait on a fix for it. Given someone posted here in the 8.4 thread with the issue as well I assume it is possible it would crop on there like it did on my 10.5. May just have to wait till you get a unit of your own

@HughesNet: If all else fails, flash stock firmware, then re-download root package and start from scratch.

Do you need ADP and Fastboot Tools for this?

No. Just the root package, Odin 3.09 and device drivers.

Thanks. Honestly I am probably going to return the 10.5 and keep the 8.4 so not terribly concerned. Unless rooting my 8.4 does the same thing

CWM + ROOT

This guide is no more. Due to the fact that seedrom193 had a guide made before this but with missing file issue, I did this one
to provide an easy way with more than one option.
seedrom193 fixed his guide now so I deleted this as I promised.
I leave the thread still existing for now. There might be some usefull info for someone to find.
Thank you.

Oh, sorry. I looked over a few of those root guides and some of them had missing links and one wasn't totaly complete I think, so I just thought
I'll do a quick guide on how to get everything in five mins.

First file still missing, and supersu wont be seen in app-drawer unless you download it from play as well.
Every app who wants su will just hang unless you do that because you cant grant or deny access.
I made total unroot today to figure this out, and that was what I came up with. Everything else failed.
About pictures - You can upload them directly to xda. No need to use another host.

I'm not sure if I did something wrong but when I rebooted the phone in 'download mode' it's stuck, saying "Downloading... Do not turn off target!!". What do I do now? I tried running Odin3 but it just said successful but I'm not sure if anything happened.
Update: I noticed that Odin doesn't recognize my drive so I guess it's just stuck in that 'download mode' and I think I know why. I read that the IMEI needs to be recognized and while this was probably not a smart move I followed this guide to root the phone before I put in my SIM card because I have to break it loose and after that I can't use it in my old phone. Question is, what the hell do I do now? Since it says I can't reboot it and I can't use Odin it's a bit of a dilemma.
Update 2: Nevermind, I had forgotten to update USB drivers and then reboot. Question, is it possible to continue without TriangleAway? They warned about potential bricking the phone and I'm not planning on flashing any ROMs at the moment.

Yes but I don't want the risk of bricking the phone. Assuming I don't get a power outage during activation with TriangleAway there's minimal chance that something gets screwed up?

I flashed it with CWM then rooted according to the guide, I don't think I know the difference between firmware or recovery.
Anyway, I haven't booted into download mode again to see as last time I could restart the phone so what do I need to do once I'm there to reboot again to normal mode in case I only want to see if the triangle is there?

Wifi won't work after trying to root. Help!

So I posted a thread here asking for help (the phone was functional at this point) and one user suggested a root method to try out in the comments there http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379833

Ouch. Your WiFi is broken because he told you to flash a US VZW (XT-907) firmware.
Okay. First, you should try to find a 201M restore file. That will get your WiFi back. Next, since you've got a Dev edition, you can bootloader unlock and install a custom recovery, then flash a root zip
EDIT: Found it

While the link I gave him was unidentified as to warnings to non vzw users (now fixed) , the flashing of vzw sw comes in step 8 clearly he would have had to have pulled it from a xml himself if he even got that far. And if he did it would have been from reading the rzr op. As the bare motochopper has no vzw sw inside.

I didn't get the system img at all. I just wanted to flash the superuser files to /data which I thought would set me up to flash the whole thing with Rom manager.
Anyway, thank you for the help. I am downloading the firmware you linked to now. This guide tells me to edit the XML file and remove the getvar text from it, should this apply here as well? (Edit: Cant post outside links, but I think you get my point)
I'm going to use RSD 6.1.4 to restore the firmware. Any further instructions would be appreciated as I have never done this before.

I am glad SC took care of you & I am sorry I lead you in that direction.
Please fill in some details for others?
How do you have a path to the newer sw? Is it your carriers ota? If you can obtain the same in the xml form there is an easy root using a modded ver w/ unlocked phone. The ota.zip could also be useful if you take it while you have root. It resides in /cache.
Thank you

It wasn't your fault for trying to help, so it's ok. I'm glad a solution existed.
I'm more than willing to answer the questions, but I am a layman here so please explain some things for me: What do you mean by SW? I just installed the update by going into about phone -> system update on Wifi. The carriers here don't even support 3G, much less 4G (So now you know why Wifi was important for me).
The phone came unlocked day one when I bought it from a friend's friend. I don't know if he did it that way or if it comes unlocked because it is the developer edition.
I installed CW Recovery using Fastboot. I installed the incorrect superuser file using Motofail which wrote the superuser file but failed at all other steps. I was then unable to either access or remove this superuser apk file.
Since I am back on 4.0.4. now, what's the easy way to get root access and superuser permissions that you mention? I wish other XT902 owners would post here too, generating interest would really help in getting development support for this phone.

Once you root on 404 you can grab your update.zip & copy it to your sd . Any rooting exploit would evolve from that Or the newest xml ver of the 404 you just flashed from rsd. You may be able to request it from your carrier.
---------- Post added at 01:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:40 PM ----------
You can paste the mods from my vzw restore (no vzw software will be used) into the 404 xml & obtain root from a preinstalled cwmr! Then maintain root with voodoo for your ota.
I will help you just read the op. Link is in my signature.

Settings > security > reactivation lock > uncheck it. (for future reference)
Reactivation Lock is a security feature implemented that if you have on and you lose/have your phone stolen it is tied to your Samsung account. If someone tries to flash a new ROM/Reset it, they cannot as it will require your Samsung account info to get past the setup screen.

Off the top of my head it should be in there or around security - (not currently using my N3 as it's got a broken screen so using my N5). -

That's weird. When i go to security settings, top one is encrypt, below that is find my mobile section and reactivation lock is at the bottom of that section.

Do T-Mobile offer a different method of locating a device? Like Lookout or something? I know one of the US carriers do - it's possible the firmware has been adjusted to reflect this due to any deal the carrier may have.

EDIT: Post a pic of your device in download mode if you can also!
I wouldn't worry too much about the S T R A P number versions currently, I think best thing to do is wipe the device, reflash your stock and start again with the CF-AutoRoot that was posted in the thread. It's possible something just may have corupted on you somewhere along the line.

ok, here is what I did:
1: install firmware. it reboots...then shows the android ..( he turns blue), then restarts ....phone works fine.
2: install the cf-root from above link and it installs fine, but then on reboot it gets stuck in "Seanandroid enforcing (something like that) and just keeps rebooting like it wants to go into recovery, but it never does...just bootloops.
3: I read in CF forum to turn off..pull battery and try again...same thing.
Do I need to load a recovery file?..am I missing a step or doing it out of order perhaps?
It's possible that the cf file you are using isn't compatible with the N900T - to be 100% certain you'd have to go over to the T-Mobile Note 3 forum on here and have a look through their cf auto root thread to be sure one way or another. It's puzzled me especially since the method you're using seems correct.

I will do that, thank you...I just saw this online in another forum with others having the same problem:
"I upgraded to kitkat 4.4.2 Note 3 SM-900T and even after odin says pass, it is stuck in Boot loop (which I know how to get out of) and I get this message like everyone else;
Recovery Booting...
Recovery is not seandroid enforcing
Set warranty bit: recovery"
uh -oh....lol...interesting find.
Uh oh indeed. Chainfire may have fixed it since though, he's pretty quick as updating and fixing things as soon as he's made aware of changes.

Root without having to unlock bootloader

I successfully rooted my shield without unlocking bootloader using towelroot. When you install the apk and run it it says it will reboot in 15 seconds, but it will take a little longer than that for some reason so just let it sit for a while. After it reboot I had the SuperSU from chainfire's website downloaded. Use root explorer to open the zip. Go to common folder and install the apk. Worked for me.towelroot.com. download.chainfire.eu/447/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.99r4.zip.

Me too. But it is very easy to unroot through the SuperSU app. I would just make sure you undo anything you change system wise before unrooting like uninstalling busybox.

I believe Geohot said it should work on any phone with a kernel date before June 3. Shouldn't hurt to give it a try. It will either root or it won't. I think the Motorola community has been able to unlock some bootloaders after using this root method. Check the forums for you particular device.

this worked for my shield using latest update with a locked bootloader. brilliant! saved me alot of time!
strange, the app seems to hang ... is it normal ?
Does not seem to work for me, when I click on "Make it ra1n", the app seems to hang and the texte beneath the "make it ra1n" is still "click the button to root no more reboot required" ... and that's all ...
UP : I use towelroot v2, did you use v1 ?
UP2: I tried v1 without success , it's written reboot in 15 seconds but i's been 6 minutes right now ... how long did you wait before it reboots ?

for me using v1 it hanged for about 1min, then I swiped it away in the multitasking panel and the device rebooted itself and then I had root access.. Seems little dodgy but it worked

Does not work with 4.22. I tried it.
YES! GODSEND! I rooted my shield as well as my HTC One X!! SOOOO Stoked!

Hey having a bit of problems hoping someone can help? Like a previous user mentioned Towelroot hangs after clicking 'make it rain'. A few minutes go by and I get a 'not responding' prompt. If I click 'wait', a few Kore minutes go by then same thing again. If I click 'close' the device reboots without root.
I'm at a loss for what to do next.. Is it recommended doing this in safe mode? 4.4.2.
Cheers
How did you get this to work? I downloaded tr.apk v3, installed it, opened the app up and after clicking make it ra1n it says my phone is not supported?
Would changing the modstrings help, if so; to what?

I don't know what the difference is but I used v1. Maybe do a search for that apk and see if it works for you.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 LTE AT&T SM-T337A bootloop Help.

I've scoured the net all day and I cannot find a way to fix my new tablet. I thought I had it on http://forum.xda-developers.com/tab-4/general/link-original-firmware-images-tab-4-7-t2978495 but I got a 404 error. Does anyone have that file?
I had forgotten that you could not do a permanent root on 5.1.1 and used kingo root on it. Now i'm in deep trouble. My new unlocked (once at&t) tablet is boot looped and it has the custom icon, which means once the seller sees that they will know that I tried to root it if they are techy enough. So I must at least get rid of the custom before I can send it off to them for a replacement. (I might be able to blame it on a kid but I don't know how that will fly) I've tried kies, odin and everything else I can find but haven't be able to fix it. So I was hoping that someone here could advise me. I don't care about the info on it, that's replaceable but I really want to know how to fix my tablet. I can get it into recovery mode and download mode but it's stuck on the at&t logo. Can anyone help me? Thanks
From now on I'll leave lollipop alone

I wound up returning mine to the seller....they accepted my explanation and agreed to RMA it. I wont touch this next one, I learned my lesson. Samsung loves to lock the boot loader, I'm lucky it didn't happen to my old note 4 when kingroot unlocked it. It's a shame we cant find or make a good flashable image for odin. Then it would be safe to play. But I know nothing about android except how to use it.

After you fix it. Root with Kingroot only and you will be fine. Then search for triangle away online, you can get it free. Open that up and click to reset counter. That will remove the custom lock that you are seeing. Every time you reboot, you will lose root, just reroot with Kingroot and you will be fine.

Glad to help out. It is safe to root it with Kingroot but after you reboot, root will be lost. Just reroot with Kingroot and you will be rooted again without a problem. Ive been working on a way to maintain root but no luck yet. Just don't replace Kingroot with SuperSU or you will brick it again but at least it can be fixed again if you do brick.
Link please
