Soft buttons on the Tab4 8" - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I recently purchased by wife & I new Galaxy Tab 4's. She had the 10" and I the 8". My question is this, do the 8" soft buttons on the front light up? I read where they were supposed to but mine do not. The 10" do. Thanks

May depend on model, I have the t537a 10.1 model and soft buttons do not light up. Was told there isn't a backlight on my model.

i337, stock rooted nc1, unlocked

My 8" buttons don't

Opinions on the Vivo 5r

Hi fellas, I actually own a Samsung Galaxy S5 with a screen problem. Do you mind telling me if this phone is better than my S5? Does it overheat like a friend told me? I'm looking for a phone for the next couple of years honestly. For the specs and price of the Vivo 5r, is not worth it to fix the screen of the Galaxy S5 (I have to replace the entire screen including the digitizer).
This would be a decent upgrade from an S5 the only thing I would say is that quick actions on the phone are little weird. So when you want to turn on bluetooth or wifi you have to swipe up from the bottom of the screen versus pulling down like most phone.

Is it possible to use SM-T580 with S-Pen ?

Hello,
I have a SM-T580 and I wonder if it's possible to use it with S-pen or another fine tip pen?
The SM-T580 and the SM-P580 have the same hardware, flasher the SM-T580 with the firmware SM-P580 could work?
Actually, the hardware isn't the same. The S-Pen version comes with 1GB more RAM, and I tried to use the S-Pen from a P-580 on a T-580, without luck :|

Thank's
The difference in RAM also exists between the SM-t550 and the SM-P550.
I do not think that the amount of RAM affects the S-PEn, or there is another hardware element that allows the use of the S-pen or it is only a software difference
The S-Pen from P-580 will not work on T-580 because it does not have the Wacom stylus technology in it however it will on any Galaxy Note smartphones. If you need the best stylus pen, you should buy the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S pen or wait for the new Galaxy Tab S3 with S pen to come out.

So the Wacom stylus technology is not just software ?

No, it is a detection layer that covers the entire screen (transparent, like the capacitive layer that detects finger touches).

There is a much bigger difference than the size of the RAM. Tablets equipped with S-Pen have a special mesh screen behind the LCD screen to detect the pen's position. The T580 doesn't have that screen like the Galaxy Note tablets or some iPad models do. So, no, a fine tipped electronic stylus will NOT work with one.

Read this article to understand how the S-Pen work, then you should not expect the S-Pen to work with no S pen tablet.
http://www.androidauthority.com/break-it-down-how-does-the-s-pen-work-154435/
SM-P580 and SM-T580 almost identical except S Pen, however the firmware is not interchangeable.
Try it, Odin will fail immediately as it detect wrong firmware.

Well NONE of the answers were able to tell what to do with a SAMSUNG tab that is NOT equipped with a stylus pen by default, in order to handwrite on it.
So the question might be, if someone by mistake bought a SAMSUNG tab like SM-T585 assuming that it should be interactive with any available stylus SAMSUNG pen, then what is the model of the Stylus Pen from SAMSUNG or any other brandnames that might be compatible with his selection.

How you use the pen when tablet's LCD is not designed for it ? You cannot expect a gasoline car can run by both battery and fuel like a hybrid one.
An electromagnetic field is generated from a circuit behind the screen. The S Pen picks this up and uses it to power itself and figure out its position relative to the screen. It sends this, along with information from the S Pen button and the nib at the end, back to the Note.

Very simple answer to what he can do, trade the tablet in on one that has the HARDWARE necessary to detect an S Pen. There IS NO stylus that will work with any "T" model tablet that will produce fine enough lines for "handwriting".

the samsung universal stylus should work perfectly with this model .
Oem stylus touch screen pen for galaxy tab a 10.1 (2016) p580 & p585 {in compatibility it had the model letter t in front of the 580/585 . Running at au$10.49 on ebay right now .
The day i got my tab i was comfortably using a cheap arse "papermate inkjoy stylus" . Was old and the nub was deteriorated so i upgraded .
If you have any issues with any s pen download an app called write on pdf and it should solve compatibility .
There's the answer you want mate , all the pretentious c♡nts with their non-answers ? , these other wankers probably work for samsung sales department ???
actually, s pen works on t585.. it doesn`t work on t580 =)

No it doesn't. The S-Pen only works on Note tablets or on ones with a P instead of a T in the model number. The samsung universal stylus mentioned in the previous post is NOT an S-Pen. Check on eBay and you'll find it is a CAPACITIVE stylus which is NOT the same thing as an S-Pen. The S-Pen is a Wacom electronic stylus that requires a fine mesh screen behind the LCD to detect the pens position. Neither the T580 or T585 contain this hardware.

Sorry mate, but you are totally WRONG!!! Neither the papermate or the samsung universal sylus is an S-Pen replacement. They are both CAPACITIVE touchpens that will never give you the fine lines that an S-Pen will. Calls us all the names you want, but we know what we're talking about. YOU DON'T!!!

Agreed.
T and P versions definitely have different touch screens.
Even if you could run the P firmware on the T version it wouldn't have Spen functionality.
Can you use the S Pen from the S3 tablet on the P585?
I am keen to buy the cheaper tablet but want to get a better feeling pen than the thin S Pen that comes with the P585.

bluetooth pen for galaxy tab a 10'' 2016

guy is there any bluetooth pen for this tablet, or in general for andorid device, which support a pal rejection mode or something like this? Like an apple pen or huawei m pen
The s-pen on the SM-P580 does everything those other styli do, and does it well. In general, Samsung s-pen has been, for a long time, the best stylus for many people, including me.
And it isn't a bluetooth device, but uses a special detection layer on the screen (not the capacitive layer).

I've read online and many people say that the s pen works only with the galaxy tab a 2016 model with s pen include (or galaxy note), in the one without the s pen included will not work.
I can't buy the galaxy tab a 2016 with s pen because I'm from italy and here it is not sold, so I've bought the model T580N WI-FI 16GB without the s pen.
Do you have the s pen and you confirm for me that the pen will work on this model?

I do have the s pen (SM-P580), but the T580 you have does not have the required s-pen detection layer on the screen. Sorry, I don't think it will work for you.
To be clear, the S Pen will not work on SM-Txxx models.
Having owned a Note 8 (GT-N5100) followed by a Tab A (SM-P355) I'm quite fond of the S Pen, and will buy the Tab S3 if rumours about it's stylus capability are true. Perhaps the S3 be available in Italy?

Well I don't know... fro example if I buy this pen http://www.adonit.net/snap/ which has bluetooth function and use INKredible app on my device which has a palm rejection mode, will work?
I'm not familiar with BT stylus. They don't seem as capable or convenient as the S Pen, but I guess they're better than capacitive stylus.
Good luck!

SM-T550: What Stylus/Pen?

Hi all, I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A SM-T550 without pen/stylus and I'm planning to buy one to take notes (hence with a tiny tip) and highlight books.
From my understanding there are some versions (which are still a "Galaxy Tab A" but probably not SM-T550) which come with a pen called S-Pen.
From the WireCutter Guide http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-ipad-stylus/ I've realized there are 4 possible solutions regarding styluses for tablets:
Rubber nib
Mesh nib
"Other" nib (which includes disc nibs)
Active (powered) fine-tip nib
Bluetooth-powered nib
Of these five I'm considering the option n°3 (disc nibs, e.g., https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R33ZWSC) and the (possible?) S-Pen from Samsung.
Can I use such S-Pen from Samsung with my tablet?
Samsung produces other pens for other devices:

Can I use these ones?
Thanks a lot
The first thing you must realize is that NO stylus for the T550 is going work like the stylus on a Galaxy Note or the TAB A "Pen tablets" like the P580. Those tablet have a fine mesh screen behind the LCD that detects the electronic Pen's position. The "T" tablets DON'T. Make sure any stylus you buy is for a plain capacitive touch screen. And know ahead of time that it WILL NOT give you the "fine line" definition of a Pen or Note pad stylus.
Thanks a lot lewmur
That's very useful information. I'll focus on finding a capacitive stylus then.

Tab S6 (TM-860)

Hi,
My Galaxy Tab S6 screen is completely shattered and dead. Replacement screens are hard to come by or in the region of $250 - $300 which is a bit pricy. Is there any way I could connect the tablet to an external display to repurpose it almost as an android all-in-one or am I stuck with a paper weight? Any help appreciated.
