[Q] Am I crazy? I didn't flash gapps, yet here they are! - General Paranoid Android Discussion

I've got a Galaxy Nexus GSM. Downloaded ROM via AFH through paranoidandroid.co. Wiped data, cache, and dalvik cache.
I flashed in 4.41 Final without gapps. I don't think it asked for my Google account info at first boot, but gmail, hangouts, play store, etc. were in the drawer.
Can someone verify?

Did you have Gapps before install PA for example from previous ROM? If you didn't wipe system, your previous Gapps weren't removed.

We don't host the ROM on AFH... What's hosted on AFH is the gapps

Dirty flashing?

Assistance for gapps
Reboot to recovery
Do a BACKUP!
Format system partition, Data , cache.
Do a install of your rom.
If gapps is not fount download it (The latest version and specifically for your android version)
Install the zip if necessary
Check if the problem is solved

You didn't wipe the system partition from whatever ROM your coming from, which in my guess means they're still in the /app or /priv-app folder.

The procedure is:
1. Format the system, data & cache partitions of your device.
2. Perform a factory reset.
3. Flash CyanogenMod.
4. Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package
Hope that helps!

Same here. Something is wrong
what version of clockworkmod are you using? you may try downgrading to version 2.5.0.7...
I installed cyanogen nightly 7.1.x (253), two days ago and then flashed gapps with no problem on latest clockwork recovery. Try open your gapps archive with winzip or rar, maybe it is corrupted?

[Q] Updating paranoidandroud rom guide

I know there's a lot of info on this subject, but im still confused about a few things related to simply updating to a new version of same rom.
some says i have to wipe all, clear cache and dalvik cache every time, others talk about dirty updating which i guess is without wipe, but do i still need to clear cache and dalvik, or just dalvik cache?, and do i have to flash gapps every time i just upgrade same rom?
like going from 2.50 > the latest 2.52, what i did was:
1. downloaded both pa_grouper-2.52-27OCT2012-190304.zip, and gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip and put them in root of my nexus 7
2. went to goomanager and clicked "flash ROMs", where i selected my grouper-2.52-27OCT2012-190304.zip, clicked "Order and flash selected" and on next screen checkmarked "Wipe cache/dalvik cache partition"
3. clicked flash, and waited..
4. did same procedure (step 2 and 3) with the gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip and now im not sure if that all i needed to do, or if there's something i don't have to do next time there a minor update.. or can i skip wipe cache?, or skip flashing gapps (unless there's a newer version of gapps)?
thanks for any answers

but i still wonder if it's needed to wipe cache/dalvik because it seems to remove some login info fx. in gmail, wallpaper and such, and if it's not needed, then i might as well not do that

If you dont wipe them, it can cause troubles.
Also, it shouldnt affect anything, doesnt for me
Edit: Gapps must be flashed everytime for PA. Forgot to mention that

Found this thread by searching.
I have a question. When you upgrade the ROM, and do all the steps listed above, does this also save the installed apps on the device?

Yes. Flashing the rom, then gapps, wiping cache and dalvik doesnt wipe any apps or apps data

Cyanogenmod 12.1 Google Play not working

Hello, I've flashed cyanogenmod 12.1 onto my galaxy S4 and installed gapps, but getting a Google play has stopped along with other Google services. Can anyone let me know what I'm doing wrong? Steps I did:
1. Go into recovery
2. Wipe data/factory reset
3. Installed cm-12.1-20150927-NIGHTLY-jfltexx.zip from download.cyanogenmod.org
4. Install gapps from opengapps.org (ARM/5.1/Nano)
5. Wipe cache partition
6. Wipe dalvik cache
7. Fix permissions
8. Reboot
Thanks!
Maybe it's the fix permissions part.

Yes I also tried without that step but unfortunately the same errors.
After switching over to TWRP, everything works! So if anyone is having the same issue, switch to TWRP.
Yea twrp is recommended for flashing cm rom especially latest version

Help please.

I just got my Nexus 6p running on resurrection remix 8.1.0 (7.2.0 gcc) and flashed the 8.1 gapps onto it. Everything ran smoothly and i can see all the apps, but whenever i try completing the setup or launching a google app, i get "Google play services keeps stopping" just over and over again. Anyone know of a fix?
Did you wipe system, data, cache before flashing? Have any substratum themes installed?

Try with latest TWRP and backup your current rom
1) download pie rom and save it to your SD Card or OTG Pendrive
2) if you are from stock rom, possibly its partition is ecrypted, you need to wipe data partition first
3) wipe the system, data, cache, dalvic cache, vendor,
4) flash the rom and gapps and wipe dalvic cache, cache again
5) reboot to system
i am just sharing latest TWRP link, i didnt tested it, if it works please reply here. it will help others
check out this folder,

pick the latest TWRP that is synced with firmware.
