Moto G 4G LTE is slower than 3G 8GB version? - Moto G General

Hi All,
Yesterday I bought myself 4G LTE version from Tesco UK. I immediately noticed it is slower and less responsive than my dads 3g version bought from Vodafone. When you try to flip LTE device it takes nearly twice the time of 3G version. Although video won`t show it it kind of stutter when flipping as well.
From what I know brand new device should be quicker and snappier then 6 months used build, but it is not!
Has anyone got any ideas how to fix it? I do not think it is one off bad example. But it may have something to do with kernel and rom. 3G is still on stock Vodafone 4.4.2 while new LTE on 4.4.3 of Tesco.
Any advice? If not I will ask for a refund...
Here is the movie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7vGfR6Cvik

Probably the additional gyroscope sensor in the 4G version. Have you run any actual benchmarks on both?

Try doing a Antutu Benchmark test..my XT1028 and XT1045 comparison..
Yes..as an earlier post..probably the gyro has alot to do with the difference..and other supported features..I done your same test..and my results where the same as yours..but..apples to apples we should compare..lol
Here is my benchmark tests..XT1028 (then) XT1045

I did antutu benchmark test:
3G 8GB old version:
4G LTE 8GB new version:
I am not happy about flipping being slower in new device... I will be going back to tesco and I will ask for a full refund. In my eyes I do not need really gyroscope, but I flip my mobile mutliple times a day and waiting for it to flip 1 extra second is so annoying! I would take my back 2 years in technology and that was not what I wanted buying new mobile....
It is a shame that a new version is slightly slower than old one. I do not think sd card is going to convince me to keep it... I will get 16gb old version and use OTG cable or wait for LG G3 to become available in decent price range 300-400 pounds.

Well it seems to me that your testing has a few flaws...
First, you are comparing two completely different roms and most important you are comparing two roms that are not even on the same firmware version. And as it has been noted elsewhere version 4.4.3 is slower than 4.4.2
But this is Just my opinion

@michalpo, What's the case you are using on your old Moto G? It looks good and protective without ruining the look of the device.

It is decent I must say. I even ordered myself a new one for the 4G version. Shame I returned it this afternoon because that sluggish flipping screen was driving me crazy!!
What I also noticed was the shut down time was different. Old one was just a second or two faster again! When it comes to booting time, new one won it obviously, but that may be cause by many apps installed on old one, while new one was just clean.
I will look for used Moto G 16gb without 4g now or wait for Lg G3 prices to drop.

Haha what a rage quite that was....

Att Pure reviews

I am looking to upgrade my phone but i am divided between ATT TP 2 and Pure. i have seen alot of reviews of TP2 but i havent seen any reviews of pure can someone guide me to the right place where i can read some reviews on Pure
I am looking for the feedback on the battery life as well since i dont really need a phone that i will be worrying about charging every few hours
Here are the first two videos I've come across
http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/windows-mobile-65-att-htc-pure-unboxing-video
http://pocketnow.com/tech-news/htc-pure-windows-phone-hardware-tour-for-att
No 3.5mm jack, 3.2 screen the TP2 and Imagio have 3.6" screens, no rounded corners form factor, and no MediaFlow turner with kickstand antenna like the Imagio The phone comes with no headphones and a very big dongle adapter for headphones. This is a deal breaker for me. The Verizon Imagio keeps looking better and better... functionally and aesthetically.
I'm really liking the LEO, but at this point I'll probably get a PURE depending on the cost of the data plan, so let's get some reviews in here!
I will have mine on Wednesday and will post first impressions.
I upgraded from unlocked Touch Diamond for the microSD card slot, bigger memory, bigger screen. And alas - maybe I wont have to do the silly dance to keep screen turned on at the start of a call.
I may need some help getting rid of ATT bloatware.
DC, Orlando
I am only concerend about the on screen keyboard I hope I will be able to type on it like a iPhone
http://www.mobilitydigest.com/att-pure-review/
i just got my ATT pure will post some impressions
So the pure is the same with topaz eh? Pure is the USA version or what?

The Pure is the USA At&t version of the Topaz. Body is a little different but internally identical.
Thanks guys for posting all the reviews... I went down and picked up one of these for my daughter today. This is a really nice phone, HTC has done a great job with this one. I also really like the body that ATT is using, I think it looks much better in person than it does in pictures. The other thing that impresses me is the speed, Manilla 3d runs smooth and fast.
I may have to go get one for myself..
We've just posted our review of the Pure here: http://www.mobiletechreview.com/phones/HTC-Pure.htm . I've got to spend a few more days to a week with it before I write the final conclusion and talk about battery life. Nice device for the price though.
I just picked one up last night.
I was forced into getting the $30 Data plan after having the unlimited $19 plan for about 4 years. I'm coming from a FUZE to this
the build quality is very nice
the phone is slippery wish it had some contour or rubber on the back
screen is much nicer then FUZE but I'm still wanting bigger.
no 3.5mm jack no big deal
very light and thin
sounds louder with its side speakerphone (NJ laws while driving)
I miss the D-pad for one handed scrolling
Camera seems to take nice pics but
Bummer No Flash - I use to use the Flashlight app with the fuze
Haven't tried tethering to my Laptop yet which I use about once a week.I'm sure it works its in there
never really used the keyboard much on the FUZE so not much of an issue
I was going to hold out for the TP2 but at $150 more just not a good time with $ being scarce. I really just want a bigger screen maybe next year or another device.
trying to HARDSPL it but having problems and errors so I know it will be much better with a Energy rom on it when i get it
[*]one there.
Fuze for sale
A quick question. Do you all have the HTC app for using your phones as WiFI hotspots? It's called 'WiFi Router". Or did AT&T pull that off of the device? The coocked 6.5 ROMs have it in them and it's cool. I was playing halo while using my phone as the router on Edge. But since you ATT folk have US 3G on your Pure's then it'll be even better.
Take that Sprint MiFi.We get free MiFi with every WM phone Purchase.
One more Q. Can someone post up the Software information on the pohone?
OS Version:
Manila Version:
ROM Version:
ROM date:
Radio Version:
I read online that this phone has TouchFlo 3D 2.1 not 2.6, would it be possible to update?
You should easily be able to use the TF3D 2.5 from the HTC Leo
via a cab install or a new rom?

You have to update the new Rom just check out the rom development and you will get all the details there
I just updated to the Energy ROM Leo and love it
so much better in all ways then the stock rom that comes with the phone
and yes this has the WIFI router app and many other great apps.

Photos of AT&T Galaxy S II with a slide out keyboard including benchmarks??

BGR has a new post that has photos of what they believe to be the AT&T version of Galaxy S II with a slide out keyboard. It also includes a couple of benchmarks; Linkpack and Quadrant. I can't believe that AT&T would do this... looks like I'm not getting the AT&T version...
http://www.bgr.com/2011/07/26/exclusive-images-of-atts-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-revealed/
oh my GOD thats ugly!! good thing i live in the UK, no carriers changing my device
Looks really ugly, it will just add to phone's thickness.. and even the camera looks weird in those photos!
Electricpig notes that the Linpack benchmark is about 18.6% higher than an unlocked Galaxy S II (58.544 MFLOPS vs 47.606 MFLOPS)... leading them to suspect that they bumped the CPU from 1.2 to 1.4. However, Quadrant doesn't seem to show much improvement (3056) but then again, Quadrant isn't the most consistent benchmark.

is it just me or does the phone seem smaller than a international gs2 across the front of the screen? did they drop it down to 4"?
If Sprint also drastically changes the design then they have lost my purchase.

Corporate users love keyboards. They are also a prime target for LTE. Going this route kind of makes sense if this is their first LTE phone launched. I'm glad I got the unbasterdized version. Remember, the Z/R got FCC approval on AT&T's bands too. Maybe they'll carry that one also as their more consumer oriented version.
i'm not convinced this is att's official (or only) sgs2. the layout is completely different: camera placement, bottom physical button for instance.

Does this...
Or this...
Look like this...
SGH-i897 is the model number for AT&T's SGS1 so the model number for whatever phone's in the first post uses the same naming convention. Last round, Sprint got the keyboard. This time it looks like it'll go to AT&T.
damn, you're right. our only hope is this is not AT&T's version.
My biggest concern is that AT&T will screw with it so much that we'll need special developers for it. I think I would lose my mind if I went to flash a super duper kernel and it blew up in my hands.
Thank goodness I got the unmolested version of this device. Leave it to US carriers to take something amazing then ruin it.
The horror.. The horror...

Even if they left the majority of the phone as-is, you'll never be able to flash international ROMs due to the different radio(s). I'm sure devs working on it will be able to re-use a lot of what's already been developed but the phone will be too different to share s/w with other versions.
I just got really dissapointed really quickly. Im fine with having four buttons but the slide out keyboard is almost the point of being useless

that is entirely untrue...
The captivate for ATT can use international sgs 1 roms with a kernal that rotates the screen correctly the only difference is that the FM radio didn't work on the captivate as there was no FM radio.
ATT world phones use the same international frequencies as international phones. i currently have an internationall sgs2 and am using it with att with 4g.
keyboard not for me.... Good that I got the international sgs2
Also the Samsung galaxy R kinda looks nice and solid, even though lower specs and slightly thicker.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. Its like they didn't want to release a phone thinner than the iPhone and maybe this even dissolves them of being liable and possibly being sued for selling it as-is. I'm not trying to be a fandroid or anything but I can't help think the ongoing legal battles between samsung and Apple somehow effected the outcome ... disenchanted ... but still optimistic ... would be nice to get new dimensions and weight of this bastardizes phone.

Big plus is that it's alegedly equipped to access Att LTE.
This data connection really has me teetering on selling it.

Which have you got the 7100 or 7105?

I just wondered which model you guys have as I am just about to order mine which I am not allowed to open until Xmas day
I will be getting the 7100 as I can't get the 7105 in the UK at present but I am assured that the connectivity on the 7100 is much faster than my 3G only iphone 4 so that will be great
I have to say I am so looking forward to getting this phone more than the iphone I now have, in fact I was in a store the other day and picked the iphone 5 up and the icons and home screen just looked so dated!!
I know the 7100 isn't going to be able to get 4G but I am sure it will be fast enough for me
Andy
I have the N7100 in Sweden on a 3g network and it is really fast. I don't know wether my old SGSI couldn't handle all the information being thrown at it when I surfed the web or wether it couldn't render the images quick enough. What ever the reason this phone on the same network or wifi loads and displays webpages instantly, in comparrison.

I have the 7105 updated to 4.1.2. It is plenty fast on a 4G connection, without LTE being activated.

There is a thread showing how to unlock the 7105, don't let that stop you. But if you can't easily find one then go with what you can find. When I picked mine up, it was only 1 of 4 to come in that week. I had bugged them enough that they put one aside for me
N7105T It's like the N7105, but just missing the 800MHz band. It's my first Android phone but I am loving it - it's so fast and there is so much you can do with it! Probably a good idea to get the 4G one so you can have 4G in the future if needed, and you can unlock it easily anyway.
N7105 has faster data speeds even if you're not on LTE because it supports DC-HSPA so in theory twice the speed of N7100 over a 3g network (42 Mbps vs. 21 Mbps). Of course you operator must be supporting this. But for me this shouldn't be the only deciding factor, N7100 is fast enough for me.

LG's new ICS UI is awesome especially how the designed it. The lock screen it really good. The smoothness of the launcher is amazing. Also on my LG Spectrum there is a option to disable the bloat in apps, so I figure the LG Mach is the same way. I'm jealous of the keyboard and cpu of S4 Pro. I have no keyboard and S3 .. Also yes the launcher does go landscape it doesn't show that in the photos for what reason I'm not sure
Yeah I got to try LG's ICS finally and I really liked it, my parents got the LG Lucid on Verizon. It convinced me to go with the Optimus G when I upgrade, I'll definitely trade the keyboard for a Quad Core and 13mp camera lol. I do like that it is a 5 row keyboard tho, if I could trade my Shift straight up and not sign a contract I would so do it tho

Yeah LG's ICS is really really good. I try to convince many but hardly any believe me to bad rep with LG. Personally I LOVE my phone. Only downside to mine is it tends to over heat a lil and it has bad battery life. I'm upgrading to the LG Spectrum 2 in March so it should have 0 problems ... The LG Spectrum 2 has wireless charging >_< I can't wait.. I'm super excited to see it in my hands! Also LG Lucid was my second choice when I went to Verizon but LG Spectrum has bigger screen and 1.5ghz dual core and we have nearly stable CM9 now.. CM10 is booted now with working data and all so it should be out in a week or so.. .. I just wanted to post this thread to inform people that want a keyboard phone again but want a lot of speed. I believe this phone is super fast and competes with the Motorola one on Sprint
The Lucid is my parents first smartphones. My dad used 51% of their data in the first three days lol. But yeah it was super smooth and I like the design of their phones too. LG really stepped their game up in the last year. The original Optimus sucked, it came out about the same time as the Shift. I played with it and then the Shift blew me away lol. But it was the same thing playing with the LG Lucid. It blew the Shift away, I don't know the specs on it, but they said it was the free phone so it can't be too much more than the Shift, the screen was the same size. But it was so much faster and smoother I was amazed after a few mins.

I had the Optimus S for a small time.. It was surprisingly fast.. It ran GTA III but lagged.. It has the best signal hands down. HTC Hero sucked with signal and so did evo shift. The Optimus S is really good with signal.. I'm assuming that's why it's still selling .. LG's signals are best. My LG Spectrum beats Galaxy Nexus's signal. So the LG Mach should do good in that area.

Canadian release April 8th? Who's in?

I'm with Wind Mobile (who's vague as an abstract painting about their release), but they're only giving out phones to new accounts.
The trick is to go to one of their corporate offices (which would be a "warranty repair centre") where they can't deny you a sale of said new device.
So, tomorrow, bright and early, this guy's going into town with the hopes that they have one in stock.
Wind doesn't lock their phones like other carriers do (not at all), so it's going to be interesting to see whether we can get full root on this thing or not (fingers crossed).
Who's going in on said device here in Canada?
Post phone lock states and whatnot to this thread! For science, and curiosity. :fingers-crossed:

Apparently the Wind shop closest to me is backordered on said G5 for at least one week, rep would not confirm anything else (still vague).
Roommate snagged one up at a Bell kiosk just as they got a shipment of camera modules in stock. He spent an hour there between the kiosk rep and on the phone with "customer loyalty" trying to get a better deal since he's been with them 10 years, and nothing came out of it other than the standard free attachment.
His phone warmed up a fair bit during initial setup and charging but he seems happy with it overall. His only gripe is -- why can't the camera attachment hardware buttons snap a photo while screen off?
I got mine - here in Manitoba.
Picked mine up earlier today with the cam plus module for free! I thought they were only giving these to those who re-upped for two years.

- But I did re-up. Sweet, fast phone with some refined MM goodness. Watch out for the edges of the screen protector.
The screen "tapers" or is slightly thinner at the edges/corners - looks like a recipe for frustration as the screen protector will not remain perfect for long. I noticed the after enabling Dev Options I have the "Enable OEM Unlocking" function. I have no illusions that anything would be this simple.....
Yeah but still no Bootloader unlock.
That oem unlocking is just part of os

my plan was to get the device as soon as it came out, but when I got our demo device in store, I put off my decision till hearing more about the HTC 10.
The things I have noticed with the demo at my store is
1: The module at the bottom does not line up with the device, it might not be lots but it is enough. Plus worry about the future if the gap will get bigger
2: Audio quality is really weak. After using the G4 for the last while, I find the G4 has better placement and a better speaker all together.
3: The phones "metal body" feels weird. It does feel solid but at the same time it does not. Hard to explain
Those are my main issues, now with the camera, I do like the idea with the wide angle lenses but i wish the dual lenses was to help with zoom. Also I wish they upgraded the 16MP shooter. Dont get me wrong, the sensor is great with the G4 and G5, but I would have liked to see it improved even more. One other thing I would loved to see is before the phone was even released, LG going to the different accessory makers to give them the module access so when the phone launched they had more modules.
I dont know, maybe I am just being nit picky but I think LG dropped the ball a bit on this one. My final decision will be when I get my hands on the HTC 10 and G5 at the same time.
Got mine on Friday morning. Comparing this with the G3, G4 and Note Edge I find this thing to be ultra fast. Camera is pretty good although bright, its very noisey. Audio quality is ok.
Waiting for a root method,. unlocked the oem part, hopefully we will see root soon, Cant wait to seeing v10 camera app ports and custom kernels with exposed stuff
