How to install apps from unknown sources (easy after root) - Fire TV General

Now I can install .apk files from Chrome/Dropbox /es file explorer!!!!.................So I did this by accident I was trying to mess with the keyboard setting in the root folders and I got a setting popup.
1. You must have root
2. Es File explorer / turn on Root Explorer
3. navigate to /Device/System/app/
4. all I did was click on BuellerIME.apk and a pop up settings menu came up, from there a settings menu with unknown sources in it appeared. I checked unknown sources and that was that

anyone else confirm ? i only ask because i am on my second ftv ( bricked the first one some how )

Just tried it an it didn't work for me. When I launcher the app it only gave me the option to "Install" and said "Would you like to update this system application..." so I backed out. I'll stick to the other method.

It didn't work for me either. After I clicked the settings, no further menu appeared so that I can't check unknown.

Need Help!!!!!

I have just installed NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.2 [Android2.3.2] but i wouldn't find how to install apps in it.
Can anyone please help???????
You can install apps straight from the Android Market, or if you have downloaded the .apk files from somewhere, you can go into: Settings/Applications --> check the box that says "Allow from unknown sources" and then navigate to the .apk files with a feile browser app (which usually comes in most roms, but you can get one from the market too) and just tap on the .apk file and you should get an option to install it.

I am presuming you mean "File Expert"
Do this to allow you to delete system files:
1. Click the menu key and select More.
2. Within that menu click Settings
3. Select "File Explorer Settings"
4. Scroll down and select "Root Explorer"
5. Click "Allow" in the window that pops up
no root button in explorer
Okay let's do this another way.
1. Download ES File Explorer from the Market
2. Open it up and press the menu button and select "Settings"
3. Scroll all the way down and select "Root Explorer" and "Mount File System"
There.
thank worked can this way delet stock apps
You can, but don't get too crazy, some apps are needed for the system to function properly
directory apps system?
/system/app

[Q] Can't install CWM

I tried this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728
I've got my phone rooted. When I use remount it says .cust_backup/image is rewritable, but when I go to ES File Explorer I can't find the .cust_backup folder to replace the recovery.img in. I can't mount on the pink screen either. So I'm stuck
This is on B526. Google shows zero results on this issue, feels like I'm the only one with this problem?
1- First and most import question your phone must be rooted? If you have custom rom then you have root.
2- After that install root explorer from playstore and then you can see folder "cust_backup" mount "/.cust_backup" as rw.
3- And copy this recovery (you can choose either version) to that folder and tried to reboot should be working.
Sorry if I sound rude, but did you actually read my post lol?
Try this:
Open ES File Explorer and enable Root and Mount RW
Open Settings, press the Menu key then Settings
Scroll Down to Other Settings
Select Root Settings
Check the following Options
Root Explorer
Up to Root
Mount File System

Well I didn't really do what you said, but it got me to search around in the settings and I found "display "." path files" (or whatever it said).
Found the folder

haha! I know what your problem is. The .cust_backup folder is hidden! You must go into ES File Explorer's settings, and file a option that says to show hidden files. If you are on the latest version of ES File Explorer, use these steps:
Open ES File Explorer.
Press the menu button on your phone.
From the menu that opens from the left, select the settings button (located on the bottom-right of the menu that just opened.
Once you are in the settings of ES Fiile Explorer, go into "Display setting".
Then, tick the first option that says "Show hidden files"
Now, go back to the root of your phone and you should be able to see ".cust_backup"
If you have any problems then let me know, but it is very simple. Good Luck

[Q] [REQ] Modify Settings Menu i9505

Hello guys,
I recently found out that the "Kies via Wi-Fi" entry under "Settings>Connections Tab" is causing a FC to "Settings". I guess at a given time I've done something and removed/uninstalled the Kies Bloatware either by using Root Explorer or Titanium Backup, I'm not sure and I can't remember. I've tried to reinstall the "Kies Wi-Fi" app from the Google PlayStore and it did actually installed and found it working, however the nasty shortcut in Settings still causes FC-es. Is there any way to get rid of this entry at all? I don't intend using Kies at all and I'd really like to see that option gone.
I saw a thread in the Dev and Hacking section, however I'm not experienced enough to do it myself, so I ask here for help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184207
And these are the files I extracted from my device.. apparently there's no "Settings.apk" in my "/system/app" folder. But there is SecSettings.apk.....
SecSettings.apk - https://www.dropbox.com/s/pbeua595rsym22p/SecSettings.apk
framework-res.apk - https://www.dropbox.com/s/xzog2xfxnc4gsso/framework-res.apk
framework.jar - https://www.dropbox.com/s/t0xawazgheiemxg/framework.jar
framework2.jar - https://www.dropbox.com/s/mb470l2z2epu9vu/framework2.jar
I noticed that in SecSettings.pak > res > xml there is a file called connection_headers.xml which might be the key, but trying to open it with Notepad++ everything was full with meaningless weird symbols, except the 4th row which actually mention "kies via wi-fi".
I'll be very thankful if there's any way to remove this.. "thing" from my phone. I'm not familiar with ADB, but I surely can flash a .zip with CWM. :cyclops:
faily.. wrong thread.. sorry

Unknown Sources

I can see that with Android Oreo there is a new section to install from Unknown Sources; but do apps need to update to show up in the list? For example I use Solid Explorer as my file manager and so am used to installing apps from there. Now it won't let me and I have to do it from the Downloads app. Annoying!
If you go to settings, apps & notifications, advanced, special app access, install unknown apps you should be able to allow it for your file manager, if that's what you want.
If you want to install from your file manager, tap the apk while your in your file manager and Oreo should ask you if you want to allow it from your filemanager.
Edit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73623948&postcount=11 this guy had the same issue I guess.
I don't see it in that menu. That's where I was looking already. I only have some google app and facebook.

I just installed and opened the solid explorer, choosed a apk file, solid explorer starts with the menu: open with..., I choosed packet Installer and Oreo ask me if I want to allow to install unknown sources from solid explorer. I don't know what's the problem. You should uninstall and reinstall the solid explorer and start from the beginning, if that fails for you for whatever reason.
