Issues with 4.4.4 with a 2nd User - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So the story goes, I stopped using my stock rooted unlocked Nexus 7 3G 2012 some time ago and layed around not doing anything, so at some point I unrooted it, did the factory restore and updated it to the latest android OTA and gave it to my gf to use. Well she ended up not using it much so a few days ago I picked it up and started playing with it.
To avoid deleting any of her stuff, I just created a 2nd user for me and sync'd my personal and work google accounts to it. I noticed that a lot of my notifications lag behind my phone, if I even get them at all. I keep seeing sync errors when looking at the google accounts, which don't happen on her user. I also can't get mightytext to complete setup either.
Do you think these issues are attributed to the fact I'm using this as a 2nd user and that I'm not the 'Owner'?
I may just have to high jack the tablet completely, but I would be nice of this multi user thing would work, if that is the problem.

Problems Downloading from Market with Epic 4G

I bought my wife a new Epic 4G and she has been having problems downloading from the Marketplace. It seems to be a 3G,4G problem. Even Wifi doesn't start right away, yet does seem faster starting than 3g/4g. It does finally work after about 10 minutes. I know it is a phone problem, not a 3G/4g or Wifi problem, because I have an EVO, and at the same time downloading from the market with the EPIC, the EVO has no problems at all. I do notice once it has downloaded the first item, it seems fine for the rest of the day. The 3g was active before my wife went to the Market to download stuff. She had already received her email, so the connection was there.
Is anyone else having problems downloading from the Marketplace on 3G/4G or even wifi? If so, how do I fix the problem. I do have the latest update installed and it still didn't fix the problem.
The Epic seems to have some issue with logging into Gtalk randomly. I have experienced downloads that wouldn't start myself. Simply opening gtalk will log you in (most of the time) and the download will start almost instantly.

Missing Apps
Same issue here. Many Paid and free apps are missing. Bad deal since I need the phone for work and now I can't get my TouchDown Exchange Client working because it lost the key I paid for on the Market

For me it is not the issue where the download fails to start (though I have seen that too). This issue is that the apps are "not found" on the market place.
NOTE: I can see the apps from my EVO just fine, just not on the EPIC.
Evo is on froyo isn't it? Mabye they are protected apps and won't been seen unless you are running a phone with Froyo. Unless google hasnt registered I18 as a approved build yet.

Interesting... I notice that if I install(ed) a ROM (in this case Epic_Experience_v1.1.3) the apps are missing.
If I wipe the phone and restore a nandroid from a few days ago the apps show up.
Not sure what that means, but at least I can get back to using my email. Still learning all this ROM, Root, Kernel stuff.

I concur with these findings. I'm running Epic Experience 1.1.3 and if I search Market I can _not_ see such popular FREE apps such as Fandango, Where and Google Places Directory.
No idea why..

There have been several threads about this issue. Google has to take action in the Market to recognize the DI18 firmware as legitimate. (Perhaps Sprint has to take action to goose Google into taking action.)
This same problem occurred for several days after the last update.
See this post earlier at xda.
yeah this is pissing me off considering it all worked just a day ago...
I had my Epic rooted ever since I got it....the last few days it got sluggish and got bricked. I got it back to stock tonight and I can't upload apps either. I'm on the version ending in "7" when I went back to stock...if anyone can offer tips that is reading this would be greatly appreciated!!!
im getting annoyed by this GTalk sign in issue... not only I use gtalk alot but also market won't work without it.
I noticed I get signed off and loose connection almost every time I make/receive a call. Or sometimes just randomly.
Hey have you tried this?? I just did this below....
****UPDATE 4 hours later*******
so after screwing with everything I could possibly (clearing cache, resetting phone, rebooting countless times, etc) I logged out then back in to TALK using my gmail account and VOILA! everything downloaded.

Random Reboots / 4.2.1?

Hey guys... I'm still seeing some random reboots even after the 4.2.1 patch. Anyone else? Just curious if the patch is releieving this issue for some or if I'm unique. (It's disappointing to say the least... I hope it gets sorted out soon). My GN phone is having 4.2.1 reboot issues even with a custom ROM as well (though less than what I see with the tablet). Luckily, my wife's N7 has been pretty good (I suspect its rebooting on her while she's not around though, as both my other devices have done this as well).
My N10 randomly shut off (not rebooted) once so far after 4.2.1, but I only had 2 cases of random reboots back on 4.2
Yeah it's happened to me to.
Things that minimize reboots are removing apps and widgets that use Location Services. Disable location services as well.
I haven't had a reboot since I did a clean sweep. Thing like Maps will require you to go in and manually disable it. I found Facebook was one of the biggest offenders.
My old tablet (Transformer TF101) was plaqued with RR/SODs after the update to ICS. Really it still is but with a few tweaks and a custom kernel, I finally got it stablized. Why are you posting this here you say?
Because in that debacle, we found out a few things:
1, Asus will push out updates to help with the issue, but being that this is a Google "Experience" device, you should have a better chance of getting this fixed than we did.
2, I have heard repeatedly on almost every device that got 4.2 pushed that this is a problem. If you can stand it, hold out for a bit, I bet Google will get it sorted out (and not Asus).
3, we found that even though you think you are not having RRs, they may be occurring w/o your knowledge. There is an app in the market called Reboot Logger (can't remember off hand if it is a Root app or not) but it will show even the soft reboots that occur in the wee hours while you are asleep.
4, This is moved to Q&A
Good luck and I hope this gets worked out.
+1

Ok... I'll stay patient. Really I was looking to make sure it wasn't something I did software wise in my setup. (I had to re-lock, to a clean reset of data/cache, finally get the .1 update, then unlocked again). (Still havn't rooted).
Someone mentioned google voice as having issues (which I suppose could go along with the location settings). I do have location off as far as GPS, but have been leaving it on for the other two checkboxes.
Thanks for the responses (and thanks for moving this thread to Q&A, sorry I posted in general!).

[Q] Ugh, nothing but issues. Should I RMA?

I am having a huge variety of issues with my N10. I get somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-4 random crashes and reboots each day, which is a totally unacceptable level of stability for the types of tasks I intend to use it for. Worse, I have discovered that the Youtube app on this thing just plain doesn't work for videos over 2 minutes or so. As one of the primary uses I had intended for this tablet was watching online lectures on Youtube, this is again totally unacceptable.
I am running Paranoid Android (latest build) which I installed to try to mitigate some of these issues, but to no avail. Furthermore, my parents bought the tablet for me on launch day (Nov 13).
My multi-part question is: what should I try before I attempt to initiate RMA? Is is too late, even though I have only have my hands on the device for 2 1/2 weeks? What are Google's policies on rooting/unlocking (aka, what do I need to do before sending it back)?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Pretty sure you lost it (if that is you send it in rooted don't even call with out complete stock some one said Google could tell theirs was rooted)... But reload stock unroot and relock and you should be fine. Do not send in a rooted device to any manufacturer they don't like them. There are a few threads about the reboot issue take a look there are a few small things to prevent it.

I went back to stock,....
4.2.1, rooted, installed BusyBox, fixed permissions, and checked every app I wasn't using to make sure it wasn't synching or turning on my location by default. I made extra certain Chrome had all options disabled! I haven't had any problems of any type since.... :fingers-crossed:
Forgot to mention Naked Browser has taken the place of Chrome!

[Q] Play store breaks Cyanogenmod?

Hi everyone,
This morning when wake up I noticed a lot of applications were stopping ("XYZ has stopped") - including Google Keep. Also, many app/system settings were suddenly missing from the phone. I had to go through the whole process of reinstalling CM10, realizing that my Nandroid backup (made with OBackup) was in CWM format, rendering it unusable with TWRP (or this is what I, being pretty much a newb in the ROM world, understand from the situation).
A couple weeks ago something similar happened : my defy would bootloop at the CM logo.
This is starting to be exasperating a bit. But the only thing I can think of is that now I noticed I have Play Store 4.4.21 on the Defy - whereas on my Nexus 7 I have 4.3.11. Hence the version on my Defy seems to be the one that just came out. Could Play Store updating itself be causing the problems I'm having on my Defy? Why do I now have the new version if I just flashed CM10 a couple minutes ago, and why would it be working correctly now?
I already googled everything I could think of relating to this and couldn't come up with an answer. That is to say, I'm pretty much clueless about all this!
Thanks..

There are 2 possible things going on here:
problems with android's data sync with google's services. (this morning there was a diffused malfunction, at least here in Italy)
the infamous CM10's data corruption bug (see details in the bug list). it especially happens if you let completely discharge your phone. Symptoms match with yours
Since the data corruption bug is still under investigation, the best workaround is to keep a (weekly?) data backup.
After a data corruption, reformat in ext4 through the recovery's data tool and then:
reflash rom and gapps
restore your data
Well both times CM broke my phone's battery wasn't empty at all (the last time it was charging...)
When you refer to the sync problem I experienced it on my N7 yesterday, but it seems nowhere as dangerous as to be able to completely break the OS.
Oh well anyway, seems like CM10 isn't quite ready for being a daily driver.. I'll simply learn how to flash/restore backups correctly and as fast as possible it seems!

The only thing that really bothers me is that I never thought I'd lose so much time in rooting/modding my old defy.. I've spent countless hours on XDA/other forums, and yesterday I even had to restore the (almost bricked) defy with rsdlite after (incorrectly) trying to put CWM to restore my otherwise unusable backup. Then, when I had succeeded in putting CWM, it would totally refuse to restore, complaining about unmountable /system!
I do understand that its totally my choice to root/mod my devices, but with cell phones becoming more and more essential nowadays in everyday life, it seems to me that everyone almost has to become an android developer to survive!

New Nexus 6P User, problems out of the gate

So like the title says, I'm a new Nexus 6P user, and I had problems out of the gate.
I bought the device 2nd hand from a guy off craigslist, after my S6 edge started over heating after I had the screen replaced (don't buy Samsung "edge" phones, I know your careful, but on the off chance you drop it, your in a world of trouble).
I tested the phone, before I bought it, it appeared pretty much brand new, everything worked. When I got home, and hard reset it again for good measure all hell broke lose.
After a hard reset the phone wanted to update to build 19 something. After the update and a reboot, the phone app kept crashing before I could finish the setup process. The only thing I could do is factory reset it again. This appeared to clear up that problem. I did the near by device thing, and restored it from what Google could find out about my S6 edge. I wish it was more of a restore like what you can do in the iOS world, but it's better then what we had before so it's cool. I noticed that Chrome would crash everytime you tried to use it only in less I uninstalled the update. After I got the phone to the point where I wanted it, I thought I was free in the clear. When I started trying to use music apps, they all crash. Apple Music, Spotify, Soundcloud. Then I noticed YouTube also crashed the same way. When I tried to make a phone call, the phone app would crash too... So the phone was useless. I downloaded the SDK and the most current build which I think was 20 something. I followed a guide on here and formatted the phone reinstalling everything around build 20. The only thing this fixed was the phone issue.
I could now make phone calls without it crashing, but I was in the same boat with some applications working, and the same ones that didn't work not working. I flashed this phone 5, or 6 times, with the last time me formatting the userdata. I read that it wasn't a good idea because it could lock me to only 32GB ( I had a 64GB version), but after I did the flashing along with the usedata format, I still had 64GB of useable space, however I still had the same issue with the same types of applications crashing. I tried older builds, same issue (also the older builds all had the problem with the phone app crashing to the point that the phone wasn't usable).
I ended up sending the phone to the manufacturer, which appears to be in the same metroplex I live in. Hopefully they can find a hardware problem under warenty and fix it. I'm making this post to see if anyone else ran into similar issues, and if anyone knows if this is a hardware build issue, that was hopefully resolved.
I'm sorry to be so long winded...

Everything appeared to be stock, I don't know if it was rooted before, but when I was finished with it it was stock, I even locked the boot loader again (it was locked before I started flashing it)
