[Q] 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 update failure in rooted N7 - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Received the OTA update on my rooted/TWRP'd N7. Clicking on download and install takes me to TWRP Recovery. I cannot find the update file anywhere. If I reboot, the file is right there in my download folder. If I move it to the folder that contains files visible in TWRP recovery flash folder, it still doesn't appear.
I have read threads about updating without unrooting but remain confused.
Is there a way to accomplish this, and if so, do any of you have links that would take me to "how-to" instructions?

I zipped the file and yes, TWRP accessed it. Flashing resulted in failure, however.
To add insult, my tablet alerts me to the availability of the update every 2nd/3rd day, prompting me to download it again. If I do that, I'm taken to the "install" page. Attempting to install takes me back to TWRP, where the flash fails. Round and round I go......

Yep, the update just popped up. How do you capture it by the way? What's the path?

You already installed it? Once you install it, the file is erased - forever. All OTAs are this way. You MUST extract it before you install it.
Confirm: Did you install it or not? Also, if not - has it downloaded completely?
EDIT: I'll take your lack of response as you confirming that you did install it...

Yes, un-root, and remove all traces of having rooted. That includes any changes done to your System Files which Xposed might have done. You will have to flash the stock recovery too.

No, my lack of response was because of the reading I was doing here on XDA as why I wasn't seeing the OTA zip file under cache. Then I realized that I did not download the OTA, I thought that it was downloaded already as I had data on and it was just asking me to whether it should install or not.
Now I downloaded the OTA, and it's there under cache folder, and now at a safe place on my desktop.
I would never install it on my phone without flashing back stock ROM again anyway. I like to do things fresh.

Thanks. It's always nice to have the latest of Android. The new dialer is meaningless for me, again, it just changed it's viewing type, nothing else has been changed! Need to install ExDialer as usual. Will see if there's really something done with the camera, can't take any meaningful photos at 3:30 in the morning
Just one thing, as I have taken the OTA after a fresh install of stock ROM, now I don't need to format it again from recovery right?
There is already a thread for the 4.4.4 rollout here, please use it instead of having two similar discussions going on in 2 separate threads. Thanks

Android 5.1 rolling to LG G Pad 8.3 (Google Play Edition)

Just got the notification last night! Will try to update today, but I need to unroot and undo a few other system partition modifications first. Looking forward to this!
Very cool! Happy with cm12 rom now, but might try it.... Or wait for cm12.1!
5.1 is nice. Much smoother than 5.0. Hadn't been using my g pad much since picking up a nexus 6 because of the relative lag but 5.1 has made it comparable.
I tried installing it a couple times, but it doesn't install. Tells me I'm still on 5.0.
Is it because I'm rooted? If so, how do I go about getting it updated? Download from the OP's link and flash via TWRP?
TIA.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57114292
I used the method to go back to 4.4.4 and then did the 5.0 update, then 5.1 update.
Another option for users with TWRP installed to get to 5.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59976617&postcount=43
This avoids using the TOT restore, and lets you do the upgrade without wiping /data
Thanks for that. I found that even with restore recovery unchecked I still lost TWRP, but it wasn't hard to put it back on again.
Now I'm up and running in 5.1 and I didn't lose any of my data! Cheers!
Rocket321, do I need to rename the download to a .zip extension? TWRP isn't picking it up.

That's a TWRP nandroid backup. You need to put it in the folder your TWRP creates when you make a backup, and restore from it.

Unzip the 7z file with 7-zip and then copy to the twrp subfolder where backups go. I guess there are also archive apps you could use to extract on your device directly.
Once you do that, boot to twrp and tap restore.

Installing the Huawei firmware is an easy job as you don’t need a special software or an tedious installation of ADB and/or fastboot like stuff. It just involves extracting the Software folder from the firmware and then transferring the dload folder (contains UPDATE.APP file) inside the Software folder to your device, and then using the Update menu in Settings app to install the firmware (it’s UPDATE.APP file).

Backup!
Backup necessary stuff. In case your device is wiped off while following the guide below, it’s good to have a backup of contacts, photos, videos and other files already saved on PC.
How to Install Huawei firmware
Step 1. Download the official firmware for your Huawei Honor Android device first, and make sure it’s meant for your device by verifying the model no. of your device.
Step 2. Extract the firmware file to a separate folder. Upon doing so, you should get a ‘Software folder, in which you would have a dload folder with Update.APP file inside it.
Step 3. Connect your Huawei device to PC, and transfer the dload folder to your internal storage of your Huawei device. The dload folder must have Update.APP file inside it. Then disconnect the device from PC.
(Use external storage if internal storage doesn’t wok for you.)
Step 4. Now, open the Update menu under Settings app.
Step 5. Tap on Menu key at bottom and select Local Update option.
Step 6. Your Huawei device will look for UPDATE.APP file inside the dload folder and upon finding one, will present you a pop-up menu.
Step 7. Choose Install. The firmware will begin installing.
Step 8. Wait till the process is finished, after which your device will take a nice reboot.
That’s it. You have successfully installed the firmware on your Huawei Huawei device.

New update to fix voLTE 911 bug...

So this morning I got an update to fix the voLTE bug. I'm unlocked with twrp installed and rooted. Just for the sake of experimenting I tried installing it. Well that didn't work. Just gets stuck in twrp recovery and you have to power the phone off completely to get it to boot. I guess my question (even though it's a little early) is there a way to install the update without reverting back to stock?
EDIT: Link to the zip

I don't believe so.
In the past you either had to go back to stock or wait on someone to create a compatible update for rooted devices.
Can you post link to zip?
If you are rooted, you can find the zip in cache folder in recovery.
Can you add what variant and build you are using before the update? Also the build afterwards?

Yeah I can't find anything in that folder either.
I received the update and applied it. I am not rooted.
I have the XT1687 model.

I'm getting the update notification and splash screens several times daily.

If you have systemless supersu, you should just be able to apply the update after reverting to stock recovery.
So I found where the zip downloads. I wonder what flashing it in twrp would do?

OK, so I tried flashing recovery.img from stock firmware build 33. But the OTA update will not install, instead I get an error after downloading and rebooting (red triangle at recovery mode).
So I tried fully reverting to stock firmware but I decided to skip over erasing userdata. Afterward the OTA downloaded and installed successfully. Keeping userdata does not seem to have caused an issue.
My problem now though is how to get root back without having to wipe userdata after re-flashing TWRP.
Or is this not possible and if I want to root I must first wipe userdata so that TWRP can read internal memory?

Just tried flashing it with TWRP and no luck:

E3002: Package expects build thumbprint of 7.0/NPN25.137-35/37:user/release-keys or 7.0/NPN25.137-33/35:user/release-keys; this device has .

which doesn't make much sense since I rooted the stock ROM (Build number reads NPN25.137-33).
If your using a custom recovery flash the stock recovery, then go to the stock recovery and using your computer flash using adb sideboard command. I assume you already know how to do this. Hope that helps.

I'm stuck in the same boat... no idea how to flash the stock recovery and sideboard, what that even means, or if that would break root. I just followed the step-by-step "how to root" video when I first got the phone
There's a workaround to disable the "advanced LTE" or whatever it was called, so I did that. But in the meantime until a more "user friendly" means of updating is available, is there a way I can get rid of this nag screen? Way back on an earlier device (Samsung Charge?) I remember manually editing a "build.prop" file or something to match the latest version so I wouldn't keep getting the software update nag. Is there something that will do the same here, or is there a system app I can freeze in TiB?
My best guess is freezing "Moto Actions 03.022.1.4-N" because it's showing "(updated)" on the side.

What he means is you need to download the stock rom, unzip it, then boot phone to bootloader mode and connect to PC. Then flash the recovery.IMG from the stock rom folder with command prompt:
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Then you can on the phone tell it to boot to recovery mode. This will be a screen with Android on his back and the words NO Command on the bottom. Then plug to PC and use adb command to sideload the update zip like this:
adb sideload [nameofupdatefile].Zip

Strange, reflashed the stock recovery and adb can't see it (adb devices returns nothing). And when trying to install it via the normal OTA way, the stock recovery tries to install but ends with an error.
That's what happened to me when I tried reverting to stock recovery and then trying to install update from phone Settings app.
I ended up having to revert to stock rom to get ota to apply with settings app. But now I am trying to root again but after installing TWRP data is encrypted again. So looks like I will have to wipe data before re-rooting.

How to update firmware if you've already flashed TWRP

I figured out how to update after flashing twrp. Maybe obvious to some but I've seen questions about it.
The zip in the "Convert CA to WW" thread has the stock rom in a zip file. Open it and inside is a recovery.img file in it, extract it to your adb folder on your PC.
Download the firmware update from ASUS official site and save to the root of your sd card or internal storage (it will recognize both.)
Reboot into fastboot on your device.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
When that finishes reboot and your phone should find the update and ask if you want to install. Do so. You may need to power cycle first.
When you're done you can reflash TWRP.
Once you have TWRP you can flash Magisk or SuperSU as you see fit.
It's painless.
An old post from you, but thank you. This was really easy. I've spent 2 days trying to figure out how to upgrade without restore stock rom, boot etc. and lose all data. I was about to give up when I saw this post, I didn't expect it to work - to easy. But I could give it a try.
This was painless.
Then it took me 3 hours to figure out how to reinstall twrp again, it wasn't just to flash and reboot I had to boot directly into recovery after flash. But that is another story.
Thanks, you just saved me some time!

When you flash stock recovery and update you unroot, so you will get FOTA. Just update to Oreo and then flash twrp and Magisk (or whatever you use) again.
I am rooted and updated to Oreo then chose updates involving battery improvement and/or system stability (downloaded to external sd), after installed the last update I flashed twrp and rooted again.
You need to flash stock recovery before update. The phone will find the updated with custom recovery but update will fail.
The site I downloaded stock recovery from is down so you have to search for it, or download RAW stock rom and extract the recovery from it
