How to re-root XCover2 with CM - Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
I hope you're noob friendly here too and can help me with my phone:
I have a Xcover2 which I have already successfully rooted with an Android image.
My problem: I use link2sd to send almost all apps to my external SD card. That works fine. But after some time, my phone seems to block the FAT32 partition of the external SD card, which means I can't write or reed from the normal external storage partition anymore. After formating the partition on my PC, it works again for some time, but the problem comes back sooner or later.
Now:
A friend suggested to use CM as alternativ. Unfortunately my XCover2 is not officially supported. I found an image for CM developed of one of you here but I have no clue how to root my phone with CM. Obviously it works different than with Odin.
Can someone help me?
Sorry I just started with the topic of how to hack a phone, so I am very happy for any help!

Actually not, I root my device with the same root.zip on any ROM (custom/stock). Anyway, Cyanogenmod comes rooted. Just Install SuperSU from playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu

Hey Carlyle,
thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I still don't know, how to use the CM image that one of your developers has uploaded. For my first root I could used a tar.md5-file. The zip-file for CM is a lot more complexe. So now I have no idea how to use it. You see I'm really just starting.

Oh, do you mean you don't know how to flash CM? Is your phone still on stock firmware?

Hey,
no as I said, it is already running on a rooted Android Version (4.1.2). The XCover 2 is not officially supported by Cynogenmod.com

I just send you the data (my connection is quite bad at the moment):
Model:

Android-Version:

Basic band version:
S7710XXAMB6
Kernel-version:
3.0.31 - 963581

Buildnumber
JZO54K.S7710XXAMB6

OK, so you're not on cyanogenmod yet. You don't need to root it, you need to flash it... This was the confusion here. Rooting is gaining administrative privileges on your device flashing is modifying/changing software through recovery, Odin or FastBoot. So, I'm guessing you still have a custom recovery from when you rooted? TWRP or CWM Recovery?
Edit: follow this guide (choose either CWM or TWRP) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2352252
Search for gapps for your device on google or here in XDA
Reboot into recovery
Select install (TWRP) or install from SD card (CWM)
Navigate to the cm .zip file you downloaded and install it
Navigate to the gapps .zip and install it
Wipe cache and factory reset
Reboot

If you actually want to know what are you doing study some of this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Motorola_Defy
You need to root your phone before installing 2ndInit (custom recovery). What is rooting should be explained in the wiki page.
1. Donwload this to your computer: http://depositfiles.com/files/n0dcxce3t (pc app for rooting)
2. connect your phone via USB
3. In settings -> Applications -> enable USB debugging.
4. Run the app on your pc with your phone connected.
5. After restart, your phone should be rooted.
5. Win, now you can instal 2ndInit and throught this custom roms.
itz hung in the first stage after clicking the Root. It says 'deamon started successfully'. can someone help?

if you are looking for stability and gaming go for cm7.2 which is a gingerbread rom, cm9 is icecream sandwich which is unstable and finally we have cm10 jelly bean rom which is quite stable...I'm currently on cm10 because i cant live without the new features of the latest version of android therefore it depends on you...note that games do run on cm10, i have dead trigger and Samurai II: Vengeance which runs great!!

I tooo faced the same problem at the beginning with cm11 (cm-11-20140117-NIGHTLY-mb526) by quarx, though I was able to install cm11(cm-11-20131229-NIGHTLY-mb526) by quarx successfully.... Im a noob to this flashing stuff still managed and understood a bit of this procedure... I believe I read this some where on this forum that if you want to install ***cm11 (cm-11-20140117-NIGHTLY-mb526)*** then you need to go back to the custom rom first then from there you can install , though I'm not 100% Sure and afraid to do any experimentation with my Defy+.... As of now Im on
"Android 4.3.1"
Kernel 2.6.32.9-Aerokernel
10.2-20131030-NIGHTLY-mb526
I am facing almost the same problems as yours "Installation failed" as if there is a problem with the zip file which I'm sure of that isnt the case :/
Please somebody help the noobs...!!!
Thank you.

Try maybe installing from scratch (starting with original sbf).
I reinstalled Kitkat on my Defy+ tonight - sbf, rooted sbf, 2ndInit, cm-10-20131030, recovery update and then 140120.

Buddy Im already running cyanogenmod on my defy+ and in the second link what you gave for installing the 2ndinit Recovery it says:
DO NOT INSTALL THIS IF ARE YOU ALREADY RUNNING CYANOGENMOD. That ROM already has bootmenu pre-installed, and you'll probably end up having to flash an SBF file to recover your phone.
NOTE: You need ROOT installed on your Defy to use this application.
What should I do ???
I will try from start by using original sbf file using RSD and then CM11 and updating recovery after that Kitkat ,btw can you mention which ROM you tried because i tried these 2 earlier --> omni-4.4.2-20140117-mb526-HOMEMADE .zip and AOSPA 4.0+ PARANOIDANDROID [beta]
Kitkat 4.4.2 KOT49H android-4.4.2_r1.
Also can some1 help me with my wifi frequently disconnection problem too please .

I tried this
Mokee
"MK43.1-jordanplus-201312040138-NIGHTLY"
with Gapps
gapps-jb+-20130730_defy-minimal
and
update-recovery
CM11 by Quarx
"cm-11-20131229-NIGHTLY-mb526"
with Gapps
1-16_GApps_Standard_4.4.2_signed
They both worked for me but unable to install the latest one.... I'm trying the method just mentioned by the senior member but unable to root again using framaroot as its showing me this error
"Half-Success :-/ ... system partition is read-only, use local.prop trick. Reboot your device and use adb to see if it run as root"
I don't know what to do now :silly:

Mine sbf is rooted alredy so maybe try it first then go to CM10 .
its DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_CEE_ROOTED_No_Signed.rar
downloaded it earlier from here only.
I have tried Mokee, but direct return to Quarx compilation made big stability problems too. Solution was to flash with original rom, then rooted one, 2ndInint and Quarx cm10, then cm11.
As I had Android 2.3.6 (3.4.5.1 - 231), I used these roms - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542956.
It is very important to wipe data and cache just after first, original flash - otherwise you will have infinite boot loop and cannot run phone.
Look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537 too.

Im phone is f***** , what I did is install this framaroot and installed rootchecker..... I tried to do the rooting using "installsu" and then clicked Gilmo and it gave me this message:
“Half-Success :-/ … system partition is read-only, use local.prop trick. Reboot your device and use adb to see if it runs as root”
then I restarted my phone and check with root checker and found its saying its saying Root access successful and then I wondered which I suppose I shudnt have wondered :crying: to user framaroot and do the "unroot" and again restarted , and now after restart I tried to do the regular thing wipe cache ,Dalvik , Data and the phone is not even mounting them its sayin
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command etc
Im able to open the android 4.1.2 (Jb - quarx)
but not able to install a thing in my internal memory coz I messed up bad with the partition table bad:crying:
I tried to fix it through this

my problem is only wifi disconnects frequently -seems on this working fine ,will check it for few days ,anyway 4.4 will still have bugs so better be on some lower version.

[Q&A] [MOD][SEP 14] MultiROM v28 (Redesigned GUI!)

Q&A for [MOD][SEP 14] MultiROM v28 (Redesigned GUI!)
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer. Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
I'm trying to get ubuntu touch RTM running with MultiRom on my Nexus 4, and it's erroring out on boot. When I try to view the log it seems like it gets overwritten by the log for the successful android boot every time I try and get the phone to a place where I can actually access it.
I couldn't find a way to view it through recovery, and copying it to the sd card doesn't give an option to re-name, so it gets overwritten. How can I actually view the log?
rooting secondary rom
Tassadar, i have your lollipop factory image installed as secondary rom. I have a question about rooting it. I have read in other threads one cannot just flash supersu zip for root to work, that people are using CF Autoroot instead. Would this method overwrite multirom recovery ? Could you say best method for rooting. Thanks
does this contain the new radio, bootloader etc?
Solved by flashing permissive boot image zip from skypompos thread and super su 2.19 zip.
Grabbed lrx21t_mako.zip from OP's basketbuild site, fresh installed as secondary ROM, stuck at boot animation forever.
Primary ROM is stock 4.4.4, with latest 4.4.4 kernel+1105recovery+v29 all installed by multirom.
5.0.1
Hey man,
I know its just out,
but a 5.0.1 LRX22C_mako.zip would be awesome!
Thanks
question
Hi, can i use multirom on my nexus 4 with lollipop? And can i use as secondary rom a rom based on kitkat?
Does MultiRom work on lg optimus g (e975) mako unlocked and by modifying build prop to nexus 4?
[Q]
Hey , i just downloaded 5.0.1 and flashed my nexus 4 with stock 5.0.1 , rooted and flashed custom recovery too, used your kernel for 5.0.1,and flashed your custom TWRP
installed multirom and now, TWRP->Advance..->Multirom->Add new rom -> android-> zip-> and here, renamed my " occam-jdq39-factory-345dc199.tgz (4.2.2)" to " occam-jdq39-factory-345dc199.ZIP" to be able to flash ZIP
when i select " occam-jdq39-factory-345dc199.zip " to flash as secondry ROM ,after 1sec TWRP restart, i mean it close itself and reopen at TWRP main page, and then i can see "occam-jdq39-factory-345dc199" in rom list
but cant boot it and getting error
(log file attached)
whats wrong?
How do I restore a backup of any secondary ROM?
Hey, I have just made a back up of the data partition of my secondary ROM but, when I tried to restore it I realised that it's only possible to restore a back up for the primary ROM. There's any way to do that? Thanks.

Hello,
You can Swap your roms, swap primary with secondary, restore your data partition backup, then swap back,
Stuck at google logo.
Hi everyone, first post here, two days after buying this phone and I'm already in trouble.
I followed the instructions to use MultiROM to add Ubuntu Touch; and everything was fine, until I decided I wanted RW access. Then, I had the idea to sudo apt-get upgrade within Ubuntu... it failed to complete the installation of the packages (though it had space... I think), then I tried to reboot the phone.
Now it gets stuck at the google logo; and if you press the power button to shut it down, it starts again after a second or two.
I can access recovery mode pressing the three buttons, and within, I get to MultiROM TWRP by choosing "Recovery Mode"; but there's a lot of options here and I could not find anything that allows me to boot on either Android ("Internal" seems to be gone) or Ubuntu.
I'm an experienced linux user but -as can be seen- this is my first foray with Android, smartphones, and the like.
Let me know what other information should I provide; and thanks in advance for your help.

Nevermind. I flashed everything from scratch and now the phone is back on its feet.
I am not sure what is the problem, but adding specific radio images for secondary ROMs is not working. I tried with Sailfish OS and MIUI to include older radio images for them to work, but nothing changed.
Update primary rom
Hello.
I want to do a clean install of euphoria as the main rom. If I do I might lose the second rom?
Thank you for your attention.

silly question maybe but if I want to make my secondary rom the interal one and wipe the current internal, a copy secondary to internal would just do that right?
I wanted to do a swap first to be on the safe side, but I don't have enough free space for that
other remark : the app doesn't see that Ubuntu touch us already installed?
Multirom Ubuntu touch start error
İ have an issue about Ubuntu touch. İ installed multirom and installed what it recomemmends. İ installed Ubuntu stable with multirom. İt installed and opened first time. i choose my lang. etc . İt says phone is ready but there is an ubuntu icon rolling. Nothing else... İ cannot skip this icon. i Waited 1 hour or more 3 times. i have a nexus 4 with stock 5.1
I have some wondering what bothers me:
1. Internal rom is mounted read-only ?
2. Matter where I install the rom that I use more often, daily use ?
3. In system I do not realize if it moves slower but in recovery does(and load slower at startup),it can influence the performances and battery life in system?

[Help] I can't root or install cm

Hi.
I bought the nvidia shield android tv pro (500GB model). the built-in OS is... well you probably know it`s bad...
so I installed the custom rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/rom-t3138575
the custom rom works fine and I just wanted to install cm and supersu. however, when I boot TWRP (2.8.6.0) and try to install, it fails (can`t mount storage).
I tried it a few times and couldn't get it to work.
the only solution I can think of is installing TWRP (instead of just booting to it). should I do that? I thought it`s best to keep the original recovery.
Thanks!
Images attached.
I'm not an expert, but I had trouble rooting too. With my 16 GB model I had to manually mount the relevant partitions in TWRP (fill in the checkboxes in "Mount") before I flashed SuperSU. Also, it appears that you're using teletype's TWRP? I think that's for the 16 GB model only. Make sure you're using Steel01's latest version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...very-twrp-2-8-6-0-shield-tv-variants-t3140926
Also, what do you mean by "install cm"? Because there's not yet any working build of CyanogenMod that I know of for this device.

I tried manualy mounting... it doesn't mark the checkbox, only logs 'can`t mount /...' .
I used the TWRP posted in this forum (all varients) - the same one you sent.
by "install cm" I meant "install google`s stuff":
Gapps for CM 12.1 arm64 version: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Google_Apps
(from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/rom-t3138575)
basicaly I don't have to root. it's just a bonus. however, I do HAVE to install somehow google`s apps (mainly the play store). how do I do that?
i installed the default supersu that come with the twrp and the update supersu trough the play store and issues was fixed, it was the easier thing to do, goo luck

CUSTOM RECOVERY and ROOT for YUOS OFFICIAL - Android 6.0.1?

Hello folks,
I have been searching threads related to this all over and for the first time on earth I couldn't find a single thread covered on this.
I flashed my YUREKA AO5510 which was earlier on Cyanogen 12.1 for lollipop, with the all new OFFICIAL release of YUOS based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The OS seems amazing and giving outstanding battery performance for me. I installed it from Yuplaygod website.
However, now I need to root it and don't really know how to go about it. I have tried flashing custom recovery TWRP 2.8 and 3.0 both and it didn't work.
Anyone here who can help me root my Yureka now?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks with kind regards.
Well, I noticed that although installing official TWRP recovery for Yureka is possible, it's not possible to detect files on internal storage to install.
I put SuperSu.zip on internal storage but when I tried to access it from TWRP recovery, it showed that internal storage was 0MB.
I thought installing it from external sd card might be a good idea, so I put the zip file on external and tried installing it from there, but there were host of errors that occurred. After that, the phone got stuck at boot loop. I had to install the whole ROM again.
Please help me with this.
Thank you!
